Dame Dash Talks Jay Z, Dipset & Being A Boss

(AllHipHop News) Dame Dash’s place in Hip Hop history is secure. The Harlemite helped established one of the most successful labels in the genre’s existence with Roc-A-Fella Records, effectively helping to launch the careers of Jay Z, Kanye West, and Dipset.

Dame recently participated in Vibe’s “My Philosophy” interview series, and he spoke on his business career, overcoming adversity, and his relationships with Jay, Jim Jones and Cam’Ron.

“I don’t think because people part ways in business that they should be considered enemies. I think that’s just some hype and bulls**t that the press sold,” said Dame. “Anytime that I ran into Jay that is what it was going to be. I’m not mad at him. I made too much money to be mad at him.”

A couple of things jump out at me with these videos….. Jigga really hurt Dame to his SOUL. It’s evident. Dame doesn’t mean for it to come out, it just does. He’ll be on a positive roll and then he’ll deviate to reminiscing about various days of past.

Second…. Loyalty. I know what everyone will say. Jay-Z did Dame wrong. Or Kanye wasn’t disloyal to Dame. But at the end of the day, in business, loyalty only lies two places…. With the money and with the ability to get more of that money. These 2 dollar street rules that everyone comes up with absolutely kills me. Biz is Biz. Get money or get gone.

Maybe Dame will be on top again one day. You can never rule anyone out. But right now it’s looking like he was his own biggest enemy. Although he was doing work for Jay, Dame burned so many bridges that it’s going to be a massive struggle for him to come up. But I wish him the best.

thumb up for this right here.

My past and current sentiments on Dame and almost verbatim…..Black Jay speaks the truth….but more than that it’s reality…embrace it.

“Dame doesn’t mean for it to come out, it just does. He’ll be on a positive roll and then he’ll deviate to reminiscing about various days of past. ”
Its called being Real. Also he had no media to express his points. I would love to see how you feel if a Nigga did that shit to you. Easier to speak from 3rd person. And I doubt you would know the business in your early 20’s compared to early 40’s

      • Black Jay

First of all, what person on earth has never been stabbed in the back? We all get it.

But here’s the bigger point…. Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t Dame get $30 Million from the Rocawear buyout? Where did that money go? And we’re supposed to have pity for him? What about the countless “brothers” that lost their jobs when Dame was on top? How many careers is he personally responsible for terminating because they didn’t kiss his ass enough? Oh but nobody wants to talk about that. This dude was dirty just like Jigga. He just didn’t have the intelligence to survive in that game. Biz is cruddy….
You see, the thing that pisses me off about people like you is that you choose sides and act like one person is guilty and the other person is clean. How can two people swimming in mud both be clean? They both have dirt on them. Jigga and Dame. So stop acting like this dude was a prince and was done wrong. Dame killed many people’s livelihoods when he was on top. Karma is a beast.

    YEAH BUT ON THE REAL—–

IN THE REAL BUSINESS, WELL BEYOND PETTY ARGUMENTS AND SQUABBLES IS THE ABILITY TO NOT STAB EACH OTHER IN THE BACK.

YEAH IF YOU AINT BRINGING IT—THEN YOU HAVE TO MOVE ASIDE.

BUT AS PEOPLE OF COLOR–WE DO THAT TO EACH OTHER AND THEN THATS ANOTHER BLACK/SPANISH/ASIAN/ PERSON OUT OF A JOB.

WE HAVE TO STOP FIGHTING AMONGST OURSELVES, BECAUSE IN THE END WE STILL HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE WHITE ESTABLISHMENT.

IM SURE JAY DID STAB DASH IN THE BACK—- JAY DOESNT HAVE THE BUSINESS ACUMEN TO “DO” WHAT HE IS DOING.

DAME WILL COME BACK OUT ON TOP, AND HE WILL DO IT BY STAYING TRUE TO WHAT HE ORIGINALLY DID.

