Casting Agency & Studio Issue Apology For "Straight Outta Compton" Casting Call Notice

(AllHipHop News) A casting notice for the upcoming N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton sparked controversy for language many perceived as being racially insensitive and stereotypical.

The casting call ranked potential actresses into four different categories based on attractiveness, skin color, and hair. The lowest ranked group was to include African-American women with medium to dark skin tone and be “poor, not in good shape.”

The agency responsible for the posting has now issued an apology via Facebook. Kristan Berona of Sande Alessing Casting wrote:

I’ve been wanting to say this for two days and now I can.

I would like to sincerely apologize for recently posting a casting announcement that used offensive language to recruit women for a film our agency is working on. My intention was not to offend anyone and I’m so deeply sorry for not realizing the insensitivity in its content.

Universal Pictures, the studio producing Straight Outta Compton, also issued a statement about the casting call notice. The Hollywood Reporter published Universal’s statement:

Universal Pictures and the filmmakers for ‘Straight Outta Compton’ did not approve and do not condone the information in this casting notice. We regret and sincerely apologize for being in any way associated with the offensive descriptions it contained.

(AllHipHop News) The feud between 50 Cent and Slowbucks continues. The latest round of attacks come in the form of Instagram posts. Slowbucks fired first with subliminal IG picture. The photograph featured the Slow Bucks Over Everything (SBOE) crew hanging out at 50’s old Queens stomping grounds.

The recent 50/SBOE dispute began when Fiddy took issue with Slowbucks for posting a picture with 50’s son. The situation then exploded at Hot 97’s Summer Jam concert when Slowbuck’s chain was snatched while he was on stage. That resulted in press conferences, allegations of snitching, and diss tracks.

Dame Dash Blasts Kanye West For Being Disloyal (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Dame Dash’s 2014 public statements have been mostly occupied with taking shots at what he calls “culture vultures” in Hip Hop, but the mogul turned his attention to one of his former Roc-A-Fella brethren in a recent interview. While speaking with Shade 45, Dame called out Kanye West for not being more supportive of the Roc co-founder Kareem “Biggs” Burke after his incarceration.

I’m a little tight with Kanye because he hasn’t reached out to Biggs. I don’t like that s**t. So, Kanye, holla at me. I don’t like that s**t… Biggs was the one that was like, ‘Yo, Dame. Pay attention to what Kanye’s doing. Make sure you send him that music.’ No one’s reaching back. Certain n***as have, that’s why I’m not calling everybody out, but Kanye hasn’t. And he hasn’t checked on his kids. He hasn’t checked on his family. No trial. And the s**t I’m hearing him complain about is irrelevant based on the fact that he doesn’t look back to the people that helped him. So period, until he holla at me – we gotta have a conversation. Period.

Kareem “Biggs” Burke pled guilty to conspiring to distribute more than 100 kilos of marijuana in 2012. He was sentenced to 5 years in prison. Biggs played a huge part in the founding of Roc-A-Fella along with Dash and flagship artist Jay Z in 1995. Kanye was brought onto the roster in the early 2000’s.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Has Floyd Mayweather Increased Security? Did He F**k Up Messing With T.I.?

So, Floyd Mayweather said something that he probably should NOT have – or at least it sounded like it! Remember he not only called T.I. a “b**ch,” but he seemed to say “I was f###### his b####. Money maker gonna make it do what it do, baby.” However, the man known as “Money” recanted the next day – UBER QUICKLY! The sources I know are suggesting strongly that Mayweather is (or his team) are seriously concerned that this whole thing could go completely LEFT. There have been some talks that T.I. has forced Mayweather to increase security or that he will. A bunch of people think that T.I. is on some Cosby stuff now that he’s all on TV and whatever. But, he ain’t. Tip is still super thorough out in “the world.”

I think there could very well be some truth to this, based on the expeditious speed by which Money May respectfully responded. A wise man once said:

“They keep us talking, but if we stop talking about them then they should worry!” -illseed.

Signs The World Is Coming To An End: NYPD Kills Asthmatic Father Of 6, Cop Striped.

I thought the NYPD was headed in the right direction, but I see some things have NOT changed in the city of big dreams. I see they need to be called the city of broken hope, because there doesn’t seem to be any hope for them. A 43-year-old Black man apparently was repeatedly harassed by the police and spoke out to them. And they then proceeded to choke the life out of him. He repeatedly complained that he couldn’t breath but they ignored his pleas. Fortunately the entire ordeal was recorded on somebody’s camera phone. Thankfully! The irony of this is he was breaking UP a fight when they came around.

RELATED: Read about the protest march for Eric Garner.

The officer that put him in the chokehold has been striped of his badge and gun. They need to strip him of his freedom and arms.

As you can imagine, there are protest marches underway. I don’t know what other action can be taken, but I would like to see something more substantial happen.

Here is a report from InfoWars that runs it all the way down.

Eric Garner, a 43-year-old father of six, was tackled by police and immediately placed in a choke following a brief argument outside a local beauty supply store.

