(AllHipHop News) A mother will always defend her daughter. In a recently released statement, Cissy Houston slams the upcoming Lifetime biopic about Whitney Houston’s relationship with Bobby Brown, claims the family is not involved in the film.
Back in May, Whitney Houston’s co-star in the film “Waiting To Exhale”, Angela Basset was announced as the director of the upcoming Lifetime biopic. While Bassett starred in the movie with her, she admitted to Entertainment Weekly on June 26th that she does not consider the two to have ever had a close relationship:
No, I don’t. I can’t. I can’t say that, but I think that I had an opportunity, of course, to appreciate and love her from afar and then to spend time with her in a working situation.
According to Cissy Houston’s statement obtained by Entertainment Tonight, “Lifetime has chosen to go ahead with the movie about Whitney in spite of my family’s objections.” She does not name Bassett by name but does remark that the people working on the film did not have intimate knowledge of Houston’s life:
No one connected with this movie knew Whitney or anything about her relationship with Bobby. In the two years since Whitney’s death, many people have stepped forward to speak about their close relationship with her. I find it difficult to believe people who knew and supposedly loved her would participate in a movie about her done by folks who didn’t know her.
At the end of the statement, Cissy writes “Please please let her rest.”
Whitney Houston’s music will be featured in the Lifetime biopic, however they will be covers sang by Deborah Cox due to Lifetime’s inability to secure her song rights.
