“Prophet wanted to do his own thing really, really bad. He tried it within us, but it wasn’t working.” explained Skinny DeVille. “We still family, we still brothers, so good luck to you. I hope you get what you get out of life.”
He added, “I think for Big V, it was family. He had kids who were kind of grown when we started, and he was spending more time in Atlanta with me and Scales. I feel like he was missing out on the good parts of their lives.”
Nappy Roots now consists of DeVille, Fish Scales, Buffalo Stille, Ron Clutch, and Atlanta-based producer 808 Blake. As the collective continues to build their brand in the era of smart phones, social media, and music streaming, the performers are working to adjust to the ever-changing Digital Age.
“We’ve always kind of been on the technical side of things when it comes to Nappy Roots. I think Fish Scales keeps us up on all the new apps that come out,” said B. Stille. “A lot of people would kill for a brand, so now we’re taking that brand and growing businesses, making contacts with certain people, and moving forward with certain things.”
Scales later stated, “We’re from the old school era of passing out flyers and putting up posters on the telephone polls. We’re from that era, but we’re learning how to be savvy and connect with the younger people on the internet.”

(AllHipHop News) From 2004 -2010, VH1 celebrated the Hip Hop legends that left an unforgettable mark on the culture with a special award show. Hip Hop Honors is now set to return after a six-year hiatus.
In a statement released to The Associated Press on Monday (May 23), the network announced the show would air live from New York City on July 11. While no honorees were announced, VH1 said it would focus exclusively on female “trailblazers and trend-setters” in the male-dominated field.
Hip Hop Honors has recognized individuals, groups, companies, and art that represented all aspects of Hip Hop culture.
Iconic figures and works such as DJ Kool Herc, Rock Steady Crew, The Graffiti Movement, the Boyz N The Hood movie, Russell Simmons, Def Jam Recordings, Organized Noise, and several others have been commemorated in past years.
The Bill Cosby case has just gotten even messier. New reports claim The Cos admitted to having sex with two teens, and he even had an agent pay one of the girls off to keep quiet. One young woman was said to be 17 years old at the time of the incident in 2000.
Entertainer Bill Cosby admitted to having sex with at least two teen-aged girls and said an agency would send “five or six” models to his studio each week while he was filming one of his sitcoms, according to portions of Cosby’s deposition in a long-settled civil released by the Associated Press on the eve of a preliminary hearing on the lone criminal case against Cosby.
This is based on depositions Cosby gave in 2005 and 2006 during Andrea Constand’s civil lawsuit against him.
The transcript reads:
Q: She says that just days after … she told you that she did not drink, you told her to come over to (your townhouse) and served her amaretto. Do you recall serving her amaretto?
A: No.
Q: That you told her to sit next to you on the couch and that you put your arm around her and began massaging her shoulder and arms suggestively. Did that occur? … This occurred sometime after you met her parents.
A: I need clarification on time.
Q: She’s 17 and I believe throughout the time she knows you she becomes 18 or 19.
Q: On a later occasion you had her masturbate you with lotion. Did that ever happen?
A: Yes.
According to TMZ, Cosby also admitted to having consensual sex with then 19-year-old Therese Serignese in 1976. The comedian supposedly had an agent give Serignese money so she wouldn’t tell his wife about the affair.
Cosby returns to court today (March 24) in Norristown, Pennsylvania for a preliminary hearing. He’s facing three counts of felony indecent assault from alleged sexual abuse of Constand in 2004.
They settled the civil suit in 2006, but the newly elected prosecutor reopened the criminal case after taking office.

The digital Coloring Book was created by The Interns. Those are the same forces behind the Friends in Paris children’s book inspired by Jay Z and Kanye West’s “N-ggas In Paris.”

