Russell Simmons Leads “I Am A Muslim Too” Rally To Protest Donald Trump’s Immigration Policies

(AllHipHop News) Donald Trump is still facing heavy criticism for his proposed immigration policies, including the controversial travel ban for seven Muslim-majority countries.

Thousands of people gathered in New York City’s Times Square on Sunday for the “I Am A Muslim Too” rally.

Hip Hop mogul Russell Simmons was one of the notable figures to take part in the protest.

New York mayor Bill de Blasio and award-winning actress Susan Sarandon spoke at the rally as well.

According to reports, representatives from various religious backgrounds as well as civil rights advocates were also among the speakers to address the crowd.

Simmons documented the event on his Instagram page.

“Amazing show of solidarity. Good start. We have work to do,” wrote the Def Jam co-founder on IG.

Last November, Simmons penned an open letter to his friend Trump.

“Remember that if you make a dangerous move, the people will be at your front door – I am sure you heard the 100,000 people who showed up last night in front of your New York City apartment,” expressed Simmons at the time. “The numbers will only grow and they will be in front of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue every night for four years. And I will be there with them.”

A federal judge issued a nationwide temporary restraining order to halt Trump’s Executive Order calling for the travel ban, and the court decision was upheld by the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

The Trump Administration is expected to draft a new Executive Order in order to pursue its policy of blocking citizens of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen from entering the United States.

Drake Doesn’t Want His Grammy and Says “Hotline Bling” Is Not A Rap Song

(AllHipHop News) Drake doesn’t want his 2017 Grammy Awards because it “feels weird” to accept rap prizes for what he considers a pop song.

The singer won the Best Rap/Sung Performance and Best Rap Song for his track “Hotline Bling” at the Los Angeles prize-giving on February 12, but Drake isn’t happy with the outcome as he disagrees with the genre the song was placed in.

“I’m apparently a rapper, even though “Hotline Bling” is not a rap song,” Drake said during the OVO Sound radio show on Beats 1.

“The only category they can manage to fit me in is in a rap category, maybe because I’ve rapped in the past or because I’m black. I can’t figure out why,” Drake said. “I won two awards, but I don’t even want them because it just feels weird for some reason. It just doesn’t feel right to me.”

Drake also said he feels like he is being “purposefully” alienated by Grammys organizers who are “making” him win rap awards or trying to “pacify” him by putting him on the shortlist for rap awards because they don’t know how else to categorize him.

The rapper/singer, who conducted the interview the day after the awards ceremony, added he was proud to have made a pop song that was “one of the biggest songs of the year” and although he loves the rap community, he can’t understand why he gets no credit for his pop achievements.

The 30-year-old, who said he aspires to be like Michael Jackson, also revealed he had been approached to cancel two of his London concerts so he could attend the ceremony but he turned it down.

The European leg of his Boy Meets World tour began at the end of January and is currently in Dublin, Ireland.

Future Disses Scottie Pippen on “Rent Money”

(AllHipHop News) Rapper Future appears to be using a new song to taunt basketball icon Scottie Pippen over his rumoured fling with the sportsman’s wife Larsa.

The retired athlete filed for divorce to end their 19-year marriage in October of 2016 and Kim Kardashian’s best friend appeared to move on with Future, enjoying a number of outings together in California and Miami, Florida, where the hip-hop star filmed a music video in December.

However, Scottie and Larsa Pippen have since worked out their marital issues and the couple reunited earlier this month, with the sportsman even gushing about their “stronger than ever” family of six on social media on Valentine’s Day.

Now Future has seemingly fired shots at the former Chicago Bulls star over the short-lived romance with his then-estranged wife in the lyrics for his new track “Rent Money.”

“I make blogs with ya b##ch cause I’m ruthless,” Ciara’s ex-fiance boasts on the song, while in another line, he spits, “I just slam dunked ya b##ch, hall of fame.”

Pippen was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010.

He has yet to comment on the apparent lyrical jab.

RIP: The Endlessly Sampled Clyde “Funky Drummer” Stubblefield Dies, Hip-Hop Mourns

(AllHipHop News) Clyde Stubblefield, known as the Funky Drummer, died at the age of 73.

Stubblefield is the most sampled drummer in history for his role in James Brown band and a specific break that has been sampled innumerable times.

Stubblefield died in a Madison, Wisconsin, hospital of kidney failure on Saturday.

Stubblefield, most popular in the 1960’s and 70’s, was world renown for playing jams for James Brown like“Cold Sweat,” “Say It Loud—I’m Black and I’m Proud,” “I’ve Got the Feelin’,” and other songs. However, it was the song “Funky Drummer” that made Stubblefield a Hip-Hop icon.

Public Enemy, Dr. Dre, LL Cool J, Run-D.M.C., Rakim, Beastie Boys, N.W.A. and non-Hip-Hop acts like Ed Sheeran, Sinead O’Connor, Kenny G and George Michael all sampled “The Funky Drummer.” Unfortunately, Stubblefield did not profit greatly in royalties.

Prince personally paid for $80,000 in medical bills for Stubblefield when he was ailing from bladder cancer in 2000.

On Instagram, Questlove said, “Clyde Stubblefield thank you for everything you’ve taught me. The spirit of the greatest grace note left hand snare drummer will live on thru all of us.”

Check out the Funky Drummer.

Big Sean Denies Being Slapped; Claims Mental Patient Lost It

(AllHipHop News) Big Sean has shot down reports that a fan allegedly slapped him after an incident during an album signing event.

Big Sean tried to quell the chatter over the incident, which happened at the FYE record store in Queens, New York as he signed copies of his hit album I Decided.

A video shows an unknown man on the floor of FYE on Friday after being taken down by security guards.

The cops immediately shut down the signing and cleared out the entire FYE after the incident.

Big Sean hit up Twitter and claimed the man was patient from a mental hospital who had just been released.
