Blige’s turn in the Netflix period piece Mudbound puts her up against Allison Janney (I, Tonya), Hong Chau (Downsizing), Laurie Metcalf (Lady Bird), Lesley Manville (Phantom Thread), and Octavia Spencer (The Shape of Water). The song “Mighty River” from the Dee Rees-directed film also gives MJB another nom for “Best Original Song” along with Raphael Saadiq and Taura Stinson.

Previously, Blige was nominated Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role at the Golden Globe Awards and Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. The 47-year-old entertainer lost both the Golden Globe and the SAG to Janney.

(AllHipHop News) The Complex News debate program Everyday Struggle returned yesterday with a new host. Veteran radio personality Troi “Star” Torain replaced Joe Budden on the panel.

In his very first episode, the self-described hater came out swinging hard at co-host DJ Akademiks. The final segment featured the commentators discussing the recent passing of Chicago-raised rapper Fredo Santana, but Torain chose to use the moment to call out Ak.

“Don’t now sit here and give us a somber f-cking moment when you, the modern-day P. T. Barnum, you gave us the greatest gift to Hip Hop – that was the War in Chiraq – and you put a saddle on that guy’s back and rode him in a f-cking circus,” Star told Akademiks. “Don’t sit here now and give f-cking RIPs and sincere heartfelt bullsh-t. Don’t do it.”

He added, “F-ck all that trying to polished your sh-t up now. You referred to him as the demon. You clowned him.”

Akademiks eventually admitted calling Santana “the demon” on his YouTube channel. However, he suggested it was tasteless for Star to start that critical conversation so soon after Fredo’s death.

This was not the first time Akademiks faced direct denunciation on Everyday Struggle for his War In Chiraq series. Last June, Vic Mensa blasted the internet personality to his face for allegedly making fun of the death of his childhood friend Tray 57.

(AllHipHop News) Donald “Childish Gambino” Glover had some of his fans concerned they would not be getting a lot more music from the ATLien. Last June, he announced at the Governors Ball festival, “I’ll see you for the last Gambino album.”

The next Gambino LP will be delivered via RCA Records, according to Variety. Glover, Wolf Taylor, and Fam Rothstein’s Wolf + Rothstein creative agency has partnered with the major label for a new record deal.

“It was a necessary change of pace,” stated Gambino.

It appears the actor/rapper/singer is planning to keep producing tunes for a while. RCA Chairman/CEO Peter Edge said, “We are excited to join forces with him and Wolf + Rothstein to usher in the next phase of Childish Gambino’s musical career.”

CG’s “Awaken, My Love!” was released on Glassnote Records. The Funk-fused project earned the multi-talented star five Grammy nominations, including a nod for Album Of The Year.

Gambino is set to perform at the 2018 Grammy ceremony on January 28. He is also taking part in the Citi Sound Vault concerts series the night before.

The rapper, real name Curtis Jackson, released single “In da Club” back in January 2003, with the catchy tune quickly becoming an international hit.

Reflecting on the 15th anniversary of his debut, Fif told said it was easy to make the track.

“Simplicity is a big key to hit music,” he said of “In da Club.” “Don’t overthink things, just organically see what you feel when the production comes in. Like (the lyric), ‘Go shorty, it’s your birthday.’ It’s not rocket science. It’s a simple statement.

Organizers have announced the headliners for the annual festival, which will include performances by A$AP Rocky, Cardi B, Action Bronson and Smokepurpp.

This July, the three-day WOO HAH! Festival will take over the Beekse Bergen Safari Park, where tens of thousands of fans will camp out to hear their favorite rap stars.

“The new location offers our visitors the chance to experience a unique hip-hop vacation. There is the option to stay at the campsite, but there is also luxury accommodation on offer, such as bungalows and lodges,” explained festival director Ruud Lemmen.

“In addition to the music program, we will be livening up the hip-hop lifestyle in our program with various activities. Escaping everyday life with the most fantastic hip-hop, all around you,” Ruud Lemmen explained.

(AllHipHop News) Government leaders in China are making moves to ban hip-hop music from television and radio airwaves.

Authorities with the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film, and Television of the People’s Republic of China are attempting to stop the spread of the genre and other forms of expression they have deemed vulgar.

According to state-run Xinhua News, television broadcast stations are being advised not to feature any artist with tattoos, and to cool it with the Hip Hop performances.

The news comes after a pair of raunchy performances by hip-hop artists PG One and G##, which were condemned by the Communist Party.

The crackdown comes as China experiences an explosion of hip-hop culture in the country, as groups like Higher Brothers are finding international success, while the show “Rap of China” has dominated television ratings over the past year.

The Migos star has apologized for offending fans by rapping the line: “I cannot vibe with q#####,” insisting he wasn’t using the derogatory word as a slur, and now his girlfriend is backing him.

Cardi B took to Periscope over the weekend, to share her thoughts about the controversy.

“I’m not going to let somebody call him homophobic when I know that he’s not,” she said. “And I’m saying this because I seen him around these… around gays, and he treats them with the same respect he treats everybody. He never acts uncomfortable and he just don’t care.”

Cardi revealed she quizzed her man on the lyrics and he confessed he had no idea the word had homophobic implications.

“It has a different vocabulary on the dictionary,” the “Bodak Yellow” star explained. “Now, that’s a word that you guys say that it’s a bad word for gays – I never even heard that word in the first place. Why don’t y’all educate people about it?

“A lot of people are not aware about what’s wrong or right in the LGBT community. Why don’t we do things to educate instead of bashing and trying to label something that they not?”

Last year, Cardi B apologized for using the slur “tranny” stating, “I did not know that that word was a bad word ’cause trans people use it.”

In a lengthy apology issued earlier this month, Offset said, “I have said before… that I got love for all people. My passion for fashion has lead me to a lot of gay people around me who I have mad respect for and we are very cool so I’m not in a place where I’m hating like that.”

Offset went on to reveal he was simply looking for another word to fit in with the rhyme, and was inspired by reading an Internet example for using “queer” in a sentence, which stated, “she had a queer feeling that they were being watched”.

He continued, “When I wrote that I was thinking of words that could rhyme with the others (here, lear, solitaire, bear) and I saw this definition… and it fit what I was thinking about a stalker creepy paparazzi situation. To me that ‘queer’ I don’t mean someone who’s gay. I mean lame people who film you, post it and stalk you. Lingo that means strange or odd.”
