Queen Latifah Turned To The Bible To Stop Drinking and Drugging After Her Brother Was Killed

(AllHipHop News) Queen Latifah turned to the Bible for comfort after her brother was killed in a motorcycle accident.

The rapper-turned-actress was 22 when her older brother, Lancelot Jr., died, and she felt terrible guilt because she had bought him the bike he was riding at the time.

She also turned her back on God, telling the new issue of Simple Grace magazine the tragedy left her spiraling out of control in a world of drugs and alcohol.

“That loss, man, I was rocked to the core,” Latifah tells the publication. “I felt guilty because I got angry at God. But you know, he loves me anyway, even though I’m no saint and I’m far from perfect.

“Understanding that God never leaves us helped me realize my brother was in a better place. In life, you’ll go through ups and downs, but you will come back up eventually.”

The tragedy and her Bible studies made the “Chicago” star a much more present person, less controlled by work.

“My schedule can be so full, it would be overwhelming,” she explains. “So I’ve come to learn the importance of staying in the moment and being present where I am. I focus on all of life’s joyful little things like a good meal or an unexpected text from a loved one.

“The now is where God is, where you can feel his love the most. And knowing that, feeling love like that in your heart, gives you comfort and peace to keep on fighting the good fight.”

Latifah is currently promoting her new film “Girls Trip,” which hits U.S. cinemas on July 21.

Tyler The Creator Snags New Converse Campaign/Deal

(AllHipHop News) Rapper Tyler The Creator has been unveiled as the new face of sneaker brand Converse.

The Odd Future star was recently rumored to have switched alliances from rival firm Vans to Converse, and he confirmed the partnership by sharing their new advertising campaign via Twitter.

In the video, Tyler and members of his Odd Future band put the durability of Converse’s One Star low-top silhouette style shoes to the test by wearing them to ride BMX and quad bikes, as well as going skateboarding.

The ad also features the classic sneaker being held up to the flame of a lighter.

It’s not yet known if Tyler will be releasing his own line of shoes with Converse, but he previously designed a range of shoes for Vans, with his last collection dropping in late 2016, two years after he first signed on as a brand ambassador.

Skepta Collaborates With Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger

(AllHipHop News) Mick Jagger is working on new material with British rapper Skepta.

The grime star, who picked up the prestigious Mercury Prize in 2016 for his album Konnichiwa, shared a photo of himself in the studio with the rock legend.

The snap was taken by Midnight Studios founder Shane Gonzales, who told the Metro newspaper the session was “one of the most inspiring days of my life”.

It’s not clear whether the odd couple is working on new material for Skepta’s next album or an unannounced Jagger solo project.

Jay-Z Admits His Relationship With Beyonce Wasn’t Built On “100 Percent” Truth

(AllHipHop News) Jay-Z has admitted his relationship with wife Beyonce wasn’t built on “100 percent truth”.

While the couple, who recently welcomed twins into the world, are now considered one of the strongest pairings in the showbiz world, they did go through a tough period when the rapper was accused of cheating on his spouse.

And in the latest visual offering to accompany his new album 4:44, Jay addresses that difficult time and the toll it took on both him and Beyonce emotionally.

“This is my real life. I just ran into this place and we built this big, beautiful mansion of a relationship that wasn’t totally built on the 100 percent truth and it starts cracking,” Jay says in the second episode of “Footnotes for 4:44.” “Things start happening that the public can see. Then we had to get to a point of ‘Okay, tear this down and let’s start from the beginning… It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done.”

The video, released by Tidal, also features Kendrick Lamar, Will Smith, Meek Mill, and Chris Rock among others, with the group discussing the general struggle to find love.

And as Jay continues looking back at the evolution of his marriage, he remembers a moment during a holiday with Beyonce where he begged her not to leave him.

“What is happening to my body right now? Did I just say … ‘Don’t leave?’ All this is new for me,” he admits in the clip.

4:44 has been hitting headlines since it dropped due to the emotional nature of the record and tough subject matters of some of the songs. But Jay also reveals in “Footnotes for 4:44” that Beyonce heard the record in full in the early stages of its production, as part of the pair’s new vow to be entirely truthful to one another.

“We just got to a place where in order for this to work, this can’t be fake. Not one ounce. I’m not saying it wasn’t uncomfortable because obviously it was,” he says.