Garner, who suffers from asthma, can be heard pleading for help as more officers arrive and begin piling on top of him.

“I can’t breathe!” Garner says repeatedly.

Face first on the ground, Garner begins to lose consciousness as a seperate officer can be seen pressing his face into the concrete.

“Everybody back up!” an officer suddenly screams.

Noticing Garner’s lifeless body, police step back as another officer attempts to wake him.

“There’s something wrong with him,” a woman says.

Likely realizing they just murdered an innocent man, police begin ordering people to step back from the scene.

The video’s author, 22-year-old Ramsey Orta, described the incident in detail to the New York Daily News.

“They jumped him and they were choking him. He was foaming at the mouth,” Orta said. “And that’s it, he was done. The cops were saying, ‘No, he’s OK, he’s OK.” He wasn’t OK.”

According to one officer, Garner was approached for allegedly selling untaxed cigarettes, not for breaking up a fight.

Garner’s wife, Esaw, told The News that she wasn’t alerted to her husband’s fate until she arrived at the hospital.

“I saw him with his eyes wide open and I said, ‘Babe, don’t leave me, I need you.’ But he was already gone,” Esaw said. “When I kissed my husband this morning, I never thought it would be for the last time.”

Meek Mill To Stay Locked Up Until September

(AllHipHop News) A judge has rejected Meek Mill’s request to get out of jail early, which was submitted through his lawyers.

The rapper has been in jail since July 11 after violating the terms of probation rooted in a 2009 gun conviction.

The judge rejected a request to have an emergency hearing that was an effort to get the 27-year-old rapper out of jail.

“All I’m asking for is a hearing to learn why [his jailing] is constitutional and they won’t even give me that,” Meeks lawyer, Christopher Warren, said yesterday. “The last thing I want to do is go running to another judge to tell another judge what to do. But we have no choice,”

Meek will have to file a request through his lawyers that will have the court go to a higher level judge to override the original judge’s deception.

Defense lawyers for Meek intend to argue that Meek didn’t receive advance notice of the previous infractions.

EXCLUSIVE: Wes Jackson Accuses MTV Of Racially Biased Coverage Of Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) The 10th annual Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival was a celebration of unity, the hangover is not as pleasant. Today (July 18th) Brooklyn Bodega President Wes Jackson and Head of Marketing Jules Pierrot discuss their accusations of MTV Two days after the 10th Annual Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival MTV music journalist Rob Markman posted an interview with Mac Miller about performing with Jay Electronica over the weekend. Jackson took exception to the original article not mentioning the Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival by name:

The article now includes the Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival, however Jackson accuses MTV of racially biased coverage of the festival itself over their coincidental choice of interview subject:

So, the one time in 10 years I get one white rapper and MTV’s like ‘Oh, let’s talk to him.’ But,I never seen you call Torae. Kweli was there. [J.] Cole was there. Jay Elec was still in town. Yo, why didn’t you call me? Why you didn’t call Jules? Why didn’t you call Tatiana? Why didn’t you call Ebony? Because this is one of the few organizations that are flooded with Black people.

Following the publication of the article, Jackson initially blamed Markman for “questionable” journalism, but in this interview admitted that he does not believe Markman to be a cause of the problem. However, Jackson supports Dame Dash’s  “over run by people with no respect for the culture”

We are fooling ourselves if we don’t think there are tons of white people at the control that would much rather push Mac Miller out there than Jay Electronica. I mean, come on. If you a 50 year old white dude at MTV and you got a choice: we can get the eccentric dude with gold fronts, who’s a Katrina refugee rocking an F.O.I. uniform. Or we get the smacked white boy. You know they’re making these choices.

Jackson recently self-published Ten Years Fresh: The Story of the Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival exploring the history of creating the yearly music event. Paperback available at LuLu. Check out PART ONE of AllHipHop’s interview with Brooklyn Bodega:

Los Angeles Clippers' Head Coach Says It's Hard To Recruit Players Because of Donald Sterling

(AllHipHop News) Uncertainty in basketball is purgatory on Earth for some coaches. In a recent interview, Los Angeles Clippers Head Coach and President of Basketball Operations Doc Rivers explains how Donald Sterling’s current ownership battle has hurt Clippers’ recruitment.

NBA free agency began on July 1st and Clippers have been able to sign a few players including free agents Jordan Farmar, Spencer Hayes and their draft pick CJ Wilcox. Two months before the start of free agency, NBA Commissioner banned Donald Sterling from participating in any basketball operations for the Clippers. With Sterling currently fighting the forced sale of the Clippers to former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, Rivers informed reporters on Monday (July 14th) that  the uncertainty of whom the Clippers’ owner is has hurt the team in recruiting players:

It has hurt us some this summer. You go in to talk to a free agent and most guys, teams will bring their owner. I go in, looking like this, by myself. I don’t know what effect that has had but that’s not been great for us

While meetings with Ballmer are not allowed, Rivers admits that two have had accidental “bump-ins” with his soon-to-be new boss. Los Angeles Clippers’ Head Coach Says It’s Hard To Recruit Players Because of Donald Sterling
