(AllHipHop News) Controversial New York radio host Taxstone had his day in court today (January 17), over his alleged involvement in a deadly shooting at Irving Plaza last May involving rapper Troy Ave.
Today in court, authorities officially charged him with gun violations, for his role in the fight.
Police managed to track the 9mm Kel-Tec handgun used in the shooting to a man in Florida.
Investigators were then able to connect the gun to man who said he sold gun the to an associate of Taxstone.
Troy Ave’s conflict with Taxstone started as of words on the internet, but quickly escalated into physical violence.
The two men finally clashed backstage in a green room at Irving Plaza on May 25th, during a night in which T.I. was supposed to give a headline performance.
Taxstone, born Daryl Campbell, has officially been charged with being a felon in possession of a weapon and buying an illegal gun.
Taxstone’ bail was set at $500,000 and although his movements are restricted, he will be allowed to record his “Tax Season” podcast from his house.
Tax’s lawyer Kenneth Montgomery said he believes his client will make bail in about a week.
“The government appealed it and we argue the appeal tomorrow (January 18),” Taxstone’s lawyer Kenneth Montgomery told AllHipHop.com. “Assuming the new judge agrees with the bail package he will be out soon.”
(AllHipHop Rumors) It looks like Drake can still get these bars from Murda Mook!
I rock with the 6 God to an extent, but I’d still put my money on Mook!
Murda Mook refuses to let y’all forget that he was supposed to battle it out with Drizzy Drake.
Remember when Drake boldly challenged the battle rap veteran Murda Mook.
Mook was certainly ready and dissed Drake a few times, including a diss at the 2014 BET Awards, in hopes of pulling Drake into the rap battle ring frfr.
The hype died down and Drake later spent his time going against Meek Mill.
Mook and Drake allegedly almost faced off at a battle in 2015, but the lyrical bout never happened.
Drizzy also tried to tell Mook that he had to beat Tsu Surf before a “Drake vs Mook” battle would even take place.
Wellll Drake recently let it be known that he still has that “free smoke” for whoever wants it.
Murda Mook jumped in the comments letting fans know it’s not really for “WHOEVER”. LOL.
Listen f’ Soulja Boy and Chris Brown, I’d still love to see Mook eat Drake alive. LOL.
Trina is working on a new album and she just dropped her new hit single “Damn” with Tory Lanez.
The Baddest Chick is currently doing press to support her upcoming single and she stopped by Hot 97 in New York to talk about her new projects, her relationship with Tory and the insurance policies on what could be her most valuable “ass”et.
(AllHipHop News) Did rapper Beanie Sigel quit Hip-Hop? According to singer/Washington D.C. radio personality Lil’ Mo, the Broad Street Bully has hung up his microphone.
“Everybody thinks I’m playing and a lot of people are hurt behind it,” Lil Mo said Beanie Sigel told her husband. [And] he’s like he doesn’t mean to hurt anybody but at the end of the day he said…Maybe it’s a God thing. Maybe it’s a inner thing, but, yeah. I don’t know.”
The news comes on the heels of Beanie’s recent resurgence.
“I thought after he performed with Jay when they had the big Tidal concert, it was sort of like be crazy after that, [but] he just doesn’t feel it anymore,” Lil Mo said.
Beanie’s health could also be a reason he’s retiring.
The rapper has lost his spleen and a lung, after he was shot in a drive-by shooting in January of 2015.
“A lot of people are speculating maybe because he feels that he doesn’t have the same drive as he does for as like he did back in those Roca-fella days,” Lil Mo hypothesized.
It also looks like Beanie has deleted all the posts from his Instagram and Twitter accounts.
(AllHipHop Rumors) Uh oh! Y’all’s President-elect still can’t find anyone to perform at this inauguration. LOL!
Not a single person wants to perform, not even the Hair Weave Killer Tity Boi himself.
2 Chainz recently took to Instagram to express sadness in the fact that he was never invited to the White House during the Obama administration. Don’t worry Tity, I’m sure your invitation got lost in the mail along with mine.
2 Chainz went on to reveal that he had allegedly been invited by Trump’s team to perform at Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony.
I’m not sure if Chainz is trolling or not because he seems like such an odd and random artist for Trump’s camp to ask.
