EXCLUSIVE: Dr. Dre’s Collaborator Says “Nuthin’ But A ‘G’ Thang” Was Originally Recorded As A Disco-Pop Record

(AllHipHop News) Dr. Dre’s “Nuthin’ But A ‘G’ Thang” is widely considered one of the greatest Hip Hop records of all time. The song played a role in establishing Dre as a solo artist and introducing fellow rap legend Snoop Dogg.

The 1992 classic heavily samples Leon Haywood’s “I Want’a Do Something Freaky To You,” but one of Dre’s new musical collaborators tells AllHipHop.com that “‘G’ Thang” was originally rapped over the track from a 1981 Hall & Oates song.

“[Dre] told me they originally did ‘Nuthin’ But A ‘G’ Thang’ to ‘I Can’t Go For That.’ That uptempo, soul pop song. It was going to be this disco type song,” says Anderson .Paak. “They actually did a demo to it, and Snoop recorded that sh*t from jail.”

The R&B vocalist also recalled Dre telling the story of the creation of another early collaboration with his protégé Snoop. According to Paak, “Deep Cover” (aka “187”) was created under tough circumstances.

“I asked him to break down the story of when they were recording [‘Deep Cover’]. He told me, ‘We did that sh*t on a broken bass in a room with Snoop,'” states Paak.

Anderson .Paak worked with Dr. Dre on the recently released Compton album. The Oxnard, California native was credited on six songs and appears on two others. Paak has also dropped his solo effort Venice and a joint project with Blended Babies titled The Anderson .Paak EPHe also performs as one half of NxWorries with producer Knxwledge.

Travis Scott Explains Why He Doesn’t Get Involved In Political Action Like The Ferguson Protests (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) It has been over a year since the killing of Micheal Brown sparked protests in Ferguson, Missouri. Brown’s death at the hands of police officer Darren Wilson further ignited the Black Lives Matter movement in cities across the country. Activists are even set to gather in Washington, DC this weekend for the “Justice Or Else” march calling for equal justice under the law regardless of creed, class, or color.

While Hip Hop representatives have joined with Black Lives Matter protesters and numerous entertainers are expected to take part in “Justice Or Else,” Texas rapper Travis Scott recently expressed to Clique he does not have any interest in taking part in political/social activism.

“I don’t really get too involved in the whole political sh*t. That’s sh*t’s too weird,” said Scott.

He continued, “It’s like the second Saturday. Are motherf*ckers still in Ferguson? I don’t think so. I’m pretty sure n*ggas’ lot is still burnt the f*ck down. And n*ggas’ cribs are f*cked up now. And n*ggas’ neighborhood that was probably once good is now a ghetto.”

Since the unrest in 2014, Ferguson has seen new city officials and a new police chief appointed. Andre Anderson, the city’s first African-American head of police, has stated one of his main goals is to retrain officers on bias and hiring more qualified Black officers. The department was severely unrepresentative of the majority Black community it was policing.

Missouri governor Jay Nixon also signed a new bill into law that will limit the share of total revenue St. Louis County municipalities can collect through traffic fines at 12.5%. Reform advocates criticized Ferguson’s reliance on traffic tickets to fund city services, and residents complained the $2 million collected in minor traffic tickets and court fees was a form of exploitation against the city’s citizens.

Tinashe sat down with Montreality, and the RCA recording artist was asked about the Meek Mill versus Drake feud. According to her answer, all the great Hip Hop battles in history were unnecessary and Meek’s issue with Drake using Quentin Miller to write some of his lyrics was pointless.

“Honestly, I think that beef in general is really silly,” said Tinashe. “It really doesn’t matter who’s writing what. I think at the end of the day, music is music, and we should just all enjoy it, shut up, and dance.”

In addition, the former girl group member also shared her favorite OutKast song (“Roses”) and album (ATLiens).  Tinashe also revealed her celebrity crush is 2Pac.

