Pharrell Addresses Michael Brown Shooting, Says President Obama Needs To Go To Ferguson (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Pharrell is fighting all injustices and soundbites. In a recent interview, Pharrell stated he was disappointed in the government in the handling of Michael Brown shooting aftermath, says Michael Brown should have got out of the street when the police officer ordered and more.

In his interview with CNN’s Don Lemon, Pharrell explained how Ferguson Police officer Darren Wilson used “excessive force” due to “all those shots, where those shots were”. While he does believe Wilson deserves punitive action levied against him, the Grammy award winning producer also believes civilians feel “hunted” and should take action to avoid ending up like Mike Brown.

He’s a child. I know he’s 6’2, 6’3, something like that but he’s a child. That he was laying on the ground for hours..that kid didn’t ask to get killed. So I feel that officer should be punished. But at the same time we got to look at ourselves too. Because we are feeling hunted and we need to be able to avoid these things. Sometimes it’s unavoidable.

Pharrell states that he was “disappointed” in how the government handled the Michael Brown shooting aftermath and believes Obama should visit Ferguson due to the impending “hangover” from the race relations nightmare:

This a deeper laceration in this country. If you think that this is going to blow over, this is going to be the longest hangover in race relations ever. You want to know why? Because we thought we had got so far.

KNOCKOUT NATION: Grading Adrien Broner, Berto & Matthysse and Peter Quillin Did What???

With the boxing world gearing up for the PPV return match between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Marcos Maidana, now less than a week away. Knockout Nation is here to bring you up to speed on the week that was, and get you ready for the week to come:

Quillin Vacates

Peter Quillin

On Thursday, WBO Middleweight Champion Peter Quillin announced that he would be vacating the title. By doing so, the unbeaten fighter is walking away from a $1.4 million purse that would’ve been the largest of his career. It is not immediately apparent why the Brooklyn native chose to vacate his title, rather than facing Matt Korobov in a match where he would’ve been a considerable favorite. Two things are for certain, however, with Quillin vacating the championship the road to having a unified middleweight champion just gotten trickier, and his reputation has taken a hit, presumably with fans and promoters alike. In light of the curious decision by Quillin rumors have been flying, the most popular of which seems to be that Quillin is looking for a bout against Danny Jacobs. We’ll have to wait and see what “big plans” Quillin’s team have for him.  Gennady Golovkin had expressed interest in a fight with Quillin, but his promoter Tom Loeffler of K2 has not been shy, stating, “…Quillin’s value to us was as a champion. Without a belt there’s not a lot of value there for us.”

Roman Reigns Supreme

Roman Gonzalez

Friday morning, before most of us in the States rolled out of bed, Roman Gonzalez was in Tokyo, making history. The 27 year old flyweight became only the second Nicaraguan to win world titles in three different weight classes, the other is Alexis Arguello. He did so by defeating a top shelf opponent on his home soil. Akira Yaegashi lost his WBC flyweight title by way of a 9th round TKO. It was a fight that showed exactly why Roman Gonzalez is the best fighter you’ve never heard of. He is equally adept with both hands and has devastating punching power in both. This fight was a tribute to the action that takes place in the smaller weight divisions.  There is boxing below 135lbs and its really good.

Broner Impresses, Berto is back & The Ref robs Ortiz

Lucas M

Showtime aired an interesting night of fights on Saturday. It was a card that featured two headlining stars who should probably have been fighting each other in Adrien Broner and Lucas Matthysse. This has been a recurring theme with Showtime as of late, particularly in the stacked 140lb and 147lb divisions (The August 9th card co-headlined by Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia immediately comes to mind). Fortunately for fight fans, both weight classes currently have enough talent to keep us entertained while the top dogs figure out the politics of making the mega-fights happen.

Opening up the show was Andre Berto making his return to the ring for the first time since suffering a shoulder injury, in a defeat to Jesus Soto Karass. That injury required surgery to repair, and led to a lengthy, 14 month layoff for the former welterweight champ. In total it was only Berto’s third fight in the last three years, both prior resulting in losses. He took on Steve Upsher, and was able to outclass him without much difficulty. Berto looked sharp throughout, working behind his jab and landing good power shots, even his trademark uppercuts were on display. It wasn’t all good for Andre however, despite being in control throughout, the glaring holes in his defense are still present, and surely would’ve been exposed against a better class of fighter. Before Upsher basically stopped working in the second half of the fight he was having success getting off first and landing some combinations against the shorter Berto. Most importantly, Berto looked healthy and didn’t seem to have any issues with the surgically repaired shoulder. He may not be ready to take on the top guns at 147lbs, but he did enough last night to remind them of who he is.

