Dave Chappelle Shares His Thoughts On Mumble Rap (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Throughout his career, Dave Chappelle made it clear he is a huge fan of Hip Hop.

His classic Comedy Central series Chappelle’s Show featured guest appearances by Wu-Tang Clan, Snoop Dogg, Q-Tip, Ice-T, Big Boi, DMX, Lil Jon, and more.

Chappelle also showed love to the culture with his Block Party documentary.

The concert film highlighted performances by The Roots, Kanye West, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, The Fugees, Dead Prez, Common, Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, and John Legend.

Chappelle – along with Chappelle’s Show cast member Donnell Rawlings – stopped by The Breakfast Club this week.

Dave was asked about the popular trend in the current era of music known as Mumble Rap.

“I appreciate it. I party to it. If I go out and they’re playing Migos, I’ll listen to that,” expressed Chappelle. “But a favorite mumble rapper? I don’t know about all that. I like to be able to say the lyrics too.”

The 43-year-old comedic genius will once again share a stage with some of Hip Hop’s brightest stars.

Ms. Lauryn Hill, Yasiin Bey, Lil Wayne, Chance The Rapper, Childish Gambino, The Roots, and Erykah Badu were tapped to be part of Chappelle’s 4-week residency at Radio City Music Hall.

The star-studded event kicks off on August 1 and runs through August 24.

“This year will be my 30th anniversary of stand-up. I figured I should mark that occasion,” stated Chappelle about his 14 shows taking place at the famed New York City venue. “This business is hard. It’s good to stop for a minute and just appreciate the fact that I’m still able to do this.”

He continued, “I’m very lucky to be successful, so it’s a celebration.”

JAY-Z Addresses Beyonce, Solange, Kanye West & The Prince Estate On ‘4:44’ Album

(AllHipHop News) It’s Hovito season, thanks to the new 4:44 album.

JAY-Z’s 13th studio LP is full of the Hip Hop legend’s thoughts on various subjects (see his song breakdowns here), but he also addressed some individual people.

There has been speculation for over a year that JAY would use his next body of work as a response to his wife Beyoncé’s critically acclaimed album Lemonade.

4:44 does feature lyrics about the billion-dollar couple’s relationship as well as the infamous elevator fight with Bey’s sister Solange.

Jay even offers what is essentially a 4-minute, 44-second apology to Beyoncé on the title track.

On “Kill Jay Z”:

You egged Solange on
Knowin’ all along, all you had to say you was wrong
You almost went Eric Benét
Let the baddest girl in the world get away
I don’t even know what else to say
N-gga, never go Eric Benét

On “4:44”:

Look, I apologize, often womanize
Took for my child to be born
See through a woman’s eyes
Took for these natural twins to believe in miracles
Took me too long for this song…

Like the men before me, I cut off my nose to spite my face
I never wanted another woman to know
Something about me that you didn’t know
I promised I cried I couldn’t hold
I suck at love, I think I need a do-over
I will be emotionally available if I invited you over
I stew over what if you over my sh-t?…

And if my children knew, I don’t even know what I would do
If they ain’t look at me the same
I would prolly die with all the shame
“You did what with who?”
What good is a ménage à trois when you have a soulmate?
“You risked that for Blue?”

On “Family Feud”:

Yeah, I’ll f-ck up a good thing if you let me
Let me alone, Becky
A man that don’t take care his family can’t be rich
I watched Godfather, I miss that whole sh-t

Hov also had bars for his “little brother” Kanye West.

Last year, Ye went on a rant about Jay and Bey during a stop on his “Saint Pablo Tour.”

The Watch The Throne co-creator reflects on West’s action on the opening song of 4:44.

On “Kill Jay Z”:

You walkin’ around like you invincible
You dropped outta school, you lost your principles
I know people backstab you, I feel bad too
But this “f-ck everybody” attitude ain’t natural
But you ain’t the same, this ain’t KumbaYe
But you got hurt because you did cool by Ye
You gave him 20 million without blinkin’
He gave you 20 minutes on stage, f-ck was he thinkin’?
“F-ck wrong with everybody?” is what you sayin’
But if everybody’s crazy, you’re the one that’s insane
Crazy how life works, you got a knot in your chest
Imagine how a knife hurts

In addition, the Brooklyn-bred emcee rapped about his issue with the Estate of Prince Rogers Nelson.

