Coachella as officially kicked off in Indio, California, and with new music and presidential introductions already making news, there’s so much stuff to talk about at this year’s popular music festival. Today is Day 2 of Coachella, and features a lineup of several rap artists including Ice Cube, ASAP Rocky, and Vince Staples. Twista Wants To Showcase His Paintings In A Gallery

(AllHipHop News) During an interview with the Chicago Sun-Times, Chicago rap legend Twista discussed his upbringing in the city and his plans for the future.

Twista explained how violence has impacted his family growing up in the Chicago. Over the course of his career, Twista has lost three bodyguards.

A car accident claimed the life of one and the other two were killed in street violence in the United States’ third largest city.

In order to cope and relax with his stressful lifestyle as a rapper, in addition to the senseless violence, Twista has taken to painting.

“I am a portrait artist. I may get back into it. Every once in a while, I still draw in my spare time,” Twista told the Chicago Sun-Times. “I’m getting ready to dive back into it like I should have. I also do figure drawing and anatomy. I think I would like to have a gallery.”

During the interview,Twista, 43, explained how he hopes to be a guiding light for the youth of Chicago, and Hip-Hop in general.

“I want to let people see, I want the kids to see, how rappers do business, how artists can turn what they do musically into money by doing other things,” Twista said.

Twista is currently on the East Coast run of his Living Legends tour.

Tonight (April 17) Twista will play Webster Hall in Manhattan, before moving on dates in New Jersey, Virginia, Missouri, Colorado, Illinois and Nebraska.

Lil B Raps Out Of A Traphouse In “Finesse Em”

Yesterday, Lil B released a very weird video for his track “Finesse Em.” While the Based God’s video features his “based” rhymes, it’s pretty weird. The video features Lil B rapping in what seems to be a traphouse. While the rapper sits in cluttered rooms  with a gun on the floor and empty kitchens, he casually does it rocking an Oakland A’s cap and and some slippers. Very weird video.

With his first project Drogas coming soon, the Chi-Town rapper has dropped an interview series to get his fans excited. Lupe’s first edition, titled “Conversations #1” features the rapper talking to members of Lifting Ourselves Through US (Also known as LOTUS). The discussion includes the importance of creating a unique message and images for younger listeners through Hip Hop.

Jaden Smith Premieres New Music With Lido During Coachella Set

According to Complex, Smith performed on a piano, rapping the words to the untitled song.

Skyzoo And C.L. Smooth Honor Record Store Day With Blue 7″ Vinyl Release

In support of national Record Store Day (April 16), Skyzoo and CL Smooth have teamed up for a one time release of their song “Perfect Timing.”

In promotion of the release, Sweden’s Max I Million and DJ Devastate chopped up a remix as Max handled the production and Devastate came through with a scratch hook, that replaced the original chorus from C.L. hook.

After the track was first released in ’08 the guys received numerous requests over the years for the song to be on vinyl.

As such, Coalmine Records will be releasing a rare 7-Inch blue vinyl for the track in honor of Record Store Day.

“Barbershop: The Next Cut” Gets 91% Approval Rating Opening Weekend

In what looks to be a landslide stamp of approval, “Barbershop: The Next Cut” is soaring in moviegoer and movie critics ratings as it is currently hitting the 91% “Fresh” marker on the ever popular Rotten Tomatoes online site.  Certainly, this must be giving Warner Bros. Pictures, MGM and New Line Cinema some ideas about whether to push for a “Barbershop” movie number four.

The other movie that is giving “Barbershop: The Next Cut, ” a run for it’s money on the vaunted ‘tomatometer’ is “The Jungle Book” from Disney, which also opened nationwide this Friday, April 15, 2016.  However, as “The Jungle Book” went out with considerably higher expectations than “Barbershop:The Next Cut,” as assumed ahead of time by those who professionally watch, live and die by movie numbers and movie performance, this critical thumbs up is just another prized feather in “Barbershop:The Next Cut” producer and star Ice Cube’s cinematic cap.

Recently there have been more than a few Hollywood forays into the telling of America’s relationship to the darker elements of it’s past via slavery.  Considering that many of these forays, while award winning, may have been less than on the mark when it came to getting it right for the likes of the descendants of those who suffered it most, it is indeed promising that “The Birth Of A Nation,” which won the 2016 Sundance Grand Jury Drama prize and the Sundance Audience Award for U.S Drama has the dramatic appearance of being something that could made of more durable and relatable stuff.

Olympian Spence and Former World Champion Algieri Set To Rumble in NYC

In what will be a ‘true’ litmus test of his talent, undefeated star and 2012 U.S. Olympian Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr. (19-0, 16KOs) will be the headliner tonight, April 16, 2016, in his toughest professional boxing battle yet against former world champion Chris Algieri (21-2, 8KOs) at The Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, scheduled to be televised live on NBC at 8:30 pm ET/ 5:30 pm ET.

