Release Date Announced For The 2Pac Biopic ‘All Eyez On Me’ (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) The story of Hip Hop icon Tupac Shakur will be hitting the big screen next summer.

The long awaited All Eyez On Me biopic now has a release date.

AEOM producer L.T. Hutton revealed the Benny Boom-directed film will arrive on 2Pac’s birthday  – June 16, 2017.

“What I’ve explained to everybody is that this won’t be a long music video. We cut a lot of that type of stuff,” Hutton told AllHipHop.com in 2014.

He added, “We know the famous Tupac. We know all that. We’re going to give you a splash of that too, but we’re spending our chips on that drama of Who is this guy? Where did he come from? Everything else is out there. You can find that, but what you can’t find is what made this guy who he is – that earlier part, 16, 17 years old.”

The movie stars Demetrius Shipp Jr. as Pac, Danai Gurira as Afeni Shakur, Kat Graham as Jada Pinkett, Jamal Woolard as The Notorious B.I.G, Dominic L. Santana as Suge Knight, and Erica Pinkett as Ayanna Jackson.

Earlier this year, Pinkett also spoke to AllHipHop.com about the highly anticipated motion picture.

“I know L.T. Hutton, Benny Boom, and Afeni Shakur were not going to let 2Pac’s legacy go down the drain by not telling the most genuine story,” said Pinkett. “I know this movie will be an amazing story and film. There’s so much passion behind every single person that was part of this project. I have no doubt that this will be anything less than epic and a classic.”

Mos Def Allowed To Leave South Africa After Apologizing For Breaking Immigration Laws

(AllHipHop News) Yasiin “Mos Def” Bey will be allowed to exit South Africa.

In January, the American-born emcee/actor was arrested in the country for allegedly attempting to use a “fraudulent passport” at Cape Town International Airport in January.

“[He] has unreservedly apologized to the Government of South Africa,” stated the South African Home Affairs Department. “The department is satisfied with the apology [and] will withdraw the charges against him.”

Bey claimed he possessed a “world passport” issued by the non-profit organization known as the World Service Authority.

The WSA also issues “world citizen” documents like birth certificates, identity cards, and marriage certificates.

Even the WSA does not guarantee a country – especially Western nations such as Canada, France, Germany, Switzerland, Great Britain, and the United States – will accept a world passport.

Applicants must sign a statement saying they understand the world passport’s limitations.

WSA founder Garry Davis was arrested numerous times for using a world passport.

Bey has lived in Cape Town since 2013, but he will not be allowed to re-enter the country.

South Africa’s Ministry of Home Affairs spokesperson Mayihlome Tshwete replied to comments about Mos Def on Twitter.

“[Yasiin Bey] is undesirable in SA,” wrote Tshwete in one tweet.

Common and Patti Labelle Team Up To Raise Awareness About AIDS; Will Honor Harry Belafonte

(AllHipHop News) Rap star Common will team with Patti Labelle to host a free concert hosted by Rosie Perez in Los Angeles, to bring attention to World Aids Day.

The rapper and the legendary singer are two of several artists who will host “Keep The Promise” concerts in Los Angeles, Cambodia and Mexico City with the AIDS Health Foundation (AHF).

Common and Patti will hit the stage in Los Angeles, where veteran actor/activist Harry Belafonte will be honored with AHF’s lifetime acheivement award for his charitable and advocacy work around the world.

“Our hope is that our upcoming World AIDS Day Keep the Promise concert and march serve as a potent reminder that the fight against HIV/AIDS is not yet won and that these events serve as a clarion call to action,” said AHF’s President Michael Weinstein.

“The irony is that we are the victims of our own success: As the AIDS situation improves, with better treatments and more people being able to access them, the urgency of winning the war against AIDS here in the U.S. and around the globe has diminished,” Weinstein said.

The Keep the Promise concert in Los Angeles with Common and Patti Labelle will take place November 30 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

Kanye West Hospitalized After Cancelling Tour

(AllHipHop News) Kanye West has been hospitalized after cancelling his Saint Pablo tour.

The outspoken rapper was reportedly taken to UCLA Medical Center on Monday for exhaustion, multiple reports say. The matter manifested about 1:20 pm PST.

The rapper was listed as “medically stable” from a report from USA Today, but “was taken to an area hospital for further assessment.”

This new development evolves after West, 39, stated he “would’ve voted for Donald Trump” at a tour date in Inglewood, Calif. The result was a firestorm of backlash and controversy.

