Big Sean and his mom have launched Mogul Prep, an education program they started to help teach inner city youths about what it takes to break into the music industry.

Big Sean personally leads intimate sized workshops for middle and high school students in four select cities.

He wants to teach kids that you don’t necessarily have to be a rapper in order to be in the music industry.

There are other jobs like “business managers, publishers, publicists, agents, booking agents, creative directors, lighting technicians, sound guys” that are necessary in the music business that students do not learn in school, Big Sean explained in an interview with Rolling Stone.

Mogul Prep is the most recent initiative from The Sean Anderson Foundation, which he launched in 2012 with his mother, and former middle school teacher, Myra Anderson.

“That’s the point that these kids need to see: You can still be in the music industry and not necessarily be a performer,” Big Sean said.
