Common, Musiq Soulchild and Slum Village Celebrates 10th Annual DC Loves Dilla

Last night, the Howard Theatre was filled with several people from all walks of life to celebrate the life of beloved producer, J. Dilla. The event was DC Loves Dilla, and it was it’s tenth year being held.  Every year, a plethora of artists would make an appearance to honor Dilla through classic tracks produced by the Detroit producer, ranging from artists within the DMV area to hip hop legends such as Phife Dawg from A Tribe Called Quest, The Pharcyde, De La Soul, and many more.

This year, Chicago’s legendary rapper, as well as J. Dilla’s former , Common headlined the show along with Slum Village and singer Georgia Anne Muldrow. What made their performances unique during DC Loves Dilla was the addition of The Players, the show’s house band that performs along with every artist there. The Players also had a number of singers that lit up the stage as well.

DC Loves Dilla has always acquired a more mature audience in the DC area, however, it still continues to be a prominent event in DC. Last year, the event made national news after an announcement was made that J Dilla’s production equipment would be placed in an exhibit at Smithsonian’s African American History Museum. With 10 years of success and running, it looks like, DC Loves Dilla will remain one of DC’s special shows. Check out some of the photos below.

Kid Rock Tells Confederate Flag Protesters To “Kiss My Ass”

It is now difficult to remember that Kid Rock once had a relationship with African Americans when h was a rapper.

Now, the Detroit native has taken to vehemently reject those protesting his continued use of the Confederate flag, which was formally taken down in South Carolina this week. Other states and retailers have discontinued use as well.

Earlier in the week, the National Action Network’s Michigan chapter protested outside the Detroit Historical Museum and demand the now-rocker discontinue use of the Confederate flag. Kid Rock offered the following message delivered through Fox News: “Please tell the people who are protesting to kiss my ass/Ask me some questions.”

According to published reports, Rock has moved to Alabama and become friends with conservative radicals like Ted Nugnet and toured with “Southern Pride” acts like Lynyrd Skynyrd, who also loves the Confederate flag.

There is a permanent exhibit at the Historical Museum, The Kid Rock Music Lab, that celebrates Kid Rock’s musical contributions and makes no reference to the flag at all.

”The Kid Rock Music Lab is one of 10 permanent exhibitions at the Detroit Historical Museum,” the museum said to WXYZ. “Kid Rock’s contribution to Detroit’s music history is significant and warrants his inclusion along with other key figures like Stevie Wonder, Bob Seger, Aretha Franklin and Eminem. There are no displays of the Confederate flag in the Kid Rock Music Lab or anywhere else inside the Detroit Historical Museum.”
