Beyonce Inches Closer To Buying A Stake In The Houston Rockets

(AllHipHop News) New mom Beyonce is reportedly keen to become a part-owner of the Houston Rockets basketball team in her native Texas.

Owner Les Alexander placed the franchise up for sale last month, 24 years after he purchased the Rockets back in 1993 for $85 million, and the Formation hitmaker has emerged as one of the interested parties, according to Bloomberg.com.

The team is said to be valued at $1.65 billion, but the price tag could sail past $2 billion thanks to its growing popularity in China.

Representatives for Beyonce and the Rockets have yet to comment on the claims, but if the superstar does become a stakeholder in the Rockets, she won’t have to look far for advice – her husband Jay-Z was previously a minority owner of the Brooklyn Nets, which he helped to rebrand from the New Jersey Nets as it settled into its new home at New York’s Barclays Center in 2012.

However, the rap mogul had to step down as investor and sell off his shares in the Nets in 2013 due to a conflict of interest as he launched a new sports division for his Roc Nation management firm.

The rules for the National Basketball Association (NBA) state that no one associated with a player representation company can hold ownership in an NBA team.

At the time, Jay-Z, who even helped to design the team’s revamped black and white uniform, admitted the decision to quit was a difficult one, but he would always have an allegiance to the Nets.

Peep Who Jay-Z Thinks Is A Modern Day Shakespeare!

(AllHipHop Rumors) Since Jay-Z was inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame, and since he released his ‘4:44’ album, he has actually taken time out to shine a light on some of the other artists and individuals he thinks highly of. One artist in particular was Coldplay’s Chris Martin.

In an interview with Metro News, Jay credited frequent collaborator Chris Martin with being a modern day Shakespeare.

“I have been in the industry long enough to know when I’m in the presence of a genius… and Chris Martin is just that. In years to come, Britain will look back at him as a modern day Shakespeare. He is an incredible recording artist, an incredible songwriter, but where he really comes alive is performing live. If you get the chance to see Coldplay live, do it — you ain’t gonna regret it,” said Jay-Z

Remember Jay-Z and Martin have collaborated frequently, known each other forever, and Beyonce and Jay-Z’s daughter, Blue Ivy, was even featured on Coldplay’s album, ‘A Head Full of Dreams’.

Despite the close relationship, Jay maintains that what he’s saying about Martin goes beyond their friendship!

Do you agree with Jay’s words on Chris?

What Are 2 Chainz & CyHi The Prynce Cooking Up?

(AllHipHop Rumors) It looks like CyHi The Prynce is getting closer and closer to releasing his anticipated ‘No Dope On Sunday’ album!

It appears that fans are finally getting a preview of what they can expect to hear from it also.

CyHi has taken to Twitter to preview some of his new music in a clip that shows him and 2 Chainz jamming to a new track [that features 2 Chainz].

I’m unsure of the title of the track but it does seem like it could be on Cy’s forthcoming project especially since he wrote the hashtag for the album in the caption.

Last month, CyHi revealed that ‘No Dope On Sunday’ was complete, and it would have features from ScHoolboy Q, Travis Scott, Pusha T and more. Kanye West is also an executive producer on the track.

Check Out Who Safaree Called The Oprah Of Our Time!

(AllHipHop Rumors) While no one can deny Mona Scott-Young’s contributions to music and television, many feel that Safaree has fallen and bumped his head with his recent comparison.

Nicki Minaj’s ex-turned-reality-star, Safaree Samuels, said that Mona is this generation’s Oprah.

“When I had the world against me without even knowing who I was you were the only person who gave me a fair shot.. didn’t judge didn’t assume didn’t care who I was with or not. Had to be 1 of the darkest times in my life.. imagine helping build an empire walking away from it with nothing and having everyone shun you just because you’re not the bigger star. IDGAF what any1 has to say @monascottyoung you are out here saving lives and entertaining millions across the world.. how could you hate on a black woman for doing that!! This is our oprah wether you wanna admit it or not!!! Take it how you want.. it’s facts!!! *sidenote* I’m booked and busy.. love you!! #stuntgang,” said Safaree.

Safaree had an emotional rollercoaster of a career, and whatever “career” he had definitely seemed to go downhill after he and Nicki split.

Safaree took to his Instagram to thank television producer Mona Scott-Young for saving his life and the lives of others with her various platforms.

He credited Mona with giving his career a significant boost during one of the darkest times in his life.

No one could negate that Mona has given a platform to several individuals to tell their stories and at least TRY to make something of themselves. It’s when Samuels compared Mona to Oprah that folks felt like he crossed the line.

As long as Love & Hip Hop has been on air, folks have accused Mona of exploiting negative, over-exaggerated, stereotypes & ignorance, and because of this, some felt that she’s no Oprah.

What are your thoughts? Do you think Mona is the Oprah of our day?

N.O.R.E. Defends Joe Budden Walking Off On Migos, Questions Rappers’ Attitudes During Interviews

(AllHipHop News) There clearly seems to be a friendly competition taking place among the top Hip Hop podcasters.

Drink Champs, The Joe Budden Podcast, Rap Radar, The Brilliant Idiots, The Combat Jack Show, and others are all battling for listeners and cultural impact.

That rivalry does not seem to prevent the shows’ respective frontmen from acknowledging their peers.

For instance, Drink Champs host N.O.R.E. was a guest on a recent episode of Rap Radar, and the native New Yorker talked about the instant classic viral moment between Everyday Struggle‘s Joe Budden and Migos.

That tense interview at the BET Awards ended with Budden walking off the set after his co-host DJ Akademiks and Migos member Takeoff were engaged in an awkward back-and-forth about the group’s smash record “Bad and Boujee.”

