Petition Created To Get OutKast Added To Stone Mountain Monument Featuring Confederate Leaders

(AllHipHop News) The removal of the Confederate battle flag from the capital grounds in South Carolina has sparked discussions around the country about other monuments dedicated to the Confederacy. One of the most high-profile disputes is over a sculpture at Stone Mountain Park in Georgia.

The Atlanta area site features three Confederate leaders President Jefferson Davis, General Robert E. Lee, and General Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson engraved on the side of Stone Mountain. The NAACP has called for the sculpture to be removed. But another group is seeking to have two of Atlanta’s most accomplished musical representatives added to the state owned monadnock.

Mack Williams has launched a petition on MoveOn.org to have OutKast members Andre 3000 and Big Boi chiseled onto Stone Mountain. As of press time, the petition has collected over 4,000 signatures with a goal of 5,000.

“I believe it’s important to recognize the history and heritage of all Georgians. However, the carving of Davis, Lee, and Jackson on the side of Stone Mountain only represents a small, regrettable time in the history of the Peach State,” writes Williams. “It’s high time we added a bit more of our history and culture to this monument.”

The petition does not call for the removal of the Confederate sculpture. Williams would just like to see more carvings added to Stone Mountain.

“OutKast are two of the greatest Georgians in the history of our state. It’s about time the Empire State of the South paid proper tribute to them, while also improving a great monument and tourist attraction,” added Williams.

Big Boi has officially endorsed the idea via Twitter. The “Shutterbug” rapper included a thumbs up emoji in a tweet about the petition.

There is a long racial history connected to Stone Mountain. Ku Klux Klan rallies were once held on the grounds. Dr. Martin Luther King even mentioned Stone Mountain in his iconic 1963 “I Have A Dream” speech.

The city of Stone Mountain is now around 75% African American. Childish Gambino, La La Anthony, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, Swizz Beatz, Lloyd, Cyhi the Prynce, and numerous professional athletes once resided or attended school in the Atlanta suburb.

Remember back in May, 50 Cent accused Ross of posting his baby mama’s sex tape online and blaming 50 solely for the leak. 50 claims that Rick Ross or his camp posted that video originally. 50 says all he did was repost a link to it. When 50 filed suit against Rick Ross, he demanded that Ross be liable for any amount of money awarded to Lastonia Leviston. Ross claims he never said that he planned on leaking his baby mama’s sex tape, and all damages endured by 50 Cent are the result of his reckless actions. Young Thug Hit With Additional Charges After Police Raid His Home

(AllHipHop News) Young Thug was already charged with terrorist threats for a July 7th incident at an Atlanta mall, but the Barter 6 rapper was hit with more charges today as the result of his home being raided yesterday.

Mike Petchenik of WSB first broke the news on Twitter that Thug is also facing drug and weapons violations charges. Today the 23-year-old born Jeffery Lamar Williams had felony warrants added to his case after Sandy Springs detectives searched his residence on Wednesday. Thug was booked in the DeKalb County jail that same day.

In addition, Thug’s name came up in a separate indictment filed in Cobb County. WSB is reporting court documents state the Atlanta-based performer conspired with Cash Money Records head Bryan “Birdman” Williams to kill CMR star Lil Wayne. Neither Thug nor Birdman have been formally charged in that case.

YG Complains About Hospital Treatment The Night He Was Shot (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Last month, Compton rapper YG was rushed to the hospital after being shot at a studio. The bad turn of events did not end there. The car he was traveling got involved in an accident, and then he feels he was not treated properly once he arrived at the medical facility. The “My N*gga” performer was able to recover from his injuries, and he sat down with The Cruz Show to talk about the ordeal.

“I can’t die man – my daughter, my daughter. I just had a daughter,” recalls YG on what he was thinking that night. “I’m working on my album. I’m not ready yet. I gotta set my people up to be straight.”

According to YG, once he arrived at the hospital officials told him to fill out paperwork before he could be treated. One worker at the location recognized him, and tried to speed up the process. He was halted again when police investigators attempted to interview him about the shooting.

