Chicago Natives Call On Chance the Rapper To Run For Mayor

(AllHipHop News) A group local artists and designers in Chicago are urging hip-hop star Chance the Rapper to run for mayor.

Chance has been grabbing headlines lately, for his million dollar gift to the Chicago Public School Systems, after a tense meeting with Governor Bruce Rauner.

Chance took it a step further, last week when he partnered with the Chicago Bulls to drop another $1 million to serve students at local schools.

Because of his steadfast dedication to the youth of Chicago, a new website Chano4Mayor.com has popped up with the goal of getting Chance to challenge Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

“We would be very happy if he’d become more politically involved and he endorsed a candidate who stands up for the same things that he stands up for in his music,” said Bea Malsky, one of the designers working on the website.

The group of graphic artists told The Chicago Sun-Times that they began working on the plan before Chance made his million dollar donations, which only made them kick in their project into overdrive.

Chance, who has yet to respond, could be well suited for the job.

His father Ken worked for President Barack Obama during his first term, and the former POTUS is a great fan of Chance, who appeared at the White House several times last year.

(AllHipHop News) Drake is spending a second week atop the Billboard 200.

His More Life playlist earned 225,000 equivalent album units in its second week of release, topping Ed Sheeran’s ÷ (Divide) with 98,000 units.

That total puts the OVO Sound leader behind only Eminem (31 weeks), Jay Z (23 weeks) and MC Hammer (21 weeks) for the most weeks at #1 for a rap act.

Eminem has seven chart-topping albums, Jay has 13, and Hammer has just 1.

Rick Ross’ Rather You Than Me slips five spots to #8 with 40,000 units in week two.

Bruno Mars’ 24K Magic (#6, 49,000 units), Future’s FUTURE (#9, 39,000 units) and The Weeknd’s Starboy (#10, 36,000 units) remain in the Top 10.

The Best Albums of 2017… So Far!

After the whirlwind that was 2016, many people have been looking forward the what Rap will bring us this year. While nothing can distract us from a Trump presidency or possibly another year without 3Stacks’ solo album, there have been a fair share of amazing albums to keep our mind at bay.

1. HNDRXX-Future

Future’s “Other Side” Is Just As Profitable:

The second installment of Future’s dramatic return to music proved to be one of the early highlights of 2017. With HNDRXX, Future showed progression on an artistic level. By reaching number one on the billboard, hopefully, HNDRXX proves that there is more to come from the FreeBandz CEO this year.

2. Rather You Than Me-Rick Ross

Ross Didn’t Forget ‘Bout “Lil Bruh and Dem:”

Rick Ross held no punches on his appropriately titled album, Rather You Than Me. With shots at Nicki Minaj and Birdman on two different songs as well as containing a certified banger in the single “Trap Trap Trap,” Rozay produce arguably the first classic album of 2017. Rather You Than Me set the stage for his next project, Port of Miami 2, proving that Ross never forgot about “Lil Bruh and Dem.”

3. blkswn-Smino

Smino Shows Out for The Show-Me:

Smino’s debut album, blkswn, allowed the St. Louis native to make his creative crater in the world of Rap. The distinctive beat selection and witty lyrics weave an album with incredible playback quality. And by addressing his removal off Big Sean’s “Living Single” and Goldlink’s use of his lyrics, Smino and blkswn have effectively put Hip-Hop on a notice. This combination of talent and personality has created much anticipation for what seems to be an undoubtedly exciting career

4. Culture-The Migos

The Migo’s Prove Why They’re The Culture:

Led by the earthquake of a single, “Bad and Boujee,” The Migos’ Culture album showed why the Atlanta trio has been so dominating in the world of Rap. By keeping their Trap roots while simultaneously showcasing each member’s own artistry, Culture is an album full of quality. With Culture, The Migos have solidified their place as one of the most influential groups in Hip-Hop history.

