A lot of rappers talk about getting out of the hood, but most never make it. Whether outside pressure, or lack of motivation be the reason, the results often lead to a dead end. But now we’re in a new time. The Information Age has eliminated many barriers, and created countless new bridges to bring people, and their ideas together, even if they’re from different worlds. One such case is Divine: the Fort Greene native who turned his life around, and doubled down on his talents to connect with business magnate, Ben Horowitz. Divine’s story, and music, both resonated with the Hip-Hop aficionado, eventually leading to a mentor-protégé relationship, that has remained strong over the past year. To commemorate how this partnership has influenced Divine’s life, and plans for his future, he’s pleased to offer some “H.O.P.E.,” to each and everyone of us. The track finds Ben’s wife, Felicia, offering an encouraging intro, with the Harlem based talent, LoVel, on the hook, over Ran Reed’s inspiring production. However, it’s Divine’s uplifting display of lyricism, and passion for the craft that brings the track to full fruition. “H.O.P.E.” is the debut leak taken from Divine’s forthcoming, sophomore LP, Infinite Crime. If “H.O.P.E.” is any indication of what’s to come, we can remain hopeful that Infinite Crime will deliver…be on the lookout for the album’s release date, and more details!

Bay Area native Xavier “Zaytoven” Dotson’s new guide book From A to Zay: The Indie Guide to Music Production is set to hit stores.

The 26-chapter Familiar Territory Book Publishing release provides a list of everything someone breaking into the biz will need to know about music production. From A to Zay also serves as a semi-autobiographical tale of how the creator of the hit records “Papers” by Usher and “Versace” by Migos managed his own career.

“What I’m really doing is trying to give the game to the new artists and producers that want to do it the way the saw me do it, want to stay relevant the way I stayed relevant being independent,” Zay told AllHipHop.com “I came in the game without using a manager, without signing to a record deal. I did it on my own merits. I’m just giving the step-by-step on how I made it and the route I went to make it in this music business, and then how to stay relevant in it after 10 years.”

After dropping the collaborative EP Beast Mode with Future, Zaytoven’s 2015 will also include a joint project with R&B singer Natasha Mosely titled Naytoven. The Atlanta-based production master is currently working with 2015 XXL Freshman Class member Shy Glizzy as well.

Watch YP’s New Video “Get Nothin”

The word is in on YP’s latest project, “Untitled”….no skips. Real music. Today, fresh off a premier by Mass Appeal, we get to see one of the tracks come to life in the form of the visual for “Get Nothin’.” 

YP shared the inspiration behind the song, saying

“Get Nothin” is a saying that comes from my grandmother. She used to tell me “You Get Nothin If You Don’t Do Nothin” and it had way more meanings than one. You don’t get rewarded for not doing work. You don’t see certain consequences if you don’t take certain actions. It can be both negative and positive. Thanks to my Granny…..” 

The YP in this Gravitii-directed video is living that street life, accompanied by two of Chicago’s finest. Not sure his granny would approve but the cinematic soundscapes provided courtesy of Xtreme give the video a warm breeze on a summer day type of feel.  Enjoy the video below.

 

Troy Ave Shares Official First Week Sales Numbers For “Major Without A Deal” Album

(AllHipHop News) New York City rapper Troy Ave has been the subject of jokes and criticism over the last week as the result of the low sales numbers for his latest LP. It was originally reported Troy’s Major Without A Deal sold less than 4,500 units in the first three days of its digital release.

The BSB Records founder took to Instagram to provide an update on his first week sale numbers. According to Troy, the project pushed 7,708 copies in its opening week. He wrote:

Major Without A Deal is currently at number 137 on the Billboard 200 album chart. That places the project behind a 2Pac album, two Kendrick Lamar albums, three Drake albums, and three Eminem albums. Troy’s MWAD sits at number 12 on the Rap Album chart.

Though the original definitions of hip-hop and hip-hop culture seem to get buried by more and more Iggy Azalea videos, there is a select few still keeping the origins alive. Bailey is one of them. As he prepares to unleash his full-length album Peace King, Bailey gave us a little taste of what he does best with his new video, “Hip-Hop Culture”. This is the most forward thinking hip-hop out there. Produced by Doc Battle, the track also features the lyrical scientist Real T@lk and addresses the lack of authenticity in mainstream hip-hop/rap. The hook sinks its teeth into the listener and won’t relent.

“This song is a tribute to hip-hop and the populous of hip-hop culture, an anthem if you will,” Bailey says. “When I created this song, I was hoping to make my O.G’s proud, you know, like Chuck D and KRS. I want to let them know that their teaching was not vain.”

Directed by the creative visionary Wildersee Harris, the black and white video is beautifully shot and truly captures the spirit of the song.

According to Bossip, and several posts across social media, an ex-co-host Yaz put her coworker No Limit Larry on blast for cheating on his wife with an intern (who he knocked up) and made morning show producer.
