Trick Daddy Responds To Birdman’s Breakfast Club Interview

When Birdman threw his “respeck” tantrum on The Breakfast Club, Charlamagne made sure to make us chuckle by asking Birdman if he pulled up on Rick Ross and Trick Daddy the same way he pulled up on the BC hosts. Well, Trick Daddy was doing The Legends of Southern Hip Hop Concert over the weekend in Jacksonville, Florida, and during his set he addressed Birdman’s Breakfast Club tantrum.

“Was y’all watching The Breakfast Club, y’all hear that sh*t this morning? .. All three of ya,” Trick Daddy said. I got one comment.”

Trick then immediately played his 1998 hit “Nann n*gga.” It looks like Trick is saying Birdman doesn’t want those problems and there wasn’t any pulling up around his way. They are both crazy wild so we hope this is the last we hear of it.

Jermaine Dupri Says Future’s “Commas” & Desiigner’s “Panda” Have The Same Beat

Jermaine Dupri may have made the Desiigner hate grow as he “revealed” that Future’s ” F*ck Up Some Commas” and Desiigner’s “Panda” have the same beat. JD says he really doesn’t care, but he just noticed it when he was messing around on the tables. Some agree, and some feel like they sound nothing alike. We swear so much has sounded just alike for the last few years anyway. SMH. What are your thoughts?

Is Dame Dash’s Ex-Wife The Mistress Beyonce Was Referring To?

This weekend was one for the books with “repeckin'” Birdman and Beyonce getting women and the Beyhive in formation for her Lemonade album and HBO special. Beyonce seemed to suggest that there may have been instances of infidelity in her marriage with Jay Z. In her HBO special she revealed the lyrics to her song “Sorry.” The lines that grabbed the most attention are,

“He only want me when I’m not on there / He better call Becky with the good hair.”

Now rumors have followed Beyonce, Jay-Z, and Dame Dash’s ex-wife, Rachel Roy, for a few years. Many believe the Elevatorgate scandal between Jay Z and Solange popped off because Solonge seeing them (Roy and Jay) together infuriated her. Following the immediate scandal, Rachel released a tweet about how “The beach was better”, referring to Jay’s song. Interestingly enough, after ‘Lemonade’ aired, Roy posted on Instagram a post with a caption that included “Good hair don’t care.” This lead the Beyhive to a massive attack on not only her page but some sorry Beyhive members also mistakenly attacked chef Rachael Ray’s page as well. Roy soon deleted the post and said she supports love and marriage but has to take a stance against bullying. But Rachel brought it on herself. Something is fishy about this entire situation. That Rachel is one messy heaux girl.

Kid Cudi Blasts The Industry & Reveals Suicidal Thoughts

It looks like Kid Cudi is the latest rapper to have a social media meltdown and rant. His rant was a little dark as it also revealed suicidal thoughts. Cudi tweeted,

“I think about blowin my brains out a handful times a week. I fear no one. I gives no f*cks. I’m a warrior in hell.”

Kid Cudi also went on to reveal that he has no friends in the industry and that he’s underappreciated in every aspect of his life. He also seems to feel that no one is messing with him or on his level right now. All in all, in his rant, there did come a positive note. He’s dropping a new album this summer! Are you ready for new music from Kid Cudi? We sure hope he seeks help also.

EXCLUSIVE: Bryshere “Yazz” Gray Talks Playing Michael Bivins In BET’s New Edition Biopic

(AllHipHop Features) Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky, Mike, Ralph, and Johnny are getting the biopic treatment. BET announced the members of the Boston-bred R&B group New Edition will be the subject of an upcoming miniseries about their careers, and Empire star Bryshere “Yazz” Gray was tapped to play New Jack Swing pioneer Michael Bivins.

[ALSO READ: BET To Premiere A New Edition Biopic]

Gray is part of a cast that includes Keith Powers (Ronnie DeVoe), Woody McClain (Bobby Brown), Elijah Kelley (Ricky Bell), Algee Smith (Ralph Tresvant), and Luke James (Johnny Gill). AllHipHop.com spoke with the 22-year-old rapper/actor by phone from rehearsals for the New Edition miniseries, and Yazz discussed his preparation for taking on the role of Biv.

“I’ve been working with a dialect coach. I went to Boston for about four weeks to really live that Boston life to understand where Michael came from,” says Gray. “I was just learning a lot about him, so I can take that home with me. It’s fun.”

In order to perfect the singing, rapping, and dancing associated with hit records such as “Cool It Now” and “If It Isn’t Love,” Gray and the other performers have been practicing for twelve hours a day. The opportunity to present the story of the founding member of Bell Biv DeVoe was a special assignment for Yazz.

“What made me interested in the project? Anything that’s legendary I want to be part of. I had to be part of it,” adds Gray. “Michael Bivins is the character that stuck out to me from day 1 when I heard New Edition. I was really lucky for them to have me play Michael Bivins, because I love New Edition so much.”

