The word “revolutionize” gets thrown around haphazardly to any form of innovation these days. However, it is impossible to look at the present landscape of Hip Hop currently and not notice that visual representation for songs are necessitated. That was all made possible by one Queens hip hop enthusiast whom is so beloved in Hip Hop circles that he is often referred to as “Uncle Ralph”. Ralph McDaniels, the founder of the first known television show to showcase Hip Hop music videos, Video Music Box spoke on PNC Radio’s The Combat Jack Show about his history and shed light on some secrets from Hip Hop’s past and future.

Russel Simmons Used To Look Like A Crackhead
Combat Jack: “Russell looked like he snorted coce.”
Ralph McDaniels: “Right.”
Before Russell Simmons went on to co-found Def Jam Records and become worth $340 million he was a loquacious upstart promoter in the early 80s. Mr. McDaniels recalls how the Phat Farm founder’s attire was in such dissary it was a shocker when he became the success story he is today. Just goes to show, the clothes do not make the man, the future does.
YoMTV Raps was directly inspired by Video Music Box
Combat Jack: “You knock on MTV’s doors, they say no. A year later, they come out with [Yo! MTV Raps].”
The burgeoning culture of Hip Hop was changing by 1988. Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff had released He’s The Rapper I’m The DJ, Run DMC and rock legends Aerosmith released the “Walk This Way (Remix)” and MTV gave Hip Hop a nationally recognized platform to showcase their music videos with the seminal program YO! MTV Raps. However, Uncle Ralph claims MTV rejected him in 1986 when he presented his Video Music Box program to be featured on MTV because “middle America was not ready to have this music on their televisions.” The late Ted Demme was the co-creator of the epochal and apparently had more than a little help with its creation from Mr. McDaniels’ endeavors:
“[Ted Demme] told me years later that he solely watched Video Music Box. That was his only reference for what was going on. He definitely took plenty ideas from Video Music Box.”
Nas’ “It Ain’t Hard To Tell” Video Shoot Ended In Gunshots
“Only [Nas’] people were standing around so it had to be one of his people.”
Rappers’ unruly entourages have been a mainstay in the Hip Hop community since its inception and in the early 90s, violence erupted almost daily. The majority of the scenes for “It Ain’t Hard to Tell”, Nas’ first music video in promotion of his canonical classic Illmatic, were shot away from his Queensbridge stomping grounds due to ongoing beef. So it is no wonder that after McDaniels promised Maria Davis no violence someone from Nas’ camp let off a few gunshots right next to Uncle Ralph. Sometimes it really is not hard to tell who will start trouble.
Bonus: Ralph McDaniels helped RZA direct his unreleased movie in support of his Bobby Digial album entitled Bobby Did It (shot in Pennsylvania). He even has the footage lying around in his storage.
Big Daddy Kane Paid A Guy Off For A Shooting He Didn’t Committ
“We were got upstate and then somebody says ‘This dude is bleeding.’ I’m like, ‘Why is he bleeding? What happened?’ He thinks he has a gunshot.”
While not a complete case of what Nas calls “accidental murders”, Big Daddy Kane’s phantom gun shot is quite peculiar. While on the road to upstate New York to shoot Kane’s “The Symphony” video, the Long Live The Kane MC’s Derringer accidentally went off and struck one of the passengers. Due to all gunshot wounds admitted to hospitals being reported and investigated, the shooting victim was given Big Daddy Kane’s Nefertiti chain in exchange for his silence. That peace offering did not last very long:
“When they got back to Brooklyn, Kane’s thugs came and juxed dude up and took the Nefertiti chain.”
African American Smithsonian Will Include Video Music Box Footage
“[The Smithsonian] has an African American Smithsonian that will be opening in 2015.”
The Smithsonian is the world’s largest museum and research complex with 19 museums, nine research centers and over 140 affiliated museums internationally. Basically, most of the cultural footprints of legends such as Martin Luther King Jr, Leonardo Da Vinci and others are housed in one of the many institutions. Ralph McDaniels revealed on the Combat Jack Show that the people at the Smithsonian approached him about having a section in the soon-to-be-built African American Smithsonian in Washington, DC.
A huge step in Hip Hop’s continual quest for cultural equality in America.

