Madlib Says He Doesn’t Want His Music Exploited Like J Dilla’s

(AllHipHop News) Despite passing away in 2006, J Dilla’s production can still be heard on new songs released well after his death like on Joey Bada$$’ “Two Lips” and the Yancey Boys’ Sunset Blvd album. The possibility of posthumously producing tracks for future work is not an idea that fellow producer Madlib wants to see happen with his unreleased material.

In an interview with dazeddigital.com, the creator of tracks for Tha Alkaholiks, De La Soul, and Mos Def says he wants all of his work destroyed. Madlib states he doesn’t want to see his music get exploited like his Champion Sound collaborator J Dilla.

“I’m gonna burn it down before I die, a little Lee Perry action. Ain’t nobody exploiting my s**t,” said Madlib. “If I was dying in hospital I’d tell my son to go and burn it. Don’t think I’m going to get exploited like they’re doing to Dilla. I’m learning from how he’s being treated from some people.”

Madlib, who sometimes performs under the moniker Quasimoto, also reflects back on the time he worked with Dilla making Champion Sound.

“That was the favorite time of my life. We were just musical cousins,” expressed Madlib. “When Dilla was healthy it was crazy. When he moved to LA we hung out every week, went to clubs, acted crazy, got drunk. I think about him all the time. I always bump his music.”

“Devil Is A Lie” Producers K.E. & Major Seven Settle “Stolen Beat” Controversy

(AllHipHop News) It’s almost hard to believe that a track that features Rick Ross and Jay Z could get overshadowed by behind-the-scenes industry issues, but that was case with the two rap stars’ latest collaboration “Devil Is A Lie.” A young producer named Major Seven claimed the beat for Ross’ Mastermind song was stolen by another producer, K.E. On The Track, and he was not given credit for his work.

The two beatmakers got together with Chubbie Baby recently to settle their problems over the controversy. K.E admits that Major presented the track with the sample, and he later altered it by adding his own drums.

“I don’t salute a lot of producers, but I salute him because I feel like he’s another half of what I needed,” says K.E. about Major.

K.E. goes on to say that the pair have other tracks together in the works including several more featuring Ross and Jay and possibly a future cut with Pusha T.

“I’m just glad everything got sorted out and everybody’s good now,” adds Major. “I think in the future everybody’s really going to see this is just the beginning.”

Dame Dash Talks Jay Z Split, Says Record Label Employees Are “Slaves” + More

(AllHipHop News) Dame Dash may have lost Roc-a-Fella Records but the same domineering personality remains.

In a recent interview with Details Magazine, the boisterous 42 year old entrepreneur talks in detail about the infamous Roc-A-Fella Records split, why record label employees are “slaves” and a lot more.

Apparently, Dash and Jay had dinner at the restaurant Da Silvano in New York City in December of 2004 where Jay announced he would be assuming presidency of Def Jam. Due to Dame’s much publicized temper, Jay felt the best business decision was to distance himself from Dash, however offered to give Dash the Roc-A-Fella name if Dash turned over the rights to Reasonable Doubt. Dash refused because Jay Z’s “just business” approach went against the original plan for Roc-A-Fella:

Honestly, I didn’t give a f*ck. The whole thing was based on our friendship. He made it clear he didn’t want me to be a part of Roc-A-Fella. I was like, ‘A’ight.’ Everything else was like, ‘Go be you. You want to do this, do it.’ He told me it was just business. He said that it was business. ‘I want to look like a businessman, and I can’t be a businessman around you.

In the article, Dash is quoted to have said that record label employees, specifying Def Jam are “slaves” whom “put their balls on a silver platter” in exchange for a proverbial  “three meals a day, a warm bed.”

Ironically, Def Jam co-founder  Simmons describes Dash as a “visionary” in the article and attributes the careers of three of the most popular rappers of the last 15 years to Dash’s magnanimous work ethic:

Without Damon, there would have been no Jay-Z or Kanye or Cam’ron and no Roc-A-Fella. What he did for Jay and everyone, he was selfless. He took the bullets.

The ex-wife of Pulitzer Prize-winning author Cormac McCarthy was arrested Saturday after allegedly pulling a gun out of her v##### and threatening her boyfriend.

Via Huffington Post:

Jennifer McCarthy, 48, got into an argument with her 53-year-old lover about space aliens, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by The Smoking Gun. McCarthy left her Santa Fe residence, then came back and changed into lingerie. The outfit was accessorized by a silver handgun placed in her v#####, with which she began to have “inner course,” [sic] according to the affidavit.

While cleaning the chamber, McCarthy reportedly posed the question, “Who is crazy, you or me?” before pulling out the gun and pointing it at her boyfriend’s head, the Albuquerque Journal reported. The boyfriend told deputies he wrested the weapon away from her and put it first in the toilet, then the trash can.

McCarthy was charged with aggravated assault on a household member.
