    Super producer Timbaland has filed a lawsuit against his record label, Blackground Entertainment. The lawsuit was filed today (March 25) according to TMZ.com. According to reports, Timbaland is suing Blackground, claiming executives at the company contacted various record labels, in an attempt to sabotage his career as a producer. He also claims Blackground owes him an undisclosed amount of money. He is suing to be released from the contract and seeks unspecified damages. Blackground was once a dominant force in the music industry, owned by father and son team Barry and Jomo Hankerson. The label is best known for releasing records by artists like Aaliyah, Ginuwine, Tank and Timbaland and Magoo and Toni Braxton.

    See this is what i always talk about. You people sit here and believe what is fed to you and when it all hits the fan then the truth comes out..
    About a mouth ago i was arguing with someone on this site about Artist that claim they have and own things and they really dont..Timbaland was one of the people in the conversation and i simply said that just because an Artist says he or she owns something doesn't mean that they actually do..
    Now here we have Timbaland suing a record company that he himself stated the he owned...
    This article prove me right...

    BLACKGROUND ISN'T TIMBO'S.  HE HAD BEAT CLUB BEFORE BUT THAT FOLDED.  NOW HE'S GOT MOSLEY MUSIC GROUP DISTRIBUTED BY INTERSCOPE.  HE'S NOT SUING HIS OWN LABEL.  THAT'S THE LABEL HE FIRST SIGNED TO BEFORE HE STARTED HIS OWN WITH BEAT CLUB THEN MOSLEY MUSIC GROUP.

    BUBBA SPARXXX WAS SIGNED TO HIS BEAT CLUB IMPRINT NOT BLACKGROUND.

    Blackground Records is an American record label, owned by entertainment attorney and artist manager Barry Hankerson and his son Jomo Hankerson. The label is home to Aaliyah, Timbaland & Magoo, JoJo, Tank, and Ginuwine.

    In 1993, when Hankerson's teenaged niece Aaliyah couldn't get a record deal, Hankerson formed the label, and she became its first signee. At the time, Hankerson was managing R. Kelly, and was able to get his label Jive Records to distribute Blackground's releases. In 1996 Blackground obtained a lucrative distribution deal with Atlantic Records, just before the release of Aaliyah's second album, One in a Million.

    Often playing distributor hopscotch, in 2000, Blackground switched over to EMI's Virgin Records. Two years later, it moved again, this time finding a home at Universal Motown Records Group.

    Currently the most successful acts from the label are Aaliyah and Timbaland.

    In 2002, Universal Records bought the label and is looking to shut it down, all the artists are moved to either Interscope , Motown Records or Republic Records.

    As of 2008, it is unknown whether Blackground is still a functioning label or not. They currently have no distribution and are having trouble getting a new deal. They still hold on to the few acts they have with what seems like no intention of ever putting them out.

    [edit] The following artists signed to Blackground

       * Aaliyah
       * Timbaland & Magoo
       * Timbaland
       * Julian Hernandez
       * Tank
       * Playa
       * Static Major
       * Lea
       * Hardnox

    THERE YOU GO!  ONE!!!