The music icon was a big supporter of the JAY-led Tidal platform.

“Once we have our own resources, we can provide what we need for ourselves,” said Prince in 2015. “JAY-Z spent $100 million of his own money to build his own service. We have to show support for artists who are trying to own things for themselves.”

The “Purple Rain” singer pulled all of his music from other streaming services.

After his death, the Prince Estate sued Roc Nation for copyright infringement over Tidal’s exclusive streaming rights.

Prince’s records were eventually added to Spotify, Apple Music, and other streamers.

4:44 includes Jay firing directly at L. Londell McMillan, the estate’s “special music industry adviser.”

McMillan is also the owner of the Hip Hop magazine The Source.

On “Caught Their Eyes”:

I sat down with Prince, eye to eye
He told me his wishes before he died
Now, Londell McMillan, he must be color blind
They only see green from them purple eyes
They eyes hide, they eyes high
My eyes wide shut to all the lies
These industry n-ggas, they always been fishy
But ain’t no Biggie, no lazy eye, huh
This guy had “Slave” on his face
You think he wanted the masters with his masters?
You greedy bastards sold tickets to walk through his house
I’m surprised you ain’t auction off the casket

JAY-Z’s 4:44 album is available exclusively via Tidal and Sprint.

JAY-Z Explains The Meaning For Every Song On His ‘4:44’ Album

(AllHipHop News) Welcome back, Carter.

JAY-Z returned with his 13th studio album early this morning.

4:44 is a No I.D. produced LP covering family, infidelity, wealth, racism, independence, legacy, and more.

The Roc Nation boss decoded the meaning of each record on the 10-track project.

Read JAY’s song breakdown below (via iHeartRadio).

“4:44”

“‘4:44’ is a song that I wrote, and it’s the crux of the album, just right in the middle of the album. And I woke up, literally, at 4:44 in the morning, 4:44 AM, to write this song. So it became the title of the album and everything. It’s the title track because it’s such a powerful song, and I just believe one of the best songs I’ve ever written.”

“Bam”

“The song ‘Bam’ with Damian Marley, it’s just jammin’, it’s just like the song. But it’s secretly Shawn Carter saying, ‘Man, you need a bit of ego.’ It was because of me and the things that I’ve done, this is JAY-Z saying you needed a bit of ego for us to arrive at this point.”

“Caught The Eye”

“‘Caught The Eye’ is a song that’s dealing with just being aware of your surroundings. There’s a line in it, and it says, ‘Your body language is all remedial, how could you see the difference between you and I?’ Just being so sharp about your surroundings.”

“Family Feud”

“‘Family Feud’ is about separation within the culture. Like, new rappers fighting with old rappers, saying all these things. So, the line is, ‘Nobody wins when the family feuds.'”

“Kill JAY-Z”

“The first song is called ‘Kill JAY-Z’ and obviously, it’s not to be taken literal. It’s really about the ego. It’s about killing off the ego, so we can have this conversation in a place of vulnerability and honesty.”

“Legacy”

“The song is just about what it is, it’s like a verbal will. Just a song about speaking to my daughter. She starts the song off, and she says ‘Daddy, what’s a will?'”

“Marcy Me”

“‘Marcy Me’ is a nostalgic walk through Marcy, and it’s about that hopefulness, that feeling of ‘Man, can I really do this? Can I really be one of the biggest artists in the world?’ You have these dreams, ‘Can I be one of the biggest basketball players?’ We have these dreams.”

“Moonlight”

“The hook is ‘We stuck in La La Land/Even if we win, we gonna lose.’ It’s like a subtle nod to La La Land winning the Oscar, and then having to give it to Moonlight. It’s really a commentary on the culture and where we’re going.”

“Smile”

“‘Smile’ is just what it is. There are gonna be bad times, and those bad times can do two things: they can get you in a place where you’re stuck in a rut, or it can make your future that much better because you’ve experienced these things.”

“The Story of OJ”

“‘The Story of OJ’ is really a song about we as a culture, having a plan, how we’re gonna push this forward. We all make money, and then we all lose money, as artists especially. But how, when you have some type of success, to transform that into something bigger.”

Lil Uzi Vert Recalls Being Beaten To Mobb Deep’s “Shook Ones”

(AllHipHop Rumors) Dang Lil Uzi!

