Woman Says She’s The Real Life Cookie And Sues ‘Empire’ Creators For $300 Million

A woman has filed a lawsuit against the creators of the FOX hit Empire for allegedly stealing her life story, TMZ reports. Sophia Eggelston claims that she is the real “Cookie,” the character played by Taraji P. Henson, and that many aspects of that character fit her real life. Her lawsuit is for $300 million.

Eggleston said that she gave a copy of her autobiography to a screenwriter in 2011 and that that screenwriter later pitched the book to Lee Daniels, who later became the co-creator of Empire.

Eggleston isn’t the first to claim that the Empire creators stole their life story. Ron Newt, claims that when he met Terrence Howard, he pitched him a documentary he was working on about his life as a gangster and a pimp. After the FOX series premiered, he reportedly filed a lawsuit for $1 billion because the similarities hit too close to home.

50 Cent Reminds Ja Rule That He Killed Him With Past Beef?

Photo’s via 50 Cent & Ja Rule’s Instagram

Uh oh! Will this be 50 Cent vs. Ja Rule beef round 50? Ja Rule has been feeling himself with some of his posts on social media, and through some of the comments he has made in various interviews. 50 Cent wasted no time reminding Ja Rule that he “put his a** to sleep” during their beef. While the Meek Mill vs. Drake beef is both hilarious and entertaining, it just doesn’t compare to famous beefs of the past. With that being said, who had the best rap beef of all time in your opinion?

#ATLRiseUp: Scotty ATL Is Ready To Usher In A New Era Of Atlanta Hip Hop

For many outside observers, Atlanta has been branded as the capital of Trap Music. The 808s heavy production style has grown beyond I-285 to become the go-to sound of radio programmers around the country.

The success of Trap has brought massive attention to portions of A-Town’s Hip Hop scene, but it has also overshadowed other artists from the city that are creating music that breaks the mold of stereotypical Atlanta rap. One such homegrown performer is Scotty ATL.

“When I first started out a couple years ago, I was frustrated because it felt like people weren’t really paying attention to what else is going on. But now it’s working in my favor,” Scotty tells AllHipHop.com about his style differing from his Trap Music counterparts. “I got an opportunity to change the sound and be a pioneer to usher the new era of what may become how Atlanta music sounds going forward.”

Before Scotty made the leap into Hip Hop as a profession, his mother used Saturday mornings cleaning the house to introduce him to the legendary 2Pac and classics from R&B/Soul giants. The Lithonia, Georgia native would also spend his summers in Arkansas with his father where he discovered Three 6 Mafia and Playa Fly.

His early Hip Hop lessons would go on to include other Southern acts like Playa G, 8Ball & MJG, UGK, and a young Lil Wayne. But it was the national crossover triumph of hometown heroes Big Boi and Andre 3000 that played the most significant role in Scotty’s future in making music.

“That’s when I got hooked. That’s when I felt like, ‘Okay this is something I want to do,’” says Scotty. “When I heard OutKast’s Southernplayalistic that was like the beginning of rap for real for me. Before then I heard of Kilo, Edward J, and people like that in the city.”

Scotty went from a rap listener to a rap creator thanks to his friend King J. The two met playing basketball as teenagers. After hitting the b-ball court, King J would bring Scotty back to his house. J’s mother provided the two budding entertainers meals, and J provided Scotty instrumentals by putting a microphone up to speakers to record tracks.

That makeshift recording studio served as the blueprint for Scotty’s eventual move into self-financing his mixtapes. Unlike Migos with Quality Control Music or Rich Homie Quan with TIG Records, Scotty’s birth in the game came without a well-known local company behind him.

Besides coming out-of-pocket for his musical endeavors, the road to realizing his dreams was also partially blocked by the Trap Music hurdle. Scotty’s career launched during the height of Trap’s emergence, and the casual listener had become trained to admire a particular tone out of Atlanta.

“If you look at the way the music went after OutKast, T.I. brought the Trap music. Jeezy and Gucci Mane made that sh*t big. From there it was like, if you wanna be a big rapper in Atlanta you got to be a trapper. That’s what people knew,” Scotty explains. “I think the OutKasts and the Goodie Mobs got lost in the sauce when you saw Gucci and these guys blowing up so big, so fast.”

As other ATL rappers of his generation embraced the surging musical trend, Scotty decided to keep with the “cool, laid back” mood associated with his area of town. His approach caught the attention of fellow East Side representative B.o.B.

The Grand Hustle performer’s hype man Playboy Tre connected B.o.B to Scotty. A collaboration between the two Dekalb County bred wordsmiths eventually led to Scotty joining B.o.B’s No Genre imprint. Bobby announced his new label line-up on the 2015 project No Genre: The Label.

