Lupe Fiasco Ends Salt Lake City Show After Getting Hit By Tomato

(AllHipHop News) Lupe Fiasco promised he would offer something new for his fans on the “Tetsuo and Youth Preview Tour,” but some of those fans left one of his recent shows unsatisfied. The Chicago rapper cut his Salt Lake City set short after a fan in the crowd hit him with a tomato.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports the incident was sparked when a concert goer in the balcony at The Depot threw the fruit at the stage causing Lupe to stop performing and respond to the suspected offender.

“I’m gonna finish the show, but if there’ more people like that I need them the f**k out of here,” said Lupe. “I know what she looks like – fat, white b***h. Find her.”

Apparently, Lupe then requested that the entire balcony be cleared out causing fans in that area to shout they were not leaving. The Depot’s staff attempted to empty the balcony, but a few attendees were still on the upper lever several minutes so later Lupe walked off the stage. The Depot’s manager later revealed that the show was actually near the end before Lupe stormed off.

While some of the people in attendance supported Lupe on Twitter others felt offended by his choice of words directed at a women in the crowd. Lupe responded on Twitter:

Kanye West Says He's Dropping Nike For Adidas

(AllHipHop News)Hold up, I ain’t trying to stunt, man, but these new Yeezys jumped over the jump man,” rapped Kanye West on Cruel Summer’s “New God Flow.” While Mr. West suggested that his signature Air Yeezys show line topped the classic Air Jordans in 2012, it appears in 2013 Ye is ready to dropped Nike all together and jump over to another brand.

In an interview with Hot 97’s Angie Martinez, Kanye spoke on how Nike did not offer him royalties on the sale of Yeezys and as a result a deal with rival Adidas could be in the future.

“The old me without a daughter might take the Nike deal cause I just love Nike so much,” said Ye. “But the new, me with a daughter, takes the Adidas deal because I have royalties and I have to provide for my family.”

When Martinez asked if the partnership with Adidas is official Kanye suggests that whatever happens next he will become the “Tupac of product.”

“There ain’t no Tupac of rap except for Tupac,” stated Kanye. “I’m going to be the first Hip Hop designer and because of that I’mma be bigger than Walmart.”

Kanye and Nike released two versions of the Yeezys. The initial Yeezys came out in 2009 and the Yeezy II’s became available in 2012.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Kanye West Orders Boycott…But Why?

Kanye West is getting weirder. I mean, I don’t understand, even though I am sure there is a method to the madness. TMZ is reporting that Kanye West issued a report to NYC to stop buying Louis Vuitton until after Christmas, because…the head of Louis V wouldn’t meet with him in Paris. Apparently, the French CEO Yves Carcelle didn’t give a damn who Kanye West was and let him know about it. But, most people are saying this is the result of Kanye’s overall frustration with the Fashion Houses and designers that have blackballed him. He he wants in, but they won’t let him.

Now, I don’t know anybody buying Louis V like that, but if they did, I don’t think they would stop on the command of Kanye.

Over the weekend actors and comedians Shawn and Marlon Wayans made their way to Chicago to perform at the Chicago Improv. After their performance, the Hollywood brothers made a point to take in some of the Chicago nightlife and were spotted at the Hennessy V.S event at Bodi.

The duo arrived at about 1AM and mingled with many of the guests in attendance. Shawn was dressed in a black leather jacket with a green scarf and opted to keep his sunglasses on inside Bodi, while Marlon sported a black beenie hat and a black zip up sweater. Marlon later took off his sweater to reveal a short sleeved v neck t-shirt underneath and sported a pair of Hennessy V.S white sunglasses.

Drake To Release Hit Boy-Produced "Trophies" + 3-4 New Songs Before 2014

(AllHipHop News) Drake is not done with 2013. During an interview with VIBE Magazine Drake explained how he plans to release four, possibly five songs before the end of 2013, including the highly anticipated “Trophies” produced by Hit Boy.

Instead of releasing it commercially, Drake may ultimately decide to opt to release the songs similar to his release of previous songs, on his OVO blog:

Not an EP, but maybe a blog thing like how I did ‘Versace,’ ‘The Motion,’ all those in one night. I’ll probably do ‘Trophies’ and three or four other records.

Drake explained to Revolt TV a month after Nothing Was The Same was released about
why “Trophies” was left off the album:

I’m not a ‘just throw it together’ kinda guy. And I had two different hooks on there, I didn’t like either of them. I started sending it around and as great of a job as other people did, it didn’t sound right if I wasn’t on the hook. I always wanna do my own hooks for the sake of my performances. I don’t like being off a hook, ’cause then I can’t really give you a moment if someone else is doing the hook.

Drake also spoke about an Aaliyah-featured record and a song with YG during the Revolt TV interview, possibly hinting at these songs being among the four released. Drake also said the release of the remix to “Wu Tang Forever” is up to his producer 40:

[‘Wu-Tang Forever (Remix)’] will probably come out with all that stuff—I hope. It’s on 40. He has all the verses.

