KimYe Stops Plane, Gets In Trouble With Airport Security

(AllHipHop News) When Kanye West was apart of one duo he once asked “who gon’ stop me, huh?” TSA gave the Kanye and Kim Kardashian (KimYe) duo that answer when the celebrity parents-to-be had their plane delayed due to bypassing security clearances at New York City’s John F Kennedy airport.

Returning from their samba-filled Brazil trip with Will Smith and Duane Martin Tuesday (Feb. 12), the power couple received some unauthorized help reaching their connecting flight to LAX from an opportunistic American Airline staff member.

“An airline employee escorted the two travelers through a non-public area,” says a spokesman for the Transpiration Security Administration (TSA) “in order to provide expedited access to their domestic flight.” Since the unnamed airline employee “violated security protocol” KimYe’s connecting flight was delayed an hour while TSA “conducted a private screening of the two passengers in the area of the jetway.”

It’s not all love and appreciation for the reality show beauty and the microphone beast recently. Ms. Kardashian’s laywer in her pending divorce case with ex-husband Kris Humphries claims the Brooklyn Nets star is holding the case “hostage” because of alleged “uncooperative third parties,” according to a report from E! Online. Humphries’ camp attributes the delay to Kris’ legal right to be present during Kim’s deposition, however his basketball season lasting until mid May complicates Kim’s request for an expedited trial in order for the divorce to be finalized by the time she gives birth in July.

Her other half has drawn the critical ire from lauded electro-house  producer (and frat house legend) Deadmau5 in a recent interview with VIBE. When asked whom the Canadian musician would like to design a live show, he responded frankly with “Anyone other than f—ing Kanye. I f—ing hate him.”

The G.O.O.D. Music general is working on his as-of-yet untitled follow-up to his 2010 classic My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy with past collaborators The-Dream and Malik Yusef both praising the new recordings.

Jesse Jackson Helps Settle Dispute Over Offensive Lil Wayne Lyric, Epic Records Apologizes

(AllHipHop News) Lil Wayne sparked a controversy this week when his verse on Future’s “Karate Chop (Remix)” began circulating the net. Wayne has a line on the song were he makes a reference to the Emmett Till, the 14-year-old African-American from Chicago, who was brutally murdered in Mississippi in 1955.

“Bout to put rims on my skateboard wheels/Beat that p—y up like Emmett Till,” rapped Lil Wayne on the song.

Till’s surviving family members put out a statement saying that they felt the line was offensive and disrespectful, and wanted the song to be edited so that was not any mention of Till’s name.

Airickca Gordon-Taylor, director of the Mamie Till Mobley Memorial Foundation, told the Chicago-Sun Times, “My agenda is not to be disrespectful to Lil Wayne, even as much as I feel he’s been disrespectful to my family. We just want Emmett’s name removed from that song.”

Gordan-Taylor reached out to civil rights leader Jesse Jackson to help her foundation contact representatives of Lil Wayne to discuss getting the Till line removed. Jackson was able to conduct a conference call with the head of Future’s record label, L.A. Reid.

Reid told Jackson that the version of the song featuring Lil Wayne was leaked, and that the official release will not have the Emmett Till reference. The Mamie Til Mobley Memorial Foundation Facebook page also posted that Reid personally apologized to the family.

The AP is reporting that Epic Records released a statement Wednesday evening  saying that the label is attempting to pull the leaked remix version of “Karate Chop.”

“Out of respect for the legacy of Emmett Till and his family and the support of the Reverend Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. …we are going through great efforts to take down the unauthorized version,” the statement read. Epic does plan to release an official version of Future’s song without the lyrics referring to Till.

The legacy of Emmett Till is a very sensitive topic for many in the African-American community. While visiting family in Mississippi, Till was murder by local residents for whistling at white woman. The killers shot Till in the head, gouged his eyes out, and wrapped his body in barbed wire before tossing him into the Tallahatchie River.

Mamie Till, Emmett’s mother, insisted the her son have an open casket funeral so the world could see the bigotry and violent nature of the segregated south. The horrific pictures of Till’s beaten body were widely published in the black media and helped initiate the Civil Rights Movement.

Jim Jones Arrested For Disorderly Conduct

(AllHipHop News) Rapper/reality show star Jim Jones was arrested outside His home in New Jersey, and charged with disorderly conduct after an altercation with a police officer.

According to reports, the incident started when a police officer responded to a complaint of a snowbound car, illegally parked in front of the rap star’s house in Fair Lawn, New Jersey.

