Legendary Singer Ronnie Spector Calls Kanye West “A D**k”

(AllHipHop News) Kanye West definitely has legions of fans around the world, but apparently one former member of 1960’s girl group The Ronettes is not one of them. Ronnie Spector gave an interview with Noisey and the 70-year-old vocalist had a few choice words to say about Mr. West.

“He’s a d**k. I’m sorry. I don’t like him. I’m just being honest,” said Spector.

The conversation led to Kanye after Spector acknowledged her appreciation of Halle Berry and Jennifer Garner’s attempts to protect their children from the paparazzi. When the interviewer mentioned West’s drive to pass anti-pap laws, Spector expressed her feelings about the Chicago rapper.

“No kidding, good for him,” said Spector. “I am not a fan of Kanye West. I don’t mind Kim, but I just don’t like that guy. I’m not a fan of how he speaks.”

Spector is not a Hip Hop hater in general. She does mention one rapper she is fond of. Speaking about the creator of The Marshall Mathers LP 2, she said, “I like Eminem. I like something I can understand. I understand his lyrics.”

Spector (born Veronica Yvette Bennett) was the lead singer of Grammy winning group The Ronettes. One of the trio’s biggest hits was 1963’s “Be My Baby” which was produced by convicted murder Phil Spector, Ronnie’s ex-husband.

Fools Gold Turns L.A. Up With A Free Party!

On Sunday November 10 Fools Gold Records brough theirFools Gold Day Off event to Los Angeles, CA after other successful stops around the country and turned the city out! Held at The Shrine Auditorium lot across the street from the USC campus, Fools Gold brought out thousands of young energetic Angelinos of all races who braved long lines in the hot sun for free entry (with prior RSVP) to party and dance all afternoon, evening and in to the night. The lineup was an interesting and weird mixture of EDM, Classic Gangster Rap, New Gangster Rap, and Molly/Ratchet Rap with the likes of A-Trak, DJ Quik, Freddie Gibbs, IamSu, and Danny Brown.

After a few DJ’s took the stage, IamSu from the Bay Area in California took the stage with his HBK gang. The official lineup read as “Nick Catchdubs Featuring IamSu and Jay Ant” (due to Nick being a Fools Gold Records founder) but IamSu was clearly in control of the performance and that’s who the crowd wanted to see and hear. The Richmond native got the early crowd going with popular tracks that he was featured on like “Up,” “Function,” and “Gas Pedal.” Gary, Indiana’s Freddie Gibbs theme throughout his performance was his clear distaste for the law as he repeatedly led the crowd with “F*ck the Police” chants. I’m certain the dozen LAPD cops stationed outside of the venue weren’t too pleased but that’s freedom of speech for you. Interestingly enough while IamSu’s music was more uptempo, Gibbs kind of slowed things down with his slower tempo of rap but after he was done the electronic DJ’s arrived on the scene to give the youth a reason to jump around in a frenzy. As the evening approached, West Coast rap and producing legend DJ Quik hit the stage and even though he was the “older Uncle” on the scene (as was I), the young crowd showed a lot of love and appreciation for one of the pillars of West Coast rap as he started off with “Born and Raised,” “Can U Work With That,” “Let’s Get Down” and “Tonite.” “If I knew the crowd was going to be this turned up, I would have brought my homie Suga Free with me,” Quik told the crowd as he jumped off of the stage in to the photo pit to get closer to the people. Quik left the thousands in attendance happy but they really were anticipating Fools Gold Records co-founder A-Trak to come out next as most of the people in the front row started to tie on their A-Trak bandanas. I braced myself for more EDM (which I don’t care for by the way) but with the crowd so hyped and pumped you would have to be a zombie if you didn’t start moving along with everybody. It didn’t hurt that A-Trak actually incorporates a super dope scratching technique while playing, showing that he’s got real skills and not just another computer assisted DJ, but that’s why he’s a former DMC World Champion. Soon after it was time for the headliner to hit the stage, Detroit’s own unique and eccentric artist Danny Brown. I’m not going to pretend that I’m the biggest Danny Brown fan but I’m not going to lie – he put on one hell of a performance! Rapping about drugs and sex with a voice that reminds me of Katt Williams at times, Danny Brown had all of the college kids on the lot and those in the dorms next to us (who had their own personal view of the show through their windows) to go nuts and chant “I got that income tax swag” as he performed “Lie4” and other songs. All in all, considering the energy of the crowd, it was one fantastic free party. If the Fools Gold Day Off event comes to your area, I suggest RSVP’ing for a free entry if you’re looking for a good reason to get loose and party with a crowd. Rap Genius Announces Licensing Deal With Sony/ATV Music Publishing

