Diamond Talks The Renewed Success Of “Knuck If You Buck” (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) A lot of listeners under the age of 18 may not have known the beat used on “Juju On That Beat” before Zay Hilfigerrr & Zayion McCall’s dance song became a viral hit.

Plenty of people did recognize the sample as the 2004 club banger “Knuck If You Buck” by Crime Mob.

DJ Smallz spoke with Diamond from the Atlanta-based group about a new generation of fans discovering the Crunk anthem.

“We’re blessed to still be able to have a hit record that still lives 12, 13 years later,” said Diamond. “My nieces and nephews – 14, 15 – it’s just now coming to them.”

According to the Sisterhood of Hip Hop star, Crime Mob recorded five new songs together last year.

However, Diamond admitted there is still business related tension among a few of the members.

Meanwhile, “Knuck If You Buck” lives on.

The 28-year-old rapstress loves performing the song, but she admits the success of the cut can get bothersome at times.

“Oh my world, yes I do. I do. I do. I do,” responded Diamond when asked if she ever gets tired of Crime Mob’s signature song. “I want them to want to listen to something else.”

Nick Cannon Talks Writing For Kanye West & Not Being A Fan Of Drake As An Emcee (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Nick Cannon may catch a lot of criticism for the music he releases, but The Gospel Of Ike Turn Up mixtape creator claims he played a role in helping one of the most celebrated rappers of the 21st Century.

During an interview with The Breakfast Club, Cannon spoke about writing for Kanye West.

“I never wrote no smashes, but I’ve been in the Kanye [writing] camps early on,” stated Cannon.

The Wild ‘N Out host added, “I was there during ‘Gold Digger.’ I wrote that bar for Kanye: ‘We don’t need to stop. I make black history every day. I don’t need a month.’ That was me.”

The conversation shifted to Drake and reports the Toronto rhymer has multiple writers.

“If you put Drake up against somebody bar-for-bar – like if you go off your arsenal not your team’s arsenal, what you got against another person who raps for a living – I’m not going to go with Drake,” said Cannon. “I’m a huge Drake fan. Probably one of the biggest… not as an emcee.”

The rapper/actor/entrepreneur did suggest Drake is likely one of the best artists of this generation, but Cannon does not see Champagne Papi as a top lyricist.

Nick does not hold the same opinion about Kanye.

“I have seen Ye be a lyricist. I have battled Ye, freestyle off the top,” Cannon explained. “I just haven’t seen it [from Drake]. We keep talking about it. I’ve seen the Blackberries. I’ve never seen him step up to an emcee.”

Kevin Durant: I Don’t Give A Damn About No Damn Drake Night (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Toronto Raptors Global Ambassador Drake could be preparing to have some bars ready for Kevin Durant.

KD and the Golden State Warriors handed the Raptors a 127 to 121 loss in Toronto.

After the game, the former league MVP was asked about the friendly trash talk taking place on “Drake Night” at the Air Canada Centre.

“I don’t give a damn about no damn ‘Drake Night,'” stated Durant before walking off the court.

If Drizzy does decide to take verbal shots at KD, the OVO leader should be prepared to have some lyrics fired back because Durant has released rap music in the past.

There is also KD’s Roc Nation Sports connection.

The 28-year-old Washington, DC native is signed to Jay Z’s management company.

Drake admitted he has a rocky relationship with Jay, and Kanye West claimed the Apple Music versus Tidal streaming battle added to the rift between the “Light Up” collaborators.

However, at one time, Drake tried to recruit KD to play for the Raptors and shouted out the NBA player on his Views album.

“Empire” Season 3 Episode 5 Gets “Real” Cyber Style In Recap and Review

So this week’s episode of “Empire” was pretty major, but not for the reasons one might initially think.

Yes, “Empire” Season 3 episode 5, “Chimes At Midnight,” took thug life cyber with the welcome return of French Montana playing music mogul Vaughn and helping Andre (Trai Byers) to fool Lucious (Terence Howard) into giving Andre the title of president of Empire Records.

With this clever “hack a mole” A-story line, the writers of “Empire” earn big originality points as this is probably the first time that cyber terrorism has been used as a primary method of gangland style execution in a soap opera – let also one firmly rooted in the world of Hip Hop.

Looking at the music on offer, the pickings were rather slim. Most of the episode only gave up rough bits and pieces of tracks from Jamal (Jussie Smollett), only to destroy most of them as a casualty of cyber hacking carnage.

The one fully realized number, “Don’t Want Nobody Else But You,” a duet performed by Nessa (Sierra A. McClain) and Hakeem (Bryshere Gray), was seamlessly produced and executed but conceptually a bit basic.

While it was a good blend of Hip Hop and R&B, it wasn’t particularly memorable or groundbreaking. If anything, “Don’t Want Nobody Else But You,” worked best as yet another well-timed device to show that Hakeem cannot ever seem to keep a girl when up against another guy – be it Graham (Romeo Miller) or his own brother.