2 Chainz revealed that he turned down the invitation because he felt like they were only inviting him because they couldn’t find anyone else.
“I know they only doing this because they can’t get nobody else. I had to say ‘nah,’ no matter how much money it was. I probably won’t be going to the White House no time soon,” he explained.
Apparently 3 Doors Down, Jackie Evancho, and Toby Keith are scheduled to perform. Jennifer Holliday withdrew her commitment citing a lapse in judgment.
If Tity Boi was in fact invited, he certainly did the right thing by turning down the invitation. It would’ve been a lituation had he gotten invited to perform before the Obama’s headed out though.
What songs would 2 Chainz have performed lol? Okay never mind.
“I’m going to go and share something with y’all. I ain’t drinking no motherf##king more. I ain’t. I ain’t drinking no motherf##king more. I’m getting too motherf##king young for this s###, oh man,” Plies said. “It’s all of my motherf##king friend who just sit there and just motherf##king let me get this motherf##king drunk. Y’all ain’t s##t. Ain’t none of y’all s##t, because y’all know when I get that motherf##king look in me…I ain’t drinking no motherf##king more.”
(AllHipHop News) The highly-anticipated biopic centering around the life of slain rapper Tupac Shakur finally has a release date.
Morgan Creek Productions has announced “All Eyez on Me” will land in movie theaters on Pac’s birthday via Lions Gate according toThe Hollywood Reporter.
The movie recounts the life of Tupac Shakur, who was born on June 16, 1971, and killed in September of 1996, after he was shot while riding along side Death Row Records founder Marion “Suge” Knight, on the Las Vegas strip.
The cast members include Demetrius Shipp Jr., who plays Tupac, while Danai Gurira plays Afeni Shakur. Kat Graham stars as Jada Pinkett, Jamal “Gravy” Woolard stars as Biggie Smalls and Dominic L. Santana plays the role of Marion “Suge” Knight.
West Coast veteran L. T. Hutton handled the production of the movie with Morgan Creek Productions, while Benny Boom was hired to direct “All Eyez on Me.”
“I actually spent a ton of time with Pac once he came to Death Row,” L.T. Hutton told AllHipHop.com. “I followed his career and life even before he came to Death Row. Him and Snoop were close, and I’m originally from the Dogg Pound so when he came to Death Row I got to work with him. We had a lot of stuff stacked in the vault. We rocked out real tough.
Even though Pac’ mom Afeni Shakur died in May of 2016 and will have the chance to the final film, L.T. Hutton said “All Eyez On Me” had her blessings, since she was intimately involved in the production of the movie.
“She has approval of a lot of things, and she wants the best portrayal of her son possible,” L.T. Hutton said. “She doesn’t have a problem with any of the truth. She just wants to make sure that everything was told correctly.”
The legendary singer was slammed by various critics and media outlets when she stopped performing in the middle of her set on live television.
However, Carey’s ex-husband Nick Cannon came to her defense during a sit down with Ellen DeGeneres.
“You know me. I’m a conspiracy theorist. I think the government did that,” Cannon told the daytime talk show host. “They set her up. That was a distraction.”
He continued, “Anyone who knows about performing and having inner-ears, things like that can go wrong on live television. I screw up on America’s Got Talent all the time. So when there’s people in your ear saying things and stuff, I think she got a little flustered.”
Cannon was likely joking about the government conspiracy angle to Carey’s poor showing on NYE.
However, the television personality has been steadfast about his controversial beliefs on the Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
Cannon referred to the actions of the reproductive health services organization as “genocide.”
“Same issue I have with Planned Parenthood I have with corps like McDonalds, Hennessy, Privatised [sic] Prisons, public education etc. #Eugenics,” Cannon tweeted in November.
(AllHipHop Rumors) No one can get along in these Hip Hop streets lately.
Even a little friendly competition seems to be going left these days.
Lil Uzi Vert recently previewed a few of his new songs via Instagram. Instead of leaving praise, Lil Yachty jokingly critiqued the track along with others in the comment section.
“Sound hard but don’t sound harder than that Yachty,” said the Atlanta rapper.
Lil Uzi Vert quickly caught wind of Yachty’s comments and he replied saying,
“Put out your album so I can destroy that sh-t with mine. And don’t rap threw your nose on this one.”
