Nas Drops Controversial Song "Be A Ni**er Too"; Calls Out All Races

By Nolan Strong

Queensbridge rapper has just released a new song titled "Be A Ni**er Too," a track from his highly anticipated album, Ni**er.

The single "Be A Ni**er Too" is the first official release from Nas’ album, which has drawn intense scrutiny due to the album’s simple, yet controversial title.

The lyrics on "Be A Ni**er Too" gives listeners a glimpse into the direction Nas’ album may take.

On the track, which was produced by Salaam Remi and Big Jack, Nas makes his stance on the N-word clear through his lyrics and a slowed down delivery.

"The real Ni**ers are back on the radio," Nas says, before launching into his verse.

"Not mad cause Eminem said Ni**er/Cause he’s my Ni**er/Wigger/Cracker friend/We all black within/ We all African within/Some African’s don’t like us no way/A killin happened in Johannesburg yesterday.”

In a song that could be a lighting rod for controversy, Nas references the tragic murder of reggae star Lucky Dube in Johannesburg in October of 2007 and in the same line, name check’s the NAACP.

The hook for the song is a play on Dr. Pepper’s famous "Wouldn’t You Like to Be a Pepper Too" advertising slogan.

"I’m a Ni**er/He’s a Ni**er/she’s a Ni**er /we’s some Ni**ers/wouldn’t you like to be a Ni**er too," Nas raps.

On the rest of the chorus, Nas name check’s Jews (Kike Ni**ers), Hispanics (Spic Ni**ers), Italians (Guinea Ni**ers) and Asians (Chink Ni**ers), by using their respective racial epithets and embraces them as his Ni**ers.

“They like to strangle Ni**ers/blame a Ni**er/shoot a Ni**er/hang a Ni**er/still you wanna be a Ni**er too?/True.”

Nas' upcoming album Ni**er is due in stores this year on Island Def Jam, a unit of Universal Music Group.

Nas has always been in introspective dude.  His real strength is not making commercial songs, but rather talking to people through rap.  Nas has a voice and isn't afraid to use it to speak what's on his mind even if it will garner extreme scrutiny.  Gotta respect that on some level.  Real talk.

It's nothing wrong with going left when everyone chooses to go right.

I dont know i feel like this is a real sensitive topic and Nas should of been more creative with the song. I like it but there is not enough energy on the track. this song is a one shot deal. You either get our attention with this contraversial song or you lose us. The word nigga gone turn heads reguardless. Change the beat and put more energy on this shit. Other than that i love it. I like the word nigga too LOL sorry.

You know what...I ain't got no more respect for this cat.

Nas was once considered one of the greatest of all time.  He was once my favorite of all time.  But he's such a dumb ass.  Niggas kill me.  We name check everybody and anybody who's black.  We got a problem with other black people.  Yet, NOBODY (with credibility, anyway) checked Eminem for that shit he pulled.  In fact, we're co-signing him?????  So in other words, Nas ain't mad that Eminem used the word nigger, or the fact that he called black women "dumb bitches."  Fucking retard.  Hip Hop is Dead, and Nas killed it.  Somebody needs to lynch this porch monkey!

Honestly I think that with the way people throw around the use of the word it was time for someone to say something about it. After that Kanye "Gold digger" song mad people thought that it was cool to use the word...

We all know where the word comes from, but its still used... There is actually a good movie about it called "Guilty or Innocent of Using the N-Word" directed by Bhavna Malkani with M-1, the 49ers, Grouchy Greg from Allhiphop.com and Philly rapper "The Last Emperor"... Def Check it out its won some awards...

LOL some one said that he stood up for Eminem but he actually called him a cracker. You gotta listen. LOL every one is has thier own opinion on this very touchy subject but i kinda on one hand think Nas crossed the line with this one. People need to listen to the message in the track. It takes a while to get across but to me, he's saying that everybody wants to "Be a N***** Too", but before you do that you need to think about what that really means. Pay close attention to the last verse "They hang N******", etc. and maybe the point will get across.
I see it as a double edged sword:
It's trying to make people understand that this whole thing about how some want to think that being one is cool, is, in fact, not something you should want to be, because the meaning of the word is ignorant.

At the same time, it may also be trying to take the edge off the word at the same time, by making people realize its just nothing more than a word.

Personally, I like the former intention much more than the later, and hope that's the true meaning of the track.