Amber Rose Says 21 Savage Is The Perfect Man

(AllHipHop News) Amber Rose has heaped praise on her new boyfriend 21 Savage, insisting they are perfect for each other.

Amber and the Issa star confirmed they were dating earlier this month and Amber has not been shy about sharing details about the relationship, taking to social media to reveal why the couple is meant to be.

The 33-year-old explains she is grateful for her new boyfriend because he is not afraid to defend her honor and treats her respectfully.

“It’s pretty amazing waking up every morning feeling love like this,” she writes on Instagram alongside a picture of her and the rapper in bed. “I’ve cried endlessly and been hurt a lot in my life, I’ve been abused, talked to like I wasn’t s##t… and S### shamed by men that I once loved and cared about.

“So I’m so thankful that God brought this amazing person in my life who genuinely has my back and is ready to pull up to defend my honor by any means.

“Maybe he’s just as broken as me and that’s why we’re perfect for each other but either way he’s not going anywhere and neither am I.”

Prior to 21 Savage, the busty beauty dated professional dancer Val Chmerkovskiy, who she met while competing on U.S. reality show “Dancing With the Stars” last year, and she also enjoyed flings with rapper Machine Gun Kelly and basketball player Terrence Ross.

She also famously romanced Kanye West before meeting Wiz Khalifa. The former couple wed in 2013, but split after just one year of marriage.

The “Black and Yellow” hitmaker, who shares a son with Amber, was asked about his ex’s new romance over the weekend and revealed he had no issues with the fellow rapper.

“He’s a good guy, he’s a good kid from everything I know about him,” he told TMZ.

Irv Gotti Hints At Problems In Tupac’s Estate

(AllHipHop Rumors) Irv Gotti just brought some attention to the Tupac estate.

Irv has been campaigning hard for his Hip Hop anthology series ‘Tales’ on BET.

The series takes the stories of classic Hip Hop records and turns them into episodes.

Irv posted a classic Tupac photo that shows Tupac after he was shot at Quad studios with a caption that read,

“Tupac. Immortal. Icon. #mood #talesonbet #tidal #visionaryideas #hiphopculturedtv #talestuesdays #coldhearted Follow @visionaryideas and @murderincrecords Snapchat irvgotti2626

A fan then told Irv that he should make a “Dear Mama” episode to which Irv replied explaining that he actually tried to do a Tupac episode, but there had been a roadblock.

“@wslongbeach_ I tried to do Ambitionsz Az a Ridah man. But when his mom died. His estate is in shambles with people fighting over who owns it. So I couldn’t get the clearance. I’m hoping it will be situated for next season. Y’all know I love Pac man,” said Irv.

Irv went on to expand on the hold up when he told another fan,

“@dream.cee when his mom died. She was still legally married to someone she was getting a divorce from. And I believe that man wants to own a piece of Pacs estate. I am not 100% sure. But it’s something like that.”

Ahhhh man. It’s been a crazy year for Pac’s legacy with the release of a biopic that many are divided on, and his estate allegedly being in shambles!

We hope Irv get’s to do a Tupac-inspired episode!

Maia Campbell Has A Message For LL Cool J!

(AllHipHop Rumors) After yet another disturbing video of actress Maia Campbell hit the net displaying her acting eratic and asking for drugs, her former ‘In The House’ co-star, LL Cool J took to social media in an attempt to find Maia and help her.

LL posted on both Twitter and Instagram encouraging people to help her instead of exploiting her.

“Instead of pulling out your phone and filming someone who’s obviously having trouble. Maybe lend a helping hand? A kind word? @MaiaCampbell,” tweeted LL.

He also posted on Instagram asking for anyone that had contact information on Campbell to let him know.

According to posts from various Instagram users, Maia has been allegedly found and checked into a rehab facility. Before this took place, someone recorded Maia sending a message to LL.

In the video, Maia refuses the help from LL, but she does ask him to do a benefit concert for her in the name of mental health advocacy.

“Hey Todd, look bro. I love you. I don’t need help, I just need a benefit concert for mental health……Don’t call me; I’ll call you,” said Maia.

When asked how should LL get in contact with her, Maia said she didn’t want it to “go down” and she encouraged him to pray [for her] that she doesn’t start rapping.

