Kendrick Lamar Explains Why He Doesn’t Know If He Can Stop Using The N-Word

(AllHipHop News) For decades, Hip Hop artists have faced criticism for using the word “n*gga” in their music. It has been one of the most heated debates in the culture. There have been calls to “bury” the word, but some artists (Black and White) have argued anyone should be allowed to say the n-word in context.

TDE’s Kendrick Lamar spoke about his own use of “n*gga” in an article with NME. “The Blacker The Berry” rapper admitted it would be difficult for him to simply remove the word from his vocabulary.

“The closest I can do to stopping is putting the root word, negus, on my album. But I don’t know if I’m there mentally to stop saying the n-word yet,” said Kendrick. “I dunno, maybe one day. That’s 27 years of reversing that word, I probably been saying that since I was one-year-old.”

The first words on K. Dot’s latest album To Pimp A Butterfly are “every n*gga is a star.” The opening line on “Wesley’s Theory” represent many members of the Hip Hop community’s repurposing of the n-word as a term of endearment.

Kendrick does switch up the lingo on the extended version of his single “i” where he offers an explanation on how the “n-word” derived from the word “negus.” The Compton emcee says on the song, “N-E-G-U-S, definition: royalty, king… N-E-G-U-S, description: Black emperor, king, ruler.” He ends “i” with, “Kendrick Lamar, by far, realest negus alive.”

50 Cent’s List Of Creditors Revealed, Rapper Owes $26 Million

(AllHipHop News) 50 Cent filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy does not mean the Hip Hop mogul is broke, but he does owe a lot of money to several different parties. TMZ has gained access to the list of 50’s creditors that was given to the bankruptcy judge.

According to court documents, the G-Unit boss owes $137,880 to Bentley, $64,909 to American Express, $1,737 to his own grandfather, and others. 50 is also on the hook for a total of $23 million from two separate lawsuits. He lost a nearly $17 million suit to Sleek Audio in 2014, and a jury recently awarded $5 million to Lastonia Leviston after she sued 50 for releasing a sex tape of her online.

“I think we’re very clear in our papers that he’s engaged in numerous tactics to delay the eventual entry of a judgment in the state court litigation,” Elizabeth Austin, Leviston’s attorney, told The Washington Post. “We believe this bankruptcy is yet another one of those tactics.”

While the legal situations play out, the public should understand exactly where 50 stands financially. Forbes calculated 50 Cent’s net worth to be close to $155 million. California bankruptcy attorney Mark Markus explained to Mashable why 50’s bankruptcy filings does not equal him hurting for money.

“In Chapter 11 in particular, one usually has many assets — in fact, Chapter 11 is used to protect those assets while repaying creditors what they would get if the assets were liquidated,” said Markus. “So those who file Chapter 11 are definitely not broke.”

Buggs Papo – “They Can’t” ft Money & Violence’s Murdah Mel

Buggs Papo is riding high off of his new EP entitled Mr BigShot. The lead track on the EP is a single called “They Can’t.” The hard hitting song displays Buggs Papo as he delivers his lyrics over some pretty stellar production. His wordplay and witty metaphors paint pictures over producer extraordinaire Hassan Shareef of Black Magic Studios beat. Equally important, the music video to the song is bold and the editing is sleek. The video also features a special appearance by “Murdah Mel” from the popular web series “Money & Violence.”

Earl Sweatshirt Calls Odd Future A “Teenage Boys Club” He Doesn’t Want To Define Him

(AllHipHop News) Up to this point Odd Future affiliates Earl Sweatshirt, Matt Martians of The Internet, and Tyler, The Creator have made it clear the California collective is not what it once was. Tyler ignited the public discussion of the end of OF with one tweet in May, Earl backed up that sentiment, and Martians expounded on the situation in an interview with AllHipHop.com.

“It’s a badge. It’s a great thing. Everything has to move on. Everything has to have closure,” said Matt last month. “I think what rose from that is what really matters. A lot of great careers spawned from that, and a lot of great careers will continue to spawn from that.”

Earl has now further explained why he wants to shed the label of Odd Future. The creator of the critically acclaimed album I Don’t Like Sh*t, I Don’t Go Outside spoke with The Guardian.