Now let me preface this by saying that I am actually a fan of Madonna‘s music. I have been since I was a little girl. But “nothing compares” to Prince singing his own songs, so anyone who even thought to attempt a tribute to him should have been able both vocally and musically to get as close to him as would have been humanly possible. Madonna was never going to be able to do that…not ever. Which was just one of the myriad of reasons that people threw a serious tantrum when they found out that she was going to be the one to “tribute” him at this year’s Billboard Award Show which aired Sunday.

The response from social media ranged from blank stares to praise to flat out cursing. Memes began to creep up like a swim suit on a big booty in the middle of July! And anyone who remembers the looks on Prince’s face during his tribute in 2010 at the BET Awards knows he felt a particular way about how his music was performed. Those of us who remembered this performance, knew Prince would not be a fan of the Madonna tribute and that was why all the bruhaha about her not doing it came into play. But as usual she did what she wanted to do because she’s a rebel. That was cute when she was in her 20’s but now at nearly 60 it just looks ridiculous. If she wants to suck Drake’s face off on an award show fine, show up on a red carpet with her behind hanging out cool. She spent the money on that outfit so she should wear it if she wants to.
But people told her to sit down somewhere and to enjoy her seat while she was there because we all knew that Prince would not have enjoyed that disaster of a performance. And bringing our Uncle Stevie up there…tsk, tsk and tsk. She should have just let Stevie do the tribute in the first place. He could have handled it by himself.
Madonna decided to respond to her “haters” (or as I like to call them people with ears and an opinion!) on social media by saying,
“Anyone who wants to do a tribute to Prince is welcome to. Whatever your age Gender or skin Color. If you loved him and he inspired you then show it!!!! I love Prince 4 ever.”
Madonna should not have been allowed to do the tribute for no reason greater than this; she was not the musical equal to do it. Period. And fans worldwide wanted a tribute that was befitting to a man who played almost 30 instruments and who was self taught in everything he did. It was supposed to be a celebration of this man’s decades old career. Madonna didn’t give us a celebration…that was a party with no hors-d’oeuvres and a cockroach floating in the punch bowl and no one wanted that…not at all.
Now, I know the Material Girl is all about reinvention yada, yada, yada and she by virtue of being a veteran should have been allowed to salute her “friend” Prince. However, why did her salute have to mean her singing? Why couldn’t she have introduced real musicians that Prince actually mentored like Alicia Keys or Bobby Ross Avila etc? Why couldn’t they have given artists who are prodigies like Prince the opportunity to remind us all of what his loss truly means to the music world and us as fans collectively? Why did it have to be about her?
Because in the end, she made it all about Madge…as usual. Which really begs the question, Was this ever about Prince at all? Or was it simply one more desperate attempt from the likes of a woman who can not accept her reality. This was not supposed to be about making her feel relevant. It had nothing to do with her age, or her sex or even her color honestly. What it had to do with was Prince Rogers Nelson and the loss of a talent that can never truly be replaced. On second thought maybe her ship wreck of a performance did just that…it reminded us that Prince’s talent level can never be replaced!
During an interview with Radio 4’s Mastertapes, McCartney discussed the criticism the record received for the repeated use of “n-gga.”
However, the Beatles legend had no problem with Ye rapping the word.

(AllHipHop News) Eminem has offered up a set of limited-edition collectible items that just went on sale in recognition of the 16th anniversary of his Marshall Mathers LP release.
A portion of the funds earned from the collectibles will be distributed to the Marshall Mathers foundation, which grants funding to organizations that work with at-risk youth in Eminem’s home state of Michigan and across the U.S.
Included in the collectible pieces are actual bricks from Eminem’s boyhood home that was featured on the covers of both The Marshall Mathers LP and the Marshall Mathers LP 2.
The bricks will come with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity and Eminem’s handwritten signature, a display stand with an enclosure that features a commemorative plaque on the side and exclusive artwork.
Also available is a cassette re-release of The Marshall Mathers LP containing a 3d motion printed cover, and dog tags produced from re-purposed wood from Slim Shady’s childhood house.