Years ago Campbell was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

I’m surprised more folks haven’t spoken up or tried to reach out and find Maia, and get her help. Not only was she an actress, she also appeared in several artist’s music videos in the ’90s. This actually shows once again how we need to do more to address mental health, drug use, and substance abuse. Get well soon Maia.

(AllHipHop Rumors) It looks like Blac Youngsta has lost his mind…….AGAIN!

The Memphis rapper has come under fire for being yet another rapper to make visual references to Jesus Christ.

Youngsta posted a photo of himself tied to a cross like the crucifixion of Jesus.

As if this wasn’t controversial enough, Blac Younsta went on to claim that it was supposed to be homage to Tupac’s cover art for ‘The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory’.

‘Power’ Star Rotimi Talks T.I. Offering Him A Record Deal With Grand Hustle

(AllHipHop News) Rotimi Akinosho is probably best known for playing Dre on the popular Starz series Power.

However, the New Jersey native is also a music artist.

Rotimi recently stopped by This Is 50 for an interview.

The conversation included him discussing nearly signing a record deal with T.I.’s Southern Hip Hop powerhouse.

“Tip offered me a deal with Grand Hustle [in] 2013,” revealed Rotimi. “Musically, Tip was the first to offer something.”

He added, “I personally wasn’t ready musically for me to do a situation. I didn’t want to make a fool out of myself.”

They originally connected during the filming of Starz’s Boss, and Rotimi eventually served as the lead model of Tip’s AKOO Clothing line.

In 2015, Rotimi decided to sign with Power executive producer 50 Cent’s G-Unit Records.

“I’m a loyal guy and the fact that he really presented me with a situation that made sense for me,” said Rotimi about teaming with 50. “And he’s also a mogul, a brilliant mind.”

The 28-year-old multi-talented performer tapped both T.I. and 50 Cent for his “Nobody” single.

“We just shot the ‘Nobody’ video. That was the first time they ever worked together,” Rotimi stated.

Trolling Or Nah? Is Nicki Minaj Pregnant?

(AllHipHop Rumors) Nicki Minaj happens to be another celebrity who is no stranger to occasional trolling!

It seems like Nicki Minaj is still yearning for the attention that most people refuse to give her after she was ethered a few months ago by Remy Ma.

Nicki wanted our attention so bad that she decided to take to Twitter and tweet a baby emoji!

Of course the internet lost their minds speculating about if she’s really pregnant, who is the father, and if Nas could be one of the potential baby daddies in question.

Well at least we know that we can rule Meek Mill & Safaree out!

Nicki previously stated that she wouldn’t be pushing any kids out of her v##### until she’s married, but we all know sh-t happens. LOL.

Honestly, Nicki is probably just calling a new single or new project her baby. Carry on.

Floyd Mayweather Fights Back Against Reports He Owes The IRS Money

(AllHipHop News) Was 50 Cent right when he questioned the reports saying his frenemy Floyd Mayweather was having problems with the Internal Revenue Service?

The G-Unit boss expressed his thoughts on the boxing legend’s supposed tax problems on a since-deleted Instagram post.

“Man this is some bullsh-t, FLOYD was just on face time with me. He had 20 million cash with him,” wrote 50. “He must just don’t want to pay. LOL.”

Mayweather pushed back against the claims he filed a Tax Court petition asking the IRS for a reprieve until after his August 26 fight against Conor McGregor.

Mayweather stated on his own IG page:

Believe half of what you see and none of what you hear, especially when it comes to media in this country. While everyone is counting my money and assuming the worst, these are the facts… Uncle Sam, received $26,000,000.00 from me in 2015! What else could they possibly want? I’m sure I would have been notified much sooner if there were any real discrepancies right? Bottom line, everybody just wants to be a part of the “Money May” show, including the IRS! That’s fine, you can crunch numbers all day but in the end, my empire is rock solid and intact! Now Calculate That!

The legal website Law 360 reported the 40-year-old prizefighter filed the petition on July 5.

“Although the taxpayer has substantial assets, those assets are restricted and primarily illiquid,” read the petition, according to Law360. “The taxpayer has a significant liquidity event scheduled in about 60 days from which he intends to pay the balance of the 2015 tax liability due and outstanding.”

Mayweather is estimated to make as much as $400 million from the McGregor bout.

In 2016, Forbes calculated The Money Team leader’s net worth to be $340 million.