(AllHipHop News) News broke earlier this week that lyrics website Rap Genius was one of 50 sites issued a takedown notice by the National Music Publishers Association. The NMPA claimed that RG and others were illegally publishing copyrighted songs. In the wake of that situation, Rap Genius has announced its first licensing deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing according to Billboard.

[ALSO READ: Rap Genius & 49 Other Sites Sent Take Down Notices By NMPA]

The deal, which a spokesman claims was finalized earlier this year, provides the legal cover for RG to keep lyrics from Sony/ATV owned music on their website. Even though Sony/ATV is the largest music publisher in the world, that still requires Rap Genius to strike deals with other publishers for the remaining lyrics posted on the site.

“I am hopeful it is a first step toward becoming a fully licensed site,” said NMPA president David Israelite.

Rap Genius is said to be in talks with more major music publishers. Some of the top companies include Universal Music Publishing, Warner/Chappell Music and Bertelsmann.

Despite the take down notices and threats of legal action Israelite says his organization’s goal is to work with the unlicensed lyric sites and not shut them down.

“I think this is going to lead to a good resolution with many of these sites becoming business partners with songwriters,” said Israelite.

Daily Word: Stay Calm and Don’t Panic!

Happy Fearless Friday! Welcome to the end of a great week but the beginning of the rest of your life! Today’s Daily Word is dedicated staying calm, not panicking, and saying yes to being happy! They say you can either have fear or have faith but you can’t have both! I know its easier said than done but when those times of anxiety creep in, it is imperative that you stay focused and not panic! When we begin to feel as if things are out of our control it is simply because we have given the illusionary “what if” too much power over what “IS”! Stop living your life in the future! All you have is right now so control what you can control! Being happy or miserable is all in how you view things! As the saying goes “When you worry, you are paying dividends to a disaster that has not yet been earned.” Stop paying dividends and stay calm! Happiness is yours for the taking!

(AllHipHop News) Chris Brown is out of rehab for anger issues, according to recent reports.

The singer, 24, was checked into facility to help him get a hold of his behavior. The move came after an incident where the singer reportedly attacked a man in October.

E! News reports that he will keep getting treatment as an outpatient.

“Chris is continuing his rehab program as an outpatient and is also completing his community service in the Los Angeles area. He appreciates all of your encouragement and support,” a statement said.

Breezy still faces legal ramification from the fracas.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Trouble With Jay and Bey?

What in Sam Hill is going on? There are new rumors suggesting that something is going awry with Bey and Jay. Could their relationship be in jeopardy? So-called “insiders” say so! I certainly don’t know but I always think its BS, because I think they will hold it down. But, the rumors from over there at Star is saying that Beyonce feels Jay is too selfish and refuses to take on the typical fatherly duties with Blue Ivy.

Seems like they are doing something called a “trial separation.”

Here is the low down dirty rumor:

According to Star magazine, while Beyonce, 32, stopped in Australia for her Mrs. Carter World Tour, Jay Z, 43, accompanied her on a 3-day mini vacation to a private resort, but apparently it wasn’t all fun and love.
“Jay Z’s early November trip to Australia was not just a family getaway, it was a last-ditch effort to keep his marriage afloat,” a source told Star magazine. “Jay Z’s decision to tour Europe at the same time as Beyonce is touring Australia has caused serious damage to their relationship – damage that may be ultimately prove to be irreparable.”

Beyonce & Jay Z to Skip Kim Kardashian & Kanye West’s 2014 Wedding?

