The 2011 Playback: AllHipHop.com’s Top 50 Hottest Songs of 2011 [#25 to #1]

[If you missed Part 1 of this feature, which ranked #50 to #26 of 2011’s Hottest Songs, check out that list HERE]

As 2011 comes to a close, it’s only right that we take a look back at the hit or miss records of the past year. Rather than draw any more attention to the misses of 2011, AllHipHop.com has compiled the “hits” – check out the remaining 25 picks for AllHipHop.com’s “Top 50 Hottest Songs of 2011.”

25. Killer Mike – “Ready, Set, Go (Remix)” ft. T.I. & Big Boi

I know these streets/ ‘Bout tired of this weak s###/ Your style been ran through/ Like a freak b*tch.” These are the first two lines of Killer Mike’s verse, letting the listener know that what you’re used to is not what you’re about to get. Dressed with verses from both Tip and Antwan, this song has all the Southern bounce of a club song, while still maintaining the lyrical integrity and thoughtfulness that these artists are known for.

24.  Beastie Boys – “Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win” ft. Santigold

Accompanied by one of the most innovative music videos ever created, the Beastie Boys returned with both a new album and one of the catchiest songs of the summer, thanks to a little help from new-wave, dub singer, Santigold.

23. J. Cole – “Mr. Nice Watch” ft. Jay-Z

The most sought out track on Cole World simply because of the feature Cole was trying to land for months. The hard bass thumps and electro-tinged, stop-and-start, sounds made Cole’s braggadocio flow even more appealing. Add a Jay-Z verse to the mix, and it’s like clockwork.

22. Busta Rhymes – “Why Stop Now” ft. Chris Brown

With the first single from Busta’s Cash Money debut hitting  the airwaves, we think it’s safe to say that Busta has not lost a step in his delivery, creating what could very easily be called “Look At Me Now Pt. 2.”

21. Yelawolf – “Hard White” ft. Lil Jon

Yelawolf and Lil Jon created the perfect strip club song, and we’re not afraid to admit it. While “Hard White” did not get a ton of radio-play, there’s no denying that it was a great introduction of Yela to those who didn’t know him, and more importantly, it showcased some of what Eminem saw in the Alabama rapper that prompted him to sign to Shady Records.

20. Rick Ross – “9 Piece” ft. Lil Wayne

Rick Ross was everywhere this year. Don’t believe us? Look at this list! Rozay was literally inescapable from our ears. Luckily, he’s one of the most consistent artists in the game right now, and the irrefutably catchy hook alone makes this one of the hottest songs of the year, backed by a booming Lex Luger beat.

19. Nas – “Nasty”

First, the heavy drum kicks provided by Salaam Remi kick you around, then Nas decides to jab punch-lines at you for about three minutes. The single had Nasir fans salivating at the thought of the potential rhymes that could be in store on his new album. As he puts it, “Any rebuttal to what I utter/ Get box-cutter.”

18. Lupe Fiasco – “All Black Everything”

One of the more inspirational songs of 2011, it was also a standout from Lupe’s Lasers album. Conscious, fantasy-filled lyrics over great production – looks like you’ve done did it again, Lupe.

17. Big K.R.I.T. – “Country S### (Remix)” ft. T.I. & Bun B

Originally found on K.R.I.T. Wuz Here, the banging beat was a favorite of the Mississippi artist’s fans. Load the song up with two additional all-star talents, and the Dirty South anthem was able to receive some mainstream play. It’s safe to say that 2011 was the year that ultimately put Big K.R.I.T. on the map.

16. Pusha T – “Trouble On My Mind” ft. Tyler, the Creator

Pusha T branched out on this track and linked up with Odd Future member Tyler, the Creator for a mighty track that never stops pounding. Pusha dedicated this to the “critics who doubted the chemistry.” Mission accomplished.

15. Lil Wayne – “6 Foot 7 Foot” ft. Cory Gunz

It should come as no surprise that this song was one of the biggest of the year with Weezy’s crazy flow over huge bass thumps. The verbal assault never stops on this one, as YMCMB member Cory Gunz closes out the record with his speedy, witty delivery.

14. Kendrick Lamar – “A.D.H.D.”

California’s golden boy, Kendrick Lamar, goes in over the spacious production on the Section.80 track. A good enough beat not just ride to, but also with lyrics meant to be dissected and memorized with each listen. (Although that may be hard to do if you really have A.D.H.D.)

13. Game – “Red Nation” ft. Lil Wayne

We all know about Game’s past and his gang affiliations, but here the Compton rapper takes a more introspective approach and uses “red” as a metaphor to cover a number of topics, including the current rap climate: “N*ggas’ll trade they soul to be Drake or J. Cole/ Live and die for this s###/ Word to Tupac Shakur’s halo.”

12. Lloyd Banks – “Start It Up” ft. Ryan Leslie, Kanye West & Fabolous

Vroom-vrooom! One of the summer’s bangers, “Start It Up” was laced with lyrical adrenaline by its all-star cast, and then injected with a dose of the ever-catchy Ryan Leslie. It’s like drinking three Red Bulls and then riding your motorcycle. Really fast. With the cops chasing you.

11. Lil Wayne – “She Will” ft. Drake

Just when you thought the stripper anthems had run their course, Young Money majors, Drake and Lil Wayne, hit us with this one, and we were in love all over again. With a beat ready-made for “the pole,” we can’t imagine how many working girls “popped that for real n*gga.”

10. Drake – “Marvin’s Room”

Drinking and texting never mix. This semi-stalker song finds a regretful, inebriated Drake lamenting (possibly at the level of harassment) over his ex moving on with a new guy. This is hater music, but somehow, we all loved him for it.

9. Big Sean – “Marvin Gaye & Chardonnay” ft. Kanye West & Roscoe Dash

Upon its release, this single may have been more hyped up than the Big Sean’s debut album itself. Dripping with good vibes and charisma, the G.O.O.D. music pairing of Big Sean and Kanye West accused all the haters of “ripping their swag off.” We’d say a good amount of people did, and will continue to.

8. Meek Mill – “I’m A Boss” ft. Rick Ross

Ross is a “bawse,” so it was just a matter of time before someone else from his MMG roster – namely Philadelphia’s Meek Mill – decided to proclaim himself as one, too. “Yeah I’m the king/ Now where’s my motherf*cking crown?” the cocky Mill raps on the hook over a Jahlil Beats production. Rozay must be proud of middle management!

7. J. Cole – “Can’t Get Enough” ft. Trey Songz

If this was J. Cole’s attempt at securing a radio smash, indeed this was the record that got him a ton of mainstream attention in 2011. With hook-happy Trey Songz assisting, we couldn’t get enough of this song, and neither could you.

6. The Throne – “Otis”

If being the first single off the most anticipated album wasn’t enough, the fun-loving, seemingly impromptu, Maybach-murdering video propelled “Otis” to sky-high levels. A chopped up soul-sample hasn’t appealed to the masses this well in quite some time, and a few of you kiddies even learned who Otis Redding is in the process!

5. Tyler, the Creator – “Yonkers”

This is the song that turned Tyler and Odd Future into household names. OFWGKTA went from having a steady following and morphed into a nationwide fascination this year. The excellent production matched with brash lyrics either disgusted you, or turned you into an instant fan.

4. Big Sean – “Dance (A$$) (Remix)” ft. Nicki Minaj

When this song dropped, it was everywhere, setting clubs ablaze. Then as time went on, it declined to a steady buzz. Then the Nicki Minaj-featured remix came out, and the song found new life. If we recall, Nicki’s verse was a valuable contrib….well, OK. Actually, we just like the video. Can you blame us?

3. Chris Brown – “Look At Me Now” ft. Busta Rhymes & Lil Wayne

The 2010 smash ends up on our list because of the life it had for months well into 2011. It’s nice to know that when he needs to, Breezy can actually spit. And, with contributing verses from Bussa Buss and Wayne, how could this not have been one of the biggest records of the year?

2. DJ Khaled – “I’m On One” ft. Drake, Lil Wayne & Rick Ross

The #1 song on both satellite and FM radio all summer long helped Khaled and his “We The Best” imprint’s stock rise astronomically. It’s no surprise that the track was just certified triple platinum. What else really needs to be said about “I’m On One”? Except, what does that really mean anyway?

And, last but certainly not least, the #1 Hottest Song of 2011…

1. The Throne – “N*ggas In Paris”

One of the most self-absorbed songs in recent memory, the braggy Watch The Throne cut became the ‘just-got-my-paycheck’ anthem of the summer, with Jay and ‘Ye show-boating line after glorious show-boating line. For real, “this sh*t cray,” especially when they’re performing it six, seven, and even eight times a night on tour! Congratulations to The Throne for a stellar year and song. We wholeheartedly embrace the idea of n*ggas balling out in Paris.

Album Review: Wiz Khalifa & Snoop Dogg’s “Mac and Devin Go To High School” Soundtrack

Rating: 7.5/10

Wiz Khalifa and Snoop Dogg, two of rap’s most popular and beloved stoners, remind us of their love for all things herbal on the soundtrack for their upcoming movie, Mac and Devin Go To High School. The film casts Snoop as the big man on campus, while Wiz serves as the class valedictorian. The movie will serve as Wiz Khalifa’s acting debut and was supposed to be released this past April in a straight-to-DVD release, but has since been delayed with no release date announced. Regardless, the soundtrack has finally arrived, and although the accompanying movie is usually released at the same time, the scheduling ends up being for the best. Snoop and Wiz’s collaboration, in which sometimes they refer to each other by the names of their film characters (Dev and Mac), along with a short excerpt from the film on the track “Talent Show,” only adds to the excitement and intrigue for the film itself.

Mac and Devin Go To High School begins with the Drumma Boy-produced “Smokin On,” featuring a guest verse from the newest Taylor Gang member, Juicy J.  The first 30 seconds is another possible excerpt from the film, serving as in intro to the album. This leads into Wiz rapping: “Cause if it’s in my joint/ Believe that it’s the best smoke” on a catchy hook, which sets the tone content-wise as expected for the whole album.

A variety of production styles from a group including The Smeezingtons (“Young, Wild and Free”), 1500 or Nothin’ (“It Could Be Easy”), Warren G (“I Get Lifted”), and Cardo (“That Good”) help sustain an album that lyrically doesn’t stray far from the theme of getting high. Somewhat surprisingly, Wiz and Snoop are able to take that topic far enough to stretch it out over 12 tracks in an enjoyable manner. Relating getting high to high school and girls also helps with keeping the album fresh, in addition to contributions from Bruno Mars (“Young, Wild and Free”), Curren$y (“OG”), and Juicy J (“Smokin’ On”). The smooth vocals of Mike Posner on “French Inhale,” which stands out as one of the more-influenced “stoner anthems,” due to its relaxing guitar-infused production and the complimenting, calming drums.

Snoop Dogg Talks Working with Wiz On Mac and Devin Go To High School:

In addition, “Young, Wild and Free” gained popularity when an unfinished version was leaked this past summer. The song’s chorus, which included the lines “So what we get drunk / So what we smoke weed / We’re just having fun/ We don’t care who sees,” became a summer anthem to young party-goers across the nation. The popularity led to a video for the song, which was officially released as the album’s lead single in October. The track went on to debut at the #10 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100.

