During an interview with Mandisa Thomas of Black Nonbelievers, Walter “Killah Priest” Reed revealed he now no longer subscribes to any doctrine. Reed showed his support for Openly Secular, a campaign to eliminate discrimination and increase acceptance of atheists, freethinkers, agnostics, humanists, and other non-religious people.
“I’m not religious. Someone told me before that religion keeps everything divided. You can’t really kick it if your mom is a Jehovah Witness and you’re a Baptist. There’s no unity,” said Priest. He also challenged non-believers to be vocal about their views on religion.
The 45-year-old Brooklyn native has become known for addressing spirituality in his music. Priest’s most recent album, Planet of the Gods, was filled with religious and mystic references.