After that, the rapper/singer dissed Beyonce and Jay Z, demanding that his one-time rap partner call him, but not kill him. “Call me, brah, you still ain’t call me. Jay Z, I know you got killas, please don’t send them at my head. Just call me. Talk to me like a man,” he said from a ill-received Sunday date. Ticketmaster refunded tickets for that concert that was largely dominated by the rant.

Kanye West cancelled the remaining 21 tour dates on Monday.

Sharon Jones “Blamed Donald Trump For Election Night Stroke”

(AllHipHop News) Late soul star Sharon Jones suffered a stroke while watching Donald Trump’s U.S. presidential victory, according to her bandmate.

The leader of the Dap-Kings passed away aged 60 last Friday (November 18) after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

Dap-Kings member Gabriel Roth, also known as Bosco Mann, said that the singer’s health worsened irrevocably after she suffered a stroke while watching the U.S. presidential election earlier this month.

And Gabriel added that Sharon blamed the stress of watching controversial billionaire Donald Trump emerge as America’s 45th president for her stroke.

“Well, she’d been fighting cancer for a few years now, and there’s been all kinds of stuff coming at her,” he said. “But the thing that actually got her in the last couple of weeks was, she had a stroke watching the election results. After that first stroke she couldn’t move her leg, but she could still talk.

“I flew out and met her up in the hospital in Cooperstown, and I saw her and she told the people that were there that Trump gave her the stroke. She was blaming Trump for the whole thing.”

On November 9, the day after the vote, Sharon suffered another stroke which left her unable to speak.
However Gabriel revealed that during her final days she was able to hum along to songs with her bandmates, all of whom visited her before she passed away.

“We all just kept playing and singing with her, and little by little over the next couple of days she actually started moving her mouth and started singing lyrics,” he said. “She just wanted to sing these gospel songs. Every time we’d stop, she’d just keep singing ‘Amazing Grace’, ‘Go Tell It On the Mountain’ and ‘This Little Light of Mine’. We just stayed with her and sang with her and played music with her.”

In a moving tribute to the frontwoman, the bass guitarist added, “I mean, she was the strongest person any of us had ever known, and she just kept singing. She didn’t want to stop singing.”

Kanye West Discusses How He Believes Being Black Will Be “Completely Different” In 10 Years

(AllHipHop News) Kanye West sparked a lot of conversation when he ranted about how black people need to stop being distracted by racial discrimination.

The “Famous” rapper acknowledged racism still exists in America, but the Chicago native made it clear he thinks the issue should not be at the forefront for African-Americans.

Kanye once again addressed the topic of race in an interview with Surface magazine.

“Skin color. I’m not saying ‘currently,’ as if I’m going to change. I’m saying currently because – I’m actually not that good at words; it’s better when a beat is on,” said West. “What I mean by currently is that 10 years from now to be black is going to be a completely different thing, because of what we’re doing now.”

The Life Of Pablo album creator went on to state he believes that outcome will be achieved through interracial dating, culture, and business.

“There was a moment in rap, through the ’80s, ’90s, and 2000s, when people said, ‘Hey, I’m Jewish, own a record label, and I need a black guy,'” conveyed Ye. “Because of what we’ve done at Donda, collectively, 20 years from now, people are gonna go, ‘We need a black guy to creative direct something.’ There have been very few directors, period, who are black.”

The Q&A included Kanye discussing more about his creative content company Donda as well as wordless communication, the definition of art, and companies versus brands.

Thanksgiving came early for rapper Desiigner last week, when he handed a wad of cash to a disabled fan at the opening of the Moncler store in New York City. The “Panda” hitmaker took time to chat with the wheelchair-bound homeless person outside the launch party, and handed him an early Christmas gift. “Desiigner reached in his Louis Vuitton duffel bag and gave him a wad of cash,” an eyewitness tells the New York Post. “There were definitely big bills in there.” And the rap star was happy to part with more cash inside the store, spending a fortune on holiday gifts. The launch party, which featured a short film by Spike Lee, was also attended by sports stars Sean Avery and Victor Cruz and model Joan Smalls.

Drake

Drake has poked fun at his cool image by singing along to Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” in a new Apple Music ad. In the new commercial, which debuted during the American Music Awards telecast on Sunday night (November 20), the rapper makes sure he’s all alone in the gym before selecting pal Taylor’s song on his iPhone, and then attempting to hit the high notes as he works out, posing and dancing in a mirror. The ad ends with Drake comically belting out the track word for word until he struggles to press a heavy barbell and topples off the bench he’s lying on.
