(AllHipHop News) Akon wanted to help the people of Puerto Rico who were without power more than five months after a devastating hurricane.

The 44-year-old rapper-turned-philanthropist told a reporter from TMZ.com that his organization, the Akon Lighting Africa company, could have restored power back to the residents of the stricken island within weeks.

However, Akon revealed that his offer to help after Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico last September was rejected by government officials.

“We actually presented a program for Puerto Rico and we got rejected. We have the solution for Puerto Rico… and we could’ve had power back in 30 days. And they rejected us,” he said. “It’s politics, propaganda, and special interests. They didn’t care about the people—if that was the case, they would have allowed us to go in and provide the solution.”

More than five months after the storm ravaged the island, 83 per cent of residents have finally had their power restored.

The “Locked Up” hitmaker reportedly struck a $50 million deal with government officials in Mozambique to bring electricity to rural areas in the country in October last year.

The Akon Lighting Africa company, which he co-founded in 2013 to provide electricity to some of Africa’s most impoverished rural areas, has also been expanded to Latin America, while also setting up the Solar Academy in Mali to teach engineers how to harness the power of the sun’s energy.

(AllHipHop News) Mathew Knowles claims false accusations that he sold off Beyonce memorabilia cost him a $175 million deal to promote a major Texas resort.

Last year, the “Crazy in Love” singer’s father was sued by his former lawyers Lang Ferrer PLLC, who accused him of refusing to pay a $50,000 bill.

The lawsuit, filed in Houston Texas, accused Mathew of holding an auction of Beyonce and Destiny’s Child memorabilia over the 2017 Super Bowl weekend, but shielding the money raised from his creditors.

Although he admits selling off some sports items, he denies their allegations and has counter-sued Lang Ferrer bosses for defamation, seeking $2 million in damages.

Mathew filed new legal documents accusing his former lawyers of threatening, prior to the lawsuit, that they would make things “ugly for him” if he did not pay them “excessive and unreasonable” invoices.

He claims they leaked their accusations to the press, and that a number of businesses and organizations pulled out of a deal with his company Music World as they believed he had sold off his daughter’s memorabilia.

Mathew, 66, says that the lost deals included one worth $175 million with executives at Texas resort Port Royal Resort.

He also claims the accusations cost him a tenured professorship at Texas Southern University and a major music licensing deal.

Beyonce’s father, a music manager who oversaw Destiny’s Child’s career before his daughter left the group in 2006, is asking the court not to dismiss his defamation counter-suit.

Apparently, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian are on one team. Kris Jenner, Khloe Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, grandmother Mary Jo Campbell, and Kim’s cousin Cici Bussey will be part of the opposing side.

(AllHipHop News) Massachusetts emcee Joyner Lucas and Virginia vocalist Chris Brown are partnering for a joint project. Angels and Demons will be arriving in the coming weeks, but first, they let loose visuals for “Stranger Things.”

The video quickly became the #1 trending content on YouTube. “Stranger Things” collected over 1 million views in its first day on the platform.

Lucas actually directed the clip. He and CB star as partying pest control servicemen in the streets of Los Angeles.

(AllHipHop News) It’s clear Black Panther has become a cultural phenomenon. Ryan Coogler’s superhero epic has made over $700 million at the global box office.

While the movie continues to dominate in theaters, the film’s soundtrack once again reigns atop the Billboard 200 chart. Black Panther: The Album earned another 131,000 units in its second week of release.

The project was curated by Compton emcee Kendrick Lamar and Top Dawg Entertainment founder Anthony Tiffith. Two of the records on the project have already broken into the Top 10 on the Hot 100 chart.

Lamar and The Weeknd’s “Pray For Me” peaked at #7. The Lamar and SZA collaboration “All The Stars” has climbed all the way to #9.

(AllHipHop News) The Hip Hop duo PRhyme is preparing to drop their second studio album on March 2. Royce Da 5’9″ and DJ Premier jumped on social media to reveal the other artists they recruited for PRhyme 2.

Roc Marciano, Yelawolf, Rapsody, Big K.R.I.T., 2 Chainz, and CeeLo Green are among the guest features. The lead single “Era” with Dave East landed on the internet last month.

The original PRhyme was released in 2014. Common, Jay Electronica, Ab-Soul, Schoolboy Q, Killer Mike, Mac Miller, and Royce’s super-group Slaughterhouse contributed to that LP.

(AllHipHop News) Someone has the chance to purchase a piece of Drake history for $54,000. The entertainer born Aubrey Graham apparently wrote a lot of notes in a notebook during his days as an actor on Degrassi: The Next Generation.

The journal is now up for sale on an online auction. Potential owners will find lyrics, phone numbers, credit card numbers, and Graham’s signature inside the notebook.

Gary Zimet, owner of MomentsInTime.com, tells TMZ … the notebook was recovered from Drake’s grandpa’s furniture factory in Toronto about a decade ago. We’re told it was nearly thrown out, but someone on the cleanup crew nabbed it and is now selling it on the site. Zimet says he knows the book’s legit based on where it was found, and the signatures look like the one Drake now uses.

(AllHipHop News) Earlier in the week, Young Thug announced he would not release music this year, in support his deaf brother.

During a sit-down with Hypebeast, the rapper revealed his sibling could not hear or speak.

To show his support, Thugger said he was planning to act deaf for the entire year

“So I ain’t going to put out no music this year,” the Atlanta rapper said.

According to a spokesperson for the National Association of the Deaf, Young Thug could make a bigger impact if he actually released his music, and made it accessible to people who are hearing impaired.

“Deaf and hard of hearing people, like everyone else, enjoy all kinds of music especially when the music is made accessible,” a rep for NAD told TheBlast.com.

The rep for NAD said Young Thug should enlist people to translate his raps in to sign language, so deaf people could enjoy his music too.

(AllHipHop News) YoungBoy Never Broke Again has fun afoul of the law again.

The Baton Rouge rapper has been arrested last night (February 24) in Tallahassee, Florida, on a warrant for a felony warrant, including kidnapping.

The 18-year-old rapper’s tour bus was stopped before a show at a local venue called The Moon nightclub in the city, and cops took YoungBoy into custody for an assault and kidnapping, which took place in Georgia.

YoungBoy NBA, born Kentrell Gaulden, was already on 10-years probation, stemming from his role in a drive-by shooting in December of 2016.

YoungBoy is currently locked up and will appear in front of a judge tomorrow (February 26th).

(AllHipHop News) The IRS is seeking hundreds of thousands of dollars from Lil Kim, for money she made in 2016.

According to documents, Kim allegedly owes the IRS $212,000, for money she earned two years ago when she was one of the headlining artists on Diddy’s Bad Boy Reunion Tour.

Back in 2014, Lil Kim also ran afoul of the IRS and was hit with a federal tax lien that same year, for failing to pay in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013.
