QUEEN LATIFAH IS HEADING TO FLINT! READ MORE!

(AllHipHop News) Queen Latifah has signed on to star in and executive produce a new TV movie about the Flint water crisis in Michigan.

Singer/actress Cher was originally attached to the project, but she dropped out last month due to a family matter.

The Lifetime network TV movie will now star Latifah, Betsy Brandt, singer/actress Jill Scott, and Marin Ireland.

Brandt, Scott, and Ireland will appear as real-life activists and residents, while Latifah will play a fellow local, according to Deadline.com.

The Flint pollution disaster left thousands of people exposed to lead-contaminated water after local authorities decided to switch the city’s water supply from one river to another back in 2014.

The Chicago star will executive produce the film alongside Craig Zadan, Neil Meron and U.S. newswoman Katie Couric.

It will be directed by Bruce Beresford and is inspired by Time magazine cover story “The Toxic Tap” by Josh Sanburn. Barbara Stepansky wrote the script.

The TV movie goes into production next week in Toronto, Canada.