50 Cent Sues His Lawyers For $75 Million

50 Cent has filed a lawsuit against the law firm Garvey Schubert Barer because he feels like they poorly represented him in his case against Sleek Audio, Business Insider reports. Fif filed the case in Connecticut bankruptcy court on Oct. 6th and is asking for a whopping $75 million. According to documents, the Queens rapper says that the Wall Street law firm did not “employ the requisite knowledge and skill necessary to confront the circumstances of the case.”

In 2010, 50 Cent teamed up with Sleek Audio to launch his own brand of headphones, “Sleek by 50.” When Sleek missed their launch deadline and the headphones didn’t hit the market, 50 went on to start his own headphone company, SMS Audio. In the court documents, the Power producer claims that his lawyers advised him that he would not be infringing on any intellectual rights and that Sleek Audio could not have a case against him. They were wrong.

Sleek Audio later filed a lawsuit against 50 claiming that he misappropriated trade secrets to sell his SMS Audio headphones. They ended up winning and the judge ruled that 50 had to pay them $11 million along with another $5 million for attorney’s fees.

Losing the case reportedly played a role in Fiddy filing for bankruptcy due to the expensive legal fees. A judge also ruled that he pay Rick Ross’ ex-girlfriend $5 million after it was ruled that he published her sex tape on the internet with malicious intent.

#ATLRiseUp: Daye Jack Is Inserting The Soul Back Into Southern Based Hip Hop

Somewhere in this Hip Hop soul community was born an artist with expressive music that is helping to redefine the aura of the Southern sound. More specifically, it was Fela Kuti’s home country and Gladys Knight’s home city that conceived rising performer Daye Jack.

Around the age of 6, Jack, his American father, and Nigerian mother moved from the West African nation to the Atlanta suburb of Duluth, Georgia. It was not long after that migration across the Atlantic Ocean when a young Daye used the music of OutKast, T.I., and other A-Town rap representatives as templates for his own creations.

“After listening to an album I really liked, I would think, ‘Maybe I can try and do this, but do it my own way.’ I just took parts from these albums I really loved and tried to see what I could do with it,” Jack explains to AllHipHop.com. “After two years as a hobby, I said, ‘I can actually do this.’”

The now 19-year-old rapper-singer has grabbed the attention of the industry with his eye-popping videos and genre-melding tunes. Jack’s 2014 independent mixtape Hello World was not an overnight breakout success, but the emotional project put him in a position to eventually ink a deal with Warner Bros Records.

“I put out the tape after like four months of working on it. I put it out and didn’t get hit up. It didn’t seem like anyone was listening to it,” recalls Jack. “Overtime people were hitting me up, and I was getting into different meetings. But it wasn’t like I put it out then I started getting phone calls. I put out the tape, and a couple of months later I linked up with my managers. A couple of months later, I started talking to different labels.”

hello world

Even as Hello World continued to spread, Jack turned his attention to his next collection. This past June the exceptionally cohesive Soul Glitch hit the internet, and the otherworldly take on soul-based Hip Hop was further evidence a bright new voice had landed.

“I was so picky on the sound. I knew going in what I wanted sound wise for the project,” Jack states. “It wasn’t so much, ‘Let me find a certain type of beat.’ For this one, I was thinking, ‘I have a particular sound in mind, and I’m going to spend as much time as it takes to find people making that sound with soulful stuff.’”

Soul Glitch songs such as “Easy” and “Choices” present a confident lyricist capable of tapping into the everyman archetype. While tracks like “Stars Align” and “Feed On Love” show Daye is still not content when it comes to success and love.

The deluxe edition of Soul Glitch was released through WBR, but Jack insists his new label deal did not impact the aesthetics of his debut retail project. Most of the artistic work was completed before he etched his name on the dotted line.

“I was already done with Soul Glitch before I signed. It was still on the same tip. I was still linking with people via the internet, working with friends, having my homie from Atlanta mix and master, and working on the artwork for it with my friend in Atlanta,” says Jack. “What changed was the team that I had with me when it was time to finish it up was bigger. Clearing it, getting it on iTunes – there was a team there to do that. That was more on the business side.”