Waka Flocka is a cold dude man! So many chicks look forward to this day for the whole year. And, some are single and others are not. But, one thing is to get dumped ON V-Day is the stuff suicide is made of. How can it get any worse. Generally, dude wait til the day after or the day before to break up. Not, Waka Flocka. He did it on the day!
His girl Tammy Rivera made the actual revelation…somewhere. Probably on Twitter. She’s cute, but we didn’t see her much when they were together. I bet we see her more now. Hell, she may get a reality show.

Last night, Chris Brown and Rihanna were in the club, some spot in LA. The party was by a clothing line called “Popular Demand” and they were celebrating their one year anniversary. CB and RiRi were in attendance, and I heard, enjoying themselves. Soon thereafter, Drake came up. My source tells me they kept Drizzy at the door for a full 30 minutes until he left. The next day, lawsuits were filed.
READ ABOUT THAT HERE!
I guess, they were just worried that another fight may pop off.

(AllHipHop News) The Chris Brown-Drake nightclub fight saga continues, and the two stars are planning to take the next round of the battle to the courtroom. According to TMZ, Brown and Drake both filed legal suits against each other recently claiming that the other was responsible for the late night brawl that broke out at the W.i.P. nightclub last summer.
The bottle-throwing altercation in the VIP section of the SoHo club caused extensive damage to the venue and several people were injured including club patrons, NBA star Tony Parker, and Brown himself.
The “Don’t Judge Me” singer and the “Started From The Bottom” rapper both managed to avoid criminal charges from the fight, but they have been named in a civil lawsuit from French model Romain Julien who is claiming that he has suffered permanent damage to his right hand as a result of the melee.
Last August, Brown and Drake were also sued by the owners of the W.i.P. club asking for $16 million for damages and ruining the reputation of the brand. Jon Bakhshi, owner of the club, claimed that his Entertainment Enterprises was about to close a $4 million deal to expand his clubs nationally, but the fight at W.i.P. effectively scared off other investors.
Now Drake and Brown have apparently turned to sue each other in order to get a judge to decide who was responsible for the fight. The guilty party would then be forced to pay any damages resulting from the civil lawsuit filed against both performers by Julien.
Brown has had a string of legal issues arise in recent weeks. On February 6, he was back in court in Los Angeles to face a possible probation violation stemming from his 2009 assault on girlfriend Rihanna.

Combining slapping claps, a booming sub and an atmospheric flow from Kool Keith, TOKiMONSTA lays down electronic synths, tribal percussion and an every changing beat sequence to give us something to run back again and again.

(AllHipHop News) Bronx, New York rapper Tim Dog has died from a seizure according to numerous reports.
The rapper, born Timothy Blair, suffered from a seizure, from complications associated with diabetes, according to The Source.
Tim Dog, 46, recorded early tracks with legendary rap collective Ultramagnetic MC’s, but he was best known for his debut album Penicillin on Wax, which contained the diss song “F**k Compton.”
The song, which was one of the first shots fired in a mounting feud between rappers on the East and West Coasts, helped fuel a series of replies from rappers on the West coast, including Compton’s Most Wanted, DJ Quik, Dr. Dre and others.
In later years, Tim Dog recorded with Kool Keith in the group Ultra with Kool Keith.