Lucas Matthysse took on Roberto Ortiz next in a 140lb contest. Ortiz, a relatively unknown, undefeated Mexican fighter, entered the match with the WBC Silver Light Welterweight title and a reputation for being quite the knockout puncher himself. Many were predicting this fight to be a slugfest between two hard hitting fighters who aren’t afraid to come forward. Instead we got one of the most anti-climatic finishes in recent memory as Matthysse won in the second round via “knockout”. With :15 left in the second round Matthysse caught Ortiz with a beautiful body shot that sent the Mexican to the canvas. What happened next is really anybody’s guess. Ortiz was counted out, despite clearly reaching his feet prior to the 10 count. At first it was believed that the referee had stopped the fight, but afterwards, while refusing to comment on camera, the referee claimed that he counted him out and he did not answer the 10 count. Cool story bro.

Headlining the card, in front of his hometown crowd in Cincinnati, was Adrien “The Problem” Broner. Broner entered the bout looking to regain the momentum he had prior to his loss to Marcos Maidana at the end of 2013. Although he defeated Carlos Molina earlier this year to win the vacant WBA Light Welterweight Championship, he looked less than stellar in that bout to say the least. Broner knew that he couldn’t just win, he had to impress, and he did just that. His opponent Emmanuel Taylor was more than game, giving Broner all that he could handle throughout the fight. To his credit, this seemed to drive Broner, who put forth an inspired performance, displaying the technical brilliance he’s been praised for in the past but had seemed to get away from as of late. The fight was fought almost entirely on the inside with both fighters exhibiting a myriad of skills, neither ever getting sloppy, despite the nature of the fight. Ultimately the style of fight would prove to benefit Broner who was able to get off first and land effective combinations. Although Broner scored a knockdown in the 12th round — His first at any weight above 135lbs — that may have proven to be the difference maker on the scorecards, it was his performance in the 10th round that really told the story of the fight. After being rocked by Taylor early in the round Broner seemed to flip a switch in the last minute, unleashing a flurry of punches and aggression that showed that he was truly in it to win it. And win it he did, taking home a unanimous decision victory on the judges cards.

All three of the victorious fighters spoke towards their future goals in the ring during post-fight interviews and it was a telling story to say the least. Matthysse wants Danny Garcia, Broner wants Matthysse and Berto wants revenge (Robert Guerrero, Victor Ortiz). We’ll see who gets what they want.

Next Saturday the world will stand still for a moment. It always does when Floyd Mayweather has a fight. Across the ring will once again be Marcos Maidana, the first (and only) fighter since Jose Luis Castillo to earn a rematch with the undefeated Mayweather. Floyd however, will be facing more than Marcos Maidana, he will be taking on history, as he has ever since he publicly declared his desire to retire 50-0 and lay claim to the title of The Best Ever. It will be must see TV and Knockout Nation will be right here Monday morning to bring you the aftermath.

Throughout the summer, Luke-O has been picking up steam with a series of single and video releases – “Main Street Pt. II”, “24-7”, “All This Money” and “Cows & Crocodiles / Crocodile Rock”. Today he’s sharing the Lacoste Bo$$ project in-full with an AllHipHop mixtape premiere.

As seen on the cover of his newly release mixtape, Lacoste Bo$$, Moola Gang Ca$h Cow$ rapper Luke-O has been repping the brand since birth. “My family brought Lacoste to southwest PA,” he says. “My Uncle TJ was a partner of a clothing store named Daniels in Uniontown, PA in the 80’s. Back in the day when there was no blogs and the net wasn’t popping, you had to go to NY and see what was ‘in’ and fashionable. He took them trips and brought Lacoste back, and since we had the ill 60% family discount my parents swagged out me and my brother.”

Hip-Hop Rumors: Flo-Rida Proved To Be Father In Paternity Case

Flo-Rida better start wrapping it up with these females, seems like he’s getting hit with these accusations quite a bit. Baller Alert is reporting that the rapper did in fact father video model Natasha Georgette’s child, whom he adamantly denied.

“She took him to court while she was pregnant last year in hopes of receiving ‘good fortune support’ which is basically a special kind of child support for rich people’s kids. She said at the time she needed his help with prenatal care and other birth-related expenses. She also wants a child support order to cover medical insurance, daycare, private school expenses, summer camp, etc.

Screen Shot 2014-09-09 at 11.24.56 AM

Flo-Rida admits that he slept with Natasha multiple times, but says he wasn’t the only man she was sleeping with. He also apparently offered to pay for her abortion after finding out she was pregnant. I guess all of that doesn’t matter because a DNA test was administered and Flo is, without a doubt, the father of Natasha’s son.”

Hope he learned a valuable lesson, always keep a jimmy handy.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Drake Has A Female Ghostwriter?

All those depressing a** Drake songs we’ve grown to love, may not have been written by Drake at all.

MediaTakeout is reporting there’s another person behind all Drizzy’s sappy tales, a female who is coming forward with her accusations.

“A Toronto woman is claiming to have GHOST WRITTEN a lot of hip hop superstar Drake’s biggest tracks – at least the ‘SENSITIVE’ ones.

According to an MTO snitches – Drake has been using a Toronto woman, to help him write his songs for the past 3 years. MTO’s snitch tells us that problems ensued, when Drake didn’t PAY HER properly. Now she plans on filing a multi-million dollar lawsuit and seeks to prevent him for performing multiple songs from Take Care, Thank Me Later & Nothing was the Same.