Harsh, but true… not to mention a very exploitable character flaw ripe to be taken advantage of yet again by Lucious or Andre in future episodes.

So if it wasn’t the cyber angle or the music, what was the secret sauce of “Chimes At Midnight” setting it apart as a lynchpin of an episode in what has already been a pretty satisfying season? It lies in the frequently referenced themes of race, class and the ability to obtain ultimate success  in America – concepts that have been integral to “Empire” Season 3 from the start.

For all of this season there has been a pointed question in the air, which is the following: as a black man, black woman and/or a person of color, is it possible in today’s America to succeed by following the rules of a system that is supposed to be blind but seems to be anything but?

Taking that question further, if you are black/of color, talented, highly educated and privileged, can you rise to the highest rungs of the American system in the same manner as similarly situated whites without resorting to criminal means?

Last week, if it wasn’t clear enough from Lucious reading “The Criminal” to his granddaughter Bella, he is the symbol of black success made available only through the full acceptance of criminality as a necessary tool.  Andre, as Lucious’ son and opposite, has always been the example of privilege, education, and following the rules as a means to win.

From the first season of “Empire,” Andre has fervently believed that education and intellect was enough for him or anyone else to “honestly” conquer the world of business via Empire.

But now, after a season 3 that has seen Andre 1. arrested outside of his own house in the upscale and mostly white neighborhood that he used to live in with his wife,  and  2. wrongly found guilty of assaulting an officer and now permanently in the legal system  – it would seem that Andre has come full circle on the subject of race what he as a person of color must do in order to obtain success in America.

In any event, the social commentary behind Andre’s turn to the dark side in framing Graham this week was more than just your ordinary slaughter of a young and dumb innocent for power, money and fame.

“Empire” airs Wednesdays at 9:00/8:00 central on FOX.

Guess What’s Making Common A Better Rapper?

(AllHipHop Rumors) Alright kids, we think we found something to make you guys better rappers.

According to rapper Common, he became a better rapper after he became a vegetarian.

Common revealed to People that growing up in Chicago caused him to once eat a lot of heavy foods like hamburgers, barbecue, and bacon, until he completely switched it up!

“I heard rappers like KRS-One in ‘My Philosophy,’ say things about not eating meat, which was a real education, especially since it was coming from somebody cool. That stayed with me and made me want to learn more. As soon as I removed meat from my diet, I started to feel a clarity I didn’t have before. It sounds funny, but I feel like I was rapping better,” said Common.

Well Common is currently a pescatarian, so he definitely still enjoys his fish and seafood.

Well, I certainly agree with Common as he believes what you eat affects the way you look and feel.

We can’t blame the man for wanting to live a holistic and healthy life. Now unfortunately this probably won’t help some of you garbage rappers be better rappers, but it will help you live healthier lifestyles!

Immortal Technique Responds To Lin-Manuel Miranda Claiming The Rapper Was A High School Bully

(AllHipHop News) Immortal Technique is known as an internationally recognized Hip Hop artist and political activist.

One fellow native New Yorker is claiming the man born Felipe Coronel was also a bully back in the day at Hunter College High School.

“He was our school bully. He terrorized kids. He’d throw them in the garbage. I got thrown in the garbage by him,” expressed Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast.

Miranda added, “He was a really angry kid and it’s been wonderful to watch him grow up and find a political outlet for that anger.”

The “Voices of the Voiceless” rhymer responded to Miranda’s comments on Twitter.

“Slow news day? I have stories for days about people who are now super famous. I don’t think [people] are ready. Lol,” posted Technique.

Lil Kim Claps Back At “Spanish Girl” Critics, Accepts Icon Award From WEEN

(AllHipHop News) Tonight, Lil Kim will accept The Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network (WEEN) Awards biggest honor – the Icon Award and the Queen was pleased to accept the distinction.

“Whenever someone says that they are doing something that empowers women, I was like what? That’s amazing and the fact that they are giving me the biggest award, that’s the Icon Award. I’m speechless. Thank you WEEN,” she told AllHipHop’s Chuck Creekmur.

The WEEN Awards will also honor the following:

Meagan Good (Actress) – Women’s Empowerment Award
Ethiopia Habtemariam (President of Motown Records) – Music Maverick Award
Lil’ Kim (Entertainer) – WEEN Icon Award
Geneva Reed-Veal (Mother of Sandra Bland) – Social Justice Award
Yara Shahidi (Actress) – TV & Film Empowerment Award
Dia Simms (President of Sean Combs Wines & Spirits) – Corporate Leadership Award
Teyana Taylor (Actress and Singer) – Mission Award
Elaine Welteroth (Editor, Teen Vogue) – Editorial Excellence Award

Kim also addressed another matter.

