Tyre Hakim Gets A Co-Sign From Jay Electronica

Jay Electronica celebrated MLK day with a private show at the Harold Washington Cultural Center.

After a dope performance, Jay brought new artist from Chicago, Tyre Hakim on stage to spit a few bars.

Impressed by the young spitta, they hung out at Cheese Cake Factory after the show on Mag Mile to chop it up and advise Tyre on his upcoming release, Who Am I.

While sharing a few gems Jay learns he was a fan of Tyre’s dad, rapper Hashim Hakim.

Here’s a little Chicago Hip-Hop history.

Hashim Hakim is the Muslim brother that freestyled with Jay Z and DMX on the Backstage DVD while tour.

Jay surprised Tyre by kicking few bars his dad spit back then.

The Lox Go In On New Generation Of Rappers And Offer Up Some Stern Advice

(AllHipHop News) The debate over a new crop of rappers will only intensify, thanks to some statements recently made by legendary Hip Hop group The Lox.

The trio appeared on a recent episode of DJ Whoo Kid’s “Whoolywood Shuffle,” on Sirius Satellite Radio.

Even though the guys touched on a number of subjects, including their past beefs, and what it takes to be a new artist, it was their take on the new generation of Hip Hop artists that was the highlight of the interview.

Towards the end of the 23 minute sit down, Sheek Louch, Styles P. and Jadakiss blasted a certain type of Hip Hop, that hasbasically become to be known as “mumble rap.”

“The new era don’t respect whatever’s before them because it’s so instant, like grits, now,” Jadakiss snapped. “You can be dumb hot for the next nine months and you can disappear after that. So they just, catch a wave of some money, and some heat, and some endorsements, and one of them 720 deals

The Lox, who started their careers on Sean “Diddy” Combs’ Bad Boy Entertainment, echoed the label’s founder and his sentiment over the state of Hip Hop, which led him to claim he was taking a break from his social media accounts last week.

Jadakiss blamed technology for helping to dumb down a new generation of rappers, and their connection to the history of the culture.

“Before we got on we studied. Not even studied, just coming from school everyday turning on Video Music Box, just soaking all that kind of s##t up. That played the part of our career,” Jadakiss said. “Now, you don’t have to turn on s##t. You can look on your screen at whatever you want and do whatever the f##k you want.”

Rappers like Young Dolph, Lil Yachty, and Lil Uzi Vert have clashed with a number of veterans, including Pete Rock, Lil Wayne, and even Bronx rap legend, Kool Keith.

The guys named the number of rappers they liked, including Young M.A., J. Cole and Kendrick and Dave East.

And it was not total condemnation for the younger generation.

“Man. The one thing I got to say, is young, black m############ getting money and aint goin to jail,” said Styles P. “Respect the culture and learn your history motherf%#ker.”

The news comes on the heels of the Lox’s critically acclaimed album Filthy America … It’s Beautiful.

The album is their first together in 16 years, and features production by Pete Rock and DJ Premiere, who was also roped into the debate when Lil Uzi Vert refused to rap over a Gang Starr track during an appearance on Hot 97.

Bobby Shmurda Associate Sentenced to 117 To 130 Years

(AllHipHop News) Bobby Shmurda associate Santino Boderick has been sentenced to 117 to 130 years in prison.

Boderick was convicted back in 2016 for a variety of infractions that included attempted murder in the second degree, attempted assault in the first degree, conspiracy to commit murder, criminal use of a firearm in the first degree, and more.

Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget G. Brennan said: “Santino Boderick was convicted of multiple incidents involving shocking violence, and which reflected utter disregard for human life. The sentence imposed on him today will protect the community, and appropriately punish behavior that terrorized countless innocent people.”

Boderick’s DNA was found on three guns used in crimes, police say.

Boderick is not the first of the GS9 crew to serve time. Bobby Shmurda is currently in prison for seven years on conspiracy charges. Another member, Rashid “Rasha” Derissant, was sentenced in May 2016 and now serves 98 years to life in prison. Alex “A-Rod” Crandon, another GS9, was slapped with a 53-year prison sentence, over the murder of a 19-year-old rival.

Why This Fight Between Souljah Boy & Chris Brown is a Bad Example of How to Solve Conflict

This op-ed piece was originally published on brotherjesseblog.com.

By If you follow Hip-Hop and frequent any of the major popular social media outlets, you have more than likely heard about the pending beef between Souljah Boy and Chris Brown. Both artists have been going at each other for some weeks now. Each have called each other names, each have threatened each other while MILLIONS watch. The most recent development in this beef included Floyd Mayweather and 50 Cent, who desire to help promote this fight! Some are hailing this as the proper way to “settle a beef!” I respectfully disagree.  Encouraging them to fight only adds to the culture of violence that is already STEALING the lives of many young Black boys/girls and CUTTING holes in the hearts of those who loved these young people.