JAY, I DONT KNOW. HE IS WALKING A TIGHT ROPE–AND IN BED WITH COMPANIES AND MEN WHO WOULD BURY JAY.

ITS A DIFFERENT WORLD IN BIZ THAN MUSIC.

    • Black Jay

No offense to you dude and I hear what you’re saying but….. THIS IS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!!! This country was built on stabbing people in the back (what up Native Americans, wherever you are). It ain’t right, but it is what it is.
I hate people to try to come up with this PSEUDO CODE OF ETHICS, like they’re living in church or something. Biz is the dirtiest, grimiest, filthiest thing in the world. Show me a rich person and I’ll show you a list of people they took a dump on to get it. I don’t feel bad for any of them. Because truth be told, where were people like you when they were pushing poison in the communities and destroying countless lives with that stuff on wax? Yeah, Jay is paid. But if we lived in the church world (according to your diatribe) Jay AND Dame would be going to hell. Them dudes ain’t selling Girl Scout cookies. They selling b*tches, hoes, n*ggas, crack, and whatever other words to get people’s asses moving.

Biz is grimy. Helping your fellow brother out and living by some pseudo ethics? Good for the church world but bad in reality. Get your paper dude!

      • Pierre Elliott

        CANT DISAGREE—- THATS REAL.

      • Black Jay

Appreciate the dialog though…. Good perspective.

      • SDS_Overfiend

        Until it happens to you….

      • Black Jay

I’m not sure what your comment means…. It’s not logical. Of course it can happen to anyone. So what was your point?

Man Damn Just Changed My Entire Outlook On Life Deep Interview

  • MR. UNDI$PUTED THE MOGUL

Dame was & can still be a GREAT Businessman he just needs to focus on something that has a REAL chance at Success & not some random weird idea that he thinks he can make some quick money with! Dudes who don’t like Jay will always blame Jay for the break up. They never mention Dame getting off on screaming & yelling at cats he thought he had power/leverage over or who he thought were beneath him!!!! TRUE TALENT will always overcome someone with “Perceived” Business Acumen! Suge talked all that shit about Dre when he left Death Row & how he left with no REAL Money, flash forward years later look how much money Dr. Dre has now & not putting up with Suge’s street BS!!!! Same with Jay look how much money he’s made since parting ways with Dame! Some people don’t like the Truth!! Lastly Cam’ron talks all the time about how close Dame & he are yet when the ROC broke up he could have easily went with Dame Dash Music Group which would have allowed Dame to maintain some Success & Money going forward. If he knows Dame is a Top Notch Executive & he believes Dame knows how to run things why’d he not sign with him & Biggs’ new label?!?!!? No one ever mentions that either!!!!!

  • Elayorx El

Wow. He said, “Circle of Success”. I remember when cats used to rap about that, in the not so distant past, and then, unfortunately, went away from that code. This touched the soul right here, and I know first hand what Dame speaks of when he mentions truly wanting to be his own boss. MOST, are not built for this, and take the shortcut route when the first opportunity presents itself, but I would rather choose the road Dame is on, because there is nothing worse in life, than for a REAL man, to have to switch up their pitch upon the entrance of a little known underwriter. Just disgusting!

  • RIV

That was some real sh*t he said when alluding to the changing voices and the changing demeanor when the little old white men walks in the room lol… you got make your own lane….

JAY was the “golden egg” that got away..and before Dame, Cam, and other Harlem associates cooked Jay’s *ss. Reflection: Dame and dudes associated live with the crumbs of their success because they have no other choice. For Dame the music biz was a scam, a laundry mat, a filter to a well established criminal enterprise in the street. Laced with quick money and short vision. Jay again was and is the big picture. Tip for Dame, open a record shop. Push local Harlem artist and give advice and grow old. Loose the sadly apparent bitterness and try writing a book on your life and the rise of a loud mouth music industry mogul with a good heart. Oh and hold on to those aces bruh.