First off let me touch down on the Eminem comment in the song, Nas got that shit right! Im from Michigan and if ya dont know or have ever been in Michigan then u would never understand why a 15 year Em would say that shit. We are from probaly the most segragated place in america. Its that bad. Alot of different races not only grow up not fuckin wit others one, but most times or not u not even around them and when u is its probaly a problem in some shape of form. So I aint hanging Em for that song. I moved from Mi when I was 17 and Ive exprienced so much different shit that Im not the same person I was 7 years ago. Ya cant judge some one ya dont know or dont understand. As far as the song that shit is hot and I cant wait for the album. It would be the first album Ive bought since American Gangster. i hear what you're trying to say, but your argument is a little faulty.  racial segregation is a justification for racial slurs (and insensitive racial thoughts)?  michigan ain't the only place with some segregation.  by your rationale, everythang goin down in the south in the 60s was cool, just cuz there's segregation.  you're analyzing society for the reasons for the ills, which is cool.  just go all the way with it.  don't justify.  analyze AND criticize when you see something wrong.

Nas is so lost for this Nigger issue..And most of all isn't the song from a different artist? I think i heard it from Onyx in the 90's..You would think that he is trying to send out a positive message, but to me Nas is just plain wack..

One more thing...

To all those co-signing Eminem and giving him a pass and making an effort to "understand" why he said what he said, blaming it on racial barriers in Michigan, blazay-blazay...

Do me a favor, next time a black man (whose supposed to be your brother by the way) steps on your shoes, looks at you the wrong way, comes from a different place than you, or bumps into you by accident...give him a pass too.

Nobody is saying to hang Eminem for shit he said when he was 15 or 16 (but if you wanna get technical, he still teases around with the subject, listen to MMLP). The point I'm getting at is Nas is really living up to that black-face, Nigger shit.  I can't even respect Ether anymore...how you gonna go at Jay-Z or anybody for something silly, then give Eminem a pass for flat-out racism????????  But its not just him...that's the mindset of nearly half of the African American population.  We kill each other over bullshit, but won't stand for a real cause.

I don't care who doesn't like what I have to say.  Nas is wack to me now!  He's killing Hip Hop by being an attention whore with the system's dick up his ass.  PERIOD!

HIP-HOP IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you Nas.

For those who don't understand, this is called UNITY!!!!!! We are not the only race that has to deal with racism people. If y'all are blind as hell, open your eyes. He's not giving Eminem a pass to the degree that people think. He's basically saying that we are all the same. Talking about passes, that damn Paris Hilton got a HUGE pass for saying "Nigger." Nigger is what white people called us years ago. "Nigga" is a whole other definition than what it was. Besides, call we please get this pop ass hip-hop off of the airwaves!!!!!!! We complain about hip-hop is dead. Then when we get some real hip-hop, we won't support it. That's that "Nigger" shit. When we stop hating on our black people, that's that "nigga" shit.

Its crazy how people trippin over a fuckin word! LOL. Ima black man too and lets be realistic most of us aint get chase by no dogs, or had to go to bathrooms that says colors only, or eat off dirty ass plates like the people did back in them days. We exprience different kinds of racism. For everything our people went through back then and how we treat each other now is bullshit. The same people in a up roar on how bogus Nas is for this shit probaly be the same mothafuckaz that runnin around saying " man fuck that hoe azz nigga" all the time. The point is its 2 sides to everything. Most people is always upset about racist shit but nobody wants to talk about it and understand why shit is done.
@ Richie Sick
U made a good point. The arguement is faulty. Thats the point though. Arguing over race will always be a faulty arguement because its never talked about in a real way. For us as minorities to be pissed over racial slurs from a Eminem, we shouldnt be constantly beefing with each other over nothing. Hispanics vs Blacks, Mongs vs Chinese, Whites vs Everybody,  its a never ending cycle. Until a real conversation is had it will always be around just in different forms. I aint vouching for that shit Em said in no way, but being from where he from I know why he would say some ignorant shit like that as a kid. But lets be real, As a whole us as black people is probally the most racist fuckin race out of all!!! We stay angry about some shit. Im not sayin all of us, Im saying majority. For us to fight the race war with other people we all have to start with ourself. If something would ever get fixed on this subject people will have to forgive shit and let it go.

P.S
I dont usually write this much on this sight so I think Nas is gettin done what he wants too with this subject! lol
