Nick Cannon Writes About Attending Howard University & Working With Michelle Obama’s Reach Higher Initiative

READ THE RAPPER/ACTOR’S MESSAGE ABOUT HIGHER EDUCATION

(AllHipHop News) Nick Cannon’s revelation he was attending Howard University came as a surprise to some people, but the Wild ‘n Out creator is serious about his thirst for knowledge.

Every week Cannon flies to Washington, DC in order to take classes at the prestigious HBCU.

The 36-year-old actor/rapper wrote about his decision to go back to school in an op-ed for Forbes.

“I’m forcing myself to squeeze out the time and summon the energy I need to complete my college education. Do you know why I do it? To reach higher,” wrote Cannon.

He also addressed participating in the 2017 College Signing Day, a program organized by Former First Lady Michelle Obama’s Reach Higher Initiative and the Better Make Room organization.

“That day and that event taught me that our young people have a vision for their future, and I cannot rest until I bring that vision to life. That’s why Reach Higher’s College Signing Day inspired me to work even harder to get my college degree,” added Cannon. “I can’t think of a more rewarding experience I’ve had than being in a room filled with young people who feel the same way—happy, but not satisfied.”

“There’s nothing more important than getting your education…There will be struggles — I’ve certainly had my share of struggles. But here’s what I want you to know: You’re not supposed to go through this on your own. No one gets through college or life on their own. So when you hit those walls — and you will — don’t be surprised, don’t be shocked, don’t think it’s you, don’t think you’re not supposed to be there. Go get some help. Don’t sit in your room alone. Do not stew or stir. Go out and build your base of support…You cannot do this alone — I didn’t, and we are not expecting that from any one of you. Y’all can get this done. If I can do it, you can do it…You are going to get this thing and you are going to soar and you are going to continue to make us proud because we need you prepared to be the next generation of leaders. There’s stuff going on out there and thankfully we have you to take up that challenge. You’re going to be the next leaders of tomorrow. So don’t ever get discouraged.” – Former First Lady @MichelleObama at her 4th #CollegeSigningDay @publictheaterny in NYC. #BetterMakeRoom #Reachhigher ??
