(AllHipHop News) Time magazine is one of the most respected news outlets in the world. Many photographs that have appeared on the cover of the 92-year-old publication have gone on to become iconic. This week’s issue of Time features a picture from the Baltimore Uprising. What makes this particular photo historic is the fact it was shot by a local resident of Baltimore essentially working as a citizen journalist.

Devin Allen (aka bydvnlln) has only been engaging in photography for the past two years, but his stirring pictures from the streets of Baltimore became Instagram favorites. One IG pic he posted on April 25 was selected to serve as the image of Time‘s cover story on the situation in Baltimore.
“When I shot that, I thought it was a good picture, so I uploaded [from my camera] to my phone,” Allen told Time. “By the time I’d done that, the police was all around me. I was in the middle of it.”
Protests and civil unrest broke out in Baltimore after 25-year-old Freddie Gray died while in police custody. It has been reported Gray suffered a spinal injury that led to his death, and citizens of the Maryland locale want more accountability from city officials concerning the matter.
For one of those Baltimore native’s work to be represented on such a high platform like Time, provides a first-person perspective not usually presented in the national media.
“For me, who’s from Baltimore city, to be on the cover of Time Magazine, I don’t even know what to say. I’m speechless,” added the 26-year-old. “It’s amazing. It’s life changing for me. It’s inspiring me to go further. It gives me hope and it gives a lot of people around me hope. After my daughter, who’s my pride and joy, this is the best thing that’s happened to me.”