Even though many of the hands involved with his latest body of work were stationed in the ATL, Daye has actually spent several years in other locales. At the moment, Jack is based in Los Angeles, and Hello World was actually recorded when he was a freshman computer science major at New York University.

Perhaps some observers think Jack’s current career as a music artist may be a big leap from his college pursuit of being the next Steve Jobs or Mark Zuckerberg, but the two worlds may actually be more aligned than it seems.

“For me, the big thing about computer science – a lot of people may disagree – but it’s a real creative thing. I didn’t go into it for a love of math. I went into it because I think it’s really creative,” Jack relays. “You start from scratch, code for a little bit, and then end up with something that works. That’s like the same thing as making music. They’re parallels of each other. You start with a beat, then you write, and then you end up with a song.”

Daye’s inventive mind was on display for the “Save My Soul” video. The David Gallardo directed clip exhibited compelling artistry through simplicity. With just a spinning subject, colored backgrounds, and white paint, the Jack-Gallardo combination forged an art piece that left it to the viewer to decide its meaning. But of course, Daye has his own interpretation.

“There’s definitely layers to that video. A lot of things that drew me to making a video like that was the idea of being turned into a statue. When you’re a statue, you’re a permanent thing. You’re always there. Your accolades are there. People always remember you,” states Jack. “For me it’s the idea of being turned into a statue and your legacy forever being part of the society, past when you’re gone.”

Legacy is something the teenager is already concentrating on. As other rappers are just looking to cash out with a hit single or two, Jack wants to leave an undeniable stamp on culture.

“When I’m 25, some of my goals could be different from right now. But right now when I look at it, it’s like you have to have a reason to make this music. If you want to be remembered, you have to know what you want to be remembered for. You have to know what you’re chasing,” says Jack.

The next step in Jack’s mission to cement his name among the greats will be another project that is in the works. So far, the process is in the early stages, but he has already connected with producer/instrumentalist Mike Elizondo (Eminem, 50 Cent).

Whenever the follow-up to Soul Glitch becomes available, Jack’s popularity will likely reach yet another level. But does the budding entertainer fear becoming a victim of stardom lacking peace like the line from his “Save My Soul”?

“I think I love to question it, because it’s something that I want. When you really want something or really want to be successful, you do a lot of things to get there,” expresses Jack about the idea of fame. “That’s where my head’s at. It’s more questioning it: Is the end goal worth it?

He adds, “A lot of people are happy, and they’re not famous or extremely rich. For me, it’s just asking, ‘Are the goals worth it or do these goals need to be different for me? Is spending time away from family worth it? Is locking yourself in the studio worth it? Not chilling with friends or going out? Obviously for me, it’s worth it, but some days I question it.’”

Eminem Responds To 10-Year-Old Fan With Customized Eminem Prostethic Legs

Many rappers do not take the time to respond to any fan mail or special shout outs via social media, but Eminem is not one of those rappers.

According to the Southern Daily Echo, one of his young fans, a 10-year-old boy from England, recently reached out to him via Facebook and Slim Shady took notice. Teejay Stainer was born without a calf bone and was forced to undergo an amputation at just 14-months-old.  He credits Eminem for making him feel “brave” enough to go on despite his disability.

Stainer has prosthetic legs decorated with Eminem’s face and his only wish was for his hero to see them. His mother, Georgina, uploaded a picture to Facebook of Stainer and his prostethic legs with him holding up a sign that read “These are my Eminem legs I’ve had made. My wish is for Eminem to see them.” After more than 20,000 shares, his dream came true. The Detroit rapper sent Stainer an autographed copy of his 2010 album Recovery with a message that read “To Teejay, I saw your pic and read your message! Thanks for the support!”

“I think he sent me that album in particular because of the recovery that I’ve made,” Stainer told the Southern Daily Echo.