EXCLUSIVE: Artist Daniel Edwards Discusses His "Jay Z/Care Bears" Sculpture, Kim Kardashian & More

(AllHipHop Features) Jay Z’s partnership with high-end retailer Barneys New York came under fire after two African American customers accused the store of having them detained because of racially motivated profiling. Critics called for Jay to cut business ties with Barneys and cancel his exclusive apparel line with the company.

While there were many detractors to the Jay/Barneys relationship in the wake of the profiling allegations (including a Charge.org petition now with over 57,000 signatures), there were also many supporters of Jay’s decision to continue selling his limited edition Barneys line, because it will collect proceeds for his nonprofit Shawn Carter Foundation.

One of those supporters is artist Daniel Edwards who created the Care Bear inspired sculpture “Jay Z Cares and Shares.” Edwards had been critical of Jay in the past, but the Indiana native says this time he supports the “Empire State of Mind” rapper.

AllHipHop.com connected with Edwards for an exclusive interview to discuss his work, the Barneys controversy, Kim Kardashian, and more.

AllHipHop.com: You previously created a sculpture that was critical of Jay Z when he was selling his “Occupy All Streets” T-shirts. Why did you decide to create a sculpture supporting Jay in the Barneys controversy?

JAY Z

Daniel Edwards: With the Barneys’ controversy, I felt he was being victimized a little bit. He was the only person associated with Barneys who was being criticized for not breaking ties over their racial profiling policy, which is not fair.

Regarding the Occupy All Streets T-shirts, I felt it was unnecessary for Jay Z to present himself as though he was profiting from the OWS movement – it was a PR blunder for him. I feel his trip to Cuba didn’t help his image either –a wasted opportunity for good press, I thought. Instead of smoking cigars in the streets, he could have been seen helping those people. A little forethought there could have helped him with his current PR blunder. Maybe he’s a little too eager to be seen as a mogul for his own good.

DE2
Edwards’ “Mogul (Jay Z Occupies Occupy Wall Street)”

You released a statement with your “Scrooge” sculpture making the point that Jay represents the 1% and not the Occupy Wall Street movement. What is your response to critics of Jay’s Barneys collection who say those items also represent and are specifically priced only for the wealthy?

I think he is demonstrating that there is a high value to be placed on his aesthetic, which, I think, is meant to represent Brooklyn. That can be uplifting for those who come from the same place and share his aesthetic. And if the Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation is legitimately raising funds from those profits for students in need, then it makes sense to court the people with the money.

What is your opinion on the allegations that Barneys racially profiles African American customers? Would you personally support the collection?

No, I will not support the collection at Barneys if I feel that allegations of racial profiling are founded, and I am sure there is merit to the allegations. But I wonder, is it a milestone that Barneys is representing Jay Z’s image? I think it might be, and I could see why Jay Z would protect that. I would assume some party with an agenda would object to his brand being represented at Barneys, and I could also see another party with another agenda trying to force him into action against the establishment. Both parties with opposing agendas might prefer he left Barneys. I’m glad he stood his ground, and I hope he finds a time in the future to address the issue of racial profiling.

Jay Z has been very vocal about his knowledge and appreciation of contemporary art. Has he or anyone on his team ever reached out to you?

And I like that about him! I’d be surprised if he contacted me! I don’t think my work about him has been too flattering!

You’ve done a few pieces relating to Kim Kardashian. Why is she a regular muse for your art?

She was impossible to ignore when I did my work about her!

Edwards' "L.A. Fertility" Sculpture Of Kim Kardishian
Edwards’ “L.A. Fertility” Sculpture Of Kim Kardashian

Are there any pop culture figures that you haven’t depicted yet that you think could be a future subject for your work?

I’d be very happy if I could do pieces on Chuck Berry and Bob Dylan that could receive relevant attention. I’d like to do a piece on Obama before he leaves office. I enjoy doing work concerning civil rights issues and have since doing a public monument of MLK Jr. for the city of Indianapolis in 1995. But mostly, I love taking up the point of view that seems to get neglected in the media and if I can find the right celebrity image to appropriate for the cause, I’m happy.

How do you view the value of art as not just something for amusement, but as social commentary as well?

That is a very considerate question to ask me! I am lucky to have the opportunity to talk to people like you about relevant issues, and that could not happen for me if it were not for art. It is nice to make a cool image, make someone smile, but it is even nicer to be able to say something with it that may have meaning and prompt a point of view.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Did Trey Songz and Fabolous Diss Busta Rhymes?

The other night, it seems Fab and Trey Songz had a party. A recent report suggests that Busta Rhymes, who is well-known and beloved, was refused entry. Why? Nobody quite knows, other than he wasn’t on the list.

Page Six Reports:

Busta Rhymes couldn’t bust into rapper Fabolous’ and R&B singer Trey Songz’s joint birthday party Thursday night at Midtown nightclub Tokya.

