Nicki Minaj Says She Has Grown As A Writer On "The Pinkprint" Album

(AllHipHop News) Nicki Minaj wants the world to know that she has stepped up her pen game on the forthcoming The Pinkprint album. The YMCMB rapper tells Rolling Stone her third studio album will be a greater artistic piece of work than her previous projects.

“It’s the best album I’ve ever done,” says Nicki.

The Pinkprint comes after 2010’s Pink Friday and 2012’s Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. Nicki’s debut album got mostly positive responses from critics, but the sequel received a majority of mixed to negative reviews. PF:RR‘s Metacritic rating is 60/100, and the album was panned by The Los Angeles Times, NME, Slant, and Consequence of Sound.

So far this year, the Queens representative has released the singles “Pills N Potions” and “Anaconda.” Both tracks have crossed the 60 million view count on YouTube with “Anaconda” raking up over 160 million views in just three weeks.

Young Money’s First Lady suggests the collective tracks on The Pinkprint will be different from what the public experienced on PF:RR.

“I don’t think any of these songs could have been on my last album,” Nicki adds. “I’ve grown as a writer. I’m braver in terms of speaking about things I didn’t feel comfortable sharing two years ago.”

Rolling Stone‘s fall music preview featuring Nicki Minaj appears in the magazine’s September 25 issue. The feature covers Kendrick Lamar and Kanye West’s respective upcoming studio albums as well.

Gucci Mane Sentenced In Aggravated Assault Case

(AllHipHop News) A week after finding out his sentence in a federal firearm case will be reduced, Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane has discovered his fate in another legal issue. According to reports, Gucci pleaded guilty for aggravated assault on Monday.

That case stemmed from a 2013 incident at an Atlanta nightclub. Gucci (born Radric Davis) was accused of striking an army staff sergeant with a bottle, leaving the victim to need stitches.

Gucci originally pleaded not guilty to the charge, but the decision to reverse his plea guarantees a three-year sentence for the assault will be served concurrently with the 39-month sentence for the gun charges.

This comes after Gucci asked for community service in August of 2013, but a judge denied the request.

Grand Jury In Michael Brown Case Extended Until 2015

(AllHipHop News) Those individuals seeking justice for Michael Brown may have to wait a little longer than expected. The grand jury reviewing whether to bring charges against police officer Darren Wilson for Brown’s killing has been extended until January 7, 2015.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the extension does not necessarily mean it will take the grand jury that long to decide on the case, but it is a possibility.

The outlet also reports the typical grand jury in St. Louis County convenes for four months. That time frame expired last week for the current jury which was assembled prior to the Brown shooting. Circuit Judge Carolyn Whittington added extra time for the panel to review the Brown case exclusively.

Wilson is able to testify if he wishes, but he is not required to take the stand in the preceding. If he does choose to testify, his lawyer cannot be in the room.

The current St. Louis County grand jury reviewing the Michael Brown case consists of nine white and three black jurors. The testimonies and evidence presented to a grand jury are kept secret.

(AllHipHop News) The annual BET Hip Hop Awards are right around the corner, and the list of rap stars that will take the stage that night has been announced. According to Billboard, the event’s host Snoop Dogg will also be one of the performers for the evening.

Other rap acts tapped to perform include Common, Birdman, DJ Premier, DJ Mustard, Rich Homie Quan, Bobby Shmurda, Young Thug, Vince Staples, Jay Electronica, Migos, YG and Rae Sremmurd. Nelly and Teyana Taylor will be among the show’s presenters.

Doug E. Fresh will join MC Lyte, LL Cool J, Salt-N-Pepa, Russell Simmons, and Grandmaster Flash as a recipient of the “I Am Hip Hop Icon Award.” The next big announcement will be which emcees will take part in the highly anticipated BET Cyphers.

The 2014 BET Hip Hop Awards will be taped on September 20 at Atlanta’s Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center. The television broadcast will premiere on the network on October 14 at 8 pm ET.

August Alsina Passes Out On Stage During Concert (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) R&B singer August Alsina collapsed on stage during his concert in New York. Footage of the 22-year-old performer falling out was uploaded to the Internet just hours after the show at Irving Plaza took place.