“The OF thing follows you – it’s viral – even though not one thing I’ve done in the past couple years has been focused on OF,” stated Earl. When asked if Odd Future is a family he wants to escape, the Los Angeles native added, “It’s my teenage boy club that got famous that I’m trying to not be defined by.”

Lee Daniels On “Empire” Emmy Snubs: “F*ck These Motherf*ckers” (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) The Emmy nominations came out yesterday (July 16). Fox’s megasmash Empire earned three nominations, but only one in the major acting categories (Taraji P. Henson – Best Actress In A Drama Series). What was even more surprising is that the show was locked out of the “Outstanding Drama Series” category.

Co-creator Lee Daniels addressed the snubs in a video posted to Instagram. Daniels was joined by Empire star Jussie Smollett. The 32-year-old singer/actor asked his boss to “be nice,” but Daniels still took a sarcastic shot at the Emmys.

“F*ck these motherf*ckers,” Daniels said to the camera. The producer-director returned to IG to make it clear the comments were all in fun, but he suggested the “haters shut up and go to bed.”

Empire was a ratings behemoth. The number of viewers rose every week during the series’ first season. The finale drew in the largest ratings for a new series since 2005.

J. Gillie Releases New Mixtape ‘Elmhurst Since Birth’

Released on July 15th, rapper J. Gillie’s newest mixtape ‘Elmhurst Since Birth’ is a body of work with a multifaceted sound—a mix of 90s-era hip-hop with a contemporary retouching, all presented with the artist’s signature sharp voice and distinctive energy. By creating new conversations within old structures, Gillie has the ability to earn the respect of real hip-hop heads while garnering attention from young audiences in need of more inspiring art. With its blending of styles, moods and emotions, the project feels like a breath of fresh air with undertones of nostalgia.

The intro features a young 50 Cent quote about the distortion between the hungry, ambitious youngsters in the game and the old heads who can’t accept that they didn’t live up to their aspirations; a part of the former group, J. Gillie is focused on sustained longevity in his career through a grind facilitated by his own work ethic and drive. This message leads into the single, “No Cosignz,” which presents the rapper’s desire to be successful independently as the premise of the story. In actuality this is the final scene of the movie, edited into the story as the first scene to better help the listener understand the artist behind the music and find motivation within themselves; from here, the rest of the project proceeds to explain how Gillie came to this mindset.

From, the beginning, J. Gillie raps about the heartbreaking experiences that plagued him growing up; born in Kansas and raised in Delaware, Gillie moved a lot as a child to evade his mother’s substantial drug habit and unstable environment—he was also the subject of many legal battles involving family members and the state. In addition to his upbringing, ‘Elmhurst Since Birth’ deals with pain and suffering caused by old flames, one-night stands, his harsh environment, past mistakes, and social structure, among other topics. On top of this, the rapper often incorporates stories from others which inspire him and clearly weigh on his conscience as well—these range from friends’ stories of ex-girlfriends to gritty crime tales, but all of the anecdotes are constructed with strong emotions to bring out the humanity in every story on the project.

The elements of heartache on the mixtape are interjected with optimism and encouragement on several occasions, but all of the songs on ‘Elmhurst Since Birth’ are intertwined with a strong confidence brought out by J. Gillie’s lyricism, cadence and execution, as well as his ability to turn these losses into artistic wins. Throughout the project his reactions to his hardships range from passivity and nonchalance to rage and regret, leading from retrospective storytelling to introspection as a lifestyle choice. By giving us his story in its raw format, J. Gillie is able to recognize the pain of his past and use it as fuel to reach unforeseen heights in the future.

By the end of the mixtape, J. Gillie has the clear conscience to open up doors for himself and push his brand to new levels, plus the ability to talk about his painful memories without letting them blur his focus. This has been a constant theme in Gillie’s life—in an effort to change his own destiny, the artist graduated with honors from his high school, later earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science at King’s College in PA. An avid reader, it has been a mission for Gillie to bring strong messages to the community while carving and maintaining a legacy, something that this project has potential to create.

The mixtape’s title alludes to the street in Kansas that Gillie was raised on, fitting for a project which effectively tells his personal story while promoting lyricism and positive messages within his music. In addition to bringing out the best of several eras in hip-hop, J. Gillie calls for a return to realness, avoiding counterfeit industry rules for pure-spirited music that serves several purposes and requires many talents. Currently, the rapper is in southern Florida promoting the release of his new project, as well as setting up performances for the near future.