Little Sail Boat accepted the challenge and replied saying,
“Sounds like a challenge.”
Which rapper are you rocking with more these days? As you know Lil Uzi Vert is currently working on his new mixtape ‘Luv Is Rage 2’, and Yachty is working on his debut album, ‘Teenage Emotions’.
Yachty has recently been very vocal about how he feels about people accusing him of killing Hip Hop. He’s expressed that he believes there is enough room for everyone and every sound, and he’s focused on his loyal fan base instead of winning people over.
Whose new music do you think will be better? Who’s the better artist? Or with today’s Hip Hop, who’s worse? LOL!
(AllHipHop News) On the final days of 2016, Top Dawg Entertainment Co-President Terrence “Punch” Henderson gave an update on the pending album from one of the label’s stars.
In December, Punch tweeted, “Jay Rock got in a dirt bike accident being a true project baby lol. I joke but it could’ve been bad. He’s great and his album is almost done.”
Rock is now also hinting a follow-up to 90059 could be close to arriving.
“WHO READY FOR SOME NEW JAY ROCK LET ME HEAR YALL!!!!!” posted the Watts representative on Instagram.
The caption for the message read, “I can’t even _____ without people asking I jus wanna know who really ready????”
Rock’s 90059 was released in 2015.
The project featured the tracks “Vice City” and “Money Trees Deuce.”
(AllHipHop News) The feud between Soulja Boy and Chris Brown continues to rage on with a new video by Chris’ trainer, Mike Tyson.
Mike dropped the full song “If You Show Up” which adds some visuals to the previously released song dissing Chris’ rival Soulja, even though Mike’s not featured in the video.
Yesterday, Soulja boy released his own diss track “Hit ‘Em With The Draco” dissing 50 Cent and Chris Brown, whom he is slated to fight at an upcoming celebrity boxing match in Dubai this March.
Check out the videos for Mike Tyson’s “If You Show Up.”
(AllHipHop News) Atlanta rapper/actor Tip “T.I.” Harris is making it clear he will not be silent on politics during the age of Donald Trump.
After warning black celebrities like Kanye West, Ray Lewis, and Steve Harvey about attending meetings with the President-Elect, Tip also used his Instagram page to defend a Civil Rights Movement icon against Trump’s recent tweets.
Congressman John Lewis launched a nationwide discussion when the onetime chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee questioned the legitimacy of Trump’s election because of the Russian hacks.
Lewis also announced he would not be attending the Presidential Inauguration on Friday.
Trump fired back by referring to Lewis’ Atlanta-area congressional district as “falling apart” and claiming the Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient was “all talk, talk, talk – no action or result.”
Overnight, T.I. posted a message on IG in response to a video of Atlanta mayor Kasim Reed showing support for Rep. Lewis and the city.
He wrote:
Well Kasim… Maybe it’s our predominantly black Govt. Or our thriving community of self sufficient Black athletes, rappers, producers, actors, DJ’s, directors, celebrities, executives, real estate developers & entrepreneurs who’ve worked their way to Multi-Millionaire-Legendary status in spite of the narrow-minded oppressive thoughts of our neighbors only 45mins-1hr away in any given direction. Maybe it’s because we’ve created our own platforms & vehicles that empowered US & allowed US to bypass their approvals & validations. Or maybe he was confronted with an uncomfortable truth that put his back against the wall & he just blurted out (or tweeted out) the first piece of BS his thumbs could muster. Either way… Congressman John Lewis, I stand with you…. as YOU ALL should!!! #ThatWay #ThisOurCity
(AllHipHop News) Donald Trump has been having a hard time getting performers for his Inauguration ceremony, according to reports.
Numerous entertainers have either refused to participate, turned down requests, or backed out of an opportunity to take part in the event.
Some observers wondered if Kanye West would be at the celebration on Friday, following the music superstar’s high-profile meeting with Trump in December.
Tom Barrack, the chairperson of Trump’s Presidential Inaugural Committee, told CNN the President-Elect has not reached out to Kanye about appearing at the Inauguration.
“We haven’t asked him,” stated Barrack. “He considers himself a friend of the President-Elect, but it’s not the venue. The venue we have for entertainment is filled out, it’s perfect, it’s going to be typically and traditionally American, and Kanye is a great guy but we just haven’t asked him to perform. We move on with our agenda.”