According to Gray, the 3-part biographical movie will cover New Edition from their childhood into the their 30’s. Dante Hoagland (Bivins), Caleb McLaughlin (Bell), Jahi Winston (Tresvant), Myles Truitt (DeVoe), and Tyler Williams (Brown) are set to portray the singers in their younger days.

New Edition: The Movie is scheduled to premiere in 2017. All the members of New Edition are signed on as co-producers. The script was written by Abdul Williams (Lottery Ticket) with Chris Robinson (ATL) directing.

Yazz’s talents will also be part of the Empire: Original Soundtrack, Season 2 Volume 2 album being released on April 29. AllHipHop.com recently premiered “Got That Work,” the Philadelphia native’s single from the forthcoming compilation.

(AllHipHop News) Back in 1989, Prince headed the soundtrack for the Warner Bros blockbuster superhero film Batman. The collection of tunes was also released as a Prince album. Batman the LP led the Billboard 200 album chart for six weeks and spawned the #1 hit “Batdance.”

The single actually had a remixed version which featured fellow Warner Bros Records artist Big Daddy Kane, but it was never officially released. “Batdance Remix” producer John Luongo recently talked about the union of the musical genius and the Hip Hop star. He also explained why the song never saw the light of day 27 years ago.

“[Kane] had a great reputation. I knew there was a great respect for him in the community. And I think his work and persona was something that Prince appreciated, too.” Luongo told the L.A. Times. “He had a melodic quality to him, which some rappers really didn’t. You put all that together, and it made him a really attractive addition.”

He added, “I remember FedEx was there waiting as I did my best to finish up, so we could make the next plane to rush it over to L.A. and Minnesota to let Warner Bros. and Prince hear what I had done… And then Warner Bros. said they didn’t like it; it was too different. And that was it. They didn’t release it.”

As the network was cutting to commercial, the former NBA player and coach gave a shout out to the Warriors by using Birdman’s words.

“Total team effort by the Warriors. MVP [Steph Curry] goes down, they find a way to get it done,” said Jackson. “When you say Warriors, put some respeck on they name.”

The defending champions went on to defeat the Rockets 121-94. The Warriors managed to take the win despite the fact Curry did not play in the second half of the game because of a knee injury. Houston now trails Golden State 3 games to 1 in the Western Conference first round playoff series.

“Me and Mrs. Jones” Singer Billy Paul Dies Of Cancer

(AllHipHop News) The world of music suffered another loss tonight (April 24) with the death of musician Billy Paul from pancreatic cancer.

Billy Paul’s #1 hit song “Me and Mrs. Jones” was released in 1972 on the album 360 Degrees of Billy Paul.

While he never had a single a huge as “Me and Mrs. Jones,” Billy Paul, 80, leaves behind an influential body of work that includes the albums Ebony Woman, War of The Gods and others.

Billy Paul’s music has been sampled by a variety of Hip-Hop artists including Rick Ross and Game, Gangstarr, J. Dilla, Young Jeezy, Ludacris and Wu-Tang Clan to name a few.

The Grammy Award winning singer recorded for Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff’s Philadelphia International Records. The legendary producers discussed Billy Paul’s legacy in a statement to AllHipHop.com:

“We are very saddened to learn of the sudden death of our good friend and Philadelphia International Records recording artist Billy Paul. From the time we saw Billy performing live, and then signing him to our PIR/TSOP label, we immediately realized that we had discovered and launched one the most unique voices in the music industry. Billy’s voice combined both Jazz, R&B and Soul vocals, making him one the great artists to come out of Philly and to be celebrated worldwide. Our proudest moment with Billy was the recording of the salacious smash ‘Me and Mrs. Jones.’ In our view, it is one of the greatest love songs ever recorded. Billy was one of the first artists to help launch the PIR/TSOP brand, and he will forever have a special place in music history.”

Saturday Night Live Dedicates Last Night’s Episode To Prince

There has been several artists that have had incredible performances on Saturday Night Live, but very few could match up to Prince’s level. Instead of booking an artist to perform through comedy skits this weekend, SNL dedicated last night’s episode to the singer. Jimmy Fallon started the show off with an emotional speech about Prince’s impact on music and SNL. It also featured past performances from his early years to the show’s 40th anniversary after party, as well as clips of comedian Fred Amison playing as Prince in the comedy sketch “The Prince Show.”

Hip Hop was the center of attention at the first ever National Cannibus Festival in Washington, DC. Legendary rap group De La Soul was the headline for the event, and performed a plethora of singles from their catalogue, including some new music from their upcoming project that’s dropping in August. Plug One (also known as Posdnuos) rapped his verse from De La’s new single “Train Wreck” for the first time ever during the performance.

Another shining moment during De La Soul’s performance was when the trio honored legendary hip hop group, A Tribe Called Quest by performing a brief verse from their single “Excursions.”

To end their performance, and close the festival, De La Soul went back to perform their biggest hits including “Me Myself, and I,” “Rock Co.Kane Flow,” and the classic single which features ATCQ, Queen Latifah, and the Jungle Brothers as super collective, Native Tongues. Although the festival focused mainly on pushing marijuana policy through several panels, vendors, and products, their performance managed to bring together everyone to for a trip back to the old days of Hip Hop. Rapper Ra Diggs Sent To Supermax

(AllHipHop News) Brooklyn rapper Ronald “Ra Diggs” Herron is so dangerous, that a judge has sent him to the Supermax prison in Florence, Colorado.

