(AllHipHop News) 9th Wonder is a professor, a producer, a huge Duke fan and possesses ample Hip Hop knowledge. During his appearance on Cipha Sounds and Peter Rosenberg’s Juan Epstein podcast, he spoke on missed Jay Z collaboration, differences between Drake and Phonte and more.
9th Wonder rummaged through his encyclopedic mind of Hip Hop knowledge and gave the date he first played beats for Jay Z: September 20th, 2003, less than a month before The Black Album was released. According to 9th, during his first session with Jay Z, he played him 20 of the 150 beats he had ready and claims that Jay Z wanted the beat for “Lovin’ It”, which ended up becoming Little Brother’s first single off of their sophomore album The Minstrel Show.
When describing his former groupmate Phonte,9th had nothing but the highest praise as he called the MC “one of the best, if not the best rapper in the last decade.” After simply saying that “Young Money” was the difference between Drake garnering mainstream success as opposed to Phonte, 9th Wonder explained the mechanics behind mainstream music :
Young Money created a platform for Drake to have that platform to get to a larger audience. Once you get to that particular platform of being mainstream, you know, you are being exposed to a bunch of people who dont matter what you sounds like. Kendrick Lamar is a classic example. How many people out of the people that bought his album really understand Kendrick Lamar? We can say maybe 200, 250 thousand.

(AllHipHop News) Thanks to Superior Court Judge James R. Brandlin, Chris Brown will be able to remain in rehab and not be sent to jail. Billboard reports Los Angeles Deputy District Attorney Mary Murray filed a motion with the court to have Brown placed in jail and face a probation violation hearing for his assault case in Washington, DC.

Murray claimed that Brown should be taken into custody because he is an “increasingly violent danger to society.” Brown’s lawyer, Mark Geragos, argued that his client has not had any further incidents since the last hearing in December and the court should wait for the resolution in the D.C. case before reviewing evidence involved with that situation.
The judged ruled that the R&B singer could stay at the rehabilitation facility because he was reportedly making good progress with the treatment. Probation officials say he has “a more serious and responsible demeanor” since checking into rehab.
Brown will have to return to the L.A. court February 28th for an update. The D.C. case is set to resume on February 20th.

(AllHipHop News) Vinny Guadagnino may end up being remembered for nothing more than the debauchery of MTV’s Jersey Shore, but that does not seem to be a bad legacy.
At Cipha Sounds’ Take It Personal, Vinny spoke about how Lil Wayne professed his love for Jersey Shore in one of his first interviews after serving eight months in jail for gun possession back in 2010. In the interview with Angie Martinez on Hot 97 back in March of 2011, Wayne attributed Vinny’s support for him while in jail as a catalyst for his love for the show:
On the real, I just started watching Jersey Shore. You can ask them, I’m mad I missed out. And then the other day Vinny had on a “Free Weezy” shirt, I rocks with Jersey Shore, man.
Not all of Young Money are as inviting of the reality TV star as Lil Wayne. According to Vinny, his first time meeting Lil Wayne included a bit of shade from Nicki Minaj, an occurrence that Cipha Sounds says he has shared with the female MC.
Check out Vinny explain Lil Wayne’s Jersey Shore love, Nicki Minaj’s diss and the improv actors take his story and turn it into comedy gold:

#Blacklippastor coming soon…#TDE
— dangeroo kipawaa TDE (@dangerookipawaa) February 3, 2014
The last album from the self-described “Black Lip Bastard” was 2012’s Control System. The independent LP featured fellow Black Hippy members Schoolboy, Kendrick Lamar, and Jay Rock. It had appearances by Danny Brown, Jhené Aiko, BJ the Chicago Kid, and Alori Joh as well.
If Ab-Soul’s Black Lip Pastor is next in line from TDE, then that just leaves possible projects from Kendrick, Jay Rock, SZA or a compilation for the remainder of the year.
