Many political junkies got to know Angela Rye as the unapologetic liberal commentator that has no problem verbally clashing with conservatives and Donald Trump supporters on CNN. The Seattle native is now set to sit down with high-profile individuals for the new Tidal series The Main Thing. The show is playable for Tidal members and non-members.
Rye’s first guest is the legendary Calvin “Snoop Dogg” Broadus Jr. The Hip Hop icon recently revealed he is voting for president for the first time in 2020. He talked about making that decision, as well as voter apathy and the tactic of voter suppression, during the 30-minute conversation with Rye.
The Main Thing interview also features Snoop discussing his respect for California Congresswoman Maxine Waters, his support for 2020 Democratic Vice Presidential candidate Kamala Harris, and other topics. Future episodes of the program will include discussions with entertainers, history makers, athletes, organizers, and more.
“As a culture, we commune in spaces like our kitchen tables and backyard barbecues for life’s delicate, candid conversations,” says Rye. “While we’re secluded in our homes during one of the most pivotal moments in our nation’s history, The Main Thing, virtually culminates all of those conversations and as a culture, helps us to align on what really matters.”
In addition to promoting the importance of voting on The Main Thing, Snoop also recently helped launch the #VoteWithSnoop online voter registration drive. He partnered with the nonpartisan, nonprofit voting advocacy groups Rock The Vote and 1 VoteCloser as well as the social justice initiative OneOpp to hopefully bolster voter turnout this election season.