Just a couple short days ago, Lil Kim conducted an interview where she said with considerable levity that she was a “Spanish girl trapped into a Black girl’s body.”

The blow back on social media was serious, as people had a number of negative comments to say about the Queen B. AllHipHop talked to Kim about the aftermath of it all.

“Why is that controversial though?,” she said of her remark. “Because people are stupid. And you’re all dumb. People just like to start s##t when they can’t find anything (else to say). At the end the day, I grew up around a lot of Latinas and Latino Men in my family and in my life. They don’t know that. I don’t give a f##k either. People just want to have something to say. I’m very familiar with the culture and I’ve very familiar with other cultures too. Maybe that’s how I was feeling that day too. I identify with certain cultures, which is a good thing. My daughter is also half Latina and I don’t think that’s by chance.”

“You just gotta laugh at they a####, because they’re stupid.

Kim’s primary function of the evening was to support Floyd Mayweather, who launched TMT Music Group. The boxing promoted several of his new acts and fielded questions from outlets such as AllHipHop.

“At the end of the day, Floyd is my best friend…whatever he needs from me,” she said. “I’m here supporting my Money Team family, all of the new artists. Sunny is gonna be so freakin’ amazing, Lil James, that’s my buddy. He’s so dope. Its a blessing. I understand Floyd a lot, especially when it comes to the way that he connects to music. Me and him connect in so many ways. We have the same taste in music and the same taste in fashion. Sometimes we don’t agree on the same song.

Ja Rule Hilariously Pokes Fun At His Career In New Foot Locker Commercial

(AllHipHop Rumors) Foot Locker certainly has a thing for celebrities picking on their career downfalls for their latest commercials.

The shoe store is gearing up for its fifth annual “Week Of Greatness” where they have rounded up various athletes and celebrity recording artists to assist them in their nationwide campaign.

The “Week Of Greatness” campaign will includes Carmelo Anthony, Kyrie Irving, Gareth Bale, Anthony Martial, Tom Brady, and Ja Rule as the athletes help promote the hottest sneaker and apparel releases from featured Foot Locker brands.

In Ja’s commercial the rapper stars as an Uber driver who takes time out to reminisce on the good ol’ days of his once great career. Ja engages in a conversation with his passengers on the topic of greatness.

It’s good to see Ja Rule having a great sense of humor about 50 Cent “ending” his career.

Hell for a CHECK, I’d have a great sense of humor too. The Foot Locker campaign kicks off Nov. 19.

Cam’ron Ethers Fan Over Instagram Comment

(AllHipHop Rumors) Cam’ron continues to remind people that he is NOT the one to be played with in business or on social media.

Cam’ron has been shooting down the bull this week after he already addressed the UFC for using his song, and Love & Hip Hop for putting him in commercials like he is an official cast member.

After his dissatisfaction with these occurrences Cam took to the ‘gram to post

“We’ll be reaching out tomorrow, me and my lawyer.”

By the time it got to this poor fan, Cam certainly had a bit of petty left. The fan posted under one of his photos,

“This ain’t 94.”

Cam’ron got the girl together so bad she changed her name or deleted her page. The rapper responded saying,

“I was in HS in 94 lol. This money makes me relevant.. I never wanted to be a rapper.. Big L (a n-gga u probably don’t know) told me I was good.. And I respected that.. I played ball and got money.. But I took rap money and invested.. Because nothing lasts forever.. (Even tho I’m still nice). I see da clothes you dressing ya baby in.. U ain’t never had 1k at one time.. Give me a po box number.. So I can get ur baby right.. I know U a single mother.. Cause u dead ugly.. A n-gga made a mistake and u kept it.. But holla at me,” he wrote.

When are these “fans” going to learn to stop coming for these celebrities. Cam’ron always has a little bit of time to get someone in line.

Oprah Claps Back At Critics Over Donald Trump Comment Backlash

(AllHipHop Rumors) Even Mama O has to be very careful about what she tweets!

It’s pretty evident that most are not here for the fact that Donald Trump has been elected president.

Oprah isn’t here for him either, but her attempt to promote peace, hope, and positivity while accepting “what we got” backfired.

During a Facebook Live event promoting director Ava Duverney’s 13th Netflix documentary, Oprah took some time out to respond to the backlash she’s been receiving for her recent tweet that promoted optimism as we are forced to go forward into Trump’s presidency.

Oprah originally posted a photo of Obama and Trump next to each other with a tweet that said,

“Everybody take a deep breath! #HopeLives!”

Lady O clarified that her tweet was about having hope during the transition of power, and not her backing Trump.

Oprah stated that she couldn’t breathe after the election because she expected tension and strain. She says that when she saw Trump and Obama being gracious to each other is when she felt she could breathe.

She went on to call her tweet a mistake though.

I think even the most optimistic people can’t help but to be negative with this upset of an election.
