Hip-Hop Rumors: N.W.A. Movie Is FINALLY On The Way?

It seems like yesterday when Gangsta Rap stripped Hip-Hop of is conscious mind and moral compass! But, you know what, I’m not mad at N.W.A.! They paved the way for Waka Flocka and even Kendrick Lamar! Here we are in 2012 and the rumors are flying that this movie may finally get made! They have been talking about it for ages. Looks like F. Gary Gray is going to make it pop, according to TheWrap.com:

Negotiations are underway for Universal Pictures to pick up “Straight Outta Compton,” F. Gary Gray’s feature film about the hip hop band N.W.A., from New Line,  a person familiar with the situation has told TheWrap.

The feature follows the legendary hip hop band’s rise to stardom, from being teenagers in poor Los Angeles neighborhoods to the breaking up of the band.
Andrea Berloff penned the script for the film, which includes Ice Cube (pictured) among the producers.

“Straight Outta Compton” also looks at the controversy surrounding the group, Easy E’s death from AIDS, the beginning of Ice Cube’s solo career, and the forming of Death Row Records.

Documentary On Rudy Ray Moore a.k.a. "Dolemite" Reveals His Impact on Hip-Hop and His Hidden Sexuality

The Blaxploitation era will NEVER be the same! Along with the likes of Shaft, Superfly, and Sweet Sweetback – Dolemite was one of the signature characters that created the macho-pimp hero in urban filmmaking throughout the 1970s. Even today, that era has influence in film and music, with many cats in Hip-Hop and pop culture emulating the Blaxploitation era.

Recently, there has been renewed interest in the films that turned Black men and women into ghetto superstars – Black Dynamite and Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained are just some recent examples of Dolemite and Rudy Ray Moore’s influence on pop culture today.

Now, years after Rudy Ray Moore’s death, Donald Randall, who served as Moore’s longtime manager, is ready to tell the world the real story behind one of Blaxploitation’s top brands! Donald is working on producing three major products around the Rudy Ray Moore brand – a biopic based on his life, and documentary, and a remake of his biggest classic, Dolemite. Along with his acting career, Moore recorded hours and hours of his X-rated comedy shows and music that no one has ever seen.

CarltonJordan.com sat down with Donald for a no-holds barred account on Rudy’s life up until his death and after. Donald reveals many things about the unsung actor, including Moore’s hidden sexuality…

Here’s an excerpt from the Carlton Jordan interview below…

CarltonJordan.com: Which rappers were using his samples? How did you approach them for royalties?

Donald Randall: 2 Live Crew, Schooly D (“Mr. Big D*ck”), Queen Latifah (“Mama Gave Birth to the Soul Children” on All Hail the Queen), NWA (“Gangster, Gangster”; “Just Don’t Bite It”; “She Swallowed It”), Dr. Dre ( “The Chronic”: “Dre Day”, “Deeez Nuuuts”), Yo Yo (“Mama Don’t Take No Mess”), Master P, MC Ren, Snoop Dogg, Warren G., Ludacris, and more that I can’t think of right now. I approached the record labels or attorneys and told them I was representing Rudy’s catalog and that their artists sampled him without permission and we wanted compensation.

CarltonJordan.com: Was Rudy ever married or have any kids? Have you heard about the rumors that Rudy Ray was a homosexual? How do you respond to that?

Donald Randall: He was never married and had no kids. I heard rumors over the years that Rudy was gay, but I never saw any evidence of it. I have heard stories and have found now that the accusations were correct. I have footage of interviews with people outing him, and if you listen to his comedy, he does make reference to it. He also signed two drag queens to his label and had gay male actors in his movies. There were only three men around Rudy who weren’t gay. But I never knew this until his co-star and friend Jimmy Lynch told me. Then I believed it. Rudy did a very good job of covering it up.

Rudy did have some girlfriends, according to his friend Ben Taylor. But he also had male lovers. The documentary will cover that.

So, will he movie, Disco Godfather, let us know more about this Blaxploitation hero? Read the full EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW on Carlton Jordan.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Will Kendrick Lamar Be Helping Somebody Jumpstart A Rap Career?

Lets just keep it real: Kendrick Lamar is doing the damn thing in the name of Hip-Hop. Like, seriously. That said, he’s like the go to dude for a lot of people that need “anchors” on for their Hip-Hop cred. I can see Diddy getting him on the phone now.

Anyway, over the weekend, Adrien Broner, a boxer that is known for his Hip-Hop-ness as well as his boxing expertise, became a world champion. And Kendrick Lamar was there with him and opened the show. Well guess what I’m hearing? I’m hearing that Kendrick and Adrien may be working together in some form or fashion. See, Adrien is a rapper too. I’m not sure how good he is though. actually, let me google thing now. Here is is:

There’s not a lot more out there.