Lil Uzi Vert & Pharrell recently discussed what it was like collaborating for the first time, and they reflected on the passing of Mobb Deep’s Prodigy.

While reflecting on “Shook One’s” Part 2, Pharrell spoke about seeing plenty of individuals fighting to the track as well as someone getting shot over it. Lil Uzi Vert even revealed that he “got a beating” to that song. Uzi didn’t go into detail about who, what, when, where, or why the beating took place, but I’m guessing he was getting beat by an older family member.

Uzi also spoke about the impact of the record.

“It’s not even just Hip Hop. In America, you can’t not hear that song. Like, even if you don’t know the name, if I play the song, you’ll be like… yeah I know that song,” said Lil Uzi Vert.

Uzi has stated that he grew up on a lot of classic Hip Hop. Uzi said that it’s impossible not to know that song. He credited Prodigy for having amazing lyricism and Havoc for having great production.

RIP Prodigy!

Virginia’s MOOD ENT. drops off an undeniable money chasing anthem. Joe Budden & 50 Cent Break Down What Really Happened During Migos Interview

(AllHipHop Rumors) The Joe Budden vs. Migos interview altercation video from the 2017 BET Awards red carpet has become the viral gift that keeps on giving.

The original video was hilarious by itself as it had so many comical moments, but the remixes and slowed down versions are equally amazing, I swear.

Joe Budden recently stopped by Boom 103.9 to breakdown what really went down between him and Migos. Joe cleared the air about how he was feeling about Migos and the interview as a whole.

“That was a bit unconventional. I didn’t want to talk to the Migos. I’ve never seen a good Migos interview. I just know when people come and they sit down; I know all of the media training… the label answers. When people are not enthusiastic and they don’t really want to kick it. You not just gonna give me your rear end to kiss,” said Joe.

Joe says he felt like he needed to let Migos know how he really felt about them before the interview was over in case he never saw them again.

Joe Budden says despite what the edited videos look like, Migos weren’t really trying to fight him or really about that life.

Joe also says f-ck all of them. His biggest issue was that the “little diva n-ggas” [as he referred to Migos as], didn’t have to sit down and talk to them anyway because he didn’t want to talk to them in the first place. Apparently Joe felt like Migos made it obvious that they didn’t want to be there before he dropped the mic and walked off.

You have to appreciate Joe’s honesty and transparency though. LMAO. One thing that’s for sure is he will never kiss ass or ride any waves.

50 Cent even weighed in on the situation on Instagram by saying,

“Was this a 50cent moment? Was joe about to get popped on? Let me see yeah, the young boys was getting ready to get on ya head joe. talking about you got a hot 16. LOL”

LOL! What are your thoughts?

Damon Dash Set To Launch Dash Diabetes Network (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Damon Dash is ready to host the healthy lifestyle centered Dash Diabetes Network.

The Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder is a Type 1 diabetic, so he has firsthand knowledge of living with the disease.

A 1-minute sneak peek video for DDN was uploaded to YouTube.

The clip includes footage of  celebrities, holistic doctors, and others speaking about diabetes.

Dame addresses his new venture on the Dash Diabetes Network website:

This is a place where diabetics are the majority not the minority. We accept imperfections as perfection. We know you are cool with diabetes, and that you can accomplish everything and more. This is about sharing your experience, every diabetic has their own experience but it’s all relatable. No one else knows what having a reaction feels like. This is about never letting diabetes be an excuse not to succeed. If you can apply the discipline you learn from managing diabetes to anything in the world – you will succeed. Diabetes doesn’t stop you but empowers you to live well and strategize. I just got to a place where I can get to a Level 7. I’ve gone through the journey and I want to explain what works for me.

From navigating Harlem to the entrepreneurial life with Kanye, Jay Z, Cam’ron, Roc-A-Fella, Rocawear and directing Kevin Hart’s first movies. I’ve been diabetic all around the world; jail, Saint Tropez, helicopters, China, Africa, Jamaica, boarding school, the principle’s office. I’ve been the bad kid and the good kid, you can be everything diabetic and that’s what I want to showcase.

Are T.I. & Tiny Faking Their Reconciliation In Hopes Of Drumming Up New Reality TV Opportunities?