When Spence was queried about his mental and physical preparedness for what should prove to be a pivotal fight for his continued success as a professional, there was no equivocating: “The Olympic stage prepares you for anything,” stated Spence, continuing on the subject of his fellow Olympic teammate Marcus “Sir” Browne (17-0, 13KOs) also being a part of the night’s undercard in his battle against the also unbeaten Radivoje “Hot Rod” Kalajdzic (21-0, 14KOs), “These are the kind of nights we envisioned.  It’s so great to see my friends and Olympic brothers doing as well as me.”

As for Algieri, as per the usual drill, he is more than ready for the guy few want to fight. “I think everyone knows that I’ll fight anybody.  Spence is a guy people don’t want to fight, so they brought him to me,”stated Algieri, adding with regards to the new addition of a star trainer in his corner, “the best thing about working with John David Jackson is the confidence he gives me.  He lets me be who I am.  He gives me the faith to trust in my abilities.”

Broner Tweets Address From Jail On Heels Of Indictment

(AllHipHop News) In what could be called an untraditional move, boxer Adrien Broner, who was indicted Thursday, April 14, 2016 on charges stemming from an altercation on January 21, 2016 where it is alleged that Broner brandished a gun, beat and stole money from a man outside of a Cincinnati, Ohio bowling alley after a gambling dispute over $14000, has tweeted his address to receive communications from fans at the Hamilton County Justice Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he will be held until April 22, 2016.

Broner’s incarceration on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 is not directly tied to Thursday’s indictment for alleged felony assault and robbery at gunpoint, but as reported in The Guardian, is part of a 10 day sentence that Broner began serving on Tuesday morning in connection to a probation violation related to a drunk driving arrest in 2015 to which Broner had previously entered a plea of no contest to reckless driving in exchange for six months probation.

Should Broner be found guilty on these charges of felony assault and robbery, he could be sentenced to serve up to 26 years in prison.

Ol’ Dirty Bastard Once Bugged Out During A Mariah Carey Recording Session

Mariah Carey has certainly collaborated with nearly everyone in Hip Hop and is often credited with helping taking Hip Hop to mainstream audiences. With that said, Billboard recently caught up with some of the people involved in Mariah’s biggest collaborations for insight into each track. Billboard of course touched on Carey’s “Fantasy” Remix featuring Ol’ Dirty Bastard. The remix’s A&R rep, Cory Rooney revealed some pretty entertaining details about the session with O.D.B. Rooney says,

“I reached out to ODB and he wanted $15,000 to rap on the record. At the time, that was a lot of money, but it really wasn’t for Mariah Carey’s budget — so, no problem. He finally showed up, three hours late, and when he got there, it was about 10:30 at night. He had been drinking, and was on the phone when he walked in. Irate, screaming at some girl how he’s gonna come kill her, he’s going to kick her ass…and then whispering, ‘I love you.’ Then screaming again. This went on for an hour.”

“He finally came out and was like, ‘Yo, pardon me, this b*tch is driving me crazy. I need some Moet and Newports before we get into this record. I said, ‘It’s 12:30 at night now bro, I don’t know where we’re going to get Moet from.’ He started yelling at the assistants, calling them white devils, saying, ‘You white devils, y’all don’t want black people to have s###.’ They went out for like an hour, and the only thing they could find were some Heinekens. He was so disgusted, he threw a bottle on the floor.”

O.D.B would end up falling asleep three times during the session and asking for another $15,000 to record a new intro to the song, and $15,000 more to appear in the music video. The day of the video O.D.B. said he didn’t have anything to wear so they took him to the mall. Once he got back on set he decided he was going to wear jeans, Timbs, and no shirt (none of the things he made them take him to the mall to purchase.) Needless to say, they wanted to kill him. Former Death Row Singer Danny Boy Goes In On Michel’le!

Many have come out and suggested that Michel’le was one of the reasons for Death Row’s demise. Former Death Row singer Danny Boy says Michel’le’s role in Death row was being “super b*tch” and the devil.

Danny Boy says Michel’le destroyed lives. He claims she took his car, moved someone else into his home, and cut off all payments to him while Suge Knight was locked up. According to him, it was never about Death Row, it was about Michel’le. Danny Boy called Michel’le a flat out hoe! There had been accusations that Michel’le may have messed with Tupac too, but Danny Boy says he’s not sure that happened because Suge’s girls were off limits.

Kevin Gates Calls Kobe Bryant A Snitch!

Kevin Gates was one of the people who sat out on celebrating Kobe Bryant’s last game. Gates says he can’t rock with Kobe because Kobe is a snitch.

“That n*gga a rat man,” said Gates.

Back when Kobe was facing rape accusations/charges his words were,

“I should’ve paid them off like Shaq”.

Kobe told investigators that Shaq would pay women a lot of money to stay quiet. Basically many feel that Kobe had no reason to bring Shaq into his own drama. We guess it’s just funny to hear other people’s opinions on others when there is so much going on in their own lives i.e) Gates’ drug use, having sex with his cousin, kicking women in the chest etc. Regardless, Gates wants you to know he doesn’t support snitches. Some people decided to point out to Gates that he was a former drug dealer and convicted felon that poisoned his own people, so he had no room to worry about a man snitching on another man’s sexual activities outside of his marriage. Well it looks like Gates also has some new problems of his own as he can’t release another album until next February. What are your thoughts?
