good kid Uncovered: 10 Things To Know About the Elusive Kendrick Lamar

N.W.A put Compton on the Hip-Hop map in the late 1980s with their brazen attitude and uncompromising description of the city. The approach worked so well that the “gangsta rap” trail that they blazed would not only define Compton, but the entire West Coast for decades that followed.

Now, however, Compton Hip-Hop has turned a corner with Kendrick Lamar. His brand new release, good kid, m.A.A.d city, has been hailed by many in the genre as an instant classic. With a gift for lyricism, a unique flow, and a knack for conceptualizing content, Lamar is a voice from Compton unlike anything heard before. And, with influences ranging from jazz to DMX, he and his Black Hippy movement are just as much 3 Feet High and Rising as 100 Miles and Running.

Behold, Kendrick Lamar – the voice of the next generation that many will undoubtedly follow.

Here are 10 things we now know about K. Dot:

1. The album cover features Kendrick Lamar (as a young child), his two uncles, and his grandfather.

2. Kendrick cites the whole West Coast as his influence, but still says he went back and studied Jay-Z when he started writing. He openly admitted that he was latecomer to Jay-Z’s fan base.

3. In his free time, Kendrick enjoys watching the classic ’90s TV comedy, “Martin”. Him and his Black Hippy crew also enjoys pulling pranks on one another.

4. Kendrick’s inspiration for good kid, m.A.A.d city was shining a different light on Compton, California. Compton has such a negative stigma, Kendrick says he’s determined to help change that.

REVIEW: AllHipHop.com’s analysis of good kid, m.A.A.d City

5. His upcoming project is a collaboration album with J. Cole. Lamar noted that he and Cole were recently in the studio. And, after good kid, m.A.A.d city takes off, the two of them plan on going back in and working on the LP.

6. When Kendrick was getting started, he had 14 people in a 12-passenger van, and followed Game’s tour bus for two months. They went from Los Angeles to Rhode Island.

7. The explanation for “m.A.A.d.” is subtly explained on a track on the album. Kendrick wouldn’t say which one.

8. When he was 13, Kendrick Lamar was rapping about murder and selling drugs.

9. One thing that Kendrick didn’t get to include on the album was a certain piece where a sample couldn’t get cleared. Kendrick wouldn’t give away any more information than that.

10. If Kendrick could get anyone to join the Black Hippies now, it would be Danny Brown.

Moral of the story? Kendrick’s new album just solidified his place atop the world of Hip-Hop. We’re keeping a close watch on him!

Hip-Hop Rumors: What Biggie Smalls Friend Is Working On A New CD?

If you guessed Lil Kim, you are wrong and kind of right! I heard she is working with some young hungry producers to give her a new sound for the new era. Will that work? I don’t know. But, it is not Kim that I was talking about.

I am hearing Lil Cease is actually working on a new album. I don’t know what the full deal is, but I know for sure he’s working. Funny, because Cease released a dope album back in the day when he was a wilder boy.

I like Lil Kim’s half naked wild pictures a lot better.

Anyway, Cease has been doing his workout thing, but ready to do an album too. Stay tuned.
By the way, I am aware that a lot of people don’t like me again. Even though I quit and people basically begged me back…only to hate me. Strange. Well, guess what…here’s another reason to hate:

EXCLUSIVE: Shyne Blasts Diddy (Again), Sets Tentative Date For U.S. Performance “With or Without Obama”

(AllHipHop News) Shyne, who released his self-proclaimed comeback mixtape Gangland just weeks ago, has unleashed a new verbal tirade against former mentor/friend Sean “Diddy” Combs, whom he accused of refusing to help him get his re-gain the right’s to come back to the United States.

After making it well-known that he was “disgusted” by Rick Ross’ sworn portrayal of gang life and the Jewish culture on the Black Bar Mitzvah mixtape, Shyne kept the ball rolling in a new interview with AllHipHop.com.

Shyne was deported from the United States almost a year to the day (October 2009), after serving nine years in prison for an infamous shooting in 1999 involving Diddy, Jennifer Lopez, Shyne and Diddy’s former bodyguard Anthony “Wolf” Jones.

Jones was also implicated in the now infamous 1999 Manhattan club shooting with Diddy and J. Lo. Jones, who was tragically murdered outside an Atlanta, Georgia nightclub in 2003, was a close associate of Diddy’s.

Shyne admitted he resented Diddy and then blasted the Hip-Hop mogul, who he claims failed to take care of Wolf’s extended family.

“The testament to that is the way he treats Anthony Wolf Jones’ mother and his family. If it wasn’t for Anthony Wolf Jones, he [Diddy] wouldn’t be alive today. I know this for a fact,” Shyne told AllHipHop.com. “Suge Knight was on his back and Wolf was the guy that kept Diddy alive. You would think that after he passed away he would have gratitude forever, especially when you think about the way that he’s rolling. How you not sending your man’s kid’s off to college? How you not take care of your man’s mother mortgage?”