Offering fighting as a way to handle a beef that’s really over BS is not a good choice! I have heard people say, “This is the way we can reduce gun violence in the inner city,” or “It’s better than going pull a pistol!” I say no to both! This only encourages more people to beef over BS in a violent way! Proof of this is the number of similar challenges that artists (i.e. 22 Savage and Kodak Black are some of the few who have issued similar challenges) have issued to other artists they have issues with since the Chris Brown & Souljah Boy challenge. Many know that fist fights in this day and time is the gateway to gunplay! Do we really think that Chris Brown or Souljah Boy would be able to take an “L” in the boxing ring before MILLIONS of people, plus the continued viewing on social media and just let by-gones be by-gones?  In the words of Ed Lover, “C’mon son!”

Why do we believe that physical violence is the BEST option for resolving a conflict? Have we ever thought about reaching out to someone to have a talk with them or reaching out to a third party to help us do so? The carnage that we are witnessing in our communities is evidence that we haven’t! We continue to kill and maim one another over BS!

The Black community needs a culture change when it comes to knowing how to properly resolve conflict. One of the quickest ways that this change in culture can begin is if the cultural leaders (entertainers) begin to make, “Talking It Out, Before Sparking It Out,” cool! The same way they have made Nerd glasses, Skinny Jeans, Using the N-word and other self-destructive practices cool! I know it can be done. I am a New Orleans native. During my youth when someone called you a ‘stunter or stunna” it meant that you were fake like a stuntman in a movie. However, with the power of Hip-Hop now years later to be called a “stunna” is a badge of honor. It means, “a person who drives around town in nice cars, on dubz, showing of their ice and bling,” according to the Urban dictionary.

Some will read this article and say, “Having people try to talk out beefs will not work!” I can understand the doubt, but I do not submit to it. You doubt because we do not see enough examples of people attempting to talk out their issues. At one time people doubted the possibility of cellphones, but look at them now! People doubted Trump would be president, he is.

If more of us begin to personally practice and promote conflict resolution we could add to the culture change. The question we must personally answer is, “Do we want to?”

Will Soulja Boy Be Promoting His Fight Against Chris Brown Alone?

(AllHipHop Rumors) Uh oh! It looks like Soulja Boy is tired of waiting on these folks. By the time he and Chris Brown do actually fight, I’m sure no one will care anymore.

We’ve heard all kinds of things about this fight from it allegedly taking place in Los Angeles or Las Vegas, maybe even Dubai, to Floyd Mayweather and 50 Cent running it vs. The Game’s manager Wack 100 and the Piru Bloods running it.

Although it’s only been a few weeks since Soulja Boy and Chris Brown’s boxing match was confirmed, it feels like forever.

Fans aren’t the only ones tired of waiting as Soulja Boy is also fed up. SB took to Twitter yesterday to call out everyone involved in causing the fight to drag on.

“These n-ggaz taking too long. F-ck this sh-t, you need tickets, hit me, I’m running the show. Y’all know what I’m throwing the fight,” tweeted the rapper.

Soulja Boy is one of the Kings of “Tweet and delete” so he clearly deleted other tweets.

In a deleted tweet, he revealed that the fight would allegedly take place in March, and that he would be the one renting the venue and selling the tickets.

“This will be a Soulja Boy promotion. Hit me for tickets, they on sale now,” tweeted Soulja.

Remember Floyd Mayweather was originally promoting the fight with his Mayweather Promotions, and he was the one training Soulja Boy for the fight. SB’s rant has me wondering what this says about the state of their current relationship.

SB also let it be known that he’d be talking more about the fight on Jimmy Kimmel, but as far as we know, he’s not even a scheduled guest anytime soon.

It’s so funny to me that Chris Brown will beat that azz. Put down the lean Soulja!

Is Jim Jones Hinting At A Deal With Roc Nation?

(AllHipHop Rumors) It looks like Jim Jones is hinting at new possible union between he and Jay Z.

Jim Jones let his fans know that he took a little field trip over to the Roc Nation offices. Jimmy posted a video to his Instagram that he knew would surely get people talking.

“If I told you I was in the Roc Nation office, how would you feel about that? You’d think I was lying? That’s clear enough for you? Talk to me, let me know your sentiments, ya heard?”

Hov and Jones have had an up and down relationship since back in the day when The Diplomats were signed to Jay’s label, Roc-A-Fella. When Jay and Dame Dash split, tensions flared, and it left many artists on the roster divided.

Remember when Jay took that shot at a few people, Jimmy included?

“I ain’t talking about gossip. I ain’t talking about Game. I ain’t talking about Jimmy. I ain’t talking about Dame. Let’s talk about facts. Dame made millions, even Jaz made some scraps. He could’ve made more but he ain’t sign his contract.”

Jay even went at Jim on “Brooklyn High” when he rapped,

“Your bank versus mine. If you’re ballin’, n-gga what I’m doing can’t be defined. The Joneses can’t keep up.”

Yall know how “sensitive” Jim Jones can get, so he later asked,

“Question if someone says in the song I’m not talkin bout Jimmy is that not talking bout Jimmy lol we r back in business people.”

So I wonder was this just a meeting for a true new start of reconciliation? Is there a deal on the table for Jimmy? Should Jim Jones sign to Roc Nation? Are you interested in hearing new music from Jones?
