Jamie Foxx Says His Vocals Weren’t Off, The Telecast Was

Photo by Al Bello Getty Imgaes

Jamie Foxx has taken time to respond to the public about his underwhelming performance of the National Anthem before the Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao fight over the weekend. We all know Jamie Foxx can sing, and when Black people sing the anthem we all expect a little rifting and running, but we all needed answers about what went down in the ring. According to Foxx, in the arena he killed it, he says it was the telecast that was off. He also said his inner ears (ear pieces singers use to hear the music and themselves during performances) fell out and he was unable to hear the organ playing due to the loud crowd.

“But what did happen in the ring, my ears came out. My inner ears. My inner ears came out, and I’m singing with an organ so I can’t hear what the organ is doing with the big crowd. So some of it was a little off, but I think in the arena, it killed.”

Hmmmmm we aren’t sure it killed in the arena either but we know Jamie is talented and can sing so we all forgive him.

Black UVA Student Brutally Arrested For Public Intoxication Was Not Drunk

The black University of Virginia student that was brutally injured by white Alcohol and Beverage Commission officers in March for public intoxication was not actually drunk. Richmond Free Press reports that in an unreleased police report, commissioned by Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe, the ABC agents stated that they did not believe Martese Johnson was intoxicated and had only suspected that he was using a false identification card. The police report has also shown that Johnson did cooperate with police and showed them his identification card before he was slammed to the ground.

“We have already reviewed the reports from the arresting ABC agents and the local police on the scene, and our position remains that the (agents) lacked legal justification to arrest or brutalize young Martese,” said Johnson’s lawyer Daniel Watkins.

Johnson, 20, was targeted after he was turned away from a a bar on St. Patrick’s Day and was asked for his ID. The video of his brutal arrest caused outrage after Johnson could be seen being restrained by officers with a bloody gash on his head. All charges, which also includes obstruction of justice without force, against Johnson will most likely be dropped due to this support.

Manny Pacquiao Hit With Class Action Suits For Mayweather Fight

Fans are still angry at the much-hyped fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather.

This time, they are taking their grievances to the court, specifically addressing the notion that Pac Man fought even though he was hurt.

Stephane Vanel and Kami Rahbaran are suing the boxer for $5 million, stating that they felt cheated out of Manny’s performance. Filed in Las Vegas, the suit says, it was filed ”on behalf of all persons who purchased tickets; purchased the pay-per-view event; or who wagered money on the event.” Promoters Bob Arum, Top Rank Boxing and are named in the law suit.
According to TMZ, there is another class action move against the Filipino pugilist.

4:55 PM PT — P##### off fans are coming out of the woodwork now — a 2nd class action suit was filed against Pacquiao in Los Angeles … TMZ Sports has learned.
It’s pretty much the same as the Nevada suit, but the plaintiffs in L.A. have included Mike Tyson as exhibit A the fight was crap. They point out Iron Mike called it “the Dud of the Century.”

They’re also looking for at least $5 million.

Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather have both indicated that they would be willing to fight again next year, after Manny’s rotator cup is fully healed. In theory, if Floyd stayed undefeated, that would be his 50th win. Floyd is contractually set to fight again in September.

Here is Manny’s pre-fight health interview.

Tyga Brings Underage Kyle To Adults-Only Event

Tyga seems to be willing to push this situation with Kylie Jenner to the max.

The rapper brought the 17-year-old to the Cal State Fullerton Spring Concert, even though the organizers specifically requested he not bring her.

The show was for fans 18 and over.

Cal State booked the rapper for the show over the weekend, but that didn’t stop him from bringing Kylie. She even took pictures while eating chicken wings.

This certainly won’t dispel the wide-spread notion that they are in a romantic relationship.

Temperature’s Rising: The Acorns

maxresdefault (1)

Our society applauds renaissance men (or women). Despite one’s chosen profession, people are coming to the realization that a person can be many things at once. Music can often feel like a get-rich quick scheme, wherein an artist or band diligently studies the trends on the radio and design their creative blueprint around what the masses are feeling at the moment. The artists that follow this blueprint can usually get by for a few years with a low level of talent and an attention to detail, but usually these artists fizzle out because as we all know, tastes change.

I’ve been writing about music for a long time. After a while, a person in my profession is able to decipher the real from the fake. To put it bluntly, some artists make music because they have no other choice– it is a natural force that rises within them, and they are compelled to put their creativity to wax that the world can also enjoy. MC Mad Squirrel and DJ BlakeNine are two emcees who wholeheartedly embody the latter, and their origins are a further testament.

MC Mad Squirrel and DJ BlakeNine first met at Amoeba Music in San Francisco. The following year, reunited in Virginia, they founded the Acorns. They have released two full length albums, “Dropping from the Trees” and “Forming Roots”, and an EP, “Oak Future”. Mad Squirrel is master of illocution and an anthropologist working at Virginia Tech. When BlakeNine’s not rocking crowds in and around DC, he’s holds down Candlewax Records at the CWR Palace in Alexandria Virginia.

The two have supported the likes of Qbert, Nine:Fifteen, Watusi Cultleader, Napoleon Da Legend, Educated Consumers, Prego w/ Zest, and more. Their rare but legendary live shows are not to be missed. Their latest EP Oak Follies, is a giant step in the right direction.

A variegated sonic palette make up the majority of the EP– audiences never know what they are going to get next. Complete with soaring instrumentals, “Uncommon Women” commences the EP and is a perfect introductory statement for a band that is intent on bypassing “radio hype.” The track rests in a dreamy soundscape, as a muted flow meshes well with the slow cadence. Throughout the LP, Mad Squirrel puts his outside talents to use, as the instrumentals seem to draw on different genres the same way in which an anthropologists studies other cultures.

The Acorns will probably never make a song about f###### b###### on site, popping Molly, and shooting up the club. But for us regular folk, their rare breed of sonic selection and graspable content make them a prime candidate for iPhone playlists the world over. You can stream the entire Oak Follies EP below, and as always, make sure to track their movements on the interwebs.

Skyzoo – “Suicide Doors”

With his third full length album Music For My Friends, just over a month away, Brooklyn’s Skyzoo preps his lyric lovers fan base with the buzz single, “Suicide Doors”. The track, produced by D.C.’s own Marcnfinit, is a four-plus minute barrage of double entendres overflowing with Skyzoo’s signature “frisbees.” It leaves listeners with lines on top of lines to decipher.

“I wanted this record to really remind people of what I do as far as entendres go – the double and even triple meanings, the layering, the stacking,” says Skyzoo. “I wanted that to be the foundation for this song. Being that the album is mostly based on storytelling, I wanted to have at least one record where I just let it all fly.”