5. I Decided-Big Sean

Big Sean’s Decision to Remain on Top:

Related image

Following his breakthrough album, Dark Sky Paradise, Big Sean’s, I Decided, did not disappoint. As a proven forerunner in the creation of styles and flows, I Decided included elements of Sean’s sophomore album, Hall of Fame, but in a more palatable way. By doing this, Sean was able to showcase his artistry while proving to Rap that he is deserving of the hype he has always received.

6. Future-Future

Future Returns With a Bang:

Future’s self-titled return was the first smash album of 2017. With undeniable hits like “Draco” and “Mask off,” the album deserved it standing as the number one project in the world. Yet, he did not stop there, by following Future with the even better HNDRXX, the Trap Legend has already claimed 2017 as his own.

7. More Life-Drake/OVO

All Hits, No Misses for Drake and OVO:

Drake and OVO’s “album/playlist” solidified the Midas touch that is Drake’s creativity. By taking a diasporic approach to Rap, Drake created a 22-song project that could be received worldly. Like almost every Drake project, this playlist was also historic. More Life broke streaming records set by Drake’s album Views while having all 22 songs chart on the Billboard.

8. At What Cost-Goldlink

Goldlink Gives The World a Taste of the Sauce:

Goldlink’s debut album, At What Cost, was the Rapper’s homage to his home, the DMV. The inclusion of dance music, Go-Go, and harder Rap gave a listener a view into Goldlink’s regional influences. Even though the album experienced slight controversy when St. Louis artist, Smino, claimed that Goldlink stole his lyrics and bridge for the album’s single “Meditation,” the project was still sonically solid and well received.

9. Gelato-Young Dolph

Don’t Play Wit Dolph:

Memphis Icon, Young Dolph, continues his hot streak with the 2017 release of his project, Gelato. In combination with having the year’s best album artwork, Gelato made headlines as Dolph reignited his beef with fellow Memphis native, Yo Gotti, on the song “Play Wit Yo B*tch.” Yet outside of the beef, Gelato contained songs that continued to certify Dolph as one of Trap’s superstars.

10. The Wild-Raekwon

Raekwon Proves that Wu-Tang Still Isn’t Nothing to F*ck With:

With the release of his 2017 album, The Wild, Wu-Tang statesmen, Raekwon, brings a nostalgic feel into 2017. The Wild gives Golden Age Hip-Hop fans a taste of what they have been missing, yet by collaborating with artists like G-Easy and Lil Wayne, Raekwon shows his understanding of the current of Rap. The Wild proves that good music has no time frame and artistry can prevail no matter who produces it.

Peep How Much Bobby Shmurda Is Making In Prison!

(AllHipHop Rumors) Welp maybe Bobby can have some kind of career when he comes home.

Bobby Shmurda has had to trade in his life of racks and stacks for damn near pennies. I know he wishes he could still pick up a mic man!

According to TMZ, Bobby has snagged a clerking gig while he’s locked up. Bobby is currently working in the prison commissary at Clinton Correctional Facility in upstate New York.

Inside sources have revealed that the rapper is making a whopping 10 to 25 cents an hour. This comes up to about $7.75 a week! MANNNNNN.

We don’t even know if Bobby may possibly get out early on his 7 year sentence as he’s already attempted to smuggle in a shank, and he’s gotten into a few altercations and brawls with fellow inmates.

The rapper’s team and attorney still have high hopes for the rapper. His attorney Alex Spiro previous said,

“His sentence of seven years, with credit for two years already served and good time credit will hopefully permit him to be home in approximately three-and-a-half years and resume his remarkable career.”

Before Shmurda was locked up he was making tens of thousands a week during his short-lived rap career. As if prison wasn’t bad enough, that $7.75 has to be messing with his head. Children this is why you have to make better life decisions!

Killer Mike Defends Kanye West Meeting With Donald Trump (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Kanye West caught significant heat when the global music star decided to meet with Donald Trump for a photo-op in December.

Numerous members of the Hip Hop community – such as Common, John Legend, YG, Nipsey Hussle, RZA, and T.I. – have given their opinions on Kanye’s Trump Tower appearance.