“I was justified, I’d had enough,” Budden tweeted the next day. “They was just a little too sassy for me that’s all.”

N.O.R.E. showed love to the Jersey rhymer’s turn toward a “heel” figure.

“I actually love Joe Budden in media form. I’m way more of a fan of Everyday Struggle than I am of The Joe Budden Podcast,” N.O.R.E. stated. “The Joe Budden Podcast is mainly how he feels [personally]. I feel like Everyday Struggle represents the angry fan in Hip Hop.”

The emcee formerly known as Noreaga continued, “No disrespect to Migos, no disrespect to no one of this new generation, I just hate seeing you guys at The Breakfast Club and Charlamagne [Tha God] saying, ‘What you did?’ and you’re like, ‘Yeah, I did it’… Like why the f-ck did you come here? The purpose of an interview is for me to know something about you that the music doesn’t deliver. So when you got these guys who go do interviews and they give two-word answers, it ticks me off as a fan because I want to learn more about you.”

N.O.R.E. went on to express his appreciation for Budden’s immediate actions in response to the failed Migos interview.

“When Joe just jumped up and threw the mic, I was like that’s Hip Hop because you want me to kiss your ass and I don’t want to kiss your ass, so let’s just rap this up,” said the star of the upcoming food show On The Run Eatin’.

N.O.R.E. also admitted he enjoyed seeing Migos stand up for themselves during the confrontational situation and he called on more conversations to take place between Hip Hop artists of different eras.

The Rap Radar podcast with Elliott Wilson and Brian “B. Dot” Miller streams on Tidal.

SoundCloud Reportedly In Talks To Receive Investment From The Raine Group

(AllHipHop News) SoundCloud is still attempting to find ways to create a profitable business model.

After an article by TechCrunch suggested the streaming service only had enough funds to survive through the fourth quarter, Buzzfeed published an in-depth exposé on the series of missteps made by the company.

“No one comes to SoundCloud to listen to The Beatles’ catalogue,” one investor is quoted telling Buzzfeed in response to the launch of SC’s $9.99/month subscription service. “SoundCloud did exactly what its users didn’t want it to do.”

Billboard is now reporting the struggling audio platform could be getting another needed investment.

The Raine Group – a global boutique merchant bank – is said to be in talks with SoundCloud about providing capital and expertise in order to turn things around at the company.

Vice Media, Imagine Entertainment, Cheddar, C3 Presents, Draft Kings, and Zumba Fitness are included in The Raine Group’s current portfolio.

Soundcloud executives have expressed interest in selling the service in the past.

Twitter considered acquiring SoundCloud in 2014, but the social media site walked away from the deal because of the $2 billion asking price.

SoundCloud reportedly lost $54 million in 2015 before securing a $35 million round of debt financing in early 2016.

By that fall, Spotify expressed interest in buying the service for a reported $600 million.

Those talks apparently collapsed because Spotify was concerned about making the transaction so close to its initial public offering.

Then news broke in July that Soundcloud was forced to lay off 40% of its workforce.

“We continue to be confident the changes made last week put us on our path to profitability and ensure SoundCloud’s long-term viability,” read a statement from the Berlin-based company. “In terms of layoffs, it is our policy not to discuss individual employee cases, but we can share we continue to work with all employees who were let go to support them during this transition, with employment and financial assistance.”

Irv Gotti Claims Tommy Mottola Promoted Jennifer Lopez To Spite Mariah Carey (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) One of Mariah Carey’s most famous quotes was her saying “I don’t know her” when the music megastar was asked about Jennifer Lopez.

Murder Inc Records co-founder Irv Gotti may have provided more context to the long-standing feud between the two Pop singers.

While on Desus & Mero, Gotti told a story of how Jennifer Lopez’s#### single “I’m Real (Remix)” featuring Ja Rule came together.

According to Irv, influential industry insider Tommy Mottola was out to hurt his ex-wife Mariah.

“[Mottola] calls me because he found out me and Rule made a record with Mariah Carey. At the time, he hated Mariah Carey, so he was pumping Jennifer Lopez to compete,” revealed Gotti.

The Sony Music Entertainment executive supposedly suggested the Jennifer-Ja duet during that phone conversation.

“Immediately when he said that, I was like, ‘This [expletive]. He knows we just did this sh-t with Mariah and he’s trying to f-ck Mariah,'” said Gotti.

Dave Chappelle Discusses Jay-Z’s ‘4:44’ & Kendrick Lamar’s ‘DAMN’ (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) In recent weeks, there’s been a debate in the Hip Hop community about the best rap album of 2017 so far.

Both Jay-Z’s 4:44 and Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN have been put up as the leading contenders for the honor.

Comedic legend Dave Chappelle spoke about the two platinum certified LPs during a sit down with Hot 97.

“I’m turning 44. This guy’s saying stuff that I want to hear, and I can understand all the words,” said Chappelle about Jay’s 4:44. “It’s a record for a person of my time. It’s the first time – I think – that a guy of his age can make a relevant record. And it’s fun to see a genre like Hip Hop be mature like this.”

The DMV-raised comedian later discussed DAMN.

“Everybody loves that Kendrick record. That kid is the perfect reflection of many great influences. When he was coming up listening to music, I think he had a good diet,” stated Chappelle. “I like him. He’s fun to watch too.”

Dave Chappelle is preparing for his August shows at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall.

The 16-date residency will feature special guests like The Roots, Lil Wayne, Common, Erykah Badu, Chance The Rapper, Childish Gambino, Talib Kweli, Yasiin Bey, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Solange, and more.