The source added that when Jay toured with Justin Timberlake over the summer, he didn’t take time out of his busy schedule to spend more time with his wife and daughter, instead her opted out to party with friends.

“Not only did he plan the tour without consulting her at all, but he didn’t even try to coordinate dates with her tour. She told him he was selfish,” the insider says. “Beyonce has been feeling like a single mother lately – and has been letting her husband know he’s on shaky ground, and she’s using the time they spend apart as a trial separation.”

Beyonce put this picture up a few days ago!

Also, I researched the original link to the story at Star Mag and it was removed from the site. It may have been junk.

WTF News: Crackhead Toronto Mayor Rob Ford Denies Eating Box on Live TV

Crack rock smoking Toronto mayor Rob Ford continued his egregious antics with Canadian journalists at a recent press conference. He was previously busted smoking crack on camera so we can already imagine the other shenanigans he probably gets himself into while on the job. This time around, he was accused of engaging in oral sex with one of his former staffers but denied “eating pu–y” during a live press conference. Check it:

His defense:

“I would never do that. I’m happily married. I’ve got more than enough to eat at home.”

Wow. Are Canadian politicians more blunt about their antics or is this just a Rob Ford thing? You know how crack can affect people.

5 & Done: Sasha Go Hard

(AllHipHop Features) The new wave of Chicago Hip Hop has produced a diverse group of young artists like the alternative style of Chance The Rapper, the rock-inspired music of Rockie Fresh, and the drill sound of Chief Keef. The one Chitown voice that is still largely missing on the national level is that of a new generation femcee. The Southside’s Sasha Go Hard is ready to step into that spot and represent for the ladies.

Sasha first jumped into Hip Hop by spitting rhymes into her phone for fun. Once her friends heard her VoiceNotes raps they suggested she get serious and record in a real studio. Sasha then reached out to her neighborhood friend Chief Keef for advice on how to move forward. He introduced her to DJ Kenn and that led to her very first song “What We Do.”

Since then “Mrs. Kill Bill” has released several mixtapes including Round 3 and Nutty World earlier this year. Nutty World presented a hard Chicago street soundscape while Round 3 featured varied production including a track created by electronic dancehall producer Diplo. That musical transition is an extension of what Sasha calls her natural drive to be different in order to stand out.

AllHipHop spoke with S.G.H. after she returned from her first European tour. The  recent birthday girl discusses what lessons she has taken away from the careers of Chief Keef and Nicki Minaj, not being familiar with Diplo’s music, and if she could end up on the MMG roster.

[ALSO READ: 5 & Done: Bizzy Crook]

AllHipHop.com: What have you learned by watching Keef’s career over the last couple of years?

Sasha Go Hard: He didn’t let a lot of stuff get to him. He was just living and having fun with it. I learned don’t stress out. He’s a good person even though people got all this stuff to say about him. He’s a cool person. When I first started going around them he taught me how to change my flow. That’s just the type relationship we have. We just have fun with it.

Who are some of the other artists that have influenced you?

I have to say Nicki Minaj. When I first started I was just into the hard drill sound, wanting to make all these hood songs. I realized that when you get to the point that all these different people are paying attention to you, you want to make music for them too. I have all types of fans. Everybody don’t like the drill sound. I learned that being an artist, as you grow, it’s okay to make different songs. Looking at Nicki Minaj making all these different sounds, I learned that I wanna do that too.

Is that what led you to want to work with Diplo?

It’s so crazy. He actually reached out to me, and I didn’t know who he was. I told my people, “This man named Diplo just hit me up. He got a lot of followers and gets a lot of retweets so he must be somebody important.” They were so excited he hit me up. He wanted to send me some beats, and when he sent them through I didn’t feel a bad way about them.

When I heard them it was like I met this sound before. I made one type of different song like that, my song “Pretty Fly.” So when Diplo sent the songs to me I was feeling them. I had to put in my mind it’s okay to make different types of music. If this big guy named Diplo just sent some beats why not?

You seem to have a good working relationship with Maybach Music Group’s Rockie Fresh. Is MMG a label that you’d consider signing with?