“I’m telling [the detectives], ‘I ain’t saying nothing. Tell the doctors come take this bullet outta my leg.’ They didn’t even know where I got hit. I’m telling them, ‘This how y’all treat people that got shot?'” YG states. “I went to the Kasier right there on Sunset. So don’t go there if you get shot, because they don’t treat you right. If I would have got hit all the way in my artery, I could have been dead.”

Akon Hosting “Passport Experience Festival” In ATL To Support #AkonLightingAfrica Campaign

(AllHipHop News) Earlier this year, international recording star Akon launched his “Akon Lighting Africa” initiative. The campaign is designed to help provide electricity to over 600 million people in Africa.

In order to help raise funds for ALA, Akon is teaming with the Passport Experience Festival this weekend. Twenty artists and DJs  – including Reggae performer Gyptian, Nigerian singer Timaya, Major Lazer’s Walshy Fire, DJ/Songwriter Bryan Michael Cox, DJ Babey Drew, DJ Speakerfoxx, and the Ying Yang Twins – will perform at Atlanta’s Centennial Olympic Park.

PXPFest was created by DJ Fully Focus. Portions of the proceeds from ticket sales will contribute to Akon Lighting Africa. Akon will be on hand to serve as the host for the event.

Young Thug & Birdman Accused Of Conspiring To Kill Lil Wayne

(AllHipHop News) The news that Birdman may have thrown a drink at Lil Wayne at a nightclub seemed drastic, but a new report suggests the Cash Money Records co-founder may have gone to more extreme measures against his former protegé.

According to Atlanta’s WSBTV, court documents claim Birdman conspired with Young Thug to try and kill Wayne. A Cobb County indictment filed in June states Thug and Birdman were involved in a RICO conspiracy to have Wayne’s tour bus shot.

The incident allegedly stems from Wayne’s attempt to leave Cash Money for lack of payments. Thug apparently threatened Wayne, and the “Stoner” rhymer’s road manager Jimmy Winfrey (aka PeeWee Roscoe) carried out that threat. According to the indictment, Winfrey was driving the vehicle involved in the shooting.

“After Atlanta Police discontinued their escort, [Winfrey] and fellow Blood Gang members entered Interstate 285 from Atlanta Road in Cobb County in pursuit of the buses occupied by [Lil Wayne’s] group,” the indictment reads. “[That’s when] the white sports car pulled beside the buses, shots were then fired into the buses from the sports car with a .40 caliber handgun and a 9mm handgun.”

Winfrey was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, making terroristic threats and acts, criminal damage, possession of a firearm by a felon, criminal gang activity, reckless conduct and discharging a weapon near the street. His next court date is scheduled for Friday, July 17.

Thug and Birdman have not been charged in the tour bus shooting.

Patchwerk Recording Studios Celebrates 20th Anniversary With Charity 5K Run/Walk

(AllHipHop News) Atlanta-based Patchwerk Recording Studios opened its doors in 1995. The facility that housed the recording sessions for 50 Cent, Beyoncé, Rick Ross, Mariah Carey, Snoop Dogg, Whitney Houston, and many others is celebrating its 20 year anniversary by giving back to the community.

Instead of organizing a party or concert event, Patchwerk is focusing on health and wellness with a 5K walk/run. The first annual IdOMUSIC 5K Run/Walk is scheduled for August 1st at 8 am. NJ Police Investigating Fetty Wap in Connection to ShopRite Cashier Assault

(AllHipHop News) Last Friday (July 10), a Paramus, NJ ShopRite cashier alleges that he was initially slapped by a female customer  before her male companions proceeded to assault him inside of the establishment, reports TMZ. The young man whose identity has yet to be released, spoke with police and conveyed his thoughts that Fetty Wap may have been one of the assailants, but he conceded that he is not convinced that the “My Way” rapper actually participated in the attack.

Even though the victim has declined to press charges for the minor injures that he sustained, if the cops identify Fetty Wap as a suspect the “Trap Queen” aficionado could still be arrested. Check out the video; is there any reason for Fetty to fret?