Great Britain’s Channel 4 spoke with American rap group Run The Jewels, and Killer Mike answered a question about the Kanye/Trump meeting.

“Didn’t bother me. Why wouldn’t you?” responded Mike. “Black people shouldn’t have permanent friends or enemies. They should have permanent interest.”

The Atlanta spitter continued, “If it wasn’t for Dr. Martin Luther King being willing to meet with people like [former Alabama Governor] George Wallace, George Wallace would not have ended up starting a racist bigot – he ended a person that had found God in some way, appointed more blacks to his office than any other governor since him.”

Killer Mike went on to say he was more interested in NFL great/activist Jim Brown conversing with the president.

“[Brown] sitting with President Trump was a significant thing for me, because I know on the other side of the table he was telling the truth,” stated the “Reagan” rapper.

As for Kanye, it is not clear if he is still a supporter of Trump like he expressed at a concert last fall.

In February, Ye reportedly deleted any mentions of Trump from his Twitter page.

Killer Mike was one of the most visible celebrity endorsers of Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders.

Nas & Kelis Allegedly Did What Back In The Day?!

(AllHipHop Rumors) We might have found out where Nas got his “Nasty Nas” nickname from, or this could honestly be total bull.

According to @idustryonblast, Nas allegedly used to have his ex-wife, singer Kelis, involved in some Atlanta orgies that also happened to allegedly involve Chris Webber.

The problem with Industry On Blast is they post an incredible mix of fact, fan fiction, lies, mess, and scandal, that you don’t even know what to believe at this point.

It’s like they’ve become the black National Enquirer, but the National Enquirer is actually right a lot. LOL. Some of the stuff on the net is so bogus these days, that you don’t know what to believe.

“hey #Kelis ❤ still looking good after all these years!!! We still hate that #Nas allegedly had you busting it open in ATL For orgies with #ChrisWebber ☕️…. we would NEVER allow that,” posted @IndustryOnBlast.

Hey we can never put anything past anyone, especially not anyone in the crazy things known as the music and entertainment industries. Do you think the beautiful Kelis was really down with the get down? I doubt she was. Carry on!

“Empire” Creator Lee Daniels Says He Wanted To Get Aids On Purpose

(AllHipHop News) Gay moviemaker Lee Daniels feels lucky to be alive because the AIDS epidemic “wiped away” most of his friends.

The “Empire” creator admits he once tried to commit suicide by contracting the virus through unprotected sex with strangers at bathhouses, while high on drugs – and he still can’t believe he’s AIDS-free.

In a candid lecture on the epidemic the 57-year-old gave at Loyola Marymount University’s School of Film and TV, Daniels said, “It (AIDS) wiped away all of my friends. I had no friends… It was terrifying, because we never knew whether you could drink from glasses or what it was. It was the most terrifying thing ever.

“And I didn’t understand why it was that I wasn’t (dead), because there were far better souls than me that were going (dying). I thought that I needed to go. And so I descended into drugs and into sexual bathhouses to die.”

“That I don’t have AIDS is a miracle from God,” Lee added. “I really don’t understand it, because I should have had HIV. Everybody else did.”

The “Precious” filmmaker also revealed he was often misunderstood by his father, who didn’t know how to handle his homosexuality.

“I walked down the stairs with high heels on (when I was a kid), and he put me in the trashcan,” Daniels recalled. “I have no hate in my heart for my father at all. I think that he didn’t understand (homosexuality).”

However, Lee found a lot of support from his grandmother as he struggled to understand his sexual identity.

“She saw greatness, and she said that I was going to have greatness far beyond hers, which was incomprehensible to me at the time,” he said. “My dad told me I was going to be nothing. (But) she says, ‘Listen, you know, you’re not like all the other guys around here. You are a f##got’. I said, ‘What’s that?’ And she says, ‘Don’t worry about it, but you’re going to get used to… people are going to call you that. But you have to remember, as long as you are strong, as long as you are fearless, as long as you are honest, you have nothing to worry about’.”
