Bruno Mars: Black Music Gives America Its Swag

(AllHipHop News) Bruno Mars is an internationally known music superstar.

While the singer-songwriter has built a reputation for making catchy Pop tunes, Mars told Latina that he sees music founded by black musicians, like Hip Hop and R&B, as a powerful force.

“When you say ‘black music,’ understand that you are talking about rock, jazz, R&B, reggae, funk, doo-wop, hip-hop, and Motown. Black people created it all. Being Puerto Rican, even salsa music stems back to the Motherland [Africa],” said Mars. “So, in my world, black music means everything. It’s what gives America its swag.”

The 31-year-old Grammy winner was born in Hawaii, and his parent’s lineage includes Puerto Rican, Filipino as well as Spanish ancestry.

Mars, “I’m a child raised in the ‘90s. Pop music was heavily rooted in R&B from Whitney, Diddy, Dr. Dre, Boyz II Men, Aaliyah, TLC, Babyface, New Edition, Michael, and so much more. As kids this is what was playing on MTV and the radio. This is what we were dancing to at school functions and BBQs.”

Throughout his career, the “24K Magic” performer collaborated with numerous rap acts such as B.o.B., Eminem, Royce da 5’9″, Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa, and Cee Lo Green.

However, not everyone is happy with Bruno’s embrace of Hip Hop.

Angie Stone, a former member of the rap trio The Sequence, expressed her concerns that Mars and Mark Ronson’s smash hit “Uptown Funk” ripped off the group’s 1979 single “Funk You Up.

Marquise Jackson Trolls 50 And 50 Cent Responds Accordingly

(AllHipHop Rumors) I wonder how long this will last. I personally wish they would be cordial. That would be too simple, I think. Marquise Jackson has popped a shot or 2 at his pop on a new song. The most notable line is “Lost my pops, he’s still alive.”

That’s sad. Now there are several other lines that seem like he’s dissing his father, the king of dissing. But those are up for interpretation.

Nevertheless, 50 Cent proceed to celebrate his other son’s birthday and THEN blocked his firstborn from Instagram. DAG! That’s the only way they can communicate!

Check out the song below.

Marquise dropped this on the 14th year anniversary of GRODT! Ballsy!

VH1 Releases ‘The Breaks’ Movie Online Ahead Of TV Series Premiere (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) VH1 is set to premiere the network’s original television series The Breaks later this month.

The forthcoming show spawned from a 2016 TV movie of the same name.

Fans now have a chance to watch, or re-watch, the well-received original film via YouTube.

The Breaks follows Nikki (Afton Williamson), David (David Call), Ahm (Antoine Harris), and DeeVee (Mack Wilds) as they attempt to navigate their way through the music industry of the early 1990’s.

Last year, Wilds spoke to AllHipHop.com about preparing for his role as a DJ and producer.

“I guess the people I used the most for inspiration would be DJ Premier or Pete Rock. I watched tapes of them and read up on them,” said the 27-year-old Staten Island native. “I even got a little tutelage from both of them to make sure the character was portrayed authentically.”

DJ Premier served as executive music producer and composer for the production.

In addition, the cast included Method Man and Wood Harris.

The Breaks movie drew in 2.6 million total viewers for its January ’16 premiere and encore airings.

That was a 42% gain in VH1 viewership for the month among adults under 50.

The Breaks TV show is scheduled to premiere February 20 at 9 pm ET.

Rapper/actor Tip “T.I.” Harris and G.O.O.D. Music artist Teyana Taylor have been attached to the television cast as well.

Anderson .Paak Discusses The Time His Dad Tried To Kill His Mom

(AllHipHop News) Rapper Anderson Paak is up for two Grammy awards, including best new artist.

But his road to success was anything but easy. And best urban contemporary album, thanks to his break-through album, Malibu.

The rapper, who is preparing his upcoming collaboration with Flying Lotus, as well as the debut album from his band, The Free Nationals, sat down with CBS and discussed the intricacies of his career.

“He told me he liked the pain in my voice,” Anderson Paak said of some early advice just before he was signed by super producer, Dr. Dre. “You got that pain in your voice. You got a story in your voice and when I hear it, it sounds like you, only you,” Dr. Dre told the aspiring artist.

But before he found success with Dr. Dre, Anderson Paak released a series of underground records under the name “Breeezy Lovejoy.”

“I thought it was cool, I thought girls would like that name,” he said of his former moniker.

Anderson, who lives in the Koreatown section of Los Angeles with his wife, sat down for a candid interview with CBS News.

According to Anderson Paak, the pain came from real-life incidents, including one in which his father almost beat his mother to death.