Jim Jones decided to confront the officer over the car, and when the rappers name was run through a database, it was found that he was wanted for two outstanding warrants.

One warrant was for a motor vehicle violation, and the other one, ironically, was for failing to remove snow from his sidewalk.

The rapper allegedly became belligerent and disorderly, when the officer asked him to come to headquarters to settle the outstanding warrants.

“If [people with outstanding warrants] agree, we’ll just have them come down and pay what they owe,” Bastinck said, “but if they don’t agree, they’re placed under arrest,” Lt. Derek Bastinck told Patch.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Who Made Kelly Rowland Cry? Beyonce? Jay? Solange?

Somebody’s gonna get it! What the hell is going on when Kelly is crying after a brunch with Jay, Solange and B?

It was her birthday and she was spotted crying like crazy!

The love of my life was at Gjelina Restaurant in LA when she was spotted and some say Beyonce was also crying too. Unless Jay-Z was crying too, this leads me to believe that she was just having a female emo moment…just just mad happiness. Damn – where the hell was Michelle? I need them to include Michelle in the mix more.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Was Fake Applause Used For Chris Brown At The Grammys

You want better rumors? Email ki*********@***il.com or Facebook me at www.facebook.com/illseed!

I’m not sitting around making up rumors. Its either something that I heard, saw, or was told about.

DID THE GRAMMY’S LOOK OUT FOR CHRIS BROWN WITH FAKE APPLAUSE???

Why do they seem to protect Breeezy? I think he may know where some bodies are buried. Rumor has it, CBS had to fake applause when his name was announced at the Grammys.

The controversial singer, who was nominated for best urban contemporary album at Sunday’s Grammy Awards, was caught by CBS’ camera staying in his seat as the audience stood to applaud the category’s winner, Frank Ocean. Brown and Ocean were involved in an altercation over a parking spot at a West Hollywood recording studio on Jan. 27.

The seated protest came just moments after the auditorium stayed silent when Brown’s name was announced as one of the category’s nominees. Due to the lack of applause, speculation arose that CBS added a track of cheers to its television broadcast. CBS did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Dilla Day Detroit 2013: A Recap

It was a magical night.

The 2nd Annual Dilla Day Detroit was a tremendous success. With thousands of attendees from around the country, Dilla Day was all about the music. A performance from Clear Soul Forces warmed up the house followed by Frank n Dank, the duo with whom Dilla made some of his greatest music. A mystical jazz performance by Miguel Atwood-Ferguson highlighted preceeded DJ sets from Houseshoes and DJ Spinna, both friends of the legendary producer. Royce Da 5’9″ then took the stage performing “Let’s Grow,” a classic collaboration he created with Dilla for Lyricist Lounge. The headliner of the night was Talib Kweli who performed an amazing set with live instrumentation.

While the music was amazing, the vibe made the night even better. Dozens of Detroit hip-hop artists were in the room and the feeling was like a family reunion. Dilla Day 2013 was about family, the collective hip-hop family that has spawned some of Detroit’s most successful artists. Ms. Maureen Yancey best known as Dilla’s Ma Dukes and Big Proof’s mother, Sherallene “Mama P” Holton, were both recognized for their continued work in Detroit hip-hop after the loss of their sons, who were friends, within two months of each other.

Ms. Yancey cared for her son at the end of his life in 2006 and then later publicly battled for control of his estate and the ability to pay his enormous medical bills. It was clear, by the happy glow on her face that things have finally begun to turn for the better. With the launch of Yancey Media Group and The J. Dilla Foundation, Ms. Yancey is able to support great Detroit hip-hop like that showcased on “The Rebirth of Detroit,” last year and “The Lost Scrolls” this year. She is also able to encourage arts among the youth of Detroit, the day after the Dilla Day show featured a beat-making session with young people at 5e Gallery, an independently owned art gallery in the city.

With the continued support of the hip-hop and philanthropic community, Dilla Day Detroit has the potential to be one of hip-hop’s first official holidays.

Hip-Hop’s Response to the 2013 State of the Union Address

“There is much progress to report…”

I can only imagine the conversation that President Barack Obama had prior to crafting this speech, his first State of the Union address since his historic reelection. With much of the nation still in dire straits, what could he possibly say to uplift the nation? And frankly, how should I respond as a man, father, business owner and hip-hop head.

