A$AP Rocky defended his red Mary Jane shoes after social media users compared them to Dorothy’s slippers in “The Wizard of Oz.”

A$AP Rocky laughed off online teasing, playfully embracing the jokes after social media users clowned his red patent leather Mary Jane shoes, comparing them to Dorothy’s iconic ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz.

Earlier this week, the Harlem native posted a carousel of images on Instagram, including one where he sported the glossy red shoes, captioned “SLIDIN IN PARIS.”

The post quickly became a magnet for jokes, with users roasting both his fashion choice and the long-delayed release of his album Don’t Be Dumb.

“Blood bouta tap his shoes twice and teleport to Compton,” one commenter wrote.

Another chimed in, “Not him wearing the Dorothy 1s.”

A third user took aim at his music hiatus, writing, “ASAP Rocky on his 8th Roll Out attempt this year and we only 7 months in. Bro pls just go away and take care of Rihanna kids, u keep embarrassing yourself. And why tf Rocky wearing red ‘wizard of oz’ Dorothy high heels.”

Rather than retreat, A$AP Rocky leaned into the moment on Thursday (July 24). He posted a zoomed-in photo of the shoes with a nod to his fashion collective. He captioned the post, “WIZARD OF AWGE.”

A$AP Rocky Debuts AWGE x Christian Louboutin Mary Janes

The red Mary Janes are part of an AWGE x Christian Louboutin collaboration, first introduced in black during his second AWGE fashion show in Paris this past June.

The rapper previously wore the black version to Anna Wintour’s Pre-Met Gala Dinner, continuing his pattern of embracing gender-fluid fashion. Known for blending masculine and feminine aesthetics, Rocky has regularly incorporated skirts, kilts, pearls and oversized bags into his wardrobe.
