Hip-Hop Rumors: What Childless Old Schooler May Be Having A Kid?

Ahhhhhh…..do you know who this is?

If he was a rapper in Westeros would he then be Grandmaester Melle Mel?

That dude is Grandmaster Melle Mel and he’s in the Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame for his early work in Hip-Hop as a part of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. To my knowledge, Mel doesn’t have any kids to carry on the great lineage. Now in his 50’s, a crazy rumor just came out of the box.

Word on the streets is that Melle Mel was expecting a kid! Over the weekend, he apparently had dinner with a pregnant woman and they toasted. But, my sources are saying this is purely false. I don’t even know where these rumors come from.

EXCLUSIVE: Rockie Fresh Talks New Album, Joining The Grammy Board + More (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Rockie Fresh released the most projects from Maybach Music Group in 2013 and is already gearing up to continue his prolific streak in 2014. In an EXCLUSIVE interview with AllHipHop, the Chicago native spoke on what has changed about him for his new album, relationship with Rick Ross and reveals his involvement with the Grammy’s.

In 2013, Fresh released Electric HighwayThe Birthday Tape and his collaborative mixtape with Casey Veggies, Fresh Veggies. Fresh says the major difference between his upcoming major label debut album will be the storytelling and promises to do some acting for the accompanying music video. Fresh attributes the focus on storytelling for his album to the sudden changes in his life since signing to Maybach Music Group in the summer of 2012:

Due to the way I like to work on my mixtapes it’s supposed to be current, which is why I always release a project every year. It’s just that in 2013 it was more going on in my life than ever before, so it was just a lot of different events that I can speak on. There’s been major moments in my life…defining moments, that I have yet to speak on because I have been saving them for the album.

Fresh also revealed that he recently joined the Grammy Board and gave his opinion on Macklemore beating Kendrick Lamar for Best Rap Album at this year’s Grammy’s:

Macklemore did his thing. Kendrick did his thing. I also feel like Drake had a solid album and Yeezus was dope too. It could’ve went either way, but it went the way it went and I think Kendrick also had a really dope performance at the Grammy’s too. So, he got his just due.

Rockie Fresh is now touring with G-Eazy on the These Things Happen tour and will be in New York City on March 27th at Irving Plaza.

AHH ALBUM REVIEW: Schoolboy Q’s Oxymoron

First things first, if you are copping this album with the intention of experiencing some profound intellectual awakening, you should immediately put your hands on the wheel and swerve all the f### away. Oxymoron listening sessions (especially in the whip) will no doubt produce a visceral experience that will slap the Kufi right off your dome. The hallmark of a superior group is that each member brings something fresh to the table, and while Ab Soul and Kendrick are rightfully regarded for their conscious lyrical content, the self-proclaimed man of the year is more concerned with t######, ass, and getting hands in the air. On Oxymoron, there is a plethora of that ignorant sh*t we love, magnified by beats that  bang.

Schoolboy triumphs in an arena where many corny ass dudes fail because of his fearless approach to the art of creating so-called vain content; a rapper who truly spits whatever is on his mind, like on “Gangsta,” where Schoolboy states: “My Grandma showed me my first strap” not even a full 2 minutes into the album. The most sophisticated way to describe Schoolboy’s blatant rapping style is like the homie sitting at KFC going h.a.a.m. on a bucket of chicken with no regard as to how his appearance comes across to others, especially females, like on “Studio,” where Schoolboy speaks about his love interest with the sensitivity of a gentleman and a stoner.

Even though there is an abundance of features, they surely don’t detract from Q’s presence on the album. It may be of no surprise that Kurupt (“The Purge”) and Raekwon (“Blind Threats”) come through on their respective joints, but the best collaboration is by far “Groveline Pt. 2,” where Schoolboy and Suga Free make a certified jam gloriously laced with a g-funky ass feel.

While real thinkers will inevitably crucify Ab Soul’s TDE brother for his lack of “conscious” content, there is no doubt that Q is definitely serious about his craft. Songs like “Break The Bank” and “Hoover Street” are introspective departures from the more radio-geared tracks featured on the album. While I have no doubts that Kendrick’s next official release could potentially provide a solution for world hunger buried within the musical confines, in the meantime Oxymoron is a damn good soundtrack for fun frivolities and all things whip-related.

Schoolboy Q Performs “Oxymoron” Songs LIVE For The 1st Time (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Tomorrow (February 25th), Schoolboy Q will release his debut album Oxymoron, but last night (February 23rd) New York City got the first performances. As apart of NPR Music’s First Listen Live, Schoolboy Q ran through songs from Oxymoron at Le Possion Rouge.

A few traditions of a Schoolboy Q performance include copious amounts of marijuana being smoked and constant reminders to the crowd to monitor their energy level as Q is only as hype as the crowd is. The latter was not a problem for vast majority of the show as songs such as “Yay Yay”(accompanied by Q jumping in the crowd) and “Banger (MOSHPIT)” kept the energy at a fever pitch.

While this was a concert, it was also a forum for Q to preview some unheard music from Oxymoron and was seen numerous times just vibing to the records with his eyes closed. One of the best moments was when Q performed album standout “Hoover Street”:

Always the jokester, Q admitted to not having a set list prepared before he instructed one of his handlers to “bring the blind man to the stage” in reference to Ab Soul joining him to perform “Druggy With Ho*s”. Before Soul left, Q made sure the crowd wished him a Happy Birthday but the celebration that night was all for Q, whom in 24 hours will enter his hat into the race for Rap Album of the Year.