So far, the list of confirmed Inauguration performers includes country singer Toby Keith, rock band 3 Doors Down, and America’s Got Talent singer Jackie Evancho.
Grammy and Tony Award winner Jennifer Holliday dropped out over the weekend, and she released an open letter apologizing to the LGBT community.
In addition, a Bruce Springsteen cover band pulled their performance out of respect for the real Springsteen who was a very vocal critic of Trump.
Barack Obama’s 2009 Inauguration featured appearances by Springsteen, Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige, John Legend, Queen Latifah, Sheryl Crowe, Garth Brooks, Usher, Stevie Wonder, and others.
A photo of Obama in the White House with several Hip Hop stars like DJ Khaled, J. Cole, Common, Rick Ross, Chance The Rapper, Talib Kweli, Pusha T, and more has circulated around the internet over the last few days.
(AllHipHop News) Daryl “Taxstone” Campbell was taken into custody on Monday in connection with the shooting which left Brooklyn rapper Roland “Troy Ave” Collins injured and his bodyguard Ronald “Banga” McPhatter dead.
According to the New York Times, Taxstone’s DNA was found on the gun used in the violent Irving Plaza encounter from last year.
The evidence was apparently discovered on the 9-millimeter Kel-Tec semi-automatic handgun’s trigger, hand grip, and magazine.
Taxstone was reportedly seen on video in the green room with Troy Ave and McPhatter prior to the gunfire breaking out.
DNA from Troy Ave was also detected on the firearm.
The “Bang Bang” rhymer is on video firing shots inside the venue, but Troy insists he was acting in self-defense.
Taxstone had been involved in a feud with Troy Ave, and the New York Police Department believes Taxstone publicly threatened Troy before the shooting.
“Man, I don’t know what happened with that situation,” said Taxstone last June about the Irving Plaza incident.
The popular Tax Season podcast host and social media personality was arrested on federal weapons possession charges.
(AllHipHop News) 2017 may go down as the year Nick Grant elevated himself to the next tier in the Hip Hop hierarchy.
Grant made waves online last year with his 88 mixtape which featured appearances by Killer Mike, Big K.R.I.T., and Young Dro.
The South Carolina-bred, Atlanta-based rhymer started off the new year with his latest project.
Return Of The Cool was released last week, and Grant helped promote the collection by making his network television debut on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.
N.G. performed a medley of “Love” And “Get Up” with southern group Watch The Duck.
With the support of Grand Hustle co-founder Jason Geter and his Culture Republic brand, Grant is a very early contender for “rookie of the year.”
Hip Hop insiders are already lining up behind the rising entertainer.
Ludacris, DJ Khaled, and Charlamagne Tha God each posted the Return Of The Cool artwork to their respective Instagram pages.
Newcomers to the N.G. movement should not be surprised by what appears to be a meteoric rise, because Nick has been planning to add his name to the rap pantheon for years.
Back in 2015, the #ATLRiseUp alumni told AllHipHop.com about his ultimate legacy, “Twenty years in the game, being iconic, and having over five classic albums. I feel like the greatest rappers have at least five classic albums that you can play from top to bottom. It’s just about having a dope career and people respecting you. If you’re not going to be great, why bother?”
(AllHipHop News) It looks like T.I.’s open letters are not enough for the rapper to express his opinion about the state of America and the upcoming swearing-in of Donald Trump as the 45th President of the United States of America.
Now, people like Kanye West, Steve Harvey, Jim Brown and now Dr. Martin Luther King’s son MLK III, have drawn the wrath of the Atlanta rap star/turned activist for meeting with the future POTUS, who has made racist and offensive comments about almost everyone as he ran to get elected.
“Look, I’m going to tell all you celebrities; black, minority, all of you. Man, athlete’s, man. All of you. Look, let me tell you something. There’s a strategic plan that people are trying to make you a part of, okay? Do not accept any invitation to have any meeting,” T.I. said in a series of posts on Instagram earlier tonight (January 15).
“No matter how positive you think the outcome may be. Without understanding, man. People have a very Willie lynch, agenda, okay? You being there being seen with them, taking pictures and smiling and being positive. It may seem positive to you, but there’s a hidden agenda, man. You might not know it, but now you have been warned. Do not go in there unless you have a strategy or you’re with John Lewis or somebody who can represent us.”