(AllHipHop News) The Internet dance craze called the “Harlem Shake” has garnered over 44 million YouTube views worldwide, but there’s one person that has yet to speak on the phenomenon. That’s G-Dep, the former Bad Boy Records artist, that helped popularize the original version of the dance that came out of kids in Harlem, USA.
“Yea I got an idea of whats going on with it, them guys that put that out, they from China?” G. Dep asked, speaking to AllHipHop.com exclusively. “Thats crazy, I mean that’s love, at the same time but coming from Harlem, if it’s not the Harlem Shake that’s not what it is. I mean that’s obvious. ”
Presently, Dep is serving 15-life after confession to a 2-decades old unsolved murder.
While the first version of Harlem Shake originally spawned from G Dep’s song “Special Delivery” back in the late 1990’s, the newest version of the song only slightly resembles the strut G. Dep and Diddy created.
In the videos people from across the world have attempted the new Harlem Shake synching their flailing body movements to Baauer’s EDM song called “Harlem Shake.”
Currently, Baauer is an artist signed to famed producer Diplo’s imprint called MadDecent, a label and artists that G. Dep was unaware of at the time of the interview.
G. Dep even was still a little unclear about what exactly the dancers were doing, and while he said he appreciated the “love,” he also made it explicitly clear that the new dance is not the Harlem Shake as it was known in the 2000’s.
“We gonna call it the ‘Harlem Shake Part 2.’ We can’t call it the Harlem Shake, we gotta at least call it the Harlem Shake part 2, because from what I understand they aren’t even doing the Harlem Shake,” G Dep said. “So we just talking about anything now? Anything is the Harlem Shake? Its like, I had a bowl of cereal today, lets call it the Harlem Shake.”
Jokingly G. Dep suggested that Harlem should adopt the phrase “Harlem Shake” as a slang term of sorts.
“It ain’t really defining the culture of Harlem, coming from Harlem and bringing the rhythm, but you know we can call it the Harlem Shake Part 2. We gonna make a new slang out of it. It’s like, ‘I was walking down the street and… oh man that was the Harlem Shake.’ ” G. Dep joked.

Just last year G. Dep turned himself in for having shot a man in 1993 unaware that he killed the man. G. Dep was sentenced to a 15-year to life sentence and is currently serving his bid on Rikers Island.
As for G. Dep’s music and if he’s had any contact with Diddy, G Dep said has music on deck and that he only remains in contact with Black Rob.
“I’m still writing, we got some music we gonna put out real soon. I’m going to put out that we were working on before I came in . Look out for that sooner than later, as far as me getting something out there that would be a plus and we working on getting something out there on a bigger scale,” he said.
“I haven’t spoken with Diddy, but I still write back and forth with Black Rob from time to time, we write each other and I know he’s putting out his album.”
As our time on the call with G Dep was running out due to Rikers Island jail call restrictions, G. Dep left AllHipHop with a few parting words.
“I just want to thank everyone for their support, keep shaking man. This telephone call is Harlem Shake man,” he ended with one last quip.
Check out the original “Harlem Shake” in G-Dep’s “Lets Get It”
Here is the new version of the dance…that’s not quite a dance.

Remember back in the day when Chris Brown was known as a Blood gang member? I do!
Well, it seems that CB is at it again and this time it is with a Crip. Seems that CB was making a speed walk to the Lamb when somebody had something to say about his expeditiousness! The joke didn’t go over too well. Here is what happened, per TMZ:
Crip: “I ain’t never seen a ni**a jump in a car that fast, ni**a. Yo, scary-ass Chris is that motherfu**er bulletproof?””
Chris “Not-A-Blood” Brown: “Is yo’ a** bulletproof, NAGA?”
Crip: “I’m a crip ni**er, hell yeah, I’m bulletproof!”
Chris “Not-A-Blood” Brown then gives the Crip some ominous advice, which only somebody of much power could give.
Chris: “Don’t get f**ked up out here, my n**ga.”
To be fair, he’s denied being a blood.

Another day, another RAGING SHE-FIGHT involving one of the stars of “Love & Hip Hop” with hair-pulling, name-calling and a nasty panther-like, claw-first takedown. It all went down at a fancy party inside a nail salon in Manhattan when Erica Mena got into a heated discussion with a blonde lady named Tiffany. Multiple people who were at the party tell us the two were squabbling over a man and Tiffany implied that she had hooked up with Erica’s BF in the past. Erica DECKED Tiffany and all hell broke loose.