“He went from being there every day to I would only see him a few times a week,” Anderson Paak said. “And then, until the day I literally saw him on top of my mom really trying to take my mom’s life. So that was the last time I seen him.”

Anderson Paak suffered another blow, when his mother and new husband ended up in jail, for tax evasion.

Music became the youngster’s refuge in a local Baptist church where Anderson became proficient on the drums.

Anderson Paak will be one of the featured performers during the upcoming Grammy Awards.

The 2017 awards ceremony takes place on Sunday, February 12th and will air live from the Staples Center on CBS.

What Should Beyonce Name Her Twins?

(AllHipHop Rumors) D-Nellz hit the streets and asked the people “What should we be calling Beyonce’s new seeds?” Of course the Destiny’s Child jokes came, but the people had more to offer than that. Check out the video below and comment.

THE BIGGER QUESTION IS: Why aren’t people recognizing Jay Z as the married father and spouse?

AHH Stray News: Meek Returns, Machine Kelly #1, Kevin Liles Discusses Migos Success

https://instagram.com/p/BQMF5WCAzQb/
Meek Mill has apparently lost the battle with his love/hate relationship with his Instagram account. The Philadelphia Hip-Hop star, who deleted his Instagram account in mid-January, is back on the social media service. Meek returned with a series of posts tonight (February 6), with one promoting his upcoming concert “Meek Mill and Friends” which will take place at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on February 10th. The second post appeared to show Meek Mill on the sidelines at the Super Bowl in Houston, where he was apparently celebrating the New England Patriot’s win over the Atlanta Falcons.

Cleveland rapper Machine Gun Kelly is celebrating his first #1 Pop hit on the radio, thanks to his collaboration with Camila Cabello. The pair’s collaboration “Bad Things,” which has been on the Billboard Hot 100 list for a total of 13 weeks, has also clocked over 146 million streams, and is officially certified platinum.

MIgos

The Migos sophomore album CULTURE is currently the #1 album in the country, and Kevin Liles, the co-founder of 300 Entertainment, where the Migos are signed through Quality Control Ent., couldn’t be more elated. “This is the first time that both Migos, Quality Control and 300 Entertainment have earned a #1 spot on the Billboard Top 200 and we are so proud of our artists for crafting not only a brilliant album, but also an undeniable movement…Culture.”
The #1 is quite an achievement for the group, which counts artists like Young Thug, Fetty Wap, Dae Dae, and others as label mates.

Will We See A Lil Kim & Nicki Minaj Collaboration On Kim’s Forthcoming Album?

(AllHipHop Rumors) Azealia Banks just may have gotten it right for once.

We usually don’t want to hear anything the troubled rapper has to say, but I’ll give her a point for this one.

So check it, Lil’ Kim The Queen Bee recently revealed that she’s working on her next album, and, Azealia Banks made a good suggestion! Banks says she really wants to see Lil Kim and Nicki Minaj finally collaborate and do a song together.

“Lil Kim and Nicki need to do a fuxking song together for all little black girls’ sake. It’s annoying how hard they both pretend to not know who each other are.,” posted Banks.

I was always irritated by their beef. I mean females in Hip Hop have almost become extinct, and a thing of the past with Nicki winning Hip Hop Awards for 6 years back to back. It’s like Nicki has had no competition. But for me I want it to be less about competition and more about embracing the next woman, so that females in Hip Hop can make a return.

No matter what Nicki says, the Lil Kim influence in and on her career is obvious. I think both of them would’ve made it more beneficial for both parties to collaborate on a song for the culture than to carry this petty beef.

Hell maybe they should record a few songs together. I’d really like to hear them really spit on the track! Do you think we’ll ever see this collaboration? Side note, I’m starting to believe that rumor that Beyonce doesn’t really care for Rihanna either. LOL. Why haven’t they collaborated?! Carry on!

Big Sean Has Another Release Party In Las Vegas

(AllHipHop News) Big Sean has made it “four for four” when it comes to release parties for his new album, I Decided.

Big Sean has hosted a total of four parties for the album, which was released on February 3rd.

Last week, a variety of celebrities like Chris Brown, Pusha T, Desiigner, Kelly Rowland and others helped Big Sean celebrate at release parties in New York, Los Angeles and Detroit.

Over the weekend, Big Sean held the fourth party for his album in Las Vegas, at Drai’s nightclub Atop The Cromwell in Las Vegas.

Big Sean treated the crowd to the first ever live performances of songs like “Jump Out The Window,” and went through some of his new hits like “Bounce Back,” and “Moves.”