T.I. then put a number of his celebrity friends on blast for taking meetings with Donald Trump and laid out what he believed was an overarching conspiracy by the President-Elect to win over the African-American community.
“What do they do? They get Kanye West to come in. ‘Well, he’s their representative. They listen to his music, they buy his shoes, they go see him in concert. Well, surely we could take a picture with him. He smiles and says he’s cool with it, they’ll fall right in line.’. Okay,” T.I. snapped.
“Also, you’ve got black women, you know, they were against it. ‘Well, who speaks to the black women? Steve Harvey. Let’s get him in here. He’ll take a picture. He’ll smile. He’ll say it’s cool. They’ll fall right in line. Who else? They love football. Let’s get Ray Lewis. Let’s get Jim Brown. They were the heroes. Surely, if they say they’re cool with it.’”
The meeting also came just days after Donald Trump put legendary civil rights activist Rep. John Lewis on blast during a Twitter fit, after Lewis labeled Trump an “illegitimate President.”
“Homeboy [Lewis] was one of the most prolific civil rights activists of our times, you’re going to get Martin Luther King’s son, on Martin Luther King Day, to come in there and meet with you? Man, you all have got to see this, man. Divide and conquer.
T.I. warned Kanye and the others to stay away from Donald Trump, referring to the infamous Willie Lynch letter, which was purportedly written by a former slave owner as a manifesto to control the slaves in early America
“Kanye, what the f### you doing, man? Steve [Harvey], man, you know way better than them, man. You know what I’m saying? Jim Brown? Really? Martin Luther King [III], man, it’s your God damned daddy birthday, bro. You going to go sit down with … Hey, man, divide and conquer, bro. You know what I mean? Willie Lynch. Read up on it. Don’t be a part of it. Be against it.”
(AllHipHop News) Lawyers representing Troy Ave and Taxstone are preparing for a court date tomorrow (January 17th), which could change the directions of both men’s’ lives.
The pair were involved in an altercation backstage at Irving Plaza on May 25th. During the fight, someone pulled a gun and open fired, leaving Troy Ave and three other people wounded.
The rapper’s bodyguard Ronald “Banga” McPhatter was shot and killed in the melee. Shocking footage from videotaped surveillance inside of Irving Plaza captured the shooting on tape, leading many to believe Troy Ave, born Ronald Collins, would be charged with murder.
Troy Ave is being represented by Scott Leemon, who has represented artists like 50 Cent, Tony Yayo, and most recently Freddie Gibbs.
Even though the police have “only” hit Taxstone with weapons possession violations so far, Scott Leemon said the impending charges only add credibility to Troy’s narrative – that he was a victim who defended his life and his friends.
Kenneth Montgomery remained tight light-lipped, until he knows the charges against his client.
“We are looking forward to tomorrow’s arraignment and seeing what the charges are,” Kenneth Montgomery told AllHipHop.com, referencing his client’s arraignment tomorrow.
Just in time for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, up and comer Robby Betts drops off his first single “Bow to the King”
The visual starts off with Robby Betts as a prince waking up on his birthday deciding where to go celebrate. Robby wakes up, spins a globe and decides on Los Angeles.
A Rolls Royce, rose pedal’s, a helicopter ride to Los Angeles, and beautiful woman make Bow To The King and interesting video to watch.
(AllHipHop News) Today (January 15) is Martin Luther King Jr. day and as expected, a number of influential politicians, celebrities and others hit the social media platform to share their thoughts on the late civil rights leader.
People like President Obama, Representative John Lewis, MC Hammer, Ciara, 2 Chainz, Young M.A., Rick Ross, Talib Kweli, and other notables posted tributes to Dr. King, who was born on this day in 1929.
Twitter itself celebrated by launching a #MLK emoji, which can be activated by using hashtags like #MLK, #IHaveADream, #MLKDay, #MartinLutherKingJr, and
#MartinLutherKing
But most interestingly, Twitter gathered 15 celebrities to each Tweet a line from the Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous “I Have A Dream” speech.
Artists like common, Alicia Keys, Shonda Rimes, Lee Daniels, Jennifer Lopez and Sean “Diddy” Combs were among the participants.
See below for the Tweets, which in order, read the
speech:
