Full Clip: DJ Premier Gives Backstory On Entire Gang Starr Catalog

As DJ Premier battles it out with fellow larger-than-life rap icon Dr. Dre in VIBE’s Greatest Hip-Hop Producer Of All-Time , the majestic beat visionary behind Gang Starr details the making of the entire studio album catalogue by the landmark duo—prominently fronted by venerable late lyricist Guru. Through groundbreaking musical statements, fist-fights, break-ups and unlikely commercial triumphs, the legacy of Gang Starr lives on. This is hip hop history.—Keith Murphy No More Mr. Nice Guy (1989) What comes to mind during that time was my amateur production skills [laughs]. I didn’t fully produce this album. Three of the songs The 45 King produced before even I joined the group… Step In The Arena (1991) On the first album, I brought in a demo with just me repeating the drums over-and-over on one record and then I would start cutting up the records. I didn’t know the process of using a drum machine and trimming it straight to tape. But Step In The Arena is where I started to do the production all by myself…To read more click here…

Ace Hood Preps Third Release on Def Jam entitled ‘Mr. Hood’

(AllHipHop News) As DJ Khaled’s label We The Best Music continues to promote his album Victory across the country, his protégé Ace Hood is hard at work on his third album titled Mr. Hood. “We are actually working on it,” Ace told AllHipHop.com of the new album. “I don’t have an official date on this next album, I am truly just worried about the single more than anything. And the single I am dropping soon is with Trey Songz, it’s a crazy record.”Although Ace remained quiet about the title of the song, he did mention that fellow Miami rapper Rick Ross will be featured on the album, in addition to a host of other artists he hopes to work with for the upcoming release on Def Jam.“You know I am gonna put ‘The Boss’ [Rick Ross] on there.  The record I am going to put ‘The Boss’ on is gonna be something glorious, that big J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League sound,” Ace explained.“I really wanted to step outside the box with this whole Mr. Hood situation.  So right now I got Sean Garrett, but there are definitely a few people I would like to work with; Keri [Hilson], T.I., I wanna get Wayne on something,  we could do something crazy, [I] definitely would like Jeezy on something,” Ace Hood said. While his first two projects were not nearly as successful as many at Def Jam had anticipated, the 22-year-old MC has remained positive about his ability to reach audiences of all types, with new sounds and music he might not have been known to make in the past. When asked what separates this album from previous projects, Ace said that “this next album is just a total flip of how I have been doing things.”“I wanted to take this whole Mr. Hood situation to a whole another level, really brand this Ace Hood/Mr. Hood situation,” Ace Hood told AllHipHop.com “Before I took it to the Gutta, and then I lived a Ruthless lifestyle, now is Mr. Hood, me living and learning, and knowing what’s my crowd and what’s my niche. Mr Hood is just more exquisite.  It’s an upgrade from everything else I have been doing.  Mr. Hood meaning I’ve been drinking finer wine, I am drinking more expensive drinks, I been getting more expensive jewelry, I’m starting to shine a lot more. I overview the beaches, we suit and tying every now and again.”Ace Hood’s also plans to drop the No Pressure mixtape for fans prior to the release of his album.