No_Genre_The_Label

“By the time I met B.o.B at his Underground Luxury release party it was like, ‘Oh, you’re Scotty. We got to do one for the East Side.’ I thought he was bullsh*tting, giving me the industry talk. But he was dead serious,” says Scotty. “He did the record ‘Nun But A Party’ with me and IAMSU. Then I went on tour with him and Kevin Gates. The rest was history.”

Scotty and B.o.B revived their musical partnership on the track “I’ont Really” off 2015’s Traffic Jamz. The mixtape also features Scotty’s single “Cloud IX” which is getting radio spins on Atlanta’s Hip Hop stations Hot 107.9 and Streetz 94.5.

As his fame continues to grow, Scotty also has to face the new problems that come with being in the public eye. The entire Hustle Gang family was rocked by the murder of Alabama rapper Doe B in 2013. The killing of his “I’ll Never Forget” collaborator and the changing attitudes of some people around him have made Scotty reevaluate his circle.

“I watched close friends, family, and just people around me change. The craziest part is that I understand why they’re acting like that,” Scotty reveals. “People don’t wanna be left behind. People don’t wanna miss out. Sometimes people are jealous. They don’t wanna be jealous, but they don’t know how to turn it off.”

There is an old saying that you will discover it is “lonely at the top.” Public figures from entertainers to CEOs to politicians have expressed the sentiment that reaching the pinnacle of the pyramid can leave you feeling deserted. It has only been four years since Scotty released his breakout mixtape Summer Dreams, but he has already experienced the solitude of stardom.

“In my mind, I always said, ‘It’s not gonna be lonely for me. I’ll have all my n*ggas with me.’ But as you keep going in this sh*t, you start to understand what people mean when they say [it’s lonely at the top],” contends Scotty. “When they say it’s lonely, they mean you have to watch who you can trust, because it feels like you can’t trust nobody.”

Scotty relies on his faith and his talent to maintain going in the right direction – mentally, emotionally, musically and spiritually. He adds, “The only thing that keeps me pushing and positive about it is I know God is going to look out for me. Then I also know the only people that can make it in the industry are the people who can deal with this sh*t. If you can’t deal with the bullsh*t, I don’t give a damn how talented you are, you won’t make it.”

Scotty ATL With 3 Of A-Town's Finest - T.I. + B.o.B + Killer Mike
Scotty ATL With 3 Of A-Town’s Finest: T.I. + B.o.B + Killer Mike

Going by the fact Scotty has YouTube videos topping 50,000 views and co-signs from Killer Mike, 8Ball, Big Gipp, and Big K.R.I.T., it appears Hip Hop followers and performers are pleased by Scotty’s artistic ability. Confidence is one gift Scotty is not lacking either. His goal is to one day be mentioned in the same vein as platinum selling rappers.

“The only option I had was to create music that I felt was going to be better than everybody else’s, put together better, packaged better, the videos would be better,” declares Scotty. “I always saw myself competing with bigger artists like a Jay Z, J. Cole, or Kendrick Lamar. In my mind, that was my competition. That’s been the way I did it from the beginning.”

Scotty ATL is moving forward with his mission of sitting among the greats. He has been logging in a lot of time in the studio in recent months. Another No Genre project with B.o.B. and the rest of the roster is on the horizon. His own brand-new collection is expected to drop by the end of the year as well. According to Scotty, whatever fans get next from him will be an example of his progression as an artist.

“I said, ‘Let me just chill on that for a minute. Let me just get better as an artist.’ I want to perfect my craft,” states Scotty on not rushing to put out more mixtapes. “I feel like whatever I do coming out next – now that I’m linked up with B.o.B and No Genre – I feel like people are going to grade my paper a little harder than they would before.”

EXCLUSIVE: Ice Cube Talks Wanting To Have A Conversation With President Barack Obama

(AllHipHop News) Hip Hop legend Ice Cube once rapped, “I’ll never have dinner with the President.” The line – taken from the classic diss track “No Vaseline” – was a response to Cube’s former N.W.A groupmate Eazy-E attending a luncheon held by Republican President George H.W. Bush.

Nearly 25 years after Cube released “No Vaseline,” the California emcee/actor may have softened his views on sitting down with the POTUS. Especially, since the current man in the White House is the first African-American to hold the office.

AllHipHop.com caught up with Cube to ask him if he is still on a self-imposed ban from having dinner with the Leader of the Free World. The 46-year-old producer of the upcoming N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton reveals he wants to chat with Barack Obama a few years down the road.

“[Laughs] Yeah, I’d break bread with Obama,” says Cube. “Yeah, but I want to do it when he’s not the president. I think the conversation would be better.”

When asked if Obama would be more real once he leaves the White House, Cube replied, “Yep, yep.”

Today is President Obama’s birthday. The 44th President of the United States turns 54.

Exclusive: Tax G Says Fetty Wap Is A Fake

Last week was one for the books with a whole lot of dissing going on between Drake dissing Meek, Safaree dissing Meek and more. Even social media was lambasting Meek. But there was more shade floating in the social cesspool called the internet as you laughed at your favorite Meek Mill memes.