So, at the fight, Adrien kept Kendrick around or vice versa. I don’t know. In the presser after the fight, some of the comments over heard seemed to suggest that there would be more from Broner The Rapper and that Kendrick may be involved. I personally don’t think that will happen, but I can see that that conversation will be extremely awkward to say the least.

Undercover Cops Bust Crooked Couple Over Nicki Minaj/Drake Concert Scam

(AllHipHop News) A thieving husband-and-wife couple were arrested by undercover detectives in Winter Haven, Florida, over a Nicki Minaj and Drake concert scam.

The fake concert with Drake and Nicki Minaj was supposed to take place on October 24, through a company called Big Apple Music Inc.

The company is allegedly owned by Phillip Bradley, 46 and his wife, Evelyn Bradley, 36.

The crooked husband-and-wife were supposed to have the phony concert at Simmers-Young Park.

But little did the Bradley’s know that they were meeting with undercover detectives, who posed as employees of the park, to gather information on the couple, as they discussed the concert.

Yesterday (November 19), Polk County Sheriff detectives arrested the Bradleys for taking $36,000 from residents who were hoping to see the concert.

The couple was charged with scheming to defraud and grand theft.

Mixtape Review: Action Bronson and The Alchemist's "Rare Chandeliers"

If an MC brags about how delicious his “soup” recipe is, one might think that a new drug has hit the streets. But if you’re listening to Action Bronson, chances are he is really talking about a broth and meat delicacy. And that is why Bronsonlino is Hip-Hop’s official monkey wrench. Last year, the Queens chef/rapper garnered a hungry following for his left-field metaphors, over-the-top charisma, and a whole dictionary of Bronsonlini slang that had more heads scratching than since Wu-Tang Clan taught verbal intercourse.

Even while Hip-Hop heads are still digesting his jazz and blues spiced Blue Chips, Bronson decided to head to the kitchen with The Alchemist to serve up another full-course meal under some Rare Chandeliers.

After a “Big Body Bes” intro celebrating the fact he no longer needs to steal out of the supermarket to feed his big appetite, Bronson digs right into a gluttonous lifestyle of luxury on the project’s appetizer, “Rare Chandeliers”. The Alchemist makes it very clear that he put his toe in this recipe samples to mix together a seamless collage of voices that appropriately talk about rare chandeliers between Bronson’s verses. On “The Symbol”, Alchemist’s grooving guitar and stabbing organs sets Bronson in his now classic braggadocios demeanor that pulls together a clutter of images that tingle the taste buds.

“Vultures flying over the carcass/b###### blowing on my d*ck like a cartridge/ throw some grass up/ aim a little east of the target/ my brain was sculpted at Harvard…”

After this track, though, Bronson seems to get bested a tad by his guest cooks. Partners in rhyme, Meyhem Lauren and Ag tha Coroner, both mangle the smooth bass and dark organ on “Syvester Lundgren”.  Bronson’s almost freestyle-like verse seems to be only an after-taste to Ag tha Coroner’s verse, where he uses biblical reference on why he is a born rebel:

“One way ticket to the fire and brimstone/my mental locked up but my physical been home/Question I ask god is what do I sin for?/He said I do wrong because Eve is my kinfolk/bloodline of a disobedient/mix with the heart of a butcher make tha Coroner ingredient”

When “Randy the Musical” plays, The Alchemist starts to play a game of Russian Roulette with Bronsonby switching the beat from lounging horns, to break beats and striking bass, before finally landing on some cruising keys. Bronson remains unfazed by The Alchemist constantly changing the beat tempo and adjusts perfectly to The Alchemist’s trademark beat switch ups like on “Eggs On the Third Floor”.

But not everyone can find their stride over The Alchemist’s innovating production. Schoolboy Q tries his best to keep up with Bronson on “Demolition Man”, but gets out-stunted with Bronsonlino lines like “Caught a statutory rape because the steak wasn’t mature/I’m laid by the lake/ you laid by fatable mate/I lace my shoes tight I’m ready for the paper chase.”

The Alchemist has proven once again on Rare Chandeliers how far a talented producer can go sonically with a crate full of lush samples. “Gateway to Wizardry’s” high-pitched strings and haunting guitar rifts create such a menacing and suspenseful atmosphere, it could give Alfred Hitchcock an anxiety attack.

Overall, Rare Chandeliers is another staple on Bronson’s growing menu of delicacies. Although Bronson seems to be a little more predictable and has a lot less spontaneous lyricism on Rare Chandeliers than his previous work, The Alchemist makes the project a rich sample stew that is an absolute must-try. If Bronson’s lyrical ingredients seem a tad stale, guest bars from Roc Marciano and Ag tha Coroner are sure to freshen up its taste. Besides, a Chef is only as good as his co-cooks.

Rating: 8.0/10