Overall, the album demonstrates the unquestionable chemistry between Wiz Khalifa and Snoop Dogg, as the two are able to connect the stoner soundtrack with their unreleased movie from start to finish, thanks to Snoop’s O.G. Factor, Wiz’s memorable hooks, fitting production, and a few guest features. With the movie on the way, Snoop and Wiz have offered a solid effort in preparation for its release.

MC Hammer Pays Off Financial Debt to IRS

(AllHipHop News) Oakland bred rapper MC Hammer is reportedly being sued by the United States Government for $779,585 in back taxes owed from his earnings.

The money in contention dates back to 1996 to 1997, during the years in which Hammer was believed to be facing his worst financial problems, since he filed for bankruptcy in 1996.

But according to Hammer, he’s already taken care of the debt.

The rapper took to Twitter to assure fans and naysayers, that has proof that he took care of his debt with the IRS.

“700k … Don’t get too excited .. I paid them already and kept my receipt. Stamped by a US Federal Judge,” Hammer Tweeted from his Twitter account @MCHammer.

Despite his bankruptcy claim in 1996 due to $13 million worth of debt, just half a decade earlier in 1991, Forbes Magazine had estimated the rapper’s net worth at over $33 million dollars.

Hammer, who is known for his hit songs “U Can’t Touch This” and “Too Legit to Quit,” admittedly mismanaged his finances during that period.

“I didn’t just take money and say, ‘I want to be a blessing to myself,'” he said. “I took my money and employed 200 people in my community. I had a payroll of a million dollars a month at times.”

Things My Grandma Told Me: Southern Dirty Rice

What’s hap’nin, y’all!? It’s been more than a minute since we’ve vibed. I left the industry by choice 13 years ago, but I never put the pen down. I even hit the studio every now and then because of my undying love for Hip-Hop.

Lately, I’ve been in the kitchen creating delicious originals or cooking the Creole and Soul recipes handed down to me from my grandmother. Because she was such a firecracker, I wrote a cookbook/memoir in her honor. When I threw the bullet in the movie I’m ‘Bout It, it was because my grandma kept a bag of bullets on the shelf next to her bed, and she would often joke with friends and my uncles by pitching them at them and saying, “You might catch this one, muthaf*cka, but I bet you won’t catch the next one.” Her eyes would move towards her b######## purse that held two guns, a pool ball in a sock, and a rock covered in foil paper.

The cookbook is perfectly titled Things My Grandma Told Me, Things My Grandma Showed Me, and it has chapter titles that I often tweet from my Twitter account like:

“P*ssy Don’t Make Him Stay; It Makes Him Skeet”

“The Way To His Heart Is Not Through Your Panties”

“I’d Rather Have A Second Job Than A Wet *ss From A Poor D*ck”

“If Ya Mama Didn’t Name You Doormat Or Punching Bag, There’s No Reason To Be Getting Yo *ss Walked On And Kicked”

…just to name a few. My cookbook is raw and real with some of the best food recipes you’ve ever tasted. This is who my grandma was on top of being a great cook. Today, I’m going to share our famous “Dirty Rice” recipe. Dirty Rice is great along side of any meat, but it’s also a stand-alone dish because it’s full of flavor. I’m going to be bringing many easy and tasty dishes to you, with the hopes of getting people back into cooking.

In the South, it really goes down in the kitchen, y’all. We discuss everything from who’s in jail, who’s pregnant, who’s in love, and who’s about to break up, to who graduated got promoted or fired. Y’all know how real life is. All types of conversations are held while we whip up the bomb food. To me, the world is in a microwave now days. Everything is moving so fast. Families, couples and friends don’t talk and bond the way they used to, so I’m hoping to get us back in the kitchen at least for the fire Sunday dinners, if not a few nights a week.

Cooking is not as hard as you think when you put a lil’ love and care in every pour and stir. People will be jocked out on your food in no time. My grandma use to say, “He can get head from a crack h*e n’ p*ssy from the neighborhood hot *ss. What else you got?” So my motto is: “I’m Smart…I Work…I Can Cook…n’ I’m Better in Bed!”