Believe half of what you see and none of what you hear, especially when it comes to media in this country. While everyone is counting my money and assuming the worst, these are the facts… Uncle Sam, received $26,000,000.00 from me in 2015! What else could they possibly want? Keyshia Cole Facing $4.6 Million Lawsuit From The Woman Assaulted In Birdman’s Home

(AllHipHop News) Keyshia Cole’s choice to sign-up for Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood might be a good financial decision.

That’s because TMZ reports the R&B vocalist is facing an expensive lawsuit.

Sabrina Mercadel is suing Cole for a total of $4,550,000.

The legal dispute stems from the Point of No Return album creator allegedly attacking Mercadel in 2014.

Keyshia was dating Cash Money Records co-founder Bryan “Birdman” Williams at the time.

After finding Mercadel at Birdman’s Los Angeles condo, Cole apparently assaulted the woman.

The singer accused Mercadel of sleeping with Birdman, but she has insisted her relationship with the music executive was “strictly plutonic.”

A lawsuit concerning the incident first came to light in November 2014, but the alleged victim has now presented the full damages she is seeking in the case.

The suit includes:

  • $1.5 million for pain and suffering
  • $500,000 for emotional distress
  • $2 million for loss of use of body part
  • $200,000 for future medical expenses
  • $50,000 for loss of earnings
  • $300,000 for future loss of earnings

Cole was not prosecuted for the condo attack.

Viewers can catch the former star of Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is and Keyshia & Daniel: Family First on season 4 of Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood beginning on June 24.

Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again” Becomes The Most-Viewed Music Video On YouTube

(AllHipHop News) Pittsburgh rapper Wiz Khalifa is the new king of YouTube.

BBC News reports Wiz’s video for “See You Again” featuring Charlie Puth has collected 2,895,373,709 views (as of writing).

That total surpasses Psy’s 2,894,426,475 views for the viral hit “Gangnam Style.”

The South Korean hit maker’s clip had been the most watch video on the site since 2012.

“See You Again” was a smash record as well.

Wiz and Puth’s single from the Furious 7 soundtrack spent 12 nonconsecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2015.

Many critics and fans were surprised when “See You Again” was not nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song.

“I don’t really get into the political stuff, but I do know it depends on who gets nominated and who doesn’t, and it is not based on just the music. I’m focused on the music so I’m doing my part,” stated Wiz in a 2016 Billboard interview.

Later that year, “See You Again” became the first video by a Hip Hop act to cross the 2 billion viewed mark.

It also received nominations at the Grammy Awards, American Music Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, and Golden Globe Awards.

The musical tribute to the late Fast & Furious actor Paul Walker did win the honor of Best Song at the 2016 Critics’ Choice Awards.

50 Cent and Eminem were reportedly approached about recording “See You Again” before Wiz Khalifa.

“At the time [Eminem and I] had to make a decision between doing [the Southpaw soundtrack] and the song for Fast & Furious,” said 50. “And that [‘See You Again’] was a huge success for Wiz Khalifa and them. [Eminem] decided to do Southpaw because he was invested in the project.”

The rest of the Top 5 on the list of most-watched YouTube music videos is Justin Bieber’s “Sorry” (2,635,572,161), Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk” featuring Bruno Mars (2,550,545,717), and Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito” featuring Daddy Yankee (2,482,502,747).

Blac Youngsta Uses Nas’ “Hate Me Now” Video To Defend Posting Jesus Crucifixion Imagery

(AllHipHop News) Use of religious imagery in art is always a touchy subject.

In the past, Hip Hop artists like Kanye West, The Game, and Nas have faced backlash for making visual references to Jesus Christ.

Blac Youngsta is now facing similar criticism for a picture he posted on Instagram.

Last night, the Memphis rapper uploaded a photo of himself tied to a cross like the crucifixion of Jesus.

Apparently, it was meant to be an homage to the cover art of Tupac Shakur’s The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory.

“HAIL MARY COME WITH ME ?? R.I.P TUPAC #HEAVYCAMP,” wrote Youngsta in the picture’s caption.

The image did not sit well with some IG users, and the “Birthday” rhymer pushed back against the negative reactions by mentioning a Hip Hop legend.

“BUT IT WAS COOL WHEN NAS DID IT,” Blac Youngsta tweeted.

