EXCLUSIVE: Twista Talks Turning Down Role In ‘Chi-Raq’ & Admits To Using Ghostwriters (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Spike Lee’s latest movie Chi-Raq has been hit with controversy. Several Chicago based rappers have denounced the movie for promoting a negative image of their hometown. According to outspoken Chi-Raq critic Rhymefest, rap stars such as Kanye West and Common turned down an opportunity to star in the movie over issues with the storyline.

AllHipHop.com caught up with fellow Chicago emcee Twista to find out his thoughts on Lee’s Chi-Raq. The “Slow Jamz” rhymer took issue with the title of the movie, the city’s tragedies being made into a satire, and the lack of homegrown talent featured in the film. Twista also revealed he also turned down a part in the motion picture.

“I got a call, but as soon as I found out the name of it – some people had to go into it a little bit to see that it was a bad idea,” says Twista. “As soon as I heard it – ‘What? It’s called Chi-Raq? F*ck that sh*t.’ We’re trying to get away from that. Why would I get in a movie that’s titled that?”

Another major topic from 2015 was the use of ghostwriters in Hip Hop. The conversation was sparked by Meek Mill calling out Drake for not writing his verse on their collaboration “R.I.C.O.” Has Twista ever had someone else pen his rhymes?

“Yeah,” he admits. “Not nothing where I’m trying to prove to you that Twista is the dopest artist or I got the best lyrics.”

The creator of the Livin Legend EP adds he only used a ghostwriter on about three songs. In addition, Twista warns he still has the lyrical ability to take on anyone that may want to challenge him.

Shya L’amour Says “Stand Your Ground” With New Track

“I had a baby by a stranger”, the opening line on Shya L’amour’s single “Stand Your Ground”. These days it’s not uncommon to see situations like this play out on social media. Instead of announcing her reality on Instagram or Facebook like most, Shya L’amour decided to keep it moving.

This was a rocky start for her 2015 and as soon as things began to look brighter for the emerging rapper she was hit with another blow. The only father figure her unborn baby has ever known was arrested and not granted a bond in a Stand Your Ground type of case. Now fighting for bond for a person who has never been convicted of a crime and a fair trial for a person arrested without incident, Shya L’amour almost reached her breaking point.

Continuing to stand her own ground and not crack under pressure, Shya L’amour decided to use the booth to release some tension. “Stand Your Ground” is Shya L’amour’s reality and personal account of what 2015 has been like. The beautiful starlet is currently in the studio working on new music, her beauty initiative “Shya L’amour & Friends Style Lounge” and various event hosting gigs.

Rae Sremmurd Sends Shots At Hot 97’s Ebro During 20 Minute Freestyle (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Hot 97 host Ebro has caught the wrath of Hip Hop duo Rae Sremmurd. The radio personality took issue with Complex naming the Ear Drummer Records artists’ debut SremmLife as the number three album of 2015. He also claimed the words on the project were written by other people besides Rae Sremmurd.

Swae Lee and Slim Jimmy have now fired back at Ebro with a few bars during a 20 minute freestyle on TimWestwoodTV. Rae Sremmurd used the moment to let the former program director of the New York City station know they are not too concerned with his opinion.

“Catch me overseas, I’m dropping Euros, Euros. I ain’t never gave a f*ck about a Ebro, Ebro,” rapped Swae.

Jimmy added, “Ebro, Ebro – f*ck you. I’m super cold, subzero, zero. Hating like the flow ain’t lethal, lethal.”

Westwood also directly asked the brothers about what Ebro had to say concerning their LP. They were a little more diplomatic than the rhymes in the freestyle.

“We ain’t worried about it. People want to express their opinions. It’s his opinion,” stated Swae Lee. “Express your opinion. We’re gonna keep banging out. We’re just making music.”

The “No Flex Zone” rhymers did have a problem with Ebro making accusations that they did not write their lyrics on SremmLife. Swae said, “We ain’t even gotta address that. You can look on the album and see who writes the tracks. Do that, but don’t put no fake facts out there.”

Could Jermaine Dupri Save Iggy Azalea’s Career?

Photo via Iggy Azalea’s Instagram

Iggy Azalea seems to need a career boost, and music mogul and super producer Jermaine Dupri feels he can give her career exactly what it needs. Jermaine Dupri recently appeared on the Wendy Williams Show and revealed that there was actually a time when he wanted to sign Iggy, but unfortunately she curved him! Dupri says Iggy kind of gave him the “Hollywood” hit my manager answer when he reached out about wanting to sign her and thinking that she was actually a dope artist. JD told Wendy,

“I just feel like artists don’t know everything. That’s why you have a mentor like myself, or you have a Clive Davis, or a LA Reid. These people are out there to hold them down.”

Would Iggy have been better off under JD instead of T.I.?
