You very lucky to be a cancer survivor, many people don't survive cancer. I lost 2 Uncles, within a 6 month span in late 08 and early 09. One had stomach cancer, and the other had kidney cancer. R.I.P Apache

When I heard the news of Apache's passing, I could only say, "Damn!!" I had the pleasure and privilege of knowing Apache while working with Lakim Shabazz and the Flavor Unit during the recording of "The Lost Tribe Of Shabazz" and "The 45 King Presents The Flavor Unit". My contribution to those projects is but a footnote in history, but the time I shared with the Unit at Airwave and Calliope is imprinted in my memory by the presence of APACHE.

At the time, I didn't really know the full scope of his affiliation, but when Lakim, Latee, Mark or whoever said that Apache was the shit, well, I wasn't going to second guess the vanguard. Needless to say, Apache's reputation preceded him, to say the least.

Whenever I happened to see him in the studio, Apache was always on some EXTRA EXTRA shit. (in a good way). Dude had mad jokes and was full of life. He always went out of his way to acknowledge me and was very generous when giving me props for the work I was doing.

While we were recording "No Justice. No Peace." back in 1990, Apache was part of the background crowd effects during the choruses. He made that s**tLIVE! In fact, one of my favorite parts of the song was at the very end when he began chanting and everyone followed, "PEACE TO ALLAH'S NATION!!! PEACE TO ALLAH'S NATION!!!"

Later, as the Flavor Unit evolved and my time with them had passed, I could see Apache's imprint all over the place. He was definitely the heart and soul of the Flavor Unit and an unsung legend whose contribution to HIP HOP will always be remembered. PEACE TO ALLAH'S NATION. Peace to APACHE.

Today I was affected by hearing about the death of Apache. I think what saddened me the most is that I texted about 10 people to RIP Apache and no one knew him. As I reflected, I pondered two questions. First, why was he indelibly imprinted in my mind? And second, how is it that my contemporaries could not resurrect a skeletal memory of Apache and his work. I can hear the song "GANGSTA b***h " in my ear as we speak.
This song suggests that rugged, around the way chicks can be appealing. And furthermore, in  the process they didn't lose their femininity nor were they misconstrued as being anything other than feminine.  Today there is no voice that allows women this latitude. Timbs and sex appeal are presented as archenemies. I believe that both can co exist in one person and can be ascribed to one's sexiness.  RIP, "Apache" Thank You!