I would love to sign to Maybach. I look up to Rick Ross. He’s successful. He’s getting money. He makes good music. I love it. That would be a dream come true if I ever get the chance to sign to him. I think it would be a go if it’s a good deal. I’m not just going to rush into it because he is one of my favorite rappers, but that would be something I’d love to do.

Rockie Fresh "Electric Highway" Release Party

You just recently celebrated your birthday. Where do you see yourself at your 26th birthday?

I see my career being at the top; making way more money, making way better music, my momma being in places she’s never been. I have all these new fans all over the world supporting me now. I can see myself not being able to go anywhere without security. I want that Nicki Minaj and Miley Cyrus life. That’s how I see it.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Porsha Stewart Guns For Kenya’s Allegedly Fake Body on Instagam

Kenya Moore has always been bad but she’s been looking quite thicker than usual since she made her debut on the Real Housewives of Atlanta. Her nemesis Porsha, decided to bring up the point on Instagram in a post that she quickly deleted but not before the vultures got screen grabs.

Anyway, Porsha and Kenya’s on going beef seems never ending as Porsha posted the following:

Screen Shot 2013-11-14 at 1.13.45 PM

Surgery or not, it still looks good. But what do you think, did Kenya get surgical enhancements to her self-proclaimed “stallion” physique?

Madlib Talks Producing With Dilla During His Last Days, Drinking Henny W/ Kanye + More (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Few producers over the past 10 years have been as revered while relatively reclusive than Madlib. In a recent interview with Benij P on BBC Radio One, Madlib spoke on sample digging with Dilla during his final days, what is holding up a new Madvillain and how he figures out what songs he sampled for his beats.

I’ve seen him on his last days, n’ahmean. Digging for records, and finding everything we wanted to find. He had to go out, sit in the car ’cause he was too sick. When he would come back he would find these records that we weren’t. Then he would go out and sit out for a while. That’s how deep he was in the music. Even when he was sick, he still had it.

Madlib also revealed that he “freestyles” when creating beats so he does not keep track of what songs he has sampled and that has led to him being sued quite a bit. To overcome this problem, Madlib says he uses the smartphone app Shazam on his own beats to find the samples.

The elusive beatmaker also gave an update on a new Madvillain album, reasoning that it’s roughly half way finished:

Right now it’s up to DOOM. He’s not obligated to do it, he just does it when he feels it. I know how he feels, you have to do it when you feel it. You can’t just do anything at anytime when somebody tells you to do it. You have to do it on your terms. We’ve recorded about 10, 12 songs but usually we record about 20 and pick the best one. So we have to wait until we get to that mark.

Madlib recently released a new album under his alter-ego Quasimoto this past June entitled Yessir Whatever.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Porsha and Kordell Stewart ‘Weren’t Really Attached’

Porsha Stewart from Real Housewives of Atlanta is revealing more and more details about the inner-workings of her marriage that ultimately lead to its failure, and so has Korell.
When we first met the couple it seemed like Porsha was happy being the doting housewife that Kordell wanted but now that they are going through a divorce, Porsha says it wasn’t all roses.

She has been insinuating things about Kordel’s sexuality and even mentioned that while she had nice things provided by Kordell, she usually didn’t even have money in her purse because he was so controlling. There’s more. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Porsha claims that they didn’t really act much like a couple at times.

“Our first year — though we were married for two, it seemed like it was 15, because as a new couple, we went through a lot. I had a miscarriage and major surgery because of fibroids. Through it all, I started to see who Kordell was as a person,” she said. “We just weren’t really attached to each other emotionally the way we needed to be. That was a sign for me that this isn’t going to be the marriage I pictured.”

That entire interview was in response to a radio rant from Kordell where he accused Porsha of being a negligent stepmother who stayed out all night.

“I didn’t hear the interview, and I really don’t care to comment on anything Kordell has to say. He’s saying it for a reason and wants everybody to think of me in one way,” she said. “At the end of the day, Kordell knew who I was to him and what I did and how I felt about his son. I don’t have to justify that at all.” “If I got married again, I would be the exact wife and mother, because I put 100 percent into my relationship.”

Welp.