“Bad Guy” dropped with little fanfare, but we caught wind of it here at AllHipHop.com.  Newark Native Tax G went out on a limb and alleged that Fetty Wap and Remy boy P Dice have been taking over his style and presenting it to the world like it’s theirs.

In the record, he brings up Fetty Wap’s similar dreads (which are extensions), the lack of homage being paid for using his ad lib style that he claim Fetty Wap stole and the use of his mermaid lingo. So to get to the bottom of it all AllHipHop caught up with Tax G to find out where did this all come from.

“I’m the one your favorite rapper go his style from?”  – Tax G.

Did you know of each other or have any type of relationship with Fetty Wap or any of the Remy Boyz?

I haven’t them personally met up with P dice specifically we from Jersey we all know each.

So explain what your issue is with Fetty Wap and the remy boyz?

I have style that I’ve been built since 07’- 08’ Once I found he from Jersey I actually downloaded trap queen of iTunes.

Explain to us the whole mermaid situation.

I call my woman Mermaids been calling them that for about 9 years now.

If you felt Fetty Wap took your style a while ago why wait until now to drop a diss record stating that?

I wouldn’t call it a diss record more like a statement.

What are you looking out of dropping this diss record?

He owes his own fans a response.

Do you feel with Jersey being in such a good space that this has potential to stop the forward progress?

I have no beef with Paterson, I have no beef with Fetty Wap. It just something that needs to be addressed to the world.

So what’s next for Tax G?

I have a single out right now call “Real One” I’m pushing. My passion is music appreciate my fans for sticking up for me. Just Fetty Wap to do is pay respect to who he got his style from.

Philly’s Louie V Gutta Claims He Wrote Songs For Meek Mill, Sides With Drake

(AllHipHop News) There is no love lost between Meek Mill and Louie V Gutta. The former associates had a public falling out last year, and it seems the two Philadelphia natives never patched things up. In fact, Gutta recently conducted a Twitter Q&A where he sided with Meek’s current rival Drake.

[ALSO READ: Louie V Gutta Calls Out Meek Mill; Meek Responds]

The online discussion also included Gutta claiming he wrote “a lot” of songs for Meek in the past. The issues between Drake and Meek began after the MMG rapper claimed Drizzy did not write his verse on “R.I.C.O.” off the Dreams Worth More Than Money LP.

While Hot 97’s Funkmaster Flex released a reference track of OVO affiliate Quentin Miller rapping Drake’s verse on “R.I.C.O.”  – as well as other songs such as “Know Yourself” and “10 Bands” – Gutta only cites his name in the credits for Meek’s debut album Dreams and Nightmares as evidence he penned for his then musical partner.

It should be noted, the Dreams and Nightmares credits listed online only mention Gutta (born Vincent Robinson) as a writer on the track “Rich & Famous.” Gutta was featured on that song as a guest performer.

Emmett Till’s Family Releases A Statement About Jay Z & Will Smith Produced HBO Miniseries

(AllHipHop News) News broke a few weeks ago that Jay Z and Will Smith are part of the production team to bring the life story of Emmett Till to HBO. The cable network plans to air a miniseries about the 14–year-old African American that was brutally murdered for whistling at a White woman in 1955.

[ALSO READ: Will Smith And Jay Z Will Produce Emmett Till Miniseries]

The family of Till has now released a statement via Facebook about the project. According to the Mamie Till Mobley Memorial Foundation, the descendants of the slain teenager are not involved in the HBO adaptation.

The statement reads:

Thank you for the wonderful notes of support and public comments since the announcement of another Emmett Till movie project. Many are asking whether the family is involved in the recently announced HBO Emmett Till miniseries to be executive produced by Jay Z and Will Smith, or if they have contacted the family.

HBO once planned to produce the authorized Emmett Till story based on Mamie Till-Mobley’s book she worked on during the last six months of her life. It seems HBO now has decided to go a different route and move away from the book option and the story authorized by our family.

The lynching of Emmett Till is attracting significant media attention these days. Our hope is that we all might walk away from the reverence of this moment with a deeper appreciation of the meaning and historical context of Emmett Till in American History; why Mamie Till Mobley wanted so very much for the world to understand the many sacrifices that were made so that we could enjoy the freedom and opportunities we do today.

Mamie Till Mobley shared her son with the world with hopes that he would never be forgotten. She would be grateful that discussions of her son Emmett continue today in the context of present-day killings of unarmed young Black men. These issues are central to the commemorative events we plan surrounding the 60th Anniversary of Emmett’s lynching beginning August 28, 2015.

While we have not heard from the producers of the HBO series on Emmett Till, we certainly hope that they, too, might join in these enlightening and inspiring events–events that will reveal the Emmett Till story as more than just a compelling narrative, but also as an essential part of our cultural awareness.