MTO’s snitch explains, “[The alleged ghostwriter] kept her mouth shut but the slander got out of hand and now she’s demanding a big payoff. . . . [Drake’s] friends started s### talking her.” And it gets even BETTER. MediaTakeOut.com’s snitch adds, “She’s hiring Gloria Allred’s law firm.””

Once again someone has went against the grain with August Alsina.

This time the incident took place during an appearance at a North Carolina nightclub. The club promoter wanted Alsina to step on to the mic and share a few words with fans who came out to see him that night, but the crooner wanted just to “vibe” and “kick it.”

Peep the video below courtesy of The Shade Room of what popped off next:

I’m sorry but I’m siding with the promoter here. Fans came out to party and see you , the least you can do is get ya a** off the grain and say what up to the people. SMH.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Tyga Down With The Underage Swirl?

Tyga and Blac Chyna have been broken up for about a moth now, word is he’s already made some questionable moves.

A few blogs have reported that the YMCMB rapper is now dating Kimmy Cakes little sister, Kylie Jenner. Now that would be fine IF Jenner was of age BUT she’s only 17-years-old.

Last month Tyga threw a lavish party for the teen at his house and recently the two were spotted at an L.A. restaurant coupled up.

Entertainment Wise reports:

“Kylie Jenner appears to be spending an increasing amount of time with her rapper friend Tyga these days, with the pair spotted leaving a restaurant together on Sunday evening along with the reality star’s older sister Kendall Jenner, fuelling speculation about the nature of their friendship.

Tyga, 24, was seen getting into the back of the car alongside Kendall and seemed to be rather pleased with himself, no doubt after spending the evening with two stunning ladies.

Following the trio’s dinner date, Kylie shared a cryptic message which will only fuel ongoing speculation that she and Tyga have a particularly close friendship, writing: “Try getting to know someone before making assumptions.”

Tyga is denying the rumors and took to Twitter to tell the world that their relationship is strictly friendship.

Ray Rice's Wife Defends Her Husband, Says Media Is Wrong For Releasing Elevator Assault Video

(AllHipHop News) Ride or die is the foundation of love and delusion. Earlier today (September 9th), Ray Rice’s wife, Janay Rice posted a message on her personal Instagram account defending her husband following the release of him assaulting her in a hotel elevator.

The initial security footage of Janay’s physical altercation with her husband surfaced in late February and only depicted her husband dragging her unconscious body out of the Atlantic City hotel Revel. Yesterday (September 8th), new footage emerged from inside the elevator which clearly showed Ray Rice striking his wife twice with closed fists, knocking her out. In her Instagram message, Janay accuses the media of releasing the new footage 7 months later in order to gain ratings:

To make us relive a moment in our lives that we regret everyday is a horrible thing. To take something away from the man I love that he has worked his a.. off for all his life just to gain ratings is horrific. THIS IS OUR LIFE!

Rice was released from the Baltimore Ravens hours and suspended from the NFL indefinitely yesterday after the footage was released. Janay reassures Ravens fans that the Rice family still has love for them:

Just know we will continue to grow & show the world what real love is! Ravensnation we love you.

The NFL responded to the footage claiming they were not privy to the assault video from inside the elevator since “security for Atlantic City casinos is handled by the New Jersey State Police” and the video was not made available. The New Jersey State Police claim they never had the video and the Atlantic City Police Department handled it.

(AllHipHop News) The epic 2013 Kanye West-Sway Calloway interview birthed the now classic internet memes “You ain’t got the answers Sway” and “It ain’t Ralph though.” The person Ye was referencing in the latter comment, designer Ralph Lauren, has finally spoken about the infamous shout out.

In an interview with Style.com’s editor-in-chief Dirk Standen, Lauren expressed his appreciation for Kanye turning his name into a positive adjective.

The article reads:

DS: I don’t know if you heard this, but there was a famous radio interview that Kanye West did. He was talking about this clothing line that the host of the show owned, and he said, “It ain’t Ralph, though.” The idea being, it’s not Ralph Lauren level, that Ralph is now a byword for a certain …

RL: Oh. [ laughs] So an adjective. It’s very Ralph.

DS: It ain’t Ralph level.

RL: That’s very cool. Well, that’s great. If I were to cater to Kanye, he would know that I’m catering to him. The fact that I make what I make—he gets it. He gets the quality and he respects it. And I think that’s the key, why I work all the time is to do that. That’s the fun.

(AllHipHop News) Cassidy is set to battle Dizaster later this year. But when the Philadelphia emcee was asked about possibly going against Diz’s friend Daylyt, Cass expressed Day’s recent comments about wanting to have sex with Diddy would be a deal-breaker for that bout.

“If the chicken right. After this battle, if he could double this chicken or triple this chicken – I might say if he could bring it to the table,” added Cass. “It don’t matter. Any n***a could get it. Most of these n***gas be gay on the low anyway… At the end of the day, it don’t matter. You come in the ring, it’s gonna go down the same way.”