The New Orleans native has not addressed the incident publicly yet. The last update on his Twitter account is a post promoting his new video “No Love (Remix)” featuring Nicki Minaj.

LL Cool J Talks Not Liking Rapper-Singers, "G.O.A.T. 2" Album & More

(AllHipHop News) LL Cool J is preparing to release his next album – G.O.A.T. 2. The Hip Hop icon recently spoke with Power 99’s Rise And Good Morning Show about his next project. LL also addressed the current state of Hip Hop, and the New York native expressed he is not a big fan of rappers who sing.

“It’s a lot of artist out there that I like. You gotta remember at the end of the day I like guys that spit. I like rhymers,” said LL. “I don’t really like the half singing-rhyming thing. It’s no disrespect to nobody. That’s just not my thing.”

Of course, one of the most prominent singer-rappers in the game at the moment is Young Money’s Drake. Going off LL’s latest comments it would seem Drizzy would fall into the category of the type of music Mr. Smith is not feeling, but he did acknowledge his influence on Drake in the past.

“I basically started a section of a genre and created it and put it out there, and now lots of people are doing it. I think it’s great. The more, the better. It’s better than downing them and telling [women] they ain’t nothing,” LL told MTV in 2011. “So I’m happy for [Drake] and I’m glad he decided to go that lane, and I wish everybody the best.”

The rapper/actor did add that he has no issue with mainstream Hip Hop at the moment. He even gives a shout out to Billboard chart toppers Schoolboy Q and Kendrick Lamar.

LL also announces G.O.A.T. 2 will feature Raekwon, Murda Mook, Loaded Lux, Maino, and Uncle Murda. He says the project is for the barbershop, the hood, and the culture.

The long-time Def Jam artist also revealed the reason he is not performing at the label’s 30th Anniversary Concert is because he was not invited, but LL is not upset about the omission.

A number of high profile Hip Hop artists will perform at SSMF’s MURS 316 stage. The Saturday show will feature Bun B, Riff Raff, and Dizzy Wright. The Sunday show will feature DJ Quik, Killer Mike, and N.O.R.E.

Is Tim Dog Really Dead? The Answer Has Been Revealed

(AllHipHop News) The circumstances surrounding the death of New York rapper Tim Dog have been like an episode of a top-rated cop TV show. News broke that the former Ultra member was announced dead from diabetes complications in February of 2013, but the story did not end there.

Afterwards, there were reports Tim was alive and faked his own death in order to avoid paying a woman $19,000 for scamming her out of $32,000. A warrant for his arrest was even issued. A lack of a death certificate, newly released tracks, and his family’s refusal to speak to the media added to the speculation.

NBC is now reporting that Tim Dog is officially dead. The news outlet found the rapper’s death certificate in Atlanta, Georgia. He died in a hospice on February 14, 2013. His body was cremated by Dekalb County.

The confusion seems to stem from the fact that no one outside of Tim Dog’s immediate family knew where he was living at the time. A person’s death certificate is issued in the jurisdiction where he or she passed away, so that is the possible reason the document was difficult to find.

Kendrick Lamar's Next Album To Have "Aggression & Emotion", Few Guests

(AllHipHop News) In an interview in June, West Coast emcee Kendrick Lamar expressed his concern that Hip Hop is lacking aggression. The TDE representative is looking to step up and bring that aggressive content on his next studio album.

Rolling Stone‘s “Fall Music Preview” includes K. Dot giving details about the highly anticipated LP. Kendrick told the magazine listeners can expect “aggression and emotion” on the project. He also revealed that he has “a bunch of tracks” with mentor Dr. Dre, and he recorded with frequent collaborators Digi+Phonics.

Kendrick was open about the possible production work to appear on the album, but he did not share any information about guest appearances. As of now, the 27-year-old rap star has not worked with any other artists for the follow-up to his platinum selling good kid, m.A.A.d. city.

“I have so much to say!” said Lamar. “It’s almost selfish of me.”