We know the statistics are staggering – BLAH. At the end of the day, we’re just regular people, right? All the jargon, all the talk, all the optimism isn’t really what people want is it? We want to see – and I do mean see -is  change is here, as we all hoped would manifest within President Obama’s first term. Sure, things have gotten somewhat better, but its time for things to really change.

There are positive signs. Did you see the beacons?

Barack Obama used the word “poor” in his State of the Union speech. I can’t lie, I gasped aloud like I did when Marcellus got raped in Quentin Tarantino’s “Pulp Fiction.”

During my many visits to the White House (I was invited with other media professionals of color who were given the task of helping bridge the gap between Washington and the urban reader) we were told  “an Obama that doesn’t have to worry about re-election is a dangerous man.” Once the word poor entered into the congressional hall last night, my mind immediately thought, “Obama: Unchained.” My president didn’t say “those aspiring to be Middle Class” or some other coded lingo for po’ folk. He said, “And for poor kids, this lack of resources and education can shadow them for the rest of their lives.”

Hot damn.

This is a big step.

When white America catches a cold, the saying goes, black America gets pneumonia. I happen to think Black America just dies when America catches a cold. You know the stats, right? Is there any disputing this notion? You better not or I’ll hit up google. I swear to God. So, there’s really no reason to regurgitate them? Nope.

But this isn’t about stats, because for all of America, the stats suggest we are on the uptick. What do you say to the reality staring at you when the stats are giving you a sarcastic wink like “yeah right”? What do you say when life is defined by BR and AR (Before Recession and After Recession)? How do you maintain hope steadfastly, when just about everything suggests otherwise?

At first, the State of the Union sounded like more of the same. But it wasn’t. I know President Obama mentioned Hadiya Pendleton and that was commendable. That was likely all he could do, because some things just don’t change. You didn’t really think he was going to mention Lil JoJo, did you? But, when we are talking about gun violence, we have to mention Chicago, where statistics show every four hours somebody is shot – that’s is not a typo. Every four hours somebody is shot in Chicago, I repeat. Here’s another for you. More people were shot dead in Chicago than Afghanistan, where we are at war. We cannot blame Chief Keef for this war at home.

The president said and I believe it. “We can fix this…and we will.”

“What I said tonight matters little if we don’t protect our most precious resource – our children” and he is correct. We, because they won’t. Because you better believe that there is a we and a them. Be clear, the “we” I speak of includes POTUS.

As I glanced over his left shoulder at Speaker of the House John Andrew Boehner, I knew his poker face was not indicative of what resistance was to come. Chicago deserves a vote and it was well-earned before the tragedy in Newtown.

I’m happy to see that the wars are wrapping up. I mean, Kanye and Kim are covered more than our decades-long wars, both home and abroad. I don’t even know people in the military anymore. Its like they are a covert group of people that go away and come back without their stories being told. They are wrapped up in a nice bow at sporting events and called “wounded warriors.”

Thank goodness for my homegirl Nikki Lynette, a supremely talented Chicago-based singer/rapper. She kept me up on her brother, who has finally returned to America after faithfully serving in the military. Her joy was my joy. Her brother straight up escaped death, but returns to his family alive. That’s real.

Nikki’s brother is a hero but that doesn’t necessarily help in this search for a job.

6 million new jobs? Where are they?

My people need some.

Housing market healing and stock market rebounding?

My people need some houses to stick the bandaids on and their stocks need hot air in order to rebound. Obama knows. “We cleared away the rubble of crisis and we can say with renewed confidence that the state of our union is strong, but…(Note: people started clapping before the “but”) we gather here knowing that there are millions of Americans whose hard work and dedication have not yet been rewarded.”

Obama knows.

My people need rewards.

Can we get a violence against African America Men Act passed?

Forgive me. I know you cannot lobby for Black men, but with incidents like Trayvon Martin and Jordan Davis happening repeatedly, I thought I’d toss it out there. My bad. Jumping in for the ladies, Rubio knows he’s ruined for 2016, by voting against the Violence Against Women Act. Played yourself on that, homey, and I thought you knew so much about Tupac. You gotta keep your head up.

I’ve maintained my faith in Obama and self through all of this, but my tone is different than previous “Hip-Hop Responses To The State Of The Union.” I feel like Sweet Brown this time around. I ain’t got time for that stress. This time, its about smiling when the blood, sweat and tears roll down your face. We keep it pushing because we never had any choice. We’re not like the billionaires that were killing themselves in ’08. We may kill ourselves, but its out of a sense of intense fear and sheer, unrelenting hopelessness. But its time to be attentive. We must keep educating the youth, starting with our own. Encourage each other. Guide one another without judgement. We’ll invest that dollar in ourselves and deposit $7 later on.