As noted earlier, Nas’ 1999 music video for “Hate Me Now” was viewed as very controversial at the time because the Queens emcee depicted himself as Jesus throughout the clip.

Bad Boy Records head Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs was featured on the song and in the video.

The religious symbolism actually led to Puffy attacking Nas’ then manager Steve Stoute with a champagne bottle.

Combs was angry because he requested that any scenes of him on a cross be removed, but when the visuals debuted on MTV the images of him being crucified were still included.

An edited version of the “Hate Me Now” video without the scenes with Puff on the cross was eventually presented instead.

Nas addressed the Puff Daddy/Steve Stoute incident on his God’s Son track “Last Real N**** Alive.”

2 Chainz Talks Being Caught In The Middle Of The Nicki Minaj/Remy Ma Feud (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Over the last few months, Nicki Minaj used several guest features on other artists’ songs to address her rival Remy Ma.

One of those tracks that included lines direct at Remy is 2 Chainz’s “Realize” off his Pretty Girls Like Trap Music album.

2 Chainz did an interview with the Streetz Is Watchin radio show, and he was asked about the fallout from Nicki taking shots at Rem on his record.

“We ran up on each other – Papoose and Remy. But it was all good vibes,” said the rapper formerly known as Tity Boi. “I rock with Remy and Papoose. Me and Remy were talking about doing something before all this happened.”

He continued, “Papoose dapped me down. She was like, ‘I don’t rock with Tity Boi no more.’ She didn’t say it like that. She was like, ‘I don’t f-ck with him.’ She was in my face and I was like, ‘I love you though.'”

Chainz went on to say that he told the couple he had no control over Nicki Minaj’s artistic expression.

“I sent her a song. This is what the song apparently made her say or do,” explained Chainz. “I originally only asked Nicki for a hook. So for her to do more than a hook, I wasn’t gonna come back and say, ‘You doing too much.’ I was very appreciative of it.”

He added, “I told them that I pray that they could come to some kind of resolution, because they’re two dope, black women.”

The Atlanta native also spoke about his new LP, his Pink Trap House, working with Eminem, visiting with Kanye West, being compared to JAY-Z, the generational divide in Hip Hop, and more.

West Coast Pioneer Alonzo Williams Talks New Book, And Concerns For Hip-Hop Culture

(AllHipHop News) One of N.W.A’s unsung earliest champions is preparing to release his memoirs, just as HBO’s new documentary series “The Defiant Ones” about Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine debuts.

Alonzo “Lonzo” Williams was instrumental in the explosion of West Coast hip-hop with his group The World Class Wrecking Cru and can take the credit for being the first person to discover Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and Eazy E.

In addition to his appearance in Allen Hughes’ “The Defiant Ones,” Lonzo is doubling down on his contributions for history’s sake, with his new audiobook/memoirs, total “N.ot W.ithout A.lonzo.”

“My inclusion in ‘The Defiant Ones’ shines the light on many things I have been talking about for years,” Lonzo explained to AllHipHop.com. “When Allen Hughes first contacted me about being interviewed, we were supposed to spend about two hours together. Two hours turned into six as he was amazed by the history, anecdotes and insights I could share with him. I have nothing but gratitude for him and HBO for taking note of my role and input at the beginning of what has blossomed into one of music’s largest genres. It still amazes me to this day, because at the time, we had no clue that our efforts would evolve to this level.”

“N.ot W.ithout A.lonzo,” is narrated by Lonzo, whose role in Dre and the crew’s career was highlighted in the hit movie “Straight Outta Compton.”

Lonzo explained that he hopes his book reaches a new generation of Hip-Hop heads to make them understand the true purpose of HIp-Hop culture.

“Though I’m happy about the popularity of hip hop culture, I’m not thrilled with some of the elements of it,” Lonzo said. “In the early days, it wasn’t about money, gangster bravado, crime and going to jail. It was about the music and keeping it real. My message as I mentor youth is to remind them that hip hop is really a creative art form and the message in the music is very important. The more I reveal about the early days of hip hop, the more the truth is unveiled and the more likely we can get back to some of those original concepts,” cites Williams. His weekly male mentoring podcast, “Lonzo Presents G.A.M.E. (G.rown A.ss M.an E.nlightenment), is set to launch shortly.

N.ot W.ithout A.lonzo” is available on Amazon.com.