(AllHipHop Rumors) Word on the curb is that all is not well between T.I. and Tiny despite all of their public appearances together post separation.

Apparently the divorce will go on, and the Harris’ public appearances together have allegedly been orchestrated to continue to rack up various reality TV checks.

Rumor has it that T.I. is still getting it in and even allegedly has several women pregnant right now. NOOOOOOOOOO! Say it ain’t so!

We all want the Harris family to hustle together again. Someone please tell us T.I. isn’t out here wildin’ out like this just because he’s finally free of all of his “distractions”.

According to a blind item by Crazy Days & Nights,

“Don’t believe the hype. This singing/rapping married couple want another season of their reality show so are trying to make it look like they are together. By my count, the rapper has at least three women pregnant right now and has a woman living with him who is not one of the three.”

I honestly feel like they really won’t go through with the divorce, and even if they do, they will either get back together or still mess around. What are your thoughts?

The Internet Drags Kendall & Kylie Jenner For Putting Their Faces Over Tupac & Biggie On T-Shirt Collection

(AllHipHop Rumors) As much as they like black men, you would think that the Kardashians/Jenners would have some good black friends that would stop the foolishness that they are often on.

Well two members of the world’s “favorite” family are under fire for superimposing their faces over images of the late, great rap icons, Tupac and Biggie!

Kendall & Kylie Jenner have lost their minds! It’s like they had to know better! One of them already got roasted earlier this year for claiming that Tupac was her spirit animal.

It seems like they got away with their Pink Floyd, The Doors, Metallica and Kiss t-shirts, but black Twitter and Hip Hop Twitter weren’t letting the Tupac & Biggie ones slide.

On one shirt, Tupac’s face is obscured by an Instagram screenshot of Kylie posing in a pool, another features Kendall’s portrait over an image of Biggie. To make matters worse, the shirts retail for $125.

They not only had fans and the culture f’d up, they had Biggie’s mom Voletta Wallace messed up as well!

“I am not sure who told @kyliejenner and @kendalljenner that they had the right to do this. The disrespect of these girls to not even reach out to me or anyone connected to the estate baffles me. I have no idea why they feel they can exploit the deaths of 2pac and my Son Christopher to sell a t-shirt. This is disrespectful , disgusting, and exploitation at its worst!!!,” said Wallace.

Biggie’s daughter, Tyanna, on the other hand is fine with it as she stated that people make Biggie t-shirts everyday. What are your thoughts?

Nick Cannon Writes About Attending Howard University & Working With Michelle Obama’s Reach Higher Initiative

(AllHipHop News) Nick Cannon’s revelation he was attending Howard University came as a surprise to some people, but the Wild ‘n Out creator is serious about his thirst for knowledge.

Every week Cannon flies to Washington, DC in order to take classes at the prestigious HBCU.

The 36-year-old actor/rapper wrote about his decision to go back to school in an op-ed for Forbes.

“I’m forcing myself to squeeze out the time and summon the energy I need to complete my college education. Do you know why I do it? To reach higher,” wrote Cannon.

He also addressed participating in the 2017 College Signing Day, a program organized by Former First Lady Michelle Obama’s Reach Higher Initiative and the Better Make Room organization.

“That day and that event taught me that our young people have a vision for their future, and I cannot rest until I bring that vision to life. That’s why Reach Higher’s College Signing Day inspired me to work even harder to get my college degree,” added Cannon. “I can’t think of a more rewarding experience I’ve had than being in a room filled with young people who feel the same way—happy, but not satisfied.”

“There’s nothing more important than getting your education…There will be struggles — I’ve certainly had my share of struggles. But here’s what I want you to know: You’re not supposed to go through this on your own. No one gets through college or life on their own. So when you hit those walls — and you will — don’t be surprised, don’t be shocked, don’t think it’s you, don’t think you’re not supposed to be there. Go get some help. Don’t sit in your room alone. Do not stew or stir. Go out and build your base of support…You cannot do this alone — I didn’t, and we are not expecting that from any one of you. Y’all can get this done. If I can do it, you can do it…You are going to get this thing and you are going to soar and you are going to continue to make us proud because we need you prepared to be the next generation of leaders. There’s stuff going on out there and thankfully we have you to take up that challenge. You’re going to be the next leaders of tomorrow.