Dame puts it out there pretty real in my opinion. Jay did sell out and he does work for companies. Now they say Dame was an a-hole in meetings and rubbed a lot of the honchos the wrong way, whereas Jay smiled and gladhanded people to get ahead. Just two different approaches. I’ve seen Jay change his voice when talking with certain people. I’m not saying Jay screwed over Dame and Biggs, but Jay was offered a carrot to break ties with his partners. Imaginne how powerful the Roc would be if they stuck together.

    • Nemo hos

Tru,..I always listened to Dame but never to Gay-Z

  • EL_BARK

Lol if u cant understand the gripe people have with jay. I can only assume u spent very little time in the streets or around street cats… Because street cats view on loyalty is often munderstood….
Again business is one thing, but jay didnt just end his partnership with dame & biggs.
He forced then out and and took their company from them. & then flip it…..
Its not what jay did, its how he did it that makes him a foul cat. Stop disguising grimey unloyal acts as business…. Its wasnt businees it was personal and even stevie wonder can see that.

Sone of u niggas will sell ur momma if the price is right and say its business.

    • SDS_Overfiend

      THE REAL TRUTH!!

    • Black Jay

People… be proud of where you come from. Nobody can take that from you. But me personally? I’m more proud to have parents that kept my ass out of the streets. And that’s real.

And you’re right. Some people will sell their mothers if the price is right. No complaints there. But that’s reality and it won’t change. No matter who says it will.

    • Henry Douglas

You obviously never spent time in the streets. Dame had 35 mill when he walked away. He’s broke now. If you ever really grinded thats unacceptable. He said saving money is for suckers!lol. Nah, a real g is gonna have at least 5 mill up for a rainy day making that kind of money. All jays beefs is what he wont do for people not what he owes them. Noone ever sued for an owed check from jay. We all men and the cream rises. Now 10 yrs later hes still talking about the rock n jay has kept growing. 13 straight number 1 albums and counting. His last album went double platinum when records aint selling. Yea his business is tight but he’s still the king of ny till someone starts selling. Dame is smart but he says alot of bs and dudes go for it. If he’s such a genius why is he still in debt?

      • EL_BARK

why are you even commenting on a post from a year ago

  • Kevin Anthony

Love that Rocafella era. “Food for thought” Now playing on soundcloud .com Kevin Anthony-21 Get Sum.

  • General Kimpa Vita

Dame Dash summarized the current state of Hip Hop culture from a purely business standpoint and still connected to the streets. It was precise, concise and to the point to let the people know where real power resides. He was spitting a lot of real life experiences and wisdom in a codified context to let the people know the importance of OWNERSHIP. It is imperative to build a foundation by YOURSELF without the money from the “system.” That simple.

  • Clifton Powell

    Dame is absolutely RIGHT!

  • SDS_Overfiend

I respect ANY NIGGA WHO SPEAK THE SAME WHEN ANY NIGGA WALKS INTO THE ROOM. Dame… I Salute you. Jay did you dirty.. and if it was street.. A Nigga would get laid down for that bitch Move.

    • Black Jay

Respect who you want. BUT DAME IS NOT INNOCENT! He killed hundreds of careers on ego. He squandered his money. That’s on him! Not Jay! Let’s say we don’t count any of his other money that he earned, DAME still got $30 Million Dollars from his Rocawear buyout! If he’s the business man that all of you claim he is, why isn’t he prospering? Why is the IRS after him? It seems to me that if you have the built up intelligence, you will eat no matter what. Just like Dr. Dre did with Death row. He didn’t stop. He gave everything to Shug and still came up hundreds of millions strong. Why is Dame talking about art shops and going into things he clearly has no expertise in? Why isn’t he staying with the thing that made him rich? Jay said it best when he said, “OK so, make another HOV!”
The truth of the matter is ROCAFELLA RECORDS WAS A WELL OILED MACHINE. Each member was an integral part of that machine. Everyone played a position. Jay was the headpiece and the brain. And Dame was the enforcer. The yin and yang. They worked well together. The biz they did was dirty. They are equally to blame.