The rapper didn’t seem fazed by the growing controversy surrounding his track “No Favors” with fellow Detroiter, Eminem.

“We have been working on this for a year straight,” Big Sean told the crowd. “The album is finally here, and all I have to say is thank you.”

Beyonce To Reportedly Bring Out Two Special Guests At Coachella!

(AllHipHop Rumors) Queen Bey is just in that elite number of artists man!

Apparently the Beyhive weren’t the only ones freaking out about Beyonce and her pregnancy announcement and how it would affect their Coachella plans. The Coachella producers were allegedly caught off guard too.

Now, it has been reported that the show will go on as normal.

According to TMZ, sources involved with Coachella claim that not only does Beyonce have NO plans of cancelling, she allegedly has already booked two other major artists to join her on stage.

Apparently both of Bey’s guest stars also knew that Beyonce was already pregnant also.

Look, Beyonce actually has some pipes on her. The girl has vocals on deck, so she could sit in a chair and still deliver an amazing performance, better than some of your favorites.

I wonder if her guest stars are so big, that they’ll help her pull the expectation weight though.

One of the performers is said to be from the Roc Nation roster, and the other is signed to a different label.

I’m hoping she will bring out Jay Z. For Jay fans, a surprise Jay Z performance will never get old.

Oh yeah and Beyonce could’ve allegedly cashed out for $1 million whether she performs or not because of her insurance. POW!

It’s dope to see that Bey still plans on performing especially since she’ll be well into her third trimester. Are you planning to attend Coachella?

Game Avoids Jail Time With Plea Deal Over Assault Case

(AllHipHop News) Rapper The Game has avoided jail time in his assault case after reaching a plea deal.

The “Dreams” hitmaker was accused of threatening and assaulting off-duty police officer Onyebuchi Awaji in an altercation during a pick-up basketball game at Hollywood High School in California in 2015.

The Game, real name Jayceon Taylor, claimed self-defense, but he was ordered to stand trial on a felony charge of making criminal threats and a misdemeanour assault and battery count in December, 2015.

He pleaded not guilty and was facing up to three years in prison if convicted.

The trial was postponed last month and the 37-year-old has now struck a plea deal to keep himself out of prison.

According to reports, the rapper has pleaded no contest to misdemeanour battery and criminal threats.

He has been sentenced to three years probation, 120 days of community service, and a 180-day suspended jail sentence. He will also attend 26 anger management classes.

If he gets in any legal trouble over the next three years he could reportedly face jail time.

The deal also covered a felony grand theft charge he was hit with after becoming embroiled in a bust-up with two men who were trying to serve him legal papers over the incident in April, 2015.

An unnamed process server and his photographer, Justin Willard, were allegedly attacked and Willard had his camera stolen.

They subsequently filed a lawsuit.

EXCLUSIVE: Atlanta Rap Legend Raheem The Dream Accuses Three 6 Mafia and Sony Of Stealing His Music and His Sound

(AllHipHop News) Pioneering Atlanta hip-hop artist Raheem the Dream is suing Sony Music Entertainment, for allegedly using his music on Three 6 Mafia’s 2003 album, Da Unbreakables.

Three 6 has a song titled “You Scared, Pt. 2,” yet they never received permission from Raheem the Dream, who claims Sony allowed the group to copy the hook from the original song.

To make matters worse, Raheem notes that Three 6 used the chant no less than 24 times in their version of the song.

Raheem also claims “You Scared, Pt.2,” invokes sounds similar to his own, “in order to invoke his musical sound and style and to create the impression of and connection to Raheem’s protected work,” the lawsuit reads.

Raheem notes that many of his works have been legally sampled by artists such as Fergie, Migos, and Rico Love, and he makes a substantial portion of his income from the sale, distribution and licensing of his music.

Raheem claims Sony is illegally distributing the song on Da Unbreakables album, through digital retailers like Amazon.com, Spotify and iTunes.

Raheem the Dream is seeking the maximum amount of statutory damages allowed, and any additional profits from Sony’s alleged infringement.

Faith Evans and Faith Hill Planning To Collaborate After CNN Screw Up

(AllHipHop News) Faith Evans has proposed hitting the studio with fellow singer Faith Hill after a CNN news report suggested the country icon was releasing an album of duets with late rapper Notorious B.I.G.

R&B star Evans recently revealed she will release The King & I, a collaborative project celebrating the legacy of her late husband, in May, just two days before what would have been his 45th birthday.

However, a representative for CNN mixed up their Faiths as they posted about the news on Twitter, wrongly stating: “Faith Hill is releasing an album of duets with The Notorious B.I.G, 20 years after his murder,” despite accompanying the tweet with a picture of Evans.