Make sure you follow me on Twitter @TheRealMiaX and become part of my clique, #TeamWhipDemPots. Also, be sure to try out my Dirty Rice dish. It will be a great change up and addition to all the goodies at the table this holiday season. Oh yeah, check out the title song from my forthcoming cookbook. There’s nothing like cooking some bomb ass food while you jammin’, ya heard me, baby?

[Things My Grandma Told Me – title track]

Mia X’s DIRTY RICE RECIPE

45 minutes (Prep: 25 minutes; Cook: 20 minutes – Serves 20)

Ingredients

1lb ground beef or turkey

1 lb of Patton’s hot sausage links removed from its skin (optional but the Bomb)

1/2 ground pork (optional)

1/3 pound of minced chicken livers

1 green bell pepper, chopped fine

1 red bell pepper, chopped fine

2 yellow onions, chopped fine

4 garlic gloves, chopped fine

1 celery stick, chopped fine

5 cups of cooked, parboiled rice

2 beef bouillon cubes, crushed

2 chicken bouillon cubes, crushed

1/4 cup of dry parsley

1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Cook your meats in a large pot until browned. Add in bouillon cubes and chopped seasonings cook until seasonings tender. Add in your cooked rice and stir everything until evenly mixed.

A cool tip for additional flavor, I like to boil my rice in a combination of beef and chicken broth instead of using water. To make smaller portions, you can always cut your ingredients down to fit the number of people you’re serving. If you’re a non-beef/pork eater, turkey and ground chicken are great substitutes.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Canibus Apologizes To Hip-Hop AND J. Cole!?! The Roots Want to Make a Movie…or Play!!

Canibus Says Sorry to Hip-Hop and J. Cole for Recent Diss:

We’re not even going to question the level of bipolarity that Canibus is dealing with, because clearly, this has to be one of thee worst attempts at generating publicity and awareness for an album ever seen. Let’s be real, that’s this cheap shot was, man! Want to know more about Canibus’ album? That’s what Google is for, people.

Daily Word: Pay Yourself First!

Happy Monday, my dreamers and doers!

Welcome to the start of the best week of your life! Today’s Daily Word is dedicated to paying yourself first! As a financial literacy expert, I always encourage this as a key principle in getting your finances in order, but today, I am not just talking about paying yourself first monetarily! Today as I discuss this principle, I am discussing what you owe to yourself, your duties, your obligations!

Often times, we tend to put other people’s needs in front of ours, not realizing that we’re doing both parties an injustice! If you are not consistently improving yourself, you are limiting what you can give back to the world! You weren’t put on this earth to be mediocre! You were put here to maximize your full potential, and the only way you can do that effectively is to constantly work on you! You have a duty to give back to the world, but how can you if you aren’t at your best???

Stop being selfish and be selfish!! Work on making you the best you that can possibly be and in that you will be doing yourself and the world justice!! Pay yourself first! It’s not only the best way to go but your mandatory duty!! -Ash’Cash

“For today and its blessings, you owe the world an attitude of gratitude.” -Unknown

“”Doing your own thing” is a generous act. Being gifted creates obligations, which means you owe the world your best effort at the work you love.” -Barbara Sher

“Life is a gift, and it offers us the privilege, opportunity, and responsibility to give something back by becoming more.” -Anthony Robbins

“We have to do the best we can. This is our sacred human responsibility.” -Albert Einstein

“You’re not obligated to win. You’re obligated to keep trying to do the best you can every day.” -Marian Wright Edelman

“Your most important obligation in any lifetime is to be true to yourself.” -Richard Bach

“Remember always that you not only have the right to be an individual, you have an obligation to be one.” -Eleanor Roosevelt

“You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today.” -Abraham Lincoln

“The day you take complete responsibility for yourself, the day you stop making any excuses, that’s the day you start to the top.” -Unknown