Floyd and The Money Team have officially launched their newest venture, a record label called TMT Music Group.
The Money Team’s flagship artist is Las Vegas/Minnesota-based artist Lil Jamez.
The first song is titled “The Club,” and according to reps for The Money Team, the record has been well received when Lil Jamez performs the song at appearances with Floyd.
TMT Music Group is an official subsidiary of Mayweather Promotions, LLC.
That company is busy preparing to put on a match between undefeated lightweight world champion Rances “Kid Blast” Barthelmey, who will fight Alberto Guevara on June 3 live on Spike at 9:00PM.

(AllHipHop News) Nigerian artist Wizkid is heading to New York in hopes of bringing attention to hundreds of schoolgirls still missing in his native country.
Wizkid is one of the major acts on the One Africa Music Fest, taking place at Barclays Center in New York this July.
The concert intends to raise awareness for “Bring Back Our Girls,” the campaign dedicated to rescuing the 218 schoolgirls who remain missing after being kidnapped in Nigeria.
Artists to perform include notable names Stonebwoy and East Africa’s Diamond Platnumz, while African R&B artist Banky W is playing host for the night.
Wizkid is certainly a big name in the African music biz right now. He currently can be heard on Drake’s latest smash single “One Dance” with singer Kyla.
The prolific Nigerian singer was also nominated for Best African Act at the UK’s MOBO (Music of Black Origin) awards on the strength of his 2014 single “Ojuelegba.”
The tour comes as the “One Dance” record continues its dominance in the United States.
“One Dance” just recently reclaimed the Billboard Top 100’s #1 spot from Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling!”
One Africa Music Fest takes place on Friday July 22nd. The show to begins at 7pm.

The veteran turntablist, DJ and producer is a surprising advocate for music streaming as he’s also a big vinyl junkie.
Jazzy – real name Jeffrey Allen Townes – slammed the record industry for being “selfish” and short-sighted in moving to shut down the file sharing music site which was founded in 1999 by Shawn Fanning, John Fanning, and former President of Facebook, Sean Parker.
Napster was created as an independent peer-to-peer file sharing service, and its technology allowed people to easily share their MP3 files with other participants.
In an interview with British newspaper Metro, Jazzy shared:
“Napster was the most genius musical idea in the past 60 years. But our record industry was so selfish and was making so much money, it never looked at the idea itself and just shut it down, which I think was the biggest mistake in music.” Jazzy Jeff
“What it was doing was illegal but it was genius, so they should have incorporated it. I feel that streaming is just a normal progression of how we get music,” Jazzy Jeff stated.
Napster operated for just two years before it was shut down following a series of lawsuits from musicians and major record labels.
However, the brand survived after the company’s assets were liquidated and bought by other companies through bankruptcy proceedings.
Its legacy can be seen in the numerous paid for streaming businesses that have since been created such as Spotify, Apple Music and Tidal.
“I can spend $9 a month and any time a new album comes out I can just save it to my phone and have it offline. I’ve discovered a lot of music on SoundCloud. It’s like a worm hole,” the 51-year-old added.
Oops! The Weeknd may have been the biggest winner last night at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards as well as the biggest nominee, however his excitement lead him to post a misinformed tweet.
The singer was nominated 19 times, and he ended up taking home 8 awards. Abel got carried away with his social media acceptance speech as he tweeted,

AllHipHop.com recently spoke with both legends about KOTD, the culture, and the growing trend of mainstream emcees trying their hand at battle rapping.
“They would probably have to stop making music and really focus on battle rap to be as good as us. This ain’t something you can just come in and be the best at,” says Hollow about recording artists stepping into the battle ring. “They can do good. But who can do great and be exceptional?”
When asked if he is open to promoting another mainstream rapper vs top-tier battler match up, Organik states, “It depends on the mainstream artist and where they’re at mentally.”
He adds, “I think the battlers have kind of worked hard to make battle rap what it is. I think the money should stay within the battlers rather than paying some artist that’s just going to come in, [we] pay them big bucks, and see them not take it serious.”