Spies told us Rhymes wasn’t on the list at the new East 58th Street hot spot, which was open only for the private party.

Inside, Janet Jackson’s ex Jermaine Dupri, Irv Gotti and Sean Combs’ son Quincy partied with the birthday boys, who arrived at about 2:30 a.m. DJ Clue spun Fab’s and Trey’s hits, including “You Be Killin Em” and “Bottoms Up,” and more than 100 bottles of Hennessy, Belvedere and Moët & Chandon champagne were poured.

Guests left staffers $20,000 in tips on a $100,000 tab when they departed.

I do know that this was a Hennessy party where I’ve been informed that they are very strict with the list.

Beastie Boys To GoldieBlox: You Use Our Song And Then Sue Us?!!

(AllHipHop News) The Beastie Boys does not want anyone using their “Girls” without their expressed consent. After toy company Goldieblox sued the Beastie Boys for “threatening copyright infringement” for their commercial, the group responds with a resounding “HUH?!”

On November 17th, GoldieBlox released their commercial “Princess Machine ( a concert for little girls)” featuring and a Rube Goldberg-type toy and  it contained a parodied version of the Beastie Boys’ song ” Girls” featuring different lyrics. According to the toy company in a lawsuit they filed against the Beastie Boys and Island Def Jam last Thursday (Nov. 22nd) claims The Beastie Boys “threatened GoldieBlox with copyright infringement.”

However, in a recently released statement from the group, the Beastie Boys simply requested additional information on the video and commercial and does not explicitly say they threatened copyright infringment:

As creative as it is, make no mistake, your video is an advertisement that is designed to sell a product, and long ago, we made a conscious decision not to permit our music and/or name to be used in product ads. When we tried to simply ask how and why our song “Girls” had been used in your ad without our permission, YOU sued US.

The Goldieblox are seeking a declaratory relief of the video and claim it is under fair use as it is not a direct copy of the Beastie Boys’ song but a satirical critique. According to the lawsuit, Goldieblox was consciously appealing to one of the factors a judge will review in this case, the purpose and character of the use:

GoldieBlox created its parody video with specific goals to make fun of the Beastie Boys song, and to further the company’s goal to break down gender stereotypes and to encourage young girls to engage in activities that challenge their intellect, particularly in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math. The GoldieBlox Girls Parody Video has gone viral on the Internet and has been recognized by the press and the public as a parody and criticism of the original song.

The song “Girls” was originally released as the seventh and final single from the Beastie Boy’s debut album Licensed to Ill in May of 1987. There is no word on if the Beastie Boys or Island Def Jam plan to countersue for copyright infringement at the time. Check out the full Beastie Boys press release and Goldieblox commercial below:

Like many of the millions of people who have seen your toy commercial “GoldieBlox, Rube Goldberg & the Beastie Boys,” we were very impressed by the creativity and the message behind your ad. We strongly support empowering young girls, breaking down gender stereotypes and igniting a passion for technology and engineering.

Drake's Father Talks Kendrick Lamar's Control Verse, Drake/Al Green Collab + More (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Dennis Graham fathered Drake, told him he would not be as successful as him and watched his son prove him wrong. In a recent interview with XXL, the star of Drake’s “Worst Behaviour” video speaks on raising Drake in Memphis, Kendrick Lamar’s disparaging remarks towards his son and more.

Drake father explains that due to Memphis’ historically bustling music scene and his own immersion in the scene during Drake’s formative years, the Toronto MC has been embraced and mingled with some past and present stars. He even goes on to hint at a possible collaboration between Drake and a certain soul legend:

It’s a music city; a lot of people came out of Memphis. Drake used to hang out with Yo Gotti when he turned 18. I used to bring him to Memphis and he’d go out with Yo Gotti and they’d hang together. Juicy J, I know all of them, Drake knows them. Even Al Green wants to do a collaboration with him. I don’t know what’s going to happen between Drake and Al Green. B.B. King, everybody loves him.

When the conversation turned to his son’s newest frenemy Kendrick Lamar, he made sure to address the elephant in the room:

Kendrick? Okay, I like him. I don’t know what stuff he was talking about. I don’t know what that was. Everybody wants to say they’re the best rapper in the world, I guess everybody should think that about themselves.

Mr. Graham failed to update fans on the collaboration with Drake, “Heart of the Moment” which Drake told MTV was going to be a bonus track on Nothing Was The Same.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Did Muhammad Ali Change His Name For A Woman?

In randomly  looking over the internet for stuff, I stumbled over this post at the Huffington Post. And it dealt with the REAL reason why Muhammad Ali changed his name from Cassius Clay. It looks like it was all over a woman! But, not in some frivolous way. Khalilah Camacho-Ali, the Champ’s ex-wife, conducted an interview with HuffPo’s Marc Lamont Hill and got down to the real deal.

Watch the video and see how she took him to school.