“We know this works so lets do what works,” Obama said. So, look back a few simple decades to a more prosperous era and then look forward an even more prosperous future. Put the info and knowledge in your head and where you want to be in your GPS.

Lets go.

Will Brennan: The Prodigal Son

Ever since interviewing Florida bred and Atlanta residing artist Will Brennan at the end of last year, his stock has risen just as high as we thought it would. Pushing his project with DJ Burn One called Prodigal Son and earning blog posts across the net, Will Brennan gained the attention of Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak record label and teamed up for a push of Will’s music .  With the guidance and co-sign of online personality and strategist Ashley Outrageous, Will continues to develop his concepts and lyrically shows growth with each track we hear.

To kick things off with Dim Mak, Will dropped his debut mixtape on the imprint called More Perfect Union.  The project  features a variety of production from notables in the EDM and Hip-Hop world’s, with big names like Pretty Lights, Zeds Dead, Kaskade, Deadmau5, Xaphoon Jones, Julian Cruz, Araabmuzik, and Heroes x Villains.

Look for Will to re-release his Prodigal Son effort this year with Dim Mak which will feature additional tracks and remixes. With these releases it’s clear that Will has a solid foothold in the EDM and the Hip-Hop world,  something we should expect given the EDM world’s growth over the past few years.  Take look at our convo below and follow Will on Twitter: @thewillbrennan.

AllHipHop:  So Will, how’d you get started doing your thing down there in Florida?

Will Brennan: I’m from South Florida, West Palm Beach, its like an hour north of Miami. I’ve always rapped since I was 12, in lunch table circles and stuff. I started taking it real seriously in 2010 and I started working with my creative partner and tried to take the songwriting to the next level. I had some real small shows and I just kept doing it from there.

AllHipHop: Yea man the visuals have been real clean.

Will Brennan: We try to make sure we tight on that and I understand people don’t want to post just anything. If you send just anything it doesn’t really work.

AllHipHop: You are very open with your music and talk about a great deal of personal struggles and challenges, can you elaborate on where you music comes from?

Will Brennan: Yea like straight up, if you want to be a rapper, you need to be a writer and ‘Prodigal Son’ is a like a path of my journey.  It’s like a reflective look and a lot of the chances that I took . It’s been good and bad, but a four-year journey and kind of like an evaluation of life and the struggles of trying to find a lane to make it. I got relationship stuff on there, I got family stuff on there, it’s a mix of everything.

AllHipHop: So many important relationships in Florida, why the move from Palm Beach, to Atlanta?

Will Brennan: First off I want to say that I love Palm Beach to death and when I make it and have some cash, and when I get some paper, I want to move back there, but as far as the scene, it’s just not there like a city like Atlanta or New York, or like L.A.. I wanted to work with producers in Atlanta that were making key moves. They aren’t just good, but they’re making key moves to further their career, so linking with them has been big for me.

AllHipHop: You recently linked up with Burn One, talk about that and how it was working with him?

Will Brennan: When we first mentioned working with Burn One, I was thinking it could be really tight. His sound is so classic and pristine and clean, real soulful. Once we got in the studio, we talked about what we wanted to do and what inspiration we had and we got like two tracks done that day. Its tight, Burn One’s sound is kind of like the future.

AllHipHop: So what can you tell me about the Miami scene as far as Hip-Hop goes?

Will Brennan: Miami is leading the way as far as the Florida Hip-Hop scene. Its growing and there’s a lot of types of artists, but there is definitely a whole 2.0 scene and Ashley Outrageous is really key in that whole movement down there. It’s a world-wide international scene, so the underground is bubbling. LeBron got a store down in Miami now and it’s just really growing as a scene. I can tell that there’s a lot of growth from the up and coming artists. Like J-Nics and others…

AllHipHop: It’s a different type of rap that you seem to be kicking. The music is a bit different, more introspective on the day-to-day stuff that people go through, we can appreciate that. Can you talk about your work on Steve Aoki’s new imprint and how that came about?

Will Brennan: South Florida has always had a big electronic music scene even before it got huge nationwide. ULTRA has been here for over a decade and the scene has been a natural influence on me. I think that Electronic music will have the same influence that Hip Hop did in the 90’s when every other genre is gradually influenced by it and adopts some elements. I don’t think that signing to Dim Mak will change my sound as much as refine it and expose it to a wider audience.
