Schoolboy Q Performs “Oxymoron” Songs LIVE For The 1st Time (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Tomorrow (February 25th), Schoolboy Q will release his debut album Oxymoron, but last night (February 23rd) New York City got the first performances. As apart of NPR Music’s First Listen Live, Schoolboy Q ran through songs from Oxymoron at Le Possion Rouge.

A few traditions of a Schoolboy Q performance include copious amounts of marijuana being smoked and constant reminders to the crowd to monitor their energy level as Q is only as hype as the crowd is. The latter was not a problem for vast majority of the show as songs such as “Yay Yay”(accompanied by Q jumping in the crowd) and “Banger (MOSHPIT)” kept the energy at a fever pitch.

While this was a concert, it was also a forum for Q to preview some unheard music from Oxymoron and was seen numerous times just vibing to the records with his eyes closed. One of the best moments was when Q performed album standout “Hoover Street”:

Always the jokester, Q admitted to not having a set list prepared before he instructed one of his handlers to “bring the blind man to the stage” in reference to Ab Soul joining him to perform “Druggy With Ho*s”. Before Soul left, Q made sure the crowd wished him a Happy Birthday but the celebration that night was all for Q, whom in 24 hours will enter his hat into the race for Rap Album of the Year.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Luda Flips The Script On Baby Mom

Luda was looking kind of crazy when he was found to have cheated on his girlfriend who I think he plans to marry. Well, the baby moms, Tamika Fuller, was looking for $15k a month in child support. Luda argued in court that he didn’t have that kind of money. Then, Luda got the payments all the way down to something like $7,000 a month (I don’t know how he did that!). But, here is the catch. According to TMZ, Ludacris is now looking for full custody of the 2-year-old baby girl. He’s arguing that he’s an active daddy to his older daughter and this means he can do it full time. On top of that, he’s asked the judge that the chick should actually pay him child support. WOW. Luda reportedly told a judge that his money slowed all the way down with Fast and Furious was halted due to Paul Walker’s death. I wonder what the character of Fuller is…just in general, this seems like its about to get ugly.

(AllHipHop News) The relationship between the Grammys and Hip Hop has often times been a strained one. The fact that a lot of the top artists in the genre have never won a gilded gramophone has some fans scratching their heads.

“I like that the Grammys nominated me,” said Nas. “I know the hugest platform for music is the Grammys, it matters. . . but something that huge is never gonna get it right. So it’s okay. It gives me the opportunity to wear a nice suit on a red carpet.”

Jermaine Dupri Hit With $1 Million Lawsuit

(AllHipHop News) So So Def Recordings founder Jermaine Dupri Mauldin is facing a $1 million lawsuit. Radar Online reports that Dupri is being sued by his former business partner Eddie Weathers for failing to turn over profits on a merger deal involving Dieniahmar Music LLC.

[ALSO READ: Jermaine Dupri Files Counterclaim Against SunTrust Bank’s $2 Million Lawsuit]

Weathers claims that he and the Atlanta-based producer created the company together in 2005, and he owns 50% of the copyright interests in the Dieniahmar catalogue. Weathers also says when Dupri signed a co-publishing deal with EMI Music the following year he was not named as a co-owner.

According to court documents, this omission cost Weathers hundreds of thousands of dollars in royalties. He was supposedly expected to get 50% of the profits but alleges all the money from EMI went to Dupri and his business manager.

After Dupri hired his new business manager, Willie Carter, in 2011, Weathers states he contacted Carter and EMI about his unpaid royalties. The docs state over the course of several years, Weathers attempted to get his cut of the money from Carter, but he had yet to get all his back royalties.

The suit also claims that he never received his portion of the sale of Dieniahmar to EMI in 2013. Weathers alleges he was owed $238,000 from the sale, but he was only given $10,000 from Dupri.

The civil case was filed in Fulton County, Georgia. Dupri, EMI/Sony/ATV, Dieniahmar, and Carter are all named as defendants.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Did TMZ Blame The Black Panthers For Zimmerman’s Death?

Whoa! Whoa! George Zimmerman ain’t dead! But there is a price on his head. But, this price on his head is new. There are a lot of people that justifiably feel that George Zimmerman got a way with killing a teen. So, he ain’t safe in these streets. Recently GZ had to get the hell out of Miami because there were threats on his life. GZ tried to go to the beach (really dude???) with his girl, her kid and his son (Really, family?) and tried to have a family outing. Somebody said there was 10 stacks on his head. That’s like a real number! But, TMZ’s report somehow tried to link the NEW Black Panther Party with this seeming bounty on Zimmy’s dome piece. Not fair. The video they showed was from 2012. LOL! Come on. This new case could very well be a bleeding heart liberal vigilante.

I’m not going to run the video, because it has nothing to do with present day.

Ron Artest’s Brother Blasts The New York Knicks On Twitter

Screenshot 2014-02-22 12.36.43

(AllHipHop News) Ron Artest may have changed his last name to World Peace but his brother seems to be just fine at war. Today (February 22nd) Daniel Artest took to his personal Twitter account to air out his grievances with how the New York Knicks have treated his brother, Metta World Peace and reveals his evaluation of the Knicks as an organization.

