The Battle Over Marijuana Headed To Reality TV In ‘Weed Country’

(AllHipHop News) The Discovery network is ready to shine a light on the world of the North California marijuana trade in the new reality series Weed Country. The six-part series will follow the growers, dealers, and law enforcement officers involved in the illegal marijuana industry centered in the quickly spreading area known as “The Emerald Triangle.”

The show is essentially about the “drug war” between weed growers who are constantly searching for scientific advancements to make stronger grade of weed and the cops who are on a mission to shut them down.

With the marijuana trade being an estimated $50-100 billion dollar industry in the US alone, the show will also examine the turf battles between the independent growers, and the struggles and triumphs of being in the weed business.

The legalization of cannabis has become a political hot button issue over the last several years with a lot of the prevailing trends leaning toward making marijuana legal for adults.

There are currently 20 states (including the District of Columbia) that allow the use of marijuana in some form. The most notable being Colorado and Washington whose citizens voted last November to allow persons over 21 years of age to purchase and consume cannabis for recreational use – the first such laws in the nation.

Just this week Democratic lawmaker Mike Manypenny presented legislation in the West Virginia House of Delegates to legalize medical marijuana that would allow patients with a doctor’s prescription to purchase cannabis at dispensary centers or grow up to 12 plants in their home. And in Michigan Republican Michael Callton offered a bill that would allow local communities to regulate dispensaries for medical marijuana patients.

While there has been a lot of movement toward pro-cannabis legislation at the state level, marijuana is still an illegal substance according to federal laws. A statement on the official White House Office of National Drug Control Policy website page states:

Regardless of state laws to the contrary, there is no such thing as “medical” marijuana under Federal law.

… persons who are in the business of cultivating, selling, or distributing marijuana, and those who knowingly facilitate such activities, are in violation of Federal law, and are subject to Federal enforcement action, including potential prosecution.

Discovery appears to be trying to capitalize of this ongoing national tug-of-war over weed policy through the microcosm of reality television. There’s still a question whether the millions of people who are advocating for weed legalization will turn into loyal viewers of that battle playing out on a t.v. show.

Weed Country debuts this Wednesday, February 2oth at 10 pm on Discovery.

Kevin Hart and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis to Appear on Saturday Night Live

(AllHipHop News) Fresh off winning his second consecutive MVP in the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game on Friday night, comedian Kevin Hart is about leave his mark on late night televison.

It was announced on Saturday that the star of Real Husbands of Hollywood and Laugh at My Pain will serve as the host of the March 2nd episode of Saturday Night Live. This will be the comedic superstar’s first time hosting the long-running late-night sketch comedy show.

Hart will be the second African-American comedian to host SNL this season. In Living Color alum Jamie Foxx hosted the show on December 8th.

Hart joins an exclusive list of black stand-up comics that includes Foxx, Tracy Morgan, Bernie Mac, David Alan Grier, Damon Wayans, Martin Lawrence, Sinbad, Eddie Murphy, and Richard Pryor that have been tapped to lead the program during its 38-year run.

Hart’s episode will also feature musical guests Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. The Seattle, Washington based rapper/producer duo are the creators of the breakout number 1 hit “Thrift Shop” off the their debut studio album The Heist.

The Heist managed to reach the top spot of the iTunes albums chart and number 2 on Billboard albums chart even though the LP was released independently and did not garner much mainstream media attention prior to its release. It has gone on to sell over 300,000 copies.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis will be the second rap act to perform on SNL this season. Three weeks ago TDE emcee Kendrick Lamar performed his hit singles ““Swimming Pools (Drank)” and “Poetic Justice” on the January 26th episode.

Lil Wayne Goes On Anti-Miami Heat Rant: “I F*cked Chris Bosh Wife”, “I’m the new Pac”

(AllHipHop News) There are reports coming out that Young Money rapper Lil Wayne lashed out at the NBA and the Miami Heat players during an early Monday morning performance at Stereo Live in Houston during the NBA All-Star weekend.

Both Karen Civil and Shaheem Reid sent out a serious of tweets quoting Wayne blasting LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh.

Maybach Music Group rapper Meek Mill, who was in attendance at the show, seemed to confirm that Wayne suggested he had slept with Chris Bosh’s wife.

Wayne has been very verbal about what he feels has been mistreatment by the Miami Heat organization. Wayne recently claimed the he was kicked out of the Miami-Los Angeles game on January 10th for rooting for the visiting Lakers. The Heat stated that Wayne was not removed from the arena and left on his own accord.

This is the second major sporting event weekend this year where Wayne has left with news of him beefing. During the Super Bowl festivities a few weeks ago, Wayne got into an altercation with a cameraman after a celebrity football game. He claimed the camera operator pushed him, and that’s what sparked his angry reaction which included telling the man, “look at me m###########. Look at me when you apologize.”

In the portion of Wayne’s rant in the video below he can also be heard saying that The Heat had him banned from NBA games and that he is the “new Pac.”

Hip-Hop Rumors: Fan Attacks Rihanna In Protest Of Chris Brown?

UH OH! You know how fans are today! They can be quite cray cray! Well, the fact of the matter is, THEY ARE! Now, Rihanna may have completely spit in the wind now that he is fully back with Chris “Not A Blood” Brown. Apparently, she was in England debuting her new clothing line when disaster struck…or a fan stan struck!