Aside from his issues with Diddy, those fans looking to hear Shyne perform songs off his Gangland project like the popular “Meyer Lansky” track featuring Pusha-T can expect to hear him live stateside in March of next year.

“We working on that and for whatever reason President Obama don’t see the benefit that I bring to the African and Latin-American impoverished communities throughout the United States of America,” Shyne told AllHipHop.com. “He doesn’t seem to get the fact that [there is] nobody more [qualified] than myself to speak to these kids in an honest way with integrity, that can influence them to change their lives and turn their lives around. He doesn’t get the fact that I’m the spokesperson to combat the violence in inner cities. But we working on getting that visa, so I should be in the United States in March of 2013, with or without Obama.”

Hip-Hop Rumors: Game & Nipsey Hussle Warn Shyne That His “West Coast Pass Is Revoked”

Shyne has outted himself as the original “mad rapper” after he was exiled from the US. Since then, he has had Twitter meltdowns against Diddy, Cassie, Rick Ross, and most recently, Kendrick Lamar.

Related: Hip-Hop Rumors: Shyne Says “Good Kid, Terrible Album” About Kendrick Lamar’s New LP

Well, West Coast representers Game and Nipsey Hussle didn’t take too kindly to Shyne’s outburst about Kendrick Lamar’s new LP being “trash.” In addition to Nispey revoking Shyne’s “West Coast pass,” Game called him a “b*tch” and said that HE was “trash.” Check out the Twitter war below:

This is no longer amusing. Shyne needs to have a seat somewhere. Aren’t both Shyne and Game suppose to be religious now? This isn’t very God-like.

We in the Hip-Hop community know that there are two Tony Starks’. There’s the superhero in the Iron Man comic books, who is played by Robert Downey Jr. in the big budget movie version…and our boy Ghostface Killah a.k.a. Tony Starks from the Wu.

What do you think would happen if these two Starks’ met face to face? Do you think there’d be a knife fight about who is the “real” Tony Starks? Not quite. Although, according to Ghostface Killah, real recognize real – and upon meeting Robert Downey Jr. in person, he says that Robert acknowledged his realness. Check out what Ghostface told MTV below:

So, you would think that would make Ghostface satisfied right? Nope, he was kind of upset that they never called him to contribute to the soundtrack for the new Iron Man 3 film hitting theaters on April 26, 2013.

“But see, them n*ggas was supposed to be calling the kid and doing like a song or two, at least,” said Ghost. Check out the full interview below:

Run It Back: will.i.am Taps Coca-Cola to Form Ekocycle Recyclable Lifestyle Brand

(AllHipHop News Feature) Last night (October 24), the Black Eyed Peas leader, philanthropist, and production aficionado will.i.am, teamed with beverage giant Coca-Cola, to proudly present their global initiative two years in the making, Ekocycle. Ekocycle, which will.i.am models behind the message ‘Endings, present New beginnings’ is a lifestyle brand built on delivery fresh new ways for our younger generation to embrace recycling in style. The idea for Ekocycle came to will.i.am during the most recent Black Eyed Peas tour.

“We were performing in front of 200,000 people,” will.i.am stated to AllHipHop.com. “And it wasn’t until after the show was over, and all those fans were gone, I saw all the waste that was left behind. So I came up with the idea and pitched it to Coca-Cola. It took two years to place the right team together. We needed environmentalists, partners, etc. Our six partners are Beats by Dre, New Era, MCM, RVCA, Case-Mate and Levi’s. I want to educate and inspire the next generation to take better care of our world, in a cool way.”

Ekocycle is a pleasant play on words. The first four letters are “Coke” inverted, paying homage to Coca-Cola. Beats by Dre and New Era being the first to partner up with Ekocycle, cemented the potential impact the initiative could create. Your favorite artist, professional athlete, or local trendsetter will more than likely leave their home with one or both products on display. Now, they can show off while taking care of the planet.

The Ekocycle Beats by Dre’s are slated for release this Fall. While Ekocycle New Era hats will be available early 2013, iPhone 5 owners can purchase the Ekocycle case at Best Buy. will.i.am and Coca-Cola are well aware their venture won’t make an immediate impact, but an impact nonetheless. Recycling starts at home and with conviction.

“There’s a responsibility that we all must take on as citizens of the world,” said will.i.am to everyone in attendance which helped to make his dream a reality. “Just because you recycle, doesn’t mean that your city recycles. We must demand more from ourselves and our surroundings. And we must continue to convert waste into a commodity so that waste is not wasted.”

The Black Eyed Peas are currently on hiatus, working on individual goals.