The 31 year old former basketball prodigy was “disappointed” in the playing time his brother received and compared the Knicks organization to World Peace’s prior team, the Los Angeles Lakers. Artest even alleged that World Peace once warned him that the New York Knicks Public Relations department were monitoring his Twitter activity:

The only members of the New York Knicks organization that Artest called out by name were James Dolan (owner of New York Knicks) and Mike Woodson (New York Knicks head coach). Artest accused Woodson of being a “yes man” and jokingly alleged that Dolan was being extorted:

This comes less than a hour after World Peace tweeted that the New York Knicks were working to buyout his contract and release him:

Metta World Peace signed a two year deal with the New York Knicks this past summer worth $1.6 million per season. He has only played in 29 of the 56 games the Knicks have played this season and is averaging 13.4 minutes and 4.8 points per game.

50 Cent Compares His New Deal To Birdman’s Cash Money Records Deal

(AllHipHop News) 50 Cent probably became the biggest independent Hip Hop artist with his new deal at Caroline/Capitol/UMG and is following in the footsteps of another great independent businessman. For the first time since he announced his departure from Interscope Records, 50 Cent discusses details of his new deal and how it was supposed to happen.

According to his recent interview with Forbes, 50 Cent says that his deal at Caroline/Capitol/UMG is similar to Birdman’s Cash Money Records deal with Universal Music Group. Birdman’s Cash Money Records gives only “7% of wholesale per album to Universal in exchange for distribution and support” according to the article.

[ALSO CHECK OUT: 50 Cent Leaves Interscope Records, New Album Coming June 3rd]

50 Cent still owed Interscope Records one more record under his contract but was able to leave the label without making the album or paying Interscope. 50 says usually this rarely happens for artists, but due to his relationship with Interscope powerhouses, Eminem and Dr. Dre, 50 is a “special case”:

I’m a special case and situation. It’s also because of the leverage of having the strong relationships with Eminem and Dr. Dre. They don’t want me to be uncomfortable. They value our friendship to the point that they would never want [to jeopardize] it over that little bit of money.

The biggest difference between 50 Cent’s Interscope deal and his Caroline/Capitol/UMG deal is the creative control over his release of new music and music videos. 50 says with Carolione/Capitol/UMG “it’s having the ability to do that versus, ‘It’s out of the question.'”

Pop Star Lily Allen Calls Album Sheezus; Inspired By Kanye West

(AllHipHop News) Kanye West is now inspiring the pop world in a new manner, as he’s influenced the name of the new album by Lily Allen.

The UK pop singer’s new album is called Sheezus, a nod to West’s 2014 opus Yeezus.

She made the announcement yesterday right before performing her new song, “Air Balloon.”

Kanye’s album is a play on Jesus, the son of God in the Christian Bible. In other cultures, Jesus is considered a prophet.

“It’s a confident title choice — and a little nod to Kanye West,” Allen said in an upcoming interview on “The Graham Norton Show.” Allen didn’t expound on how it was important to name her whole album after another album.

Interestingly enough, incarcerated rapper Remy Ma used the name Shesus Khryst on a 2007 mixtape. Kanye West has not commented on the Lily Allen revelation, nor whether or not he was inspired by Remy.

Stevie J To Appear In Court Over $1 Million Of Unpaid Child Support

(AllHipHop News) Another day and another reality TV star is called out for lack of child support. Today (February 21), Steven A. “Stevie J” Jordan was served a subpoena to appear in Family Court over unpaid child support payments.

Stevie was served the subpoena at his new restaurant, “Sleazy & Zino” by Project Child Support, a foundation which helps custodial parents with collections. The subpoena stipulates that Stevie must provide a recent pay stub, W-2 wage and tax documents with most recent filed federal and state income tax returns. This stipulation could change the conditions of his child support payment as Bennett, in an interview with The Urban Daily in November, alleged that Stevie was using duplicitous tactics to avoid paying more child support:

Another thing is that a lot of his monies were being kept in businesses. When you change the name, it’s hard to continue to track those businesses. He changes the business name every two years. Also, he moves money and puts it in other peoples’ names. That’s what I think is happening. That’s what I’ve come up with because he does have companies.

Back in October of 2013, Carol Bennett sued Stevie J for over $1 million in back taxes and accused him of missing over 160 payments by November of 2013. In December, Stevie J denounced the lawsuit in an interview with Sister 2 Sister ion the grounds that she made no mention of suing him when they were together two weeks prior:

Nah! I mean let me know what’s going on. Let me know the play. I didn’t know the play. It’s just like, ‘Okay. I thought we was cool. I just hit you with some racks and some bands!

Ice Cube: My Son Was Rapping “Straight Outta Compton” At 2

(AllHipHop News) The N.W.A biopic will begin shooting in April but one of the possible actors has been practicing for this role since he was a child. In an interview with The Guardian, Ice Cube says that he wants his son to play him in

While Cube admits that he wants his 22 year old son O’Shay Jackson Jr to assume his role in the upcoming movie, it’s his 21 year old son, Darrel Jackson who was immersed into his father’s music early:

My son Darrel could recite Straight Outta Compton at two years old. He loved it! You can expose your kids to anything as long as you sit there and explain it to them.

As of January, unknown writer Jonathan Herman was tapped as the writer of the biopic, however Cube says that may not still be the case as he describes the movie’s ambitions:

We’re getting the script tight and we’re starting to cast. Hopefully we’ll start shooting in April. We’ve had a few different writers; we’re still working that out. We’re going for a dramatic story that encompasses hip-hop, dope-dealing, Reaganomics, Aids, LAPD, rap feuds, FBI, PMRC, the Parental Advisory stickers on the records … all of it.