On top of it all, in the saddest irony imaginable, IT WAS A MAN THAT ATTACKED HER! Get this: he protests her getting back with her abusive ex by…BEING ABUSIVE. What a wack job these fans can be! The man threw a bottle at Rihanna – more irony – and Rihanna fell hitting her leg, causing it to bleed. The bodyguard tried to catch the rabbit, but he was too fast and got away. The crazy thing is the bodyguard hurt his body in the chase.

Barbadian pop star Rihanna was seen at her LFW (London Fashion Week) show for River Island where model Cara Delevingne attended the event.

DAMNNNNNNN! Look what Trinidad James has started! The rumors from All Star are rolling in! Last night, at a club in Houston (I won’t blow up y’all spot), Trinidad James, 2 Chainz, Yo Gotti, Tiffany Foxx and others were having some innocent fun in the VIP!

Suddenly, a man goes into full cardiac arrest in the VIP and you know what they are saying happened to him. Rumor has it, the man was dropping Molly like it was candy. And he had a full-fledged Molly-induced heart attack in the club. The seizure looking action forced everybody, especially 2 Chainz, to completely break out of there like the chicken pox.

I’m thinking the man survived but I don’t know for sure. The word is, he may have been a friend of somebody in VIP! Leave that Molly alone, y’all!

One of the shockers is that Future Ghost wrote Drake’s new song, “Started From The Bottom.”

Well, that’s about it. But, the funny thing is, I liked that song, because Drake flowed differently. But, my sources are saying, Future wrote it. Does it matter? Is it true? I don’t know..who cares.

Young Jeezy Countersues Former Business Partner Kinky B.

(AllHipHop News) Young Jeezy has fired back at a former business partner, who is suing the rapper over monies earned from his record label, CTE (Corporate Thugs Entertainment).

Demetrius “Kinky B” Ellerbee is suing Young Jeezy for $5 million, claiming he executive produced four of the rapper’s#### albums.

According to TMZ.com, Young Jeezy has countersued Kinky B. in court.

Young Jeezy claims that he is not friends with Kinky B. and that they have never entered into any business deals together.

According to Jeezy, he never made any agreements to share half of his profits with Kinky B.

But Ellerbe’s lawsuit claims he was instrumental in obtaining CTE’s deal with Def Jam, yet he was cut out of millions of dollars in profits, which Young Jeezy allegedly redirected to his personal accounts.

“Essentially, Young Jeezy just kind of took over the company, and elected to take all the funds,” Ellerbee’s attorney Mario Breedlove said.

Where’s Brooklyn At? Troy Ave Performs at Public Assembly

(AllHipHop News) What transpired on February 16th at 70 North 6th St in the artsy Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY for Tuff Tunezz’s “Raw & Uncut” was an eye-opener depending on how you’re looking.

The show, scheduled to begin at 10pm did not present its first performer (Zulu Collie) until around 11pm. The bill for the Brooklyn concert was half out of towners (Ceasar Luciano, Zulu Collie and M3) and half New York natives (Tuge, Bryan Dope and Troy Ave). However, the crowd at the tightly packed venue majorly consisted of fans of the out-of-town acts as once those acts left, so did the crowd.

DJ Prince was serviceable for a good portion of the show, however made odd song choices that were not influenced by the crowd’s enjoyment. For example, after a relatively zombie-like reaction to the entirety of Trinidad James’ “All Gold Everything” the crowd grew noticably raucous once Kanye West’s bravado overload possee cut “So Appalled” blared through the muffled speaker system. Even though this got one of the more energized responses, DJ Prince decided to cut the song off after the 1st Kanye verse, sending the party back into its disjointed feel.

The opening acts were a mixture of unrehearsed amateur sets(rapping over vocal backing track), promising crowd-controlling lyricism and Tuge.

This show can be easily broken up into two categories. B.T. and A.T. Before Tuge. After Tuge. The husky MC hailing from Rooservelt Island, NYC single handedly provided the most organic reaction of the crowd. After a few camera phone picture flashes, Tuge’s rapid fire flow, vocal changes and infectious passion transformed the somber crowd into a frenzy. The man performed an entire song where he compared himself to Khole Kardashian’s husband, Scott Disick, twice, 40 minutes apart and got the same reaction both times.

“Ruff & Uncut” A.T. consisted of South Providence, RI’s Ceasar Luciano flying through joints off his Confessions of Rubirosa: The Last Playboy, and Queens MC  Bryant Dope bouncing around the stage rapping about Generation Y.

Then there was the “headliner”, Troy Ave. Actually, after Tuge and the subsequent acts there were a few 30-minute waiting periods for Troy Ave on top of the extra hour of lateness. Comedian and host Eric Rosado attempted to keep the crowd interested with numerous requests for single ladies and even asking the audience to “please come closer to the stage for Troy Ave.” Once the Brooklyn MC graced the stage (after 1:30 am), the crowd had already turned into this:

Troy Ave was all smiles and attributed his lateness to getting “a call to make a delivery”. After doing his renditions of his hook on Fabolous’ “Only Life I Know” and Pusha T’s “Road Runner” he powers through “Concrete Jungle” and “Blanco” off his latest mixtape, White Christmas. However, his entire contribution to the event and the event as a whole was encapsulated in one moment. While performing, Troy Ave stopped and claimed he forgot his lyrics due to alcohol. He proceeded to take another sip of alcohol.

Overall, the “Raw & Uncut” was exactly what the name implied. Unfiltered Hip Hop given in the rawest and unpolished(read: unrehearsed) way.