CNN officials promptly removed the post, but not before fans could poke fun at the error.

Fun-loving Hill was also quick to respond, reposting the CNN tweet and commenting, “This sounds awesome!”

Joining in the fun, Evans replied by asking, “Up for a bonus duet, Ms. Hill?” and then sharing a fan’s mocked-up image of Biggie and Hill, adding, “Shout out to faithhill for holding it down!”

Drake Says “F-ck Donald Trump”!

(AllHipHop Rumors) unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that Donald Trump has to be the most hated President EVER!

He certainly isn’t popular or favorable in Hip Hop either, with that said. Well word on the street is that Drake allegedly turned down $750k to perform at a Floyd Mayweather event during Donald Trump’s inaugural weekend.

It looks like Drizzy is a smart man because he allegedly shot down the idea and offer seeing how so many celebrities were catching flack for doing anything related to Donald Trump.

Let’s not forget that Mayweather also expressed his support for Donald Trump, and he is one of the few celebrities that actually attended Trump’s inauguration. Heavy sigh. Cooning is at an all-time high.

Anyway…. while we don’t know how true Drake shooting down the offer is, we do know that he doesn’t f-ck with Donald Trump AT ALL!

At one of the 6 God’s recent concerts, he let it be known that he refuses to give Donald Trump that much acknowledgement or that much power to disrupt the world.

“For some reason in my room, they got the TV set to CNN. Everyday I wake up, I see all of this bulls-t going on in the world. People trying to tear us apart. People trying to make us turn against each other. So tonight, my proudest moment isn’t selling tickets or having people sing my songs. My proudest moment….if you take a look around this room, you’ll see people from all races, and all places. And all we did is come inside this building to show love, celebrate more life, and more music. And I just want you to understand that if you ever thought for a second any one man is gonna tear this world apart, you’re out of your mind. It’s on us to keep this sh-t together. F-ck that man,” said Drake.

It’s really f-ck Donald Trump yo! How did we get here?! How did he make it this far? Help us all!

Hurricane Chris Sends Some Serious Shots At Kodak Black Over Lil Wayne!

(AllHipHop Rumors) I honestly wonder what in the world has Hurricane Chris been up to? He definitely always has time to lend his unsolicited opinion, or to weigh in on something.

Anyway Kodak Black must’ve forgot how deep the fan and familial love for Lil Wayne was when he dissed him and claimed that he was the best rapper alive over Wayne.

Hurricane Chris certainly had time over the weekend to let Kodak and everyone else know that he will ride for Weezy!

“Check this out. I’ma say this, and I’m say this one time. I go by the name of Hurricane Chris, and if you f-ck with any of my people, you gotta deal with me. With that being said, Wayne, Weezy, Tunechi, whatever you want to call him. You wanna f-ck with him, you wanna f-ck with me. That’s how I’m coming. 5150. You play with my people, and I’ma break your jaw. It’s going down like that, and you know who I’m talking to… and I’m righteous with them hands, talking bout that hand game, we’ll stand toe-to-toe just like you talking about doing,” said Hurricane Chris.

Chris says Wayne is somewhere counting $100 million while trying to get back the $50 million Birdman owes him. Chris also says Lil Wayne has bigger problems than worrying about fighting Wayne, however he has nothing but time on his hands to “chastise” Kodak Black.

Idk man, is it just me, or does Hurricane Chris look like, he too, is on dem drugs. I sho’ hope Wayne rides for Chris the way Chris rides for Lil Wayne because Chris is looking like he needs that check right now. I could be wrong though. Lol. Do you think Kodak will respond? Do you think Hurricane Chris is even still in communication with Wayne?

Ahhhhh let’s remember the better days of Chris’ career. LOL.

Kanye West Deletes All Twitter References Mentioning President Donald Trump

(AllHipHop News) The “bromance” between rapper Kanye West and President Donald Trump is apparently over.

Earlier today (February 6), Kanye deleted all references to Donald Trump from his Twitter account.

In December of 2016, Kanye West met with Donald Trump for about 15 minutes at Trump Tower.

After criticism and backlash, Kanye took to his Twitter account to explain the meeting.

“I feel it’s important to have a direct line of communication with our future president if we truly want to change,” the rapper tweeted..

A source told TMZ.com, that Kanye is unhappy with Donald Trump’s first few weeks in office.

Apparently, Kanye is unhappy with Trump’s Muslim ban, amongst other things.

Kanye also reportedly turned down a request to perform at Donald Trump’s Presidential Inaugural Ball last month.