Ra Diggs was convicted and given three life sentences in June of 2014 for his role in three separate murders in New York.

Authorities maintain the rapper, who once recorded records with artists like Uncle Murda and Murda Team as well as Waka Flocka, was still issuing orders from his prison cell.

Officials insist that Ra Diggs was the head of a Blood set in New York and has continued to call shots and intimidate witnesses.

Ra Diggs has so much control of his Blood gang from prison that he had to be shipped off to Florence ADX, where he will be in total isolation almost 24-hours a day since he’s been labeled as deadly as a terrorist.

In a lengthy Facebook post in 2014, Ra Diggs wrote about the charges and his prison sentence.

He denied being involved in any of the felonies he was convicted of and accused overzealous prosecutors of using his rap lyrics against him:

The great strides I have made professionally in the music industry has been overshadowed by the mud slinging & the vast attempts by the government officials to hang unanswered crimes on my rising star,” Ra Diggs wrote. “Although these are not victimless crimes, & my sincerest sympathy & condolence is offered to anyone who has been affected or lose someone as a result of these atrocious allegations, I am not personally responsible for any of these accusations. I use rap as a vehicle to tell stories that depict my environment, express & vent about past experiences, & to explore dreams & fantasies of grandeur. But somehow the lyrics I have spent countless painstaking hours writing & recording to make a living, & escape a life of crime & recidivism are being utilized to demonize & create a fictitious event of crime & terror in a community neglected by the assistance of local law enforcement for decades.

Prince Cremated In Private Ceremony

(AllHipHop News) Prince’s remains have been cremated and his family and friends attended a private ceremony on Saturday to pay their respects to the late pop superstar at the studio complex where he died in a suburb of Minneapolis, a Prince spokeswoman said.

Among those seen entering the Paisley Park Studios complex, where Prince lived in Chanhassen, Minnesota, were his sister, Tyka Nelson, musician and former collaborator Sheila E., his former bass player Larry Graham and model Damaris Lewis.

The service came two days after Prince, whose hits included “Purple Rain” and “When Doves Cry,” was found dead in an elevator at the complex at age 57. His death shocked millions of fans around the world and prompted glowing tributes from fellow musicians and public figures, including President Barack Obama.

“Prince was celebrated by a small group of his most beloved: family, friends and his musicians, in a private, beautiful ceremony to say a loving goodbye,” Prince publicist Anna Meacham.

Meacham said Prince’s remains have been cremated and their final resting place will remain private. Plans are under way for a musical celebration of Prince, with details to be announced later, she said.

On Saturday, Graham stood at a gate of Paisley Park Studios and thanked some of the hundreds of fans gathered on the lawn outside to show their admiration of Prince, a seven-time Grammy winner whose music blended rock, funk, R&B, jazz and disco.

“Prince made us all better musicians and spiritually is the most important thing, but as musician he pushed us and he made us better and we listened deeply,” Graham told the fans.

Participants in the ceremony handed some fans outside gift boxes that contained items such as Prince-themed apparel and a compact disc of music.

An autopsy on Prince was conducted on Friday and authorities are investigating his death.

Police said on Friday no signs of suicide or obvious trauma were found in Prince’s death. The local medical examiner’s office said it could take weeks before autopsy and toxicology results reveal how the groundbreaking performer died.

Prince had been on a U.S. tour as recently as last week.

But he was briefly hospitalized a week ago, suffering from what his representative told celebrity news website TMZ was the flu, after his plane made an emergency landing in Moline, Illinois.

Beyoncé’s “Lemonade” Makes Bittersweet Statement On Relationship Issues

(AllHipHop News) Beyoncé released the visuals from her new video album Lemonade Saturday night (April 23) on HBO.

The series of videos and songs were statements on the status of her relationship with her husband Jay Z and her father, Mathew Knowles.

Visually, the videos were also a tribute to African-American women, featuring the mothers of Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown, amongst others.

The Lemonade album features Kendrick Lamar, Diplo, The Weeknd, Jack White, with poetry interspersed spoken by Beyoncé, but written by Somali-British poet Warsan Shire.

The visuals feature a number of models Zendaya and Serena Williams, who does some twerking in a scene, even though fashion in most of the videos evoke the 1800’s.

The Internet is going wild with speculation that the songs like “Don’t Hurt Yourself” and “Pray You Catch Me” are about her husband, music mogul/rapper Jay Z.

She even tosses her wedding ring at the camera in one scene.

But, Jay Z is featured prominently in the videos cuddling with Bey and playing with their daughter Blu Ivy in the video for “Sandcastles.”

Beyoncé made a statement on a strained relationship with her father, on the song “Daddy Lessons” which could easily cross over into a country hit.

Beyoncé dropped her surprise sixth album that during the HBO special last night.

Lemonade is being sold exclusively on Jay-Z’s Tidal streaming service for the time being.
